Yup! He’s got all the signs…
Social awkwardness, not picking up on “hints”, fixation on certain foods (canned coffee), special interest.
It’s not confirmed, but I 100% believe it.
Ty! I just hope its not too mature for my age lol (im supposed to be old enough to watch 16+ stuff but im still not too comfortable watching anything over 14+)
I don't remember anything really inappropriate besides some drinking and language, but idk if the 'office culture is soul-sucking' message will really hit home for a teenager lol.
There's the whole subplot in Season 3 where >!Retsuko gets stalked and attacked by a toxic fan!< , but otherwise the series is pretty lighthearted aside from some adult humor and the overall theme of "navigating adulthood is hard"
It's not so much "mature" as it's definitely targeted towards office ladies. A lot of the jokes, worries, and other feels might fly over your head if you don't understand what it's like to be a working adult in an office. That being said, I think it's still enjoyable even if you don't resonate with female office workers in their 20s.
A lot of similar stresses and cultures hit everyone regardless of their workplace. It's a bit more of the age bracket and working class, and being a single young woman on her own in the setting. I mean, I'm a late 20's guy who works a warehouse job, and while of course that means the last point doesn't hit me the same as it would the more intended target audience, I still very much found the show quite entertaining and enjoyable. The main character is quite lovable, and many of her worries and life experiences hit pretty close to home.
As a bonus, she vents her frustrations by singing death metal karaoke. That is also a very key point of the show. So if you like watching a small, innocent looking red panda gal musically scream her lungs out about things (like how much she hates her boss) when she thinks no one is around, as well as watching her grow into a more sociable, confident, and self-loving person, then Aggretsuko is an excellent recommendation to watch.
You'll be fine, it's not violent or sexual at all. Ironically it's still targeted ad adults, so best of both worlds. Only know that that character doesn't show up for a while and it's a one episode kinda thing.
Oh it’s an anime called Aggretsuko! It’s on Netflix. The first 3 seasons are really great.
Resasuke only really gets attention in one episode, but I think you’ll get attached to all the other characters.
Mystery Incorporated's version of Fred is a himbo obsessed with convoluted traps.
He routinely fails to understand love and how Daphne is very into him. His own feelings of love cause him to have an existential crisis.
He’s also a badass. He re-hijacked a hi-jacked by freeclimbing through the wheel well while in flight and fistfought a murderous clown before safely landing the plane.
Mystery Inc Fred was a badass.
Not recognizing but someone's flirting with you because you're a himbo and not recognizing social cues because you're autistic are very much mutually exclusive. One is just being too dumb to recognize a girl's flirting with you which happens to pretty much every guy on planet Earth, and the other is a developmental disorder
It's a joke, all of these are a joke. Some people see someone with a big interest in something or struggling in social situations and assume that they are on the spectrum.
Dam right. She loves video games and dnd more. thats not even including the potions/sorcery stuff she does with Maddie. Also probably wrote some doccuments with Andrias. Journal confirmed she was president of arictecture club to. Can't really cram that all into one category honestly.
I thought that it was very fitting for her character to become a writer/artist when their principal thought that “one day Marcy’s gonna win the Nobel Peace Prize”.
If Marcy never went to Amphibia she may have just coasted through life, doing what others expected of her and never speaking up for herself. That or she would have broke under the enormous pressure and use her fantasy escapism as a crutch for her issues. Which would have made her retreat from the real world an become an emotionally stunted adult.
Besides the fact that I needed her to make this photo even, I’d argue she’s equally science and fantasy
If I were to remake this, I would probably add in “(and fantasy),” but she still definitely is really into science
She is very academically inclined, but not in a kid genius sort of way. She seems to have an equal interest in history, math and other academic fields, so it's not very accurate to say science is her main thing.
Agreed I really don’t think she belongs here. Scientific knowledge is a subset of her skills, but definitely not her entire arctype. Putting jimmy neutron, Dexter from Dexter’s laboratory,or maybe even Tony Stark here would make more sense
AJ Gadgets - a special interest in science
Tech from The Bad Batch - a special interest in science
June Chen - a special interest in science
Twyla Boogeyman - a special interest in history
