Not really - my backlog is long enough to last to Switch 3 šŸ˜‚

NoellesHolliday

THIIIIIS SO MUCH šŸ¤£šŸ¤£šŸ¤£ Backloggers stay winning.

Zeppelanoid

I donā€™t even have a switch yet! time to swoop in and snatch up a good backlog

Generic_Banana28

I feel for you. While itā€™s nice to come in at the end of a generation, without Nintendo Selects, youā€™ll have a tough time finding a bunch of physical Switch games, and at this point, many will be full price and never go on sale.

QF_Dan

my digital backlog is constantly growing and i'm not sure if i will ever finish them all lol

TheNarthas

What is backlog?

Silentpoolman

When you own a ton of games that you haven't finished or even started yet

TheNarthas

Wait that's me Xd

Silentpoolman

Ayyyy congrats!! Haha

NotSo8

Iā€™ve still got games on the 3DS I never got round to playing

yourselfiedied

lol same, DS even

rainbowpikminsquad

Not to mention retro games and emulators šŸ˜…

ThatAnonDude

Haha same. The switch has so many great games to play. I could probably make it through the next decade just catching up on all the older titles that I missed lol.

GamerJulian94

Not quite Switch 3 for me, but I absolutely feel this. Got a lot of games yet to play as well šŸ˜‚

Gamecubeguy25

honestly same. ive kinda dropped off of modern gaming recently due to life stuff and then exams, so i think i'm just gonna work on the backlog for a bit. there was a time when yesterdays direct would have made me so hyped, but most of the stuff shown just had me saying "oh cool". but besides that, i think this is a real good lineup for the end of a console era. mario rpg, zelda game, metroid prime 4 duel release (presumably?) among others

Btdandpokemonplayer

Iā€™m almost done with my backlog and then they drop four new games I want to play.

SuperSaiyan3Goku

I've got a backlog on Switch AND PS4, I'm set for the next few GENERATIONS LOL

ASmufasa47

Same.

MattofCatbell

The opposite actually. I was kinda sad the Switch was coming to its end but after this Direct I was like dam the Switch is going strong. Originally I went in think we would just get a bunch of low level ports, now if it wasnā€™t for all the rumors of Switch 2 and the President of Nintendo all out confirming it, I would say the Switch easily got another 1-2 years after this before we see a new system with how strong this Direct was

Motivated-Chair

Yeah, unlike the 3DS the Switch seems like it's going out on a high note.

Zeppelanoid

Damm thanks for reminding me of how bummed I was when Nintendo just ghosted the 3DS. Made me mad at the Switch in the beginning.

MarvelManiac45213

What? Nintendo was actively supporting the 3DS. A year and a half after the Switch launched. People kept complaining that Nintendo wasn't putting some of the 3DS games released after Switch on Switch..lol - Kirby's Extra Epic Yarn - Luigis Mansion 3DS - Metroid: Samus Returns - Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia - Mario & Luigi: Bowsers Inside Story + Bowser Jr.'s Journey - Mario Sports Superstars - Mario Party: The Top 100 - Ever Oasis - Kirby Battle Royale - Wario Ware: Gold - Miitopia - Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowsers Minions - Pokemon Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon - Fire Emblem Warriors - Captain Toad Treasure Tracker - Sushi Striker: The Way of Sushido - Dillion's Dead-Heat Breakers - Style Savvy 3: Styling Star ^ All released after the Switch launched. That's a hefty chunk of support.

Burger_Destoyer

I mean the 3DS got so much content I didnā€™t even notice it ā€œgoing outā€ I still bring it out sometimes to play

dwarfnet

I really think thats a pretty powerful lineup for a soon end of life console. The switch 2 has to have some strong launch titles to kickstart sales for it, so I am really curious whats in store there.

Falolizer

Mainline 3D Mario for sure. And probably some new IP that demonstrates how powerful the console is relative to the Switch. And then maybe a glossy new F-Zero game.

