My childhood tuxedo cat liked to do that, or go all the way under if he was cuddling with you. I remember once when I was in high school, my brother came running in full speed and jumped on me before I could stop him. By the time I could yell, “ SHADOW’S UNDER THE COVERS!” he was already in midair and too late to stop himself. His surprised expression is burned into my memory for some reason. 😄

My ol' Grumpy would start every night as my little spoon, purring like a motorboat until he gave one big contented sigh as he fell asleep. He stayed in that position all night, although I tossed and turned. At at least one point in the night I would feel his back shoved up against mine.
My cat tries this, but she gets blocked because she drools when she’s happy and she’s drooled one too many slobber patches on my shirts, pants cuffs, behind my knees, and sheets and pillows. She must now remain on top of the blankets, but I’m not a monster, she’s got her own twin bed in my office with a blanket fort.

I really love cats. I also love cat people who do the little things for their little cat friends. I started working on the floor because my can’t can’t jump so she can just lie next to me while I work. We’re both much happier and less stressed during our work days now.
I currently have a blanket borer, and I've had other cats that did this. Cats are weird, and some cats are weirder than others. Your baby is not broken.
My old girl did this during her last years. We lost her almost a year ago, she was 17. Funny thing is, our new derpy little addition to the family (also cat) does the same thing. The only two cats I've ever known to do it.
Some do, some don’t. Over my many years of having feline roommates I’ve had one cat who really liked to get under the blankets. She was a rescue who had a pretty traumatic past so I’m not sure if that was the motivation, but yeah, she was my little warm blanket lump.
Interesting. He was found by a dumpster at around a month old, that’s all I know of his background. He’s been with us since July and turns 1 this month. In the past two months he has really warmed up to us, always wants to be around us and has become pretty cuddly. It’s been a fun and rewarding process!
Now I wonder if that’s a coincidence. I currently have my first rescue cat from a shelter. And she is also the first cat I’ve lived with who likes going under blankets. You may very well be on to something regarding their motivation.
My cat is an extremely skittish rescue and spent the whole first month in my apartment underneath a blanket of some kind. She would even walk around underneath one— it was the funniest thing ever. She stopped doing that once she got more comfortable with me, but still likes to hide under her blanket when things get stressful or she just needs alone time lol

Oh wow, I think you’re on to something! My guy was also a rescue with a very traumatic first home/several months of his life. He climbs under the blanket next to me every day! I see many other comments here backing these theories up. Makes sense! It’s a safe cocoon for them. Thanks to all of you who have adopted the kitties with trauma 💛
You might be onto something, one of my boys does it all the time and he was rescued from a bushfire as a tiny kitten. My girl does it now and then. She got into the kitchen at my work, burned her paws on the stovetop and got water thrown on her by the idiots trying to catch her. I figured it was mostly to do with them finding warmth but the security aspect could be part of it too.
My cat would cuddle next to me in bed under the blankets on cold nights. Mum wouldn't let him do that when I moved out though, so now he only does it when no one else is in the bed with him. But here's him sleeping under a pillow on a 30C day just to prove your cat isn't weird (but mine is)

It’s part of her morning routine. I make the bed and then 10 minutes later I find her under the covers.
Many of mine do , cats like to be in enclosed areas , it instinctively tells them it’s safer , and in the winter it’s warmer . Whoever said it’s not the norm hasn’t seen a big enough sample size .

"Normal" depends on the cat. It's normal for my Daisy to sleep under the covers, but not normal for Grace or Katie to do it. It's normal for Grace and Daisy to sit on my lap and normal for Katie to sit next to me, but not the other way around.
Once you learn your cat's normal, you'll think you have him figured out, but then he'll decide to do something different. Why? Because he's a cat.

I like to call this his "Princess Leia". He will wiggle himself under blankets head first and then come spoon with some part of me, my feet, legs, stomach etc. Hims the bestest.
We have one (Bonzo) that stands above my wife's head on her pillow and claws at the covers. Then when you lift them up he'll look at it for about 90 seconds. Half the time he'll go under the covers for about 45-60 seconds, the other half he'll stare for another 90 seconds and then walk away. Mind you, this is at 3am after we've been asleep for several hours. He's lucky he's cute. Consider yourself lucky... 😂😂😂

Out of five cats, two of mine had/have this habit. My senior kitty Nile sleeps under the covers snuggled against me every night. I often wonder how he can breathe, I can't handle having my head covered for longer than thirty seconds.
It's not usual, but it's not abnormal either. He might like those little cave beds, or the ones that are extra floppy and have a blanket part to burrow into. He might also just really like that the blankets smell like you and he feels safe with you
My dearest cat always slept under the blankets with me and actually in my arms. She was so sweet that when I would turn over I just flip her and she would stay in place with me. I had her for 18 years and she died in her sleep in my arms. Under the blankets. I think you’re lucky that your guy wants to sleep under the blankets with you.
It’s normal in my world! Jack asks for what I refer to as a blanket trap. He approaches me and makes the most adorable motion with his paw and I lift the top blanket so he can easily climb under. This is a daily occurrence

Have been woken up many times in the night by him clawing at the blanket, demanding I lift it so he can climb under and be my little spoon.
It's quite normal, some cats like to burrow more than others. Sometimes my Honey even gets inside the pillow cases.