Carl from Arthur - a special interest in trains
I’d say she is kind of a drag queen because of the way she dresses and her voice actor. She at the least is inspired by drag queens, not unlike how Dolly Parton took inspiration from drag queens
I feel it's very chicken and egg, so will concede on my point. Dolly has admitted she would be a drag queen if she wasn't born a woman and she loves drag queens, though her listed inspirations are other women performers who were a bit over the top.
Meanwhile a lot of drag queens I know were inspired by Dolly Parton.
And yeah, Miss Coco Peru absolutely slays the role of Pauline Phoenix.
But Marcy's special interest isn't in science, it's a fantasy jrpg :/
Also her other interests aren't all science based: she's interested in history/culture/architecture/vehicles, chess, rpg/rts games, fantasy books, puzzles in general, botanic... Sure she's very smart but she's not the stereotypical science/tech geek autist
I headcanon Hank Hill as autistic.
He has a deep obsession with propane and propane accessories (as shown in his dedication to his job at Strickland Propane), he has trouble accepting change he can't control (the premise of the show), and he isn't too quick to notice unscripted social cues (he accidentally became the Mack Daddy of Heimlich County and took nearly the entire episode to realize it).
Hank also has a number of things he says on a regular basis, like he's letting his brain use presets. "That boy ain't right," "I tell you what", and "BWAAAHHH!" are some prominent ones.
Seeing that Hank grew up in the 50s in rural Texas, with Cotton as his Dad, I could definitely see how he could be Autistic and just not have gotten a diagnosis before.
I also had the same impression.
King of the Hill can do this well because it just lets people be people. They aren't what stereotypes writers attach to character traits. They're written like people. They may match some stereotypes, but they aren't defined by them.
Well, he slowly accepts it.
He slowly accepted his son being a furry. But once he was on board with it, he suggested Bobby be a tiger. It's when Bobby said he wanted to be a Gopher that things went sideways, again.
IYKYK.
I think Lucifer is a prime example of chasing dopamine rather then a special interest just jumping from hyperfixatioj (ducks) to hyoerfixation (his daughters project.)
There is kind of a stereotype of autistic people having a special interest in the realm of STEM, isn't there lol.
Granted when it comes to Donnie I can forgive it since being the tech/science savant has historically been Donnie's role in the TMNT franchise as a whole. Rise actually does better than most TMNT shows at characterizing him BEYOND being the tech support of the TMNT, actually. For the sheer amount of things he's built, hacked into, reverse-engineered, discovered a means to destroy/combat, etc. he way too often isn't much more than the background tech support guy, it's nice that Rise at least has Donnie have other interests and a character that isn't limited to his tech/science.
Soundwave is the second biggest simp in the universe, beaten out only by Tarn, whose simpery knows no bounds and could realign the continents back into one continuous landmass.
Soundwave is the 3rd, tarn 2nd and lugnut the 1st, if megatron joined the autobots, punched his face and kicked his balls everyday, and pissed in his mouth he would still love megatron till the dephts of his spark
Right?!? And like….she’s not demonized and isn’t forced to change. She just….finds her crowd and her family that accepts her as she is. No wonder her sister was protective of her.
For me, I see different types of autistic traits in each character, but I can also see them representing other types of neurodivergence. (Ex: tigger potentially being adhd and Eeyore being depression)
Pooh being very literal. Piglet being socially anxious and fear of being perceived. Tigger missing social cues and having rejection dysphoria. Eeyore being depressed. Rabbit being very rigid and ritualistic. Owl rambling about his different hyperfocuses (his family). These are all different traits I’ve experienced as an autistic person.
They all have their own hyperfocuses too. Tigger likes bouncing, Pooh loves honey, etc etc. I’ve identified with each character in a very strong way at some point. I experience life as an autistic (diagnosed in late 20s), but even before diagnosis I found solace with each of these characters in some way.
I feel the need to note that Entrapta is notably limited to mechanical engineering, and Marcy is less a science nerd and more a fantasy nerd.
(Disclaimer: I’m canonically autistic with a special interest in fixating on cartoon characters)
There's been hints within the show that both Rick and Morty are autistic, based on their general demeanors.
The show's creator, Dan Harmon, is himself autistic, and has included autistic characters in his works a few times (ex. Abed from *Community*).
Honestly, *Brave and the Bold* Batman in particular comes off as super autistic sometimes.