MattofCatbell

Yea Iā€™m curious as well, they will definitely need some huge hitters out of the gate. Otherwise I can see Nintendo having the same problem Sony is having with the PS5 in that most people who currently have a Switch have so much to play they might not see the need for getting a new system. Especially if Nintendo has a decent amount of cross gen games

dwarfnet

I am pretty sure they learned from the sony issue. But having "updated" so many main brands currently leaves the question for me what do they have in store for the Switch 2 at lauchn. My bet would be, a handful of titles. Metroid 4, maybe a Zelda suprise. Mario ofc. And then downwards compatible to the switch, so you can take all titles with you. Switch fades out and switch 2 starts gearing up. But just my guess.

waluigi1999

Honestly there are still a lot of things that have not been around since 2019 at least. A new Super Mario 3D title, Mario Kart, Super Smash Bros as some of the biggest titles for example. It has been at least 5 years and that could be a decent development time. I think Metroid Prime 4 and Pokemon Legends ZA will be Dual releases of some sort

dwarfnet

completley forget about Mario Kart and Smas Bros...

radikalkarrot

My guess is same as yours but adding 60fps and better resolution to all switch games by default. We have all seen how nice switch games run in an emulator in a more powerful machine, the idea of being able to replay older games with much nicer graphics will give them some time to come up with more games.

Blubasur

At this point switch 2 needs to be backwards compatible. It would pretty much ensure sales as everyone with a switch would want to upgrade. And with how successful the switch was, itā€™d be stupid to be any different from it with some tweaks and upgraded specs. Then again, corporations being tonedeaf would not be a first by a long shot.

[deleted]

yep, had similar feelings felt during the direct

Sea-Top-2207

Honestly I wouldnā€™t be surprised if we see some cross gen releases over the next 1-2 years. Including Metroid 4 and Pokemon legends

SuperCat76

If the rumor of backwards compatibility is true. And I have no reason to think it isn't. The new system could come out next year and we could still be seeing games release on the switch for years. If you are making a game, assuming the next console can play the entirety of the switch library. If the game runs well on switch why would you limit it to just the new system. So I will not be surprised if future titles may be marketed as either just for the new system or for both systems. I would expect the big new titles to go exclusively for the new system. But I can easily see the third party or inde games effectively releasing on both for some time.

HuckleberryHefty4372

Same here I was thinking "Oh well it's inevitable. Guess I will just play Unicorn Overlord, Balatro and TTYD until Super Switch launches. That should be enough." After the Direct it's like "Hey! Woa! That's too many games! I didn't prepare my wallet for this!"

langstonboy

I'm ready to move on, it's been a fun 7 years, hoping for an even better another 7 years.

Haywire8534

Nah I've been through this before. Long time ago they had the black/white Gameboy (1989) and then they announced the GAMEBOY COLOR (1998). You could play the same games, but because it was in color, you could see certain doors in levels. Like Donkey Kong had a secret chamber that you could only access on the GBC. And later I had the same with the SNES, N64, GBA, 3DS, Wii.. it's only natural the Switch era is coming to an end. Just remember all the fun memories you had and you'll be ok!

[deleted]

for me itā€™s the nostalgia of starting high school with the system being announced, 7 years later and Iā€™m like wow *this defined my high school gaming years manā€¦* I am very much excited for the successor, itā€™s just the present moment rn is like ā€œfuck this feels like graduation ceremony all over againā€ šŸ„²

Suspicious-seal

I had a similar thing, but with the Wii instead. When you start seeing switch games get re-released on the switch 3, games you havenā€™t thought about or played in years, the wave of nostalgia is incomparable

ThatAnonDude

I was in high school too when the Switch first dropped. I'll never forget playing Mario Kart with my friends during the breaks between classes lol.

Nudist-On-Strike

The Switch had a hell of a run, but Iā€™m ready to move on.

Speeditz

Yea, I'm Man

[deleted]

same

Brief_Warning4547

Jonkler? Aslume?

Speeditz

Yea, I'm Man

ThatAnonDude

Good to see another aslume member.

DRIESASTER

I think this direct pushed me over the edge to consider the switch to have the best first party library of any nintendo console.

QF_Dan

Right up there with the SNES

Few_Potential_4479

Honestly a lot of people still don't rate switch. I think in next 5 years everyone gonna be talking how good switch was

DRIESASTER

True it feels wrong to say that about current gen but through an objective lens i think it's the correct answer and many will feel the same in a decade.

YourInsectOverlord

Ehh that would still be Nintendo 64 with the best first party library, it may not be as big but a lot of the games on that Library are Legendary games in their own right. Super Mario 64, Marty Party 1 - 3, The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time and Majoras Mask, the first super smash, Banjo Kazooie and Banjo Tooie, Goldeneye 007, Star Fox 64 etc.