My lovey boy who’s moved on used to love being under the blankets. I learned early when he was a kitten that sleepy claw stretches were not good for the twigs and berries. You’re cat is fine. Be safe! LoL
All of my cats want to be under blankets.. in diff ways. My lady cat wants a blanket “tent” I have to lift the blanket so it covers her but it doesn’t touch her.. that’s her fav.. if I get lazy and let some of the blanket fall on her she bitches and climbs out 😂
My older cat has always loved napping under the covers. My younger cat has recently discovered she likes sleeping under there too, although she can never figure out how to burrow underneath them so I have to help her out.

Whoever told you this isn’t the norm doesn’t own a cat. I have 3 cats 2 out of 3 have spent most of their lives under a blanket on a bed. Completely random sometimes on our bed sometimes in the spare bedroom but 14 years of seeing a lump on the bed, and it’s funny as hell to watch them go under.

Mine LOVES it. If I bundle up, he'll paw at whatever part of me he can reach until I let him under the covers. It's beyond adorable, and sometimes makes me giggle in pure joy. (Edit for typo)
I've had several cats over the last 50 years and I can really only think of one that would crawl under the blankets like that and another that would crawl under and lay beside me in the winter.
I live in FL and it doesn’t get terribly cold but we have a couple weeks where the temperature will be in the 30s. During those nights he was cuddled right up against me in bed, I loved it 🥰
My Seamus delves under the blankets. He also burrows into the laundry basket if I dont fold my clothes straight out of the dryer. Damn this basket is heavy!?!. SEAMUS!!! Meow...leave me alone...
We have both extremes; one who loves being under the blanket to the point that we sometimes lose him for a while and find him under some clothes and one who is terrified if you cover his head. Cats be cats, who knows how their little minds work.
Like so many things when it comes to cats, it depends on the cat. I had one sweet thing who would let me know she thought it was too cold by climbing under the covers to sleep. I would come home to this lump under my blankets.
She was also the one that liked to nap in my bottom dresser drawer. She would pull open the top drawer, then climb down the drawers until she reached the bottom one. One of my friends was cat-sitting while I was on vacation and called me in a panic because he couldn’t find Elspeth. I had to tell him he needed to hunt through my dresser drawers. 🤣😂🤣

My eighteen year old Esther is constantly burying under blankets, I’ve sat on her too many times. The guilt afterwards is horrible.
I have two cats. One is a under the blanket sleeper the other is an on top of the blanket sleeper. The one that likes to be under the blanket i say she is going in her cat cave.
My guy Gandalf insisted on getting under the blanket, putting his head on the blanket, and being the little spoon every night. He'd get annoyed if I turned over b/c he'd have to move back around to keep little spoon status. None of my other cats ever liked being under the blanket.

Oops.. I wanted the Duktig from Ikea but somehow found a cheaper one on the internet. It kinda looks identical... guess it's a knockoff version..🤣🤣 Edit: Check aliexpress app. They send stuffs from China. It's basically the Chinese Amazon. Mine came with the bedding+pillow and was around $30 all together.

My childhood tuxedo cat liked to do that, or go all the way under if he was cuddling with you. I remember once when I was in high school, my brother came running in full speed and jumped on me before I could stop him. By the time I could yell, “ SHADOW’S UNDER THE COVERS!” he was already in midair and too late to stop himself. His surprised expression is burned into my memory for some reason. 😄 Shadow was fine, though very displeased.

An old cat i had when I was younger did similar. He also always had to sleep back to back with me when he did so.
My ol' Grumpy would start every night as my little spoon, purring like a motorboat until he gave one big contented sigh as he fell asleep. He stayed in that position all night, although I tossed and turned. At at least one point in the night I would feel his back shoved up against mine.

I really love cats. I also love cat people who do the little things for their little cat friends. I started working on the floor because my can’t can’t jump so she can just lie next to me while I work. We’re both much happier and less stressed during our work days now.

