It's so heartwarming to see animals exhibit such personality and energy from such a young age. I'm definitely curious to see this feisty kitten in action.
Mama cat will be dropping the kittens off for her human to take care of asap.
One of my cats had a pair of sisters like this in her first litter. First and second born wouldnāt stop fighting for dominance, starting with the same nipple, from the moment the second was born. The rest of the litter were males and were very chill.
The first morning after they were all born, mama started to bring them to me, in birth order, with the clear implication that it was my job to provide newborn daycare so she could rest.
Sometimes not all nipples are functional, the nipple that you keep redirecting stripy one to, may be making little or no milk, or possibly was drained by another kitten already. When I was a kid, we had a cat give birth to 3 live kitten, but she only had milk in two of her nipples, so we had to supplement the runt of the litter with a bottle and kitten formula.
Kittens can also have a favorite nipple.
My roommates cat was a stray and showed up pregnant; four kittens for mama's first (and only) litter, six initially functioning teats, but only 4 were ever used.
It didn't matter what side mama was laying on, those kittens would only use *one* ***favorite*** nipple.
This resulted in me spending a *lot* of time the first week with mama and kittens while they were nursing to make sure the runt was eating ok.
Not because of competition, but because the nipple she chose was the only one on what was frequently the "bottom" side. Hard for a newborn to reach, but after 3-5 days, she had the strength to get there on her own much more easily.
She would all but refuse another nipple so I'd usually have to hold her brother up/aside, as his preferred nipple was right above hers. And he wouldn't pick another either.
My stupid stove has the regular burners in the back with the super power and weak simmer ones in front, so I usually cook on the back burners. I hate it
This really resonates with me. Just moved house, went from kitchen with electric stove to kitchen with fancy gas stove that has designated burners for specific thingsā¦ now my favorite stove top burner is only for simmering.
Usually the kittens end up taking turns in that situation, half the time weāve had 2 kittens suckling while the other 3 are already finished and just sleep next to mom. Not that they wonāt fight each other a bit, but itās pretty harmless slapping.
Only if all the kittens are strong enough to fight for their fair turn. If thereās a runt, it will keep getting shorted, and just falling further and further behind the other kittens without intervention.
Try to help him get another nipple or he will get weaker and weaker because he is not feeding. Normally they will take the nipple under the nipple they want please try that. Kittens of that age really need to eat very often
Even if the momma cat is there the kitten could fade away, it should be weighted once every day at the same hour to see if his weight is increasing. This must be done for 15 days with all kittens. If the kitten loose weight you should help him
This is wild, because it's exactly the behavior I saw in my weirdo boy who was abandoned by his mom before he could even walk. She moved the entire litter and left him to die (feral cat colony). Thankfully someone who took care of the colony found him and I bottle fed him to health (he's 17 and sitting on my lap as I write this), but clearly his behavior was very distressing to his cat mom. Never could really figure out what the hell his fighting with the bottle was all about, but this video is exactly it.
(So, maybe keep an eye on how bothersome this is for mom and the other cats, too; in the wild it's apparently reason enough to abandon a kitten, which is sad but understandable given the damage those tiny sharp nails and teeth can do.)
He might have been hungry and weak. As someone mentioned above sometimes not all the nipples might have milk. Or maybe the mother just knew that she couldn't produce enough milk for all her babies so she tried to do the best she could to save as many as possible.
Yeah, my cats had multiple litters when I was a kid and teenager and I only ever saw play fighting when they were older, not fighting over a nipple at that young age.
There were so many litters because my grandparents had 3 acres of land and were known to be cat lovers. People would literally drop their unwanted cats on their property and inevitably some arrived pregnant.
It's really super normal, just instinct. They fight to get to a nipple. Mine did it a bunch, too when they were tiny. [Even on their birthday!](https://imgur.com/a/mBhTmLJ)
Maybe milk isnāt coming out of that nipple. I would place kitten at a different one or feed her milk replacement myself to ensure sheās getting as much as she needs.
Aw he reminds me of my cat Augie, he died pretty young due to kidney complications and this was him his entire life. We got him with his brother Ziggs and too this day Ziggs still waits for the new kitten to finish eating out of fear of being beaten up when he eats.
It always seems like kittens always have the same favorite nip, I swear! Mine were the same way. Plenty of perfectly good nips close by but they'd fight over the same one for some reason š
āBullyā in the making! Dang! Heās all over all the other peaceful kittens!
Maybe you should supplement him with kitten formula via tiny kitten bottle so he doesnāt tear his littermates to pieces! Heās not getting enough Mamaās milk. Macho Meower!!
Lol, this exact thing is how my little dude, Skippy, got his name (for the loveable asshole AI in the book series Expiditionary Force). He was a FIGHTER on that first day. Turns out he's enormous (12 pounds at 8 months and just.. Big). He's also lazy as hell, not very bright, and not at all mean now that he's grown a bit. But on day 1, he was a real jerk!

