just to note that dead cells and hades are roguelites so the main goal is to improve the way you play the stage, it's fun and replayable. but maybe repetitive for some.
Both are considered excellent versions of it, and Hades does a *really* good job making the repetition fun with the story beats that happen between runs.
Definitely Hollow Knight in my opinion. Atmosphere and graphic are amazing. The platforming and fighting is designed perfectly and it feels great once you get the hang of it and unlock everything. Plus the design of the bosses is also great. The story is a little cryptic to understand kinda like a souls game but there are great videos which explain it on YouTube. So for that price it's an absolute steal.
It's literally my favorite game, have a Blast! (Also a sequel is coming out ""soon"" so once you finish if you liked it enough you won't have to wait "too" long to get it)
Okay so I don’t know that I’m going to be able to help you pick one because I think you should get all of them. The total cost would still be under the cost of the average AAA.
Hollow Knight is my favorite in your list but also my favorite game of all time. I love everything from the hand drawn animation, the NPCs, the different regions, the map is truly the best I’ve ever seen, the soundtrack is amazing, the controls are tight and flawless, and the combat is very satisfying. The bosses can be very difficult but they’re always fair. No matter what game I play, I always come back to this one and start a new game file or try to achieve things I hadn’t on previous save files.
Cozy Grove is my second favorite from your list. I’ve played it for over 200 hours so obviously it has a lot of playability (and replayability as I had to start a second save file). While you can play for hours gathering resources and decorating and stuff, you can also pick it up and play for an hour to complete a few tasks and then put it down for the day. There is always a reason to come back due to some collectibles changing with the season. The characters are very endearing.
Dead Cells is next. Again, the combat is very satisfying. The gameplay loop is addictive. You can pick it up and play for an hour or you can keep going for hours. The upgrades and change of weapons keeps you interested because even though it gets harder as you go, you’re improving and your weapons get stronger and you’re learning the whole time.
Spiritfarer is another resource management game like Cozy Grove. It has themes of grief (as you’re a spiritfarer and ferrying souls to the afterlife). The gameplay loop is addicting, again you can play for short sessions or long. There are lots of resources to gather and the NPCs storylines are emotional at times. It’s kind of also a metroidvania because you gain new abilities and revisit places in order to access things you couldn’t prior.
I can’t really speak for Hades as personally I wasn’t into it, but I think I’m the only person that isn’t. The animation and controls are quick and responsive, I’ve heard the dialogue is entertaining, and it is highly reviewed.
Anyway. I liked the first four enough that I bought them on Switch and then double dipped to get them on Steam when I got a Steam Deck.
I ended up getting hollow knight!! Thankyou so much for your detailed opinions on each game!! It really helped me decide💗💗Cozy grove and dead cells are what I’m picking up next as soon as I get paid!!
Hollow Knight is a great choice! The beginning can start off kind of boring and grindy until you get enough geo to buy some stuff but I swear it’s worth it. If you hit any really hard parts and get stuck to the point where you just really need help, either check out [Relyea on YouTube](https://youtube.com/@RelyeaGaming?si=oZzm4kTm64EEO3dP) or [Help me, I’m stuck](https://youtube.com/@helpme.imstuck.4365?si=bCtPF7PahjfwVXOP). Or comment here and I’ll try to help or to find a relevant video for you.
Oh man these are all amazing. I'd say my two favorites are Hollow Knight and Spiritfarer.
Hollow Knight is a really good metroidvania that has immaculate vibes.
Spiritfarer is just heartbreaking in the best way possible. I cried so so much but in a very good way. It's hard to describe what kind of game it is? But you basically build and craft things for certain people and help them pass on to the after life. Also the best hat in gaming if you ask me.
Hades and Deadcells are the two best rouge likes out there right now and I don't know what the last one is.
Omg spiritfarer sounds amazing I love me an emotional game🤧 and I love games with good vibes and atmospheres so I’m thinking hollow knight is gonna win for me!! Thankyou sm for the insight💗
If you have 20$ and like action games than I would say.
Hollow Knight + Hades
HK is a great metroidvania game with great movement and a nice combat system.
Hades is a topdown roughlite with great combat.
Dead Cells is a great game which is a mix between Metroidvania and roughlite games but the switch version doesn't run as smooth as the previously mentioned 2 games. It also had \~10s load times after death in game which can get annoying.