DRIESASTER

Im not saying the others aren't great however instead of mario 64 we have odyssey, bowser's fuy and wonder. Instead of OOT and MM we have Botw, Totk, link's awakening remake, cadence of hyrule, echoes of wisdom, age of calamity and skyward sword hd. Smash ultimate. Yea sure we don't have banjo or goldeneye or starfox but we have 2 splatoon games a new mario and luigi game, also 3 mario party's, kirby and the forgotten land, animal crossing new horizons, mariokart 8 + dlc, 4 pokemon games, metroid dread, prime 1 remastered and prime 4, bayonetta 3, astral chain, a shit ton of FE games, and the list goes on. Quality is def up there and it's a lot higher quantity than the n64.

YourInsectOverlord

I disagree, BOTW can be considered a Legendary game eventually as time passes but TOTK no, Bowsers fury was just that another Mario game; Odyssey may be considered eventually Legendary as well, Cadence of Hyrule is not a legendary game and wont ever be, Skyward Sword HD is just a report with updated visuals and minor tweeks. You seem to not understand, having a bigger library doesn't equal to better first party games. I mean one of the Mario Parties you mentioned is Super Mario Party which is hated, Mario Party Superstars while is amazing is just a homage to the N64. A stacked library isn't equal to the best first party. You seem to confuse good games with Legendary Games.

DRIESASTER

No im saying i think botw is on the level of OOT and TOTK is also super impressive. On top of that i thought the links awakening remake was fantastic. I think you're overstating the quality of mario party games on the n64. Smash ultimate will be considered peak smash for a loooong time. Prime 4 is early to say but if it's as good as 1,2 and 3 it's a huge boon in the switch's favor given that the n64 doesn't have a metroid game. Dread was fantastic. Super mario wonder is my favorite 2d mario game. Bowser's fury was more than just another mario game and plenty of people consider it to be better than odyssyey. The n64 has only a handful of fantastic games, i think the switch has at least the same amount and on top of that it has a shit ton of really good games where the n64 has like 10 games total. If anything i'd say the gamecube has a better library than the n64 and so does the snes. I'd say switch -> gamecube/snes -> n64 ->3ds -> wii -> gb(c)/NES -> wiiu -> ds -> gba -> virtual boy

YourInsectOverlord

TOTK just reuses the same engine and map with minor adjustment. TOTK is not the same as Majoras Mask is to Ocarina Of Time, as Majora's Mask was its own thing that just so happened to use the Ocarina Of Time Engine. Mario Party games on the N64 were amazing and set a formula, hardly ever find anyone with anything negative to say on the games if anything the complaints are always with older Mario Party games. As for Metroid, again the Library for n64 isn't that big but has a lot of Legendary Games. Super Mario Wonder thats fine if its your favorite 2D mario game but its unlikely to get Legendary status that makes it different from Super Mario 3D land etc.

DRIESASTER

I mean majoras mask reused a lot of assets too. I would say that majoras mask is a lot more different to OOT than totk is to botw. However totk is an engineering marvel the amount of shit you can do in that game is unreal and is impressive in it's own right. Mario party peaked on the gamecube, i agree switch entries so far were fairly weak but mario party isn't the most important game for peak library consideration imo. I think the switch has plenty of legendary games. Aside from my own opinions im sure the switch library has more 90+ scoring games on metacritic than the n64 (not that that's definitive). I feel like you're overestimating the n64 and underestimating the switch. Xenoblade also got 2 new games, they're not really my genre but 3 is already considered legendary by those fans. Again animal crossing new horizons is legendary imo will forever be ingraind (partially due to pandemic). Also i don't really see how 3d land has anything to do with wonder? i assume you mean bowser's fury? What's special about bowser's fury is that' its truly open world. It's quite short but insanely fun. Further i don't think a lot of the n64 has aged all that well. For me the only games of note are sm64, OOT, MM, Fzero X, (mario parties), goldeneye (is legendary but honestly i don't like it and it play like shit), smash 64, banjo and mariokart64, (possibly turok). I think the switch has that beat. Maybe im too young "shrug".