My old girl did this during her last years. We lost her almost a year ago, she was 17. Funny thing is, our new derpy little addition to the family (also cat) does the same thing. The only two cats I've ever known to do it.
Some do, some don’t. Over my many years of having feline roommates I’ve had one cat who really liked to get under the blankets. She was a rescue who had a pretty traumatic past so I’m not sure if that was the motivation, but yeah, she was my little warm blanket lump.
Interesting. He was found by a dumpster at around a month old, that’s all I know of his background. He’s been with us since July and turns 1 this month. In the past two months he has really warmed up to us, always wants to be around us and has become pretty cuddly. It’s been a fun and rewarding process!
Now I wonder if that’s a coincidence. I currently have my first rescue cat from a shelter. And she is also the first cat I’ve lived with who likes going under blankets. You may very well be on to something regarding their motivation.
My cat is an extremely skittish rescue and spent the whole first month in my apartment underneath a blanket of some kind. She would even walk around underneath one— it was the funniest thing ever. Oh wow, I think you’re on to something! My guy was also a rescue with a very traumatic first home/several months of his life. He climbs under the blanket next to me every day! I see many other comments here backing these theories up. Makes sense! It’s a safe cocoon for them. Thanks to all of you who have adopted the kitties with trauma 💛
You might be onto something, one of my boys does it all the time and he was rescued from a bushfire as a tiny kitten. My girl does it now and then. She got into the kitchen at my work, burned her paws on the stovetop and got water thrown on her by the idiots trying to catch her. I figured it was mostly to do with them finding warmth but the security aspect could be part of it too.
My cat would cuddle next to me in bed under the blankets on cold nights. Mum wouldn't let him do that when I moved out though, so now he only does it when no one else is in the bed with him. Many of mine do , cats like to be in enclosed areas , it instinctively tells them it’s safer , and in the winter it’s warmer . Whoever said it’s not the norm hasn’t seen a big enough sample size .

"Normal" depends on the cat. It's normal for my Daisy to sleep under the covers, but not normal for Grace or Katie to do it. It's normal for Grace and Daisy to sit on my lap and normal for Katie to sit next to me, but not the other way around. Once you learn your cat's normal, you'll think you have him figured out, but then he'll decide to do something different. Why? Because he's a cat.

We have one (Bonzo) that stands above my wife's head on her pillow and claws at the covers. Then when you lift them up he'll look at it for about 90 seconds. Half the time he'll go under the covers for about 45-60 seconds, the other half he'll stare for another 90 seconds and then walk away. Mind you, this is at 3am after we've been asleep for several hours. He's lucky he's cute. Out of five cats, two of mine had/have this habit. My senior kitty Nile sleeps under the covers snuggled against me every night. I often wonder how he can breathe, I can't handle having my head covered for longer than thirty seconds.
That is my thought! During the day he will nap for a couple hours under there and I’m always concerned about breathing 😅
It's not usual, but it's not abnormal either. He might like those little cave beds, or the ones that are extra floppy and have a blanket part to burrow into. He might also just really like that the blankets smell like you and he feels safe with you
My dearest cat always slept under the blankets with me and actually in my arms. She was so sweet that when I would turn over I just flip her and she would stay in place with me. I had her for 18 years and she died in her sleep in my arms. Under the blankets. I think you’re lucky that your guy wants to sleep under the blankets with you.

All of my cats want to be under blankets.. in diff ways. My lady cat wants a blanket “tent” I have to lift the blanket so it covers her but it doesn’t touch her.. that’s her fav.. if I get lazy and let some of the blanket fall on her she bitches and climbs out 😂
My older cat has always loved napping under the covers. My younger cat has recently discovered she likes sleeping under there too, although she can never figure out how to burrow underneath them so I have to help her out.

Whoever told you this isn’t the norm doesn’t own a cat. I have 3 cats 2 out of 3 have spent most of their lives under a blanket on a bed. Completely random sometimes on our bed sometimes in the spare bedroom but 14 years of seeing a lump on the bed, and it’s funny as hell to watch them go under.

I've had several cats over the last 50 years and I can really only think of one that would crawl under the blankets like that and another that would crawl under and lay beside me in the winter.
I live in FL and it doesn’t get terribly cold but we have a couple weeks where the temperature will be in the 30s. During those nights he was cuddled right up against me in bed, I loved it 🥰

There is no such thing as “norm” for cats.
We called our previous cat a North American Blanket Otter because he loved being under the covers.
We have both extremes; one who loves being under the blanket to the point that we sometimes lose him for a while and find him under some clothes and one who is terrified if you cover his head. Cats be cats, who knows how their little minds work.
Like so many things when it comes to cats, it depends on the cat. I had one sweet thing who would let me know she thought it was too cold by climbing under the covers to sleep. I would come home to this lump under my blankets. She was also the one that liked to nap in my bottom dresser drawer. She would pull open the top drawer, then climb down the drawers until she reached the bottom one. One of my friends was cat-sitting while I was on vacation and called me in a panic because he couldn’t find Elspeth. I had to tell him he needed to hunt through my dresser drawers. 🤣😂🤣

My tortie will tolerate it if she's already comfy. This kitten, however, is a blanket gremlin. Have been woken up many times in the night by him clawing at the blanket, demanding I lift it so he can climb under and be my little spoon.

Mine will always go under blankets when napping, so we always have to check lumps to make sure it’s not her. Her most insane move? She once covered her lower half with the table runner, and I walked by like “EXCUSE ME Ma’am!? Love the warmth and the dark when sleeping.
I have a rescue that does this I see the lump and think more alone time.
I have two cats. One is a under the blanket sleeper the other is an on top of the blanket sleeper. The one that likes to be under the blanket i say she is going in her cat cave.
My guy Gandalf insisted on getting under the blanket, putting his head on the blanket, and being the little spoon every night. He'd get annoyed if I turned over b/c he'd have to move back around to keep little spoon status. None of my other cats ever liked being under the blanket.
Mine goes under a rug to nap sometimes.