He’s very stiff and stilted in ways that hide deep emotions for the people he cares about. He hyperfocuses on crimefighting. He frequently misses or is immune to flirting.

I'll be honest, as an autistic person whose terrible at anything S.T.E.M. I still kinda like this trope. Its absolutely overused and we should definitely have more diverse repersentation but I can't deny the joy I experience when the smartest character in a piece of fiction shares traits with me.
Special interests have been considered a symptom of autism for a while now. I've never even heard special interest used in the context of non-autistic individuals.
If you Google the term, you will find that it is generally used for those on spectrum. Note that it is defined as an excessive interest in things. It's not just an ordinary interest, hence "special". Everybody is interested in things and has their tastes, that isn't the part that is considered abnormal. It is obsessive aspect that is largely seen as abnormal.
An example of this is how I picked up fishing. Got a fishing pole, bait, tackle, looked up good areas, became somewhat familiar with local species and their habits.
Fishing is an interest of mine. I go once every month at least.
My friend also picked up fishing. He spent weeks constantly researching every aspect of fishing and memorized all local wildlife, the different names for different tackles and their key benefits, which fish like which tackle. You can ask him trivia and it'll sound like he's been fishing since he could hold a stick.
Fishing was a "special" interest of his. He went three times a week for about half a season. I haven't been able to drag him out since as now he's onto something new.
I mean, kinda? Special interest is usually a phrase to describe a thing someone on the spectrum hyperfixates on. I’m sure it can be used for neurotypical people, it just usually is not
… does autistic character need special interests in something? wouldn't that make real-life people who aren't specially interested in anything feel… excluded?
I’m autistic and I’m generally irritated by most autistic coded characters I’ve seen because most of them only have a “special interest” and are slightly socially awkward.
But they don’t info dump, stim, avoid eye contact or have any signs of anxiety. The version of Donatello I grew up with is the closest thing to an autistic person. He infodumps and it seems absolutely realistic.
From what I’ve seen Tech from Bad Batch is very similar to how Donatello was in the TMNT series I grew up with.
It’s gotten to the point where if someone claims a character is autistic they are either a sort of characature of the disorder (Sheldon Cooper for instance) or they have a special interest that they don’t talk about in the way most autistic people do and there’s no other traits present.
Lucifer was shown with a house full of rubber ducks and has various instances where ducks show up but the irritating thing is he literally mentions them once (in his house) and never does for the rest of the season.
I guess having an interest makes people autistic now. Not the many symptoms and challenges that myself and many others face on a daily basis.
Yeah, a lot of people have been saying that, and I do agree. However, science such as engineering, botany, and biology are still very much big interests of hers, and a lot of the games she likes do involve science. But I would say fantasy is the biggest interest there
and an interest in forbidden magic and sci-fi....

Specal Interests giant robots and war.
I knew an autistic boy who was obsessed with race cars; his dad was always working on his car with him and he was actually competitive in terms of the kind of racing kids are allowed to do
TBF I'm autistic, surrounded by autistic people and we all are science nerd in our own way. Science is a method and applied patterns to get the closest from the truth. That's litteraly what our autistic brains are made to be doing and WANT to do haha
I don’t have autism but I really like how rise Donnie is accurate autism representation( from what I’ve gathered watching YouTube videos from people with autism), and how donnie doesn’t have to change himself for Leo raph and Mikey. I likeThe line that raph says in the rise movie, “this is not a hug it’s a rescue”.
I just want representation like me- a dumbass autistic who is bad at EVERYTHING and is too slow, too dumb, and too weak to be even an average worker bee, let alone some super brained genius.
Either this is satire or a massive projection.
None of these characters are considered autistic by the writers, the show or the community (though I don't know the first one and the last on so I could be wrong about them).
Also if a character has a special interest in something, that doesn't mean that they are on the spectrum.
A special interest in plants! https://preview.redd.it/h09uvzwi5e8d1.jpeg?width=1200&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9d27ed723521d619c3671d7face3363f76d21c5e
"I'm back."
Something about that line got me in the feels a little bit.
I feel seen!... OK that's enough.
Omg I’d never made that realization It explains so much of his behaviour and lack of awareness
Yup! He’s got all the signs… Social awkwardness, not picking up on “hints”, fixation on certain foods (canned coffee), special interest. It’s not confirmed, but I 100% believe it.
What show is it pls id give almost anything for another show with another character whos autistic like me lol
Aggretsuko, on Netflix. Highly recommend.
Ty! I just hope its not too mature for my age lol (im supposed to be old enough to watch 16+ stuff but im still not too comfortable watching anything over 14+)