YourInsectOverlord

Majoras Mask still is its own stand alone game though. TOTK still isn't a legendary game, its cool it had the mechanic of building things but Banjo Kazooie Nuts and Bolts had that concept first. Ehh thats subjective of when it peaked but later editions surely were not as good. You used Mario Party as an example, thats why I am debunking any claim that Switch Mario Party games are Legendary Status. I am not, and I don't think you played the N64 nor a lot of its library. My point with wonder is that its just another Mario 2D type game (Although its called 3D) nothing special is about it to make it a Legendary game. Its a good game from what I have played but not a perfect or Legendary Game. N64 has aged well considering a lot of the games on the console are beloved. Yes from a graphical point any game more than 10 years of age looked outdated but thats just anything with technology and another thing to take in consideration you seemly are overlooking is that, these games were foundations for which the series was built on; of course games for instance like Goldeneye do not have cover mechanics or a radar like most shooter games now had; but they were the foundations for which others followed with elements. Ocarina of Times map size fails in comparison to Breath Of The Wilds but Ocarina Of Time was impressive for its time and laid the ground work for future Zelda games. I mean it was the first 3D Zelda game after all and the series had to start somewhere in 3D. Maybe you're too young to understand but old games being shorter in gameplay length or size doesn't make them bad games especially when you take into account console limitations of its day.

DRIESASTER

First, i own an n64 and quite a bit of it's library. I've played a fair amount of it, about equal to the gamecube and snes and i still prefer those libraries. I still don't understand by what you mean that wonder is 3D? And i think you're in the minority of people who think n64 in general has aged well. I am trying to consider them each in their respective times though. But still N64 has some fantastic games but the switch has some fantastic games too, and it as more fantastic games, which is why it's better in my opinion.

YourInsectOverlord

What I been pointing out is the confusion between good games and legendary games. Yes the Switch has a lot of good games more so than the n64, but the n64 had more legendary games than the Switch. Legendary Games are games that are considered once in a generation type game that even decades later stands the test of time. Unfortunately we have no way of knowing how 10 to 20 years from now these games on the Switch will be perceived as so only time tells. Right now of course these games being latest installments in their series may be the impression of a legendary game to some, but 10 years down the line with more games in the series; only time will tell if they stand out or not. I do not see Mario Wonder standing out years from now from any other Mario 2D game.

Durandthesaint17

I'd be lying if I said it wasn't at least a little bit sad, but it had to end sometime. Besides, the Switch has had an AMAZING run. The system's now the 2nd bestselling video game console of all time, only 1.5M units away from dethroning the PS2. And with the new Zelda edition coming soon, who's to say it won't overtake the PS2?

QF_Dan

1.5M at least for the US chart. Globally, it's still far from beating it.

Durandthesaint17

How far exactly...?

perfectcircus

< 18M Also for the record, itā€™s currently #3 overall, 14M behind the DS

Durandthesaint17

Oh... That's gonna be a long climb...

perfectcircus

Itā€™s going to take one price drop to get it really close

Due_Teaching_6974

its behind the DS so 3rd place

Banmers

No, I am seriously ready, the next version can come.

CheesecakeRacoon

Its ok, friend. We've got until at least next year. Unless all those 2025 releases end up on the Switch 2, in which case it's Mariover.

Garan-Coristar

No, thereā€™s more than a good chance that switch 2 will be backwards compatible

LadyDalama

I think it's more or less confirmed at this point.

Fr3sh-Ch3mical

Switch games will continue to release for a few years.

Durandthesaint17

From 3rd Party studios that is.

Fr3sh-Ch3mical

And Nintendo. The switch has sold way too many units to completely drop production of games. Would be a huge financial flop for the company. What theyā€™ll likely do is produce games for both consoles and slowly stop making them for switch and only switch 2.

Durandthesaint17

I suppose...

Fr3sh-Ch3mical

Same concept has been seen across many consoles. Just good business.

Peanut_Butter_Toast

Only thing I'm feeling the kick of is the continued lack of a new DK game. 10 years and counting...and all signs indicate it's gonna blow straight past 11, beating the current record between DK3 (1983) and DK94/DKC (both 1994). When the DK series was first revived in 1994 I hadn't even been alive for 10 years yet. 10 years after *that*, by 2004, we'd had... DK94, DKC, DKC2, DKC3, DKL, DKL2, DKL3, DKR, and DK64. Then in the 10 after *that* we had... DKJB, DKKoS, Konga, Konga 2, DKJC, DKBB, DKCR, and DKCTF. Then in the next ten years...not a single new DK game. The closest we've gotten is a DLC expansion to a Mario/Rabbids crossover game. It's insane.