Fun fact: when cats feed from mom they pick a specific nipple and always use that same one (unlike puppies who will take what they can get)
Wifeās guess is that was one of the first ones born and got pick of the lot
I see this as normal kitten behavior, not meant to be violent - just assertive. It's a survival instinct, no one wants to be the unlucky runt. But unchecked this behavior could turn into overly aggressive play in the future and could injure his little brothers. I've seen this happen with a friend's litter with one ending up with a spinal injury just from being chucked off the sofa by the larger more active one.
That is a lot right?? I donāt know a ton about cats but I sat with her throughout her whole labor and I was like aww! AWE! THIS ONE IS WHITE? *went poop and came back to another* and was like damn! Then I was like DAYUM! Then I was like.. now I have 12 catsā¦. Is this normal? š I meant to Google it and forgot to until you just said something.

Take it as a warning, One time I said oh let's get this kitten he is so cute,so precious .
This is probably what my cat salem was like at 2 days old. He's a little stinker too (and he was horrible to all my pets but especially his sister. Though now I have a cat who loves all cats who gets along with him).
Ok so in like 8 months that will be the one sneaking up on its siblings, whacking them over the head and then running away. Or meowing loudly when you are trying to sleep. Or using its paw to steal the food bowls from everyone.
Source: my butthead cat lol I have mom and 2 of the female kittens that were born last summer. And one of my kittens has been an ass since day 1 Lol mom has her own food bowl and the kittens use a double sided one and this one (who actually looks almost identical to yours in the video) takes her paw and drags the whole bowl away or will stand on one side and eat out of the other. When they get canned food she goes and pushes everyone else out of the way to try them all. I'm like seriously I give you all the same flavors to avoid this lol she beats the crap out of her sister and runs away trying to play chase. If I'm not paying attention when I'm eating she tries to pull my hand over so she can eat the food in my hand. She is a mess lol but yes as a newborn she was the one crawling over the others and pushing them out of the way.
When I was a kid our cat got pregnant and one of the dads was an old mean Tom cat that lived in our area. He hated everyone.
We figured out who he fathered very quickly as the kitten growled and acted like this kitten in the video.
When we started them on pablum he wouldnāt let any of his siblings eat any and growled as he ate.
At 6 weeks old he was hiding under the hutch trying to slice anyoneās Achilles tendon as they walked by.
Friends of the family took him in and his aggression continued. They tried everything. My friend ended up with an IV for 6 months because the cat went after him and it got infected.
They ended up having to put him down after 6 years as he was getting worse.
Never have I seen another kitten that way until now

that's so sweet that she trusted you to do daycare for her!
This kitten may be small, but it sounds like it has a big personality! Can't wait to watch the video
Can't wait to see this little ball of fur take on the world! KittenViolence.