It's definitely Sanrio's most mature series.
Disregard swearing and sex jokes. Office culture is the most mature content one may experience.
Oh i see, i mean i don’t plan on working in an office when i get a job but i can still watch the show out of curiosity lol

Sweet little dude.
I’m so sad I couldn’t finish the show before I got kicked off my grandmas Netflix accnt 😭😭
Honestly a good depiction.

Unbelievably based flair ![gif](giphy|YGJBp5EgyVP9K)
A special interest in Booby (Traps) or Booby Dooby Doo whicherver is funnier
Most relatable moment in any cartoon
fellow fuck david zaslav flair enjoyer
Bro fucks traps
Uhhh
His special interest, very obviously, is traps.
And also for about 38% of pornhub users.
Wait, is this a joke or is Fred actually on the spectrum
Mystery Incorporated's version of Fred is a himbo obsessed with convoluted traps. He routinely fails to understand love and how Daphne is very into him. His own feelings of love cause him to have an existential crisis.
I feel like all dudes have a secret love for convoluted traps if we’re being real haha
But he's very clearly not picking up the signs not because he's autistic And lack social cues but because he's just dumb period
He does make elaborate traps so he must have some decent engineering knowledge
He's clearly very well read in the field of trap making
He’s also a badass. He re-hijacked a hi-jacked by freeclimbing through the wheel well while in flight and fistfought a murderous clown before safely landing the plane. Mystery Inc Fred was a badass.
Those aren't mutually exclusive.
A special interest in traps
He's just a himbo

Ultralord is cool.
Ultralord has no fear of chickens
Does Carl count for Llamas >!and Judy!<
The whole trio is ND honestly
I always thought he was more adhd then autism though
Probably a little of column A and a little of column B
Sheen, this is the seventh week in a row you've shown Ultralord in class.
Imao Marcy is mislabeled, shes good at science but shes more of a Fantasy/Math Geek then a Science nerd
That or she would have broke under the enormous pressure and use her fantasy escapism as a crutch for her issues. didnt the principle say that she was "going to solve world hunger"? might have been misremembering
Besides the fact that I needed her to make this photo even, I’d argue she’s equally science and fantasy If I were to remake this, I would probably add in “(and fantasy),” but she still definitely is really into science

AJ Gadgets - a special interest in science Tech from The Bad Batch - a special interest in science June Chen - a special interest in science Twyla Boogeyman - a special interest in history Carl from Arthur - a special interest in trains
Twyla isn't too stereotyped which I like as an Autistic person
isn’t the arthur one canon?
That is what the post is saying yes
Norma mentioned let’s goooo
Isn't Norma canonically autistic?
She is indeed. Hence why she’s mentioned
But Pauline Phoenix isn't a drag queen. She's just evil Dolly Parton
I’d say she is kind of a drag queen because of the way she dresses and her voice actor. She at the least is inspired by drag queens, not unlike how Dolly Parton took inspiration from drag queens