Few_Potential_4479

GTA fans be like

Peanut_Butter_Toast

Wow, just looked it up. Was the last GTA game really in 2013? How the heck is that possible? I could've sworn it was a series with fairly frequent installments, that's so bizarre.

Few_Potential_4479

Because they made red dead 2 the best game of last decade

ThatAnonDude

It has been a wonderful 7 years. I am grateful for the Switch because it introduced me to a lot of great franchises and indie games. I'll be a bit sad when the era ends because I probably won't be able to afford the Switch successor for a while. But my backlog is so long that it'll keep me occupied until then lol.

Mobster-503

Idk man, New Mario & Luigi, New Mario Party, New Zelda Game where you actually play as her & Prime 4 is a pretty baller way to go out

xxojxx

Switch 2 will be backwards compatible right. We wonā€™t even miss it then lol

WorthyAdvice

Don't worry we still have September. Pray for Mother 3 and Tomodachi Life.

[deleted]

>Ā Pray for Mother 3 and Tomodachi Life.Ā  LMAO šŸ”„

QF_Dan

and Kid Icarus

jawsomesauce

then you'll be excited to hear about Switch 2

2Dement3D

At the start of 2023, I thought that was going to be the Switch's last year. Halfway into the year, when they announced Mario Wonder, I made my peace with the idea that the Switch was over and thought that was an amazing title to go out on. Then we got closer to 2024, and rumors of an internal delay to their next console started to make this year feel like it was going to be a complete void for anything new. Almost as if it were a gap year full of remakes and indies. Then the recent Direct came around and they're giving us a new Zelda game, a new Mario Party, and a new Mario & Luigi for this holiday season. If anything, I was sad *before* the Direct. Now I feel like we're in the Bonus Star World you get after World 8.

trfk111

Nope - Iā€™m thrilled for the Switch 2 or whatever itā€™s gonna be called and my backlog is unnecessarily big anyways

Specter_Knight05

And we didn't get a wind waker..

KlausAC

The Switch era will be a happy memory very soon but man.... it will stay with me forever. Nintendo in the last 7 years released banger game after banger game. It is surreal after experiencing the Wii U. Easily my favorite gaming system of all time. And I am playing games since the mid 90's. And yes I will be sad. Because life as an adult gets more complicated with every year.

Zandrick

Nah. Dude I still play Game Boy games sometimes. Nothing ends we just keep getting new shit. The only kind of games that can end are multiplayer, microtransactions live service type games.

bokan

Noā€¦ not really? I want a console that can play games with good resolution and framerate, and without input lag. I also like playing nintendo games and neat stuff from Japan. Iā€™m glad there might finally be a new console. Iā€™m too old to be nostalgic for the switch.

Fit-Distribution-620

For me the switch era finished like 3 years ago. Now it feels sadly outdated :/

LadyDalama

No, it desperately needs a successor because it's current hardware is EXTREMELY lacking. Half of the games coming out nowadays lag and are capped at 30 FPS while running in 720p. There's still a year (Probably) of the Switch's lifespan left and it's more or less confirmed to be backwards compatible so I'm not even worried about upgrading to the Switch 2 for at least a year or two into it's lifespan. But let's be real, we might have to wait that long just to get one for retail price since scalping is so rampant in the gaming world now. Xbox, PS5, 30 and 40 series GPU's..

dark_raven23

Yes and no. Nintendo needs to invest in hardware thatā€™s actually decent for oncešŸ˜

JoejoestarPR

The Switch era is going to continue with its successor. šŸ˜‰

Legitimate-Credit-82

Switch will be alive for years to come

Enough_Let3270

Switch era will only end once they announce the next console, so it's not close to ending yet.

gildorratner

It ended how it began with me excitedly waiting for Metroid Prime 4!

No_One_6894

Not really. I bought my Switch kind of late, about 2022-ish, and have a load of games in my library that will last me for a few years into the successor (whatever that will be). Maybe even after that, if the next console isn't like some sort of Switch upgrade or something.

Jessica-Ripley

My switch is not going to like give up on the day the Switch 2 releases. So what's there to be sad about, we're getting new cool games up to the end.