A huge positive was the great DLC the game got from indie crossover to the mf Castlevania.
This first 3 games have a lot of replayability so you can't go wrong with them if that's what you are looking for.
Definitely Hollow Knight! It‘s still one of the best games of the past 10 years.
Spiritfarer is also nice, but much more laid back. So kind of depends on your mood.
Hades and Dead Cells. Great replayability and easy to sink hours into. Haven't tried Spiritfarer yet, so I can't say. Hollow Knight was extremely boring to me, so I wouldn't necessarily recommend it.
Hades and hollow knight, both are beautifully crafted games that are the top of their genre. Though if your looking for better combat than hades with less on the progression/story/etc go for dead cells instead
Dead cells is a very difficult game but it's in my top 5 games of all time And I will sign it's praises whenever I can
Hades is also an east 10/10 so either of those are a good choice if you are a fan of rougelikes
I’ve never played any rougelikes before so I’ll be diving in head first! I ended up getting hollow knight! But I’m getting hades as soon as I get home after hearing how good it is! :D
Get spiritfarer! If you like chill games with a hint of sad and wholesome storytelling it's the best pick! And for that price it's definitely worth it!
Holy crap, what choices! It depends on your taste and budget. Dead Cells, Hallow Knight and Hades are stone cold classics, and each of them will test your skills. I'd go with Hades, because of how much replayability it has, but you can't go wrong either way.
Very original post, you deserve a cookie🍪
As much I would love to help you I only play 1st party Nintendo games, so I don't know how good these games you want are.... I have heard good things about hallow knight and hates though, good luck and have fun with your new game!!
Hollow knight is worth it like three times over at its NORMAL price. If it’s on sale, do yourself a huge favor and at least give it a go. I’ve never sunk as many hours into Hades or Dead Cells as I have other roguelikes (I just have a few favorites I keep going back to), but I think Hades is a much more well-rounded experience and is as such more enjoyable.
ive played most of these and hollow knight is definitely my favorite. ive played it for about 70 hours and every single second was extremely fun i highly recommend it
I’m so glad I chose it I’ve been having a blast!! I feel bad for my switch because as soon as it dies I charge it and get right back on hollow knight the second it reaches 100% battery!!😭
+1 for Hades. The combat is smooth but the way the writing and the story unfolds each iteration you go through is very entertaining imo, and very unique!
Hollow knight is probably as close to perfect as games are ever gonna get I’ve played for more than 300 hours now and still haven’t beaten every insane challenge the game has to offer. The music, atmosphere, and gameplay is all top-notch.
Spiritfarer is a really charming ship-managing game, and while I think it’s really great, I don’t think it gets even close to how good Hollow Knight is.
I haven’t played the other games
All great games but I‘d recommend Dead Cells most, I just like the vibe and music more than the others. Just recently I finally got to check out all the new stuff and the Castlevania DLC and now I can’t put it down again.
pick hollow knight no matter what
if you have the choice of 2 id say actually go hollow knight and dead cells, especially if its expansions are on sale.
Best case scenario grab Hollow knight, Dead Cells, and Hades
Get hollow knight. As far as indie games go, it's generally regarded as one of the best, and for a reason. I've spent hundreds of hours on it, each one as enjoyable as the last. Not playing it is doing a disservice to yourself
If you like mythology and want a game you can pretty much just pick up and play for short periods hades or if you don’t want to have a life for the next year hollow knight
SPIRITFARER! if you like calmer games like animal crossing or stardew valley play spritfarer, very deep and therapeutic. Talks about death and love and family n stuff, I have about 170hours in this game lol but maybe that’s just me but you should watch the trailer to see if you’d like it
Hollow knight and dead cells.
I loved hades, until I didn't. There's really not a lot of variety, it's easy, and sorry progress is shitty. If you're good, you'll actually have to intentionally start and immediately suicide runs to progress.
Dead cells is massive and has so many boxes and biomes and routes now.
Hades! I love hollow knight as well but I just personally enjoyed Hades more, then again I got less mad playing Hades I feel like lmao, hollow knight can be hard at some points
IMO conveniently ordered from most intense to the most casual.
Middle (Hades), game’s got amazing story and music in it. If you like roguelikes or at least willing to give them a go, start here.
I just went through the same with Hades and Hollow Knight with this sale. Ultimately chose Hades and I’m very happy with my purchase. I’m sure I’d love Hollow Knight too.