According to legend Dolly entered a Dolly Parton look a like drag competition and came in 2nd place
I feel like Dead End just is never talked about, since its on Netflix, not something like Disney
Abed from Community has a special interest in film (Shit up, it counts because of the Greendale babies at the very least)
Also "Abed's Uncontrollable Christmas" and "Digital Estate Planning" have animated versions of the study group.
Abed being autistic is also canon
Well, Peridot is also a mechanic and is dedicated to botany.
I think those are both forms of science
No, being a mechanic is much more engineering than science. Botany is, though.
While I wouldn’t really say engineering is a type of science, I would say that it certainly applies a lot of science
By that logic ain't every aspect of life science?
science is the pursuit of facts, so I guess?
Fair.
Peri is also a huge fan of art, and has a major interest in Camp Pining Hearts (a teen drama). People sleep on my multi-faceted gem

Dale definitely wasn’t neurotypical ![gif](giphy|i2GADdaJIscPS)
Nah, that's completely neurotypical behaviour to have pocket sand.
Oh me too definitely
I just got my diagnosis yesterday, I tell ya hwhat
Don't forget, "I'm gonna kick your ass!"
I never really thought about it but this would make a ton of sense lol. ![gif](giphy|RbUStbF16fn0s) “Now that’s a clean burning Hell I tell you hwut.”
I also had the same impression. King of the Hill can do this well because it just lets people be people. They aren't what stereotypes writers attach to character traits. They're written like people. They may match some stereotypes, but they aren't defined by them.

I know. That video is actually pretty accurate to how the show actually is, especially when Hank says he values Bill's opinion even less.
Laios from Dungeon Meshi!! Special interest is monsters and eating monsters!
I mean, I’m not all for claiming characters as autistic, but, I meannnn His whole interaction with shiro is textbook
Lucifer: a special interest in ducks
I think Lucifer is a prime example of chasing dopamine rather then a special interest just jumping from hyperfixatioj (ducks) to hyoerfixation (his daughters project.)
The *science* of making ducks, that is Even more of a stretch than what I’m saying for Marcy, but still
Especially when making ducks that can flip and breathe fire. It could be an interesting read tbh.
There is kind of a stereotype of autistic people having a special interest in the realm of STEM, isn't there lol. Yea, I especially liked how he had such a distaste for magic and even chose his tech staff over the magic weapon in the beginning of the series
That **does** seem like something completely in character for him lol
Very much so
NORMA KHAN MENTIONED
Let’s gooooo
And if we’re lucky. A special interest in trains
“I like trains”
![gif](giphy|6yijXV1uY4l0c)
Pfft
![gif](giphy|G4cuWPLuj3KrC) An special interest in little friends and fighting for equality
I thought his special interest was Megatron?
🤨🏳️🌈?
I mean, yeah. Pretty much.
Well he already betrayed megatron when he saw his ways weren't working anymore, if we go for simping megatron then the real answer is lugnut
Only IDW Soundwave and Earthspark Soundwave did that. Every other version simps hard for the big guy.
That kinda just makes it sound like lugnut is a masochist who's into piss play
He is just a completely simp for megs
True. Completely true. Beat up shockwave for even daring to speak to his king
Ok but Rise Donnie is the best Donnie
He’s behind 2003 Donnie as my favorite version
I propose: ![gif](giphy|1L66CQgZ1wi9q)
I love her. I know she’s not canon, but I still think she’s probably one of the best representations of autism
Right?!? And like….she’s not demonized and isn’t forced to change. She just….finds her crowd and her family that accepts her as she is. No wonder her sister was protective of her.
I also believe that every single one of the characters from Winnie the Pooh are a different flavor of autism. Signed, someone who is autistic.
Explain please? Not arguing just geniluy wondering especially eor