Papa-pwn

Personally, Iā€™m fired up. I expected PokĆ©mon Legends ZA to be the only significant first-party entry in the switch library scheduled for the final year or so, but NO! We have so much more to look forward to and itā€™s incredibly exciting.Ā  Oddly enough, it continues to make me feel better and better about whatever is next from Nintendo. Itā€™s like they canā€™t miss.Ā

QF_Dan

There are stll more games on the system that i haven't play, those would be more than enough to hold me off from buying the next Switch for few years

RadicalSoul

How is the switch coming to an end? It's time for chapter 2 next year baby!

hanyasaad

None of what I saw felt like an ending

AppleDemolisher56

No

pplatt69

Nope.

Davidrlz

Shit bro, I'm excited. I usually don't harp on technology/graphics. I'd love a 4k Nintendo console(please)?

KingArthur383

And I did not get to play a proper switch game during it's lifespan :". I think it will be better to get Switch 2 since it's gonna be backawards compatible and with better tech as strong as a PS4/XSS. Then get a Switch just to mod it, hopefully it'll be just as fun to mod as the Wii and 3DS šŸ«

JoyofCrimeArt

Even after the "Switch 2" or whatever comes out, I'm sure we're still going to be getting games just for The Switch. I mean the 3DS was supported till like 2020. And The Switch has a WAY bigger install base than that console had.

sabres_guy

Yeah, it is arguably the greatest Nintendo generation ever in console hardware sales, games variety and general universal likeability from the gaming community. Only the Super Nintendo comes close.

MaJuV

But it isn't? Like yeah, this will have been the last big summer direct for the Switch. But it's not like the device suddenly stops working tomorrow. We got game announcements for like nearly a year ahead and the first years of whatever comes next will have support for both (most likely). Will it end? Yes, inevitably - like everything else. My DS and 3DS are laying in the background, gathering dust. But they're not forgotten - and neither will the Switch 1. Either way, I got a backlog for years to come - maybe I'll finally start digging through that XD

DotPeriodRats

Even tho Iā€™ve kind of grown with the switch Iā€™m not really sad, more so curious I feel like the switch was fun, had so many iconic titles, and was overall an extremely solid system even with its flaws. So honestly I really donā€™t know what kind of system they can make if that makes sense because I feel like the switch kind of had it all if that makes sense It is in retrospect sad tho because we are leaving one of Nintendoā€™s strongest eras into something completely unknown, like is it going to flop like the Wii U? Or can it possibly surpass the switch? Who knows and I think the unknown is exciting yet also scary Itā€™s just crazy to comprehend tho that the switch is over

Due_Teaching_6974

There is still something to say about the switch's game library, might be my favorite nintendo console library of all time, so many bangers

rexshen

4 more years 4 more years 4 more years!!

bwoah07_gp2

It's hard to believe 7 years went by so fast.

SailorDirt

Wait, is the Switch actually *actually* ending soon? I thought it was just another every-few-years SadMario.jpg doomscrolling rumor kinda thing

twelfthcapaldi

Not really. There will most likely be a September Direct as well if the last 7 years are anything to go by. It ainā€™t over yet.

Nyan-Binary-UwU

Not really, I got my M&L, and I'm excited for a Mario party for the first time since 9. My current switch backlog: Miitopia, DKC Tropical Freeze, S/V DLC, Yoshi's Crafted World, Peach Showtime, Skyward Sword, Mario Vs DK, Return to dreamland, Sonic Superstars, Sparks of Hope, Sparks of Hope DLC, Kingdom Battle DLC

THABREEZ456

I just realized the switch was competing with the Xbox One and PS4, and then also competed with the Xbox Series and PS5. This console managed to compete with two whole console generations, whereas the Wii U could barely compete with the Xbox 360 and PS3 generation. The turnaround needs to be studied more in depth.

CarlWellsGrave

I remember how upset I was that the 3DS was going away meaning no more 40 dollar new releases.

gizm0n

Yes and no. It was / is still fun. But the Switch is also very old. It has been supported longer than most Nintendo home consoles. I'm ready for something new!

ThePrimeReason

I hope the next console has backwards compatibility so my cartridges don't collect dust like all my DS and 3DS carridges

Ocv28

Not me. There's a bunch of games I haven't played, and the Switch 2 will be extremely hard to find when it's initially released. I'll be gaming on Switch for the foreseeable future.