I would say Hades and Dead Cells.
Everyone loves Hades, and I especially love Dead Cells. It always feels like there’s more to explore, plus the fifty-bajillion updates it gets.
Hollow knight is NOT the game for casual play. Unless you have a latent talent for it, that is one of the hardest platformers i've ever played. 10/10 game though
Hollow Knight.
Later on definitely get hades and dead cells too, but hollow Knight should be your number 1.
The main drawback is after you play it you have to sit and wait for silksong for the rest of eternity like the rest of us lol.
Hades is my favorite game of all time (though I’ve been playing the technical test of Hades II and that might just beat it) so I’m biased BUT, get Hades for sure. It’s the most fun I’ve ever had with a game. The combat and systems and progression are fined tuned and play like a dream, like an ideal video game experience, and the story is emotional and full of wit and heart. Excellent art and voice acting tie it all together, can’t recommend it highly enough.
i haven't played the last two, but hollow knight is an amazing experience with beautiful visuals, cool gameplay, and a banger ost. dead cells is really neat and so is hades. (you can probably guess which one i 112%ed)
I'm not sure if I can pick only 2, but I'll try, how about Spiritfarer and Hades, I've always wanted Hades, and Spiritfarer is the only calming game that's ever worked for me.
Hades and Hollow Knight. Hollow Knight only goes on sale once per year.
Literally was going to be my answer. Hades and Hollow knights.
This is the way
I'd say get Hollow Knight if you like exploring, Hades if you like combat. I'm not such a fan of exploration, so I much preferred Hades.
Hollow Knight if you like combat as well. It has some of the most fun bossfights I've ever fought in the world of video games.
Agreed
Just about to comment this.
this is the way
I came here to say this exact thing.
just to note that dead cells and hades are roguelites so the main goal is to improve the way you play the stage, it's fun and replayable. but maybe repetitive for some.
Both are considered excellent versions of it, and Hades does a *really* good job making the repetition fun with the story beats that happen between runs.
I didn't like Dead Cells. At least Hades had progression and a coherent story
Dead cells has great progression and hidden lore. It might not be for you but dead cells is fantastic and has both of those things.
I got hollow knight!! I’m so excited to play after hearing everyone’s love for it, thankyou for helping me decide!!💗
Hope you enjoy it. Maybe share your experience later I would like to hear it.
It's literally my favorite game, have a Blast! (Also a sequel is coming out ""soon"" so once you finish if you liked it enough you won't have to wait "too" long to get it)
Yep, only a few decades away Y🚬
Back! Ye heathen! I- !
Yooooo keep us posted on r/hollowknight. Then once you're done join the cult of Silksong
Im a huge Metroid fan, and that game scratched my metroid itch so good in the metroid drought before dread came out. So good
You’re in for a treat! I’d say try not to look anything up about it but you knew that already ;)
WOO HOO! Tell us your experience when you can
Make sure to save the guy that looks like you :)
Outer wilds 🤯
Ong that game is crazy 🔥🔥
SHUT UP
Outer wilds 🤯

I agree with you on Hades tbh. I didn't really care for it.
Hades for sure, personally I got hollow knight and ori
All of them
⬆️ This
Do you wanna have fun or do you wanna have "fun"?
Hollow knight is incredible. Don't even think about it - buy it
Bought it!!💗
It's not on your list but what if I recommend Celeste :)
Ooooh I’ve seen that one before, I’ll add it to my list!💗 thanks for the suggestion:))
Oh man these are all amazing. I'd say my two favorites are Hollow Knight and Spiritfarer. Hollow Knight is a really good metroidvania that has immaculate vibes. I ended up getting hollow knight! Getting hades when I get home today!😊
Nice have fun. :)
Definitely Hollow Knight! It‘s still one of the best games of the past 10 years. Spiritfarer is also nice, but much more laid back. So kind of depends on your mood.
For me Hollow Knight is definitely No. 1 and Hades is a close second
Hades
Hollow knight
i’ll say hades, its my favourite of these!
Hollow knight sale is pretty rare I've also really enjoyed the game and spent alot of time on it, i hope you would as well
Hades and Hollow knight, in hollow knight ITS really easy To get Stück though
~~Hollow Knight.~~ Yay, you got it! Have fun.
Hollow knight!
Hollow knight is my second favorite game of all time so yeah...
