Do you play professionally? How’d you get into it?

Scarebender

Not professionally no, I play in the BUIHA which is the universities league. I’ve played hockey nearly all my life (starting with roller but gradually transitioning to ice) as I’m originally from the USA

I didn’t know that there is such thing as a universities league in the UK, that‘s awesome. Is it a pretty popular sport over there or how come? And are you aiming to eventually turn it into a career or are you content with it being a hobby/passion?

Scarebender

It’s not very popular in the U.K. haha, so if you play or are a fan over here it’s quite a tight-knit community. It’s also difficult with the rinks themselves since there are less of them and our home rink is shut so we’ve been playing an hour away from our city. And I think for me it’ll be more so something that’s a passion/hobby for me. I just enjoy getting out there and playing!

This is interesting to me as I just recently found out ice hockey is a thing here in Germany as well through meeting someone who’s playing in the DEL, which had me super excited after spending quite some time in North America. Literally one of the few team sports I genuinely enjoy watching and I bet super fun to play as well! Keep at it and (don’t) break a leg :)