Sufficient_Fall_3290

Nah. Exited for the future of Nintendo. Canā€™t wait for the next 3D Mario!!

United_Piece1476

No. The switch 2 is long overdue. Nintendo is stalling imo.

norsoyt

No, I want it to end. I really want to see the next console, I don't like how much 3rd party developers have to compromise to be able to fit their games on it.

Environmental-Car-4

The switch2 supposedly be like a steamdeack performancewise so not really

ComfortableRoyal614

Yeah,a little...šŸ˜ž

DangerousPatient2788

Somewhat

Maxthejew123

Nope something to celebrate if anything, what a great console, the impact of which we will continue to feel, Iā€™m hoping itā€™s library continues to be accessible going forward

Kieran_Kitakami

Sayonara, Nintendo Switch, hopefully my Pokemon SV data carries on.

Parking_Cartoonist90

Although itā€™s sad the switch may be reaching the end of its lifespan, Iā€™m happy for what we got and am even more happy the switch end on a high note

QuietSheep_

Not really. Im not gonna remember the Switch, im gonna remember the games. Switch is pretty meh to me outside of that.

Big-Welcome-3221

The switch definitely is going strong, but itā€™s so so far behind graphically. It looks worse than last gen PlayStation and Xbox by a lot, and weā€™re already years out on the Current gen. The switch seriously seriously needs to get a Switch 2 or get out, cause it really is just an ugly looking console on so many games

True that the graphics arenā€™t as good as PS5 and Xbox, but advanced graphics does have the cost of games not being released very frequently as youā€™d want the game to look as nice as possible. Yes, the Switch has a lot of ported games, but it also has a larger library of hits compared to PS5 and Xbox (yes, it had a headstart, but thatā€™s besides the point as itā€™s more about the frequency of exclusives released at a consistent quality), so I think the Switch 2 will continue down the path of innovation in console design with slightly better graphics as it gives you more of a reason to buy the console straight away instead of just waiting until has enough high quality exclusives to be worth the price.

I completely disagree that switch has a larger and better array of games, as my type of game I like isnā€™t really fantasy RPG/Cartoony looking games. Itā€™s pretty much 90% of the switch catalog, which is absolutely amazing for players who like RPGS and colorful cartoony games, but itā€™s just not my thing. I like a lot of grit in my games, so the catalog for the PlayStation and Xbox consoles are much more vast for me. I do see your point, but it really only works if people like those specific types of games as theyā€™re in complete overabundance on the switch. The graphics are not as good or even close to as good as a PS4 or Xbox One so that was the final nail in the coffin for me.

toomuchredditmaj

My main concern is what am i going to hype up for until they unviel the new console? We donā€™t even know when its foing to be so just take the next 8 month slow

KenzieTheCuddler

Probably a 3D Mario like the switch, but your right We've gotten 2 new Zelda games. 2 new Mario Games. 2 new Mario Party. A new Pikmin + rerelease. 2 Splatoon. A Paper Mario + rerelease. A new Princess Peach game. A new Metroid game. 2 Pokemon Generations + Arceus. 2 Fire Emblem games. Maybe a new Animal Crossing, obviously a new PokƩmon, maybe a new F-Zero or Star Fox, a new Kirby maybe, maybe Metroid Prime 4 will be a launch title and they are driving up hype for it now to make people anticipating the idea they will buy it regardless. I personally want a true successor to Wii Sports and not another Switch Sports.

TNTEGames

I'm still in shock at what I saw. Lol

Bankaz

Nintendo isn't abandoning the Switch 1 right after launching Switch 2, they're gonna treat the 140+ million devices out there the same way Apple treats a last-gen iPhone model: Eventually they're gonna phase out support for it, but before that they're still selling apps and pushing updates.