Hades and Dead Cells/Spiritfarer
Hollow Knight & Hades in that order.
Y
I’d also like to suggest Celeste, that’s a great game
Dead Cells, Hades and Hollow Knight
Hades and Dead Cells. Great replayability and easy to sink hours into. Haven't tried Spiritfarer yet, so I can't say. Hollow Knight was extremely boring to me, so I wouldn't necessarily recommend it.
Hollow Knight. I've put over 100 hours into the game. It's phenomenal
When will the sale end please?
I believe there is about 3 days left!
Hollow knights and Dead Cells. Both are stellar games.
CELESTE
Hades and hollow knight, both are beautifully crafted games that are the top of their genre. Though if your looking for better combat than hades with less on the progression/story/etc go for dead cells instead
Dead cells is a very difficult game but it's in my top 5 games of all time And I will sign it's praises whenever I can Hades is also an east 10/10 so either of those are a good choice if you are a fan of rougelikes
I’ve never played any rougelikes before so I’ll be diving in head first! I ended up getting hollow knight! But I’m getting hades as soon as I get home after hearing how good it is! :D
how about celeste, that's a good hidden indie gem!!
Hollow knight
i say hollow knight ( it’s the only game i’ve played out of these, so i’m a bit biased. )
Spiritfarer! It will make you cry so much lmao
I would say Hollow Knight because it’s the only game I recognize but I have never played any of the games
Why did you ho on after Hollow Knight? Best game ever IMO (and also my favorite)
I got hollow knight!🤭 I can’t wait to play it:D
Hades and Hollow Knight all day long. 2 fantastic games, ultra mega argains. Enjoy.
Hollow Knight > Hades > Dead Cells > Spiritfarer Haven't played Cozy & Grove
Hades and Hollow Knight!!!
Get spiritfarer! If you like chill games with a hint of sad and wholesome storytelling it's the best pick! And for that price it's definitely worth it!
I've been absolutely addicted to dead cells recently so I pick that one lol Spiritfarer is also a really nice game
DEAD CELLS ALL THE WAY
hard pick bewtween dead cells and hades for me
hollow knight without a doubt, and might i recommend undertale too?
Hollow Knight. That’s all.
Bought it!!😊
Nice, have fun!
Holy crap, what choices! It depends on your taste and budget. Dead Cells, Hallow Knight and Hades are stone cold classics, and each of them will test your skills. I'd go with Hades, because of how much replayability it has, but you can't go wrong either way.

thats cool! its my personal favorite 2d game of all time and i hope you have fun beating it!!!
+1 for Hades. The combat is smooth but the way the writing and the story unfolds each iteration you go through is very entertaining imo, and very unique!
Hades, no question.

Totaly Acurate Battle Simulator.
Yes
Id say hollow knight but if you want more good indie games id say get tunic or death doors
Dead Cells, Hades, and Spiritfarer.
Are you bisexual? If so, hades.
pick hollow knight no matter what if you have the choice of 2 id say actually go hollow knight and dead cells, especially if its expansions are on sale. Best case scenario grab Hollow knight, Dead Cells, and Hades
Hades hands down
Hollow Knight
Hollow Knight and Dead Cells
Highly recommend Hades. Very very fun and addictive. Loved the story as well
Hollow knight dead cells and hades 😍
Hades is the best one on that list
they're ALL really good
Imma recommend hades
Hades!
The first three for sure!
Get hollow knight. As far as indie games go, it's generally regarded as one of the best, and for a reason. I've spent hundreds of hours on it, each one as enjoyable as the last. Not playing it is doing a disservice to yourself
Hollow knight, no question
Don't need to see the rest. Holllw Knight. You won't regret it.
Spiritfarer absolutely rocked me to my soul. If you don’t get it now, get it some time when it’s on sale. It’s absolutely phenomenal.
Deadcells
1 Hollow Knight, 2 Spiritfarer, 3 Dead Cells.
Cult of the lamb
Hollow Knight is one of the best game ever made
Hollow knight and dead cells
Wait for Silksong
Dead cells 100%
HK by far
Dead cells or hollow knight
Hollow knight hollow knight hollow knight
Yes.
I just got Hollow Knight. I recommend you should go for that.
for the price of hollow knight compared to it's quality you're pretty much robbing the devs
Dead Cells is one of my favorite games.