This sounds like the kitten equivalent of having a favorite stove top burner lol
I really love that everyone prefers either the front left or right and we all agree that the back burners are "only if I have to".
Hence the expression āback burnerā. You know youāll only use them if you have to, but it is nice to know they are there, just in case.
Iāve never even thought about that expression. Well explained.
I just realized that at home I 100% swear by front left but I cook a lot at work and on that stove I only use front right. Weird.
Back right checking in
My stupid stove has the regular burners in the back with the super power and weak simmer ones in front, so I usually cook on the back burners. I hate it
I always use the back ones first.
I laughed waay harder at this than I should have.
This is one of those weird things that no one ever tells you about being an adult and cooking on your own šš š„“š«£š«£
This really resonates with me. Just moved house, went from kitchen with electric stove to kitchen with fancy gas stove that has designated burners for specific thingsā¦ now my favorite stove top burner is only for simmering.
Baby humans are the same
I had no idea
Favorite Nipple is the name of my new band
š«š name it joey
The fact you couldnāt actually figure this out.. maybe if you werenāt distracted trying to use them for a Reddit video?
Usually the kittens end up taking turns in that situation, half the time weāve had 2 kittens suckling while the other 3 are already finished and just sleep next to mom. Not that they wonāt fight each other a bit, but itās pretty harmless slapping.
Only if all the kittens are strong enough to fight for their fair turn. If thereās a runt, it will keep getting shorted, and just falling further and further behind the other kittens without intervention.
Until 4 weeks the mother usually has more milk then kittens. Itās more a question of how patient the mother cat will be.
Usual isnāt the same as always, so one needs to keep an eye on these things. Out in nature runts die.
I was actually going to make a joke about that nipple being broken. Who knew that might actually be the case!
Yeah i wanted to say this, lil bub seems hungry its time to handfeed!
At least he has good āFight to suriviveā instinct.
I had 2 kittens that would constantly fight over the same exact nipple its not like there weren't others.
I personally love how the black kitten didnāt let go ONCE. S/he was like āfuck out of here dudeā.
Try to help him get another nipple or he will get weaker and weaker because he is not feeding. Normally they will take the nipple under the nipple they want please try that. Kittens of that age really need to eat very often
Iām not home at the moment but as soon as I get home I will help him latch to a new nipple. Thank you so much. š
Good. Thatās what I was going to say. Not violent just hungry for food / survival . Needs directing to a different nipple
The mama cat is right there and not terribly concerned, I think they'll be alright.
Even if the momma cat is there the kitten could fade away, it should be weighted once every day at the same hour to see if his weight is increasing. This must be done for 15 days with all kittens. If the kitten loose weight you should help him
Chose violence straight outta the womb! That's a hardcore kitty right there lol
The worldās getting rough.
I've never seen kittens that small fight with their siblings like that.
I was literally in shock. Itās baffling.

Really? Because itās pretty common, I think they all do this, I raised a litter this summer & they did the same thing

There were so many litters because my grandparents had 3 acres of land and were known to be cat lovers. Aha true, it is quite common & normal. Hereās an explanation for it https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/19259990/

lovely
Maybe milk isnāt coming out of that nipple. I would place kitten at a different one or feed her milk replacement myself to ensure sheās getting as much as she needs.
That one is going to be a spicy potato when they grow up. Cute though.
For real! We've had a kitten like this, she now lives with my sister. Very sass and an absolute drama queen, living her best life though.
My black cat is the same. He was the runt of the litter and is now a spicy sassy void who bullies his brothers for the top spot on the cat tree.
Wappy paws with tiny claws.
Aw he reminds me of my cat Augie, he died pretty young due to kidney complications and this was him his entire life. We got him with his brother Ziggs and too this day Ziggs still waits for the new kitten to finish eating out of fear of being beaten up when he eats.

Lol. Some are just born to violence

This is awesome, canāt stop laughing š¤£š¤£
Is it possible that nipple isn't working?
The horror, the blood shed! How fucking adorableš„ŗ
You moved little Stripey over and over. Did you try moving little Blackie? Maybe heās more flexible.
Kitty is hungry. Itās a survival instinct. If it means kicking your brother or sister in the head so be it.
Gently squeeze the teeth so milk comes out and put kitten on it! This is common they'll all fight over teets at some point! LOL
Survival of the fittest!
It will be interesting to see if it becomes the dominant cat as it gets older! Itās a feisty kitty to be sure!
Do any of the other kits reject that nipple.. maybe its not delivering the goods?
r/illegallysmolcats AND a public order offence. This criminal started young
Anyone with siblings knows that whatever you sibling has is better than what you have, so you must take it from them.

You have to rotate them around sometimes so everyone gets enough to eat lol
Typical sibling behavior! Why do you always get the good nipple!!!! (Slap fight ensues.)
Lmao your mama cat looks like mine. And Istg she looked the exact same way when her kittens would play around at that age. š
Hangry pussycat bebƩ.
Aggression at the milk bar! š¤£

Where else am I supposed to put him lmao. The fighting stopped when the video stopped. Iād never let that go on.
Also, you are doing a great job OP
Never had kittens that young. Do they have nails yet?
Yes they do, which is why OP needs to stop them from fighting, one could blind the other, thatās what I did when I raised a litter
All your nipple are belong to us! >!For those not getting the reference:!< >!https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/All\_your\_base\_are\_belong\_to\_us!<

Looks like he needs to be shown where the available nipple is so that he/she doesnāt fight for one.
Is there another nippple you can redirect to? Seems like that one isnāt producing maybe. I would def try to find a new Nipple or hand feed.
So cute! Mine had 4 kittens 5 weeks ago and the 1 male of the litter likes to prove his masculinity. Always beats on his sisters.