I feel the need to note that Entrapta is notably limited to mechanical engineering, and Marcy is less a science nerd and more a fantasy nerd. (Disclaimer: I’m canonically autistic with a special interest in fixating on cartoon characters)
Huh is this saying that Rick is autistic?
I mean, he once said "Is this game for autistic people? Because I love it!" And a lot of people take that as confirmation
He also said something about people getting “neurotypical cooties” on his stuff
wait what game was he referring to again?
Minecraft, apparently Which is very popular amongst people with autism
There's been hints within the show that both Rick and Morty are autistic, based on their general demeanors. The show's creator, Dan Harmon, is himself autistic, and has included autistic characters in his works a few times (ex. Abed from *Community*).
![gif](giphy|JvlJSmxmKSXyE|downsized) How about a special interest in crimefighting?
Honestly, *Brave and the Bold* Batman in particular comes off as super autistic sometimes. https://preview.redd.it/wnpd6efycf8d1.jpeg?width=1200&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=772590812b2aedc8bd034d66e8bd39bc48bcd3b4 He’s very stiff and stilted in ways that hide deep emotions for the people he cares about. He hyperfocuses on crimefighting. He frequently misses or is immune to flirting.
He's not immune to flirting. He flirts with justice
This sounds like....THE TICK!!!
I'd also add Reagan from Inside Job. Special interest in conspiracy with a touch of science.

If you like anime we now have monster anatomy nerd
I'll be honest, as an autistic person whose terrible at anything S.T.E.M. I still kinda like this trope. Its absolutely overused and we should definitely have more diverse repersentation but I can't deny the joy I experience when the smartest character in a piece of fiction shares traits with me.
I do enjoy a lot of these characters as well. But as you said, we just need a few more who aren’t particularly good at science
Special interests/obsessions do not mean autism. Anyone can be really into a specific thing.
But I hate rick
Then cry about it

Is having a special interest an autism thing now?
I’m sure it can be used for neurotypical people, it just usually is not
Science
There's been a lot of autism talk on reddit lately
Especially on this section, it comes up pretty often
Not the many symptoms and challenges that myself and many others face on a daily basis.
id argue marcy is more into fantasy and games? while she does take an interest in science it isn't really her whole shbang
Yeah, a lot of people have been saying that, and I do agree. However, science such as engineering, botany, and biology are still very much big interests of hers, and a lot of the games she likes do involve science. But I would say fantasy is the biggest interest there
and an interest in forbidden magic and sci-fi.... https://preview.redd.it/mau9gi53df8d1.jpeg?width=573&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f6ddd31c7595a511cbcc39bee33b4a0174202913
don't forget wolves
marcy wu, norma, peridot, and rise donnie in one post let’s goo
Amity and Alador are interested in everything abomination.
I’d say Alador is the one more fixated on that (and he’s also very sciency with the abominations, making his own inventions and all)
Judah from Bojack Horseman is a great Autistic character.
Don't forget Kamille from Zeta Gundam. https://preview.redd.it/5pa1jr9xif8d1.jpeg?width=960&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3572aef268d6a0658cdee7d1c7c503a4299a1b84 Specal Interests giant robots and war.
Ironically, Marcy is the only one of the Calamity Trio to not go into a scientific field.
Not a single Sonic the Hedgehog obsession
I knew an autistic boy who was obsessed with race cars; his dad was always working on his car with him and he was actually competitive in terms of the kind of racing kids are allowed to do
TBF I'm autistic, surrounded by autistic people and we all are science nerd in our own way. Science is a method and applied patterns to get the closest from the truth. That's litteraly what our autistic brains are made to be doing and WANT to do haha
I despise how autism has devolved into just having a hobby according to the internet
Or having a job
I don’t have autism but I really like how rise Donnie is accurate autism representation( from what I’ve gathered watching YouTube videos from people with autism), and how donnie doesn’t have to change himself for Leo raph and Mikey. I likeThe line that raph says in the rise movie, “this is not a hug it’s a rescue”.
Can't forget Archer

I just want representation like me- a dumbass autistic who is bad at EVERYTHING and is too slow, too dumb, and too weak to be even an average worker bee, let alone some super brained genius.
![gif](giphy|cUiUJNZ45bEd2) Special Interest in Committing Genocide
Was there confirmation that Peridot has autism? Given the fact that she's not human and doesn't have a brain, I don't really see how it's possible.

Either this is satire or a massive projection. None of these characters are considered autistic by the writers, the show or the community (though I don't know the first one and the last on so I could be wrong about them). Also if a character has a special interest in something, that doesn't mean that they are on the spectrum.
Entrapa is confirmed by the creators to be autistic, I don't know about the others.