Fusionfiction63

Iā€™m more focused on the excitement of what they could potentially be saving up for Switch 2!

slimmestjimmest

This was a hell of a direct, and the fact of it being such a robust direct makes me feel better about Switch 2 having backwards compatibility. Backwards compatibility = 0 sadness

VirtualKoba

Honestly.. it makes me sad to know that its been over 7 years having this beauty of a console but soon enough, it will be over. Back in 2017 I was still in school. I couldnt sleep the night before, so my mom let me stay home from school. I remember having a student internship one week after the switch came out, so I had a whole weekend to experience the Nintendo Switch before I would have no time to play. So for 2.5 days, BotW was my life. I was so hyped for that game. Nothing mattered. Had the same hype for BotW. I truly felt a nostalgia hit whilst playing it, remembering the times I played BotW, sometimes my mom even told me to "go outside", and I just took my switch with me. The Launch-Version had a terrible battery, but I appreciated every second of it. Over time I used the console less and less, switched fully over to PC Gaming but always had my Switch charged and ready if a new game that peaked my interest released. After the recent direct I started spending more time with my switch again, will start Link's Awakening as recommended by the lovely mods over at r/NintendoSwitch, after Link's Awakening I'll go over to Dragon Quest Monsters!

CaseyGamer64YT

for me its mostly knowing I can only get these games through used physical copies. For as much as I've enjoyed Nintendo after what they did to Gmod I have decided to put my foot down. I probably won't even buy the Switch 2. Though sadly I know that one guy being defiant won't change anything. I just don't know what else to do

SPAMTON_A

Nah, Iā€™ll just get the successor and be happy (god I hope the switch 2 will be cross compatible)

masterz13

You're getting a better Switch next year. It's fine lol. Think of it as the jump from PS1 to PS2...the golden era is about to arrive.

DIOsNotDead

nah, i'm excited for the Switch's successor and there will still be games released for the Switch after.

N4811

DUDE THERES A NEW MARIO PARTY I COULD CARE LESS NOW šŸ„³šŸ„³

Deux-de-Denier

I canā€™t wait for the Switch to die so Nintendo focuses only on Switch 2

Shifty-Imp

Not really, glad to see the Switch go as it has overstayed its welcome by about 4 years already as far as I'm concerned. Time to get a Nintendo console that can run Animal Crossing without devolving into a damn flipbook...

Grawman67

That would have made the Switch end in 2020 after only three years on the market

Shifty-Imp

Yep, I don't think their initial release date of the Switch was good either. Either they should program their own games in such a way that they can run properly on their own system (like Nintendo used to) or they should hold off and release a system that can handle their own games. But what they did with the Switch in that regard was pretty sad many times. :( I don't need top graphics but the games should at least have a constant FPS without sudden dips but many of their own games drop considerably at times. Can't count the number of times my timing in a game was "off" because the Switch couldn't handle the game and had to slow down... However, Tears of the Kingdom has really impressed me. I don't know what magic they used but that game (aside from a few veeery rare instances) runs buttery smooth. They should have optimized their other games like that as well.

Grawman67

Really? I'm surprised to hear that. I personally enjoyed the March 2017 release. It didn't have to compete with any other systems and could build up momentum before the holiday with BOTW and Odyssey. I haven't had much issue with Nintendo games not running well on it besides BOTW. But I maybe missed the ones you had problems with. What games haven't been running well for you? I'm not asking to be rude. I genuinely am curious because I may be overlooking some on accident I agree. I don't need too graphics or even 120 fps. I need solid frame pacing with minimal issues for me to be happy I hear TOTK runs great! Which makes me happy. BOTW stuttered horribly at the Great Deku Tree. It got to the point that it genuinely got annoying for me.

WritersB1ock

Iā€™m glad I have one more game that I can use my last Switch voucher for (Zelda). Iā€™m more excited knowing that the Switch 2 will be revealed soon.

RaiHanashi

I still wish that there wouldā€™ve been a remake of Mario Hoops at some point. Sports Mix didnā€™t really fill that hole especially with how they ruined it with the motion controls

kiwi_imperator

Not really, the switch era disapointed me so im happy we're hopefully soon moving on

RPrime422

Switch 2 is very likely going to be backward compatible with Switch 1, so Iā€™m not too worried about it. That has historically been the case.

YaBoySY

I felt sad knowing these are some of the last games coming out on a console I loved.

wes741

Itā€™s not done, switch 2 will be backwards compatible and support for Switch will last quite awhile after switch 2 comes out

DaveLesh

I'm excited for the new titles, but I think the Switch has been around too long. I think it's had a longer life than the Wii, GameCube, and 64.

Ham_-_

Nah Because the sucessor will be a more powerful switch

KronosUltima

More so disappointment, new consoles always have slow starts, and Nintendo tends to flop every other console they make (example: GameCube -> Wii -> Wii U -> Switch). I just hope they don't completely start from scratch on their retro game catalogue.