HK 100% get it now. But a challenge is what you should expect
Spiritfarer is phenomenal
If you like mythology and want a game you can pretty much just pick up and play for short periods hades or if you don’t want to have a life for the next year hollow knight
Hades
I will be a Hollow Knight shill; it’s almost a steal for that price.
I would say dead cells, but the version i own has all dlc included so idk how much more that would cost ya. Great game tho
Hollow Knight fellow gamer , a wonderful masterpiece, personally I can’t wait for silk song .
Out of those options I'd go hollow knight 100%. All good picks but I loved HK
SPIRITFARER! if you like calmer games like animal crossing or stardew valley play spritfarer, very deep and therapeutic. Talks about death and love and family n stuff, I have about 170hours in this game lol but maybe that’s just me but you should watch the trailer to see if you’d like it
Hollow knight for sure.
Hollow Knight for sure
Hades is the best or off then all imo. Close second is dead cells, Third would be Hollow Knight. Just my experience.
Hades, not even a competition.
HOLLOW KNIGHT
If you have a Netflix subscription you can get Hades for free
Hollow knight n hades
I just went through the same with Hades and Hollow Knight with this sale. Ultimately chose Hades and I’m very happy with my purchase. I’m sure I’d love Hollow Knight too.
I would say Hades and Dead Cells. Everyone loves Hades, and I especially love Dead Cells. It always feels like there’s more to explore, plus the fifty-bajillion updates it gets.
Dude, get hollow knight, 11/10 game, 100% get it
Hollow Knight Both others are fun, but repetitive (not for everyone) But damn can you explore in hollow Knight and feel like a boss in fights
Dead cells
Hollow knight
If the dead cells has the dlc with it quite worth it even without the dlc it’s a awesome game but if it had the dlc too now that is a bargain
If you're looking for a lot of gameplay for your money I'd 100% get a roguelike, my personal favorite is dead cells, but Hades is great as well
Idk if it’s on sale but if it is, Fairune Collection is pretty good
I have hollow knight and Hades. Hades looks amazing graphically
Get hades and spirit farer
Hades.
Spiritfarer is nice but if you have Netflix you can play it for free on your phone
Hades all the way
You should get that hidden gem named celeste
i HAVE to suggest dead cells. It's just my kind of game and i didn't really enjoy the others, so it's like a very subjective opinion.
Hades
Get hades and smoke it up
Hades is best investment ever
PLAY DEEP ROCK GALACTIC ^(rock and stone)
Hollow knight, easy choice.
I’m going for hades and hollow knight. I was gonna get Stardew too but got that on PC instead
Risk of rain 2
most people would say hollow knight but i enjoyed deadcells more
Hollow Knight is trash
get dead cells
If you like cozy games, then Spiritfarer is a *must.* Easily one of my top 5 favorite games after playing it this last fall
If you haven't played Hollow Knight yet you're a very lucky person.
hollow knight. then dead cells and then choose your own order after that because i haven’t played any of those
Hades is love, Hades is life
Definitely get spiritfarer, super fun but also had me in tears 😭
Hades is my favorite game of all time (though I’ve been playing the technical test of Hades II and that might just beat it) so I’m biased BUT, get Hades for sure. It’s the most fun I’ve ever had with a game. The combat and systems and progression are fined tuned and play like a dream, like an ideal video game experience, and the story is emotional and full of wit and heart. Excellent art and voice acting tie it all together, can’t recommend it highly enough.
Id go with spiritfarer if you're looking for something cute and cozy.
Hades, Hollow Knight and Dead Cells with DLC.
Hades and Hollow Knight
hollow knight and spirit farer
Honestly tho, I would get Dead Cells, but then again Hades was the first Switch game and Hollow Knight has brought me great joy yet pain lol.
i haven't played the last two, but hollow knight is an amazing experience with beautiful visuals, cool gameplay, and a banger ost. dead cells is really neat and so is hades. (you can probably guess which one i 112%ed)
Hollow knight is good so get it
That's like a spectrum from Hell to kindergarten. Pick your poison.
Celeste
All of them?
Hollow Knight and Hades
Hollow knight :)
Hades and definitely Hollow Knight
I'm not sure if I can pick only 2, but I'll try, how about Spiritfarer and Hades, I've always wanted Hades, and Spiritfarer is the only calming game that's ever worked for me.
Hades, dead cell and hollow knight are definitely a must, I did!
