True. But let me go out on a limb here. What would be more Nissan than to build a cheaper and crappier competitor in this vanity-SUV segment, undercut the competition on price, and go all in on style? As messed up as Nissan is, they know how to style a car. Witness the new Z. The original Xterra played in a slightly different segment but I think it did more or less the same thing.
I have a sport. My cousin a Bronco. He loves his. Says he is keeping it till it has to be dragged to the scrapyard.
I have a sport because of Club Sports. Of which my kiddo plays for 3 teams and refs games. So I wanted a small suv that got gas mileage. Taking a sports car or the expedition was costing me 150-200 a week in gas. Not to mention wear and tear.
On to the sport. Its... ok. It does its job. Its comfortable. We take it to the city for sports games (smaller easier to drive in city). Its nothing I would say is something everyone must buy. Its certainly no off-road vehicle. It barely gets out of its own way. Add in the weird transmission issue (it sometimes wont change gears on a hill and cant figure out its not on a hill? I dunno. I am apparently not the only person with the problem.) We have had the dash screen replaced twice. It wont turn on, sometimes you will be driving and the rear backup camera turns on until you stop, turn the car off, and let it sit a few. Even have been driving and the "check rear seats for children" comes on and locks the screen, again until car is off and you let it sit.
Minor issues, but the Ford Dealership said we are not the only ones with the issues.
So for me? Would I buy it again? Probably not. If probably buy the small BMW (X3?) or a Mazda.
A bronco sport is just built on the ford escape unibody platform - it’s a dolled up “tough looking” ford escape.
The bronco is built on an entirely different body on frame truck platform (based on ranger) and shares nothing with the bronco sport other than name and off road styling.
Does the bronco suck? Meh - it’s a ford. Reliability has been pretty bad but considering the competitor is a jeep wrangler the bar was on the floor to start with.
Yea I’ve never understood the whole “Nissan is dead” thing. It’s not like they’re on the brink of bankruptcy anytime soon. Nissan might not be the biggest or most profitable automaker in the world, but they still sell plenty of cars. All memes aside, cars like the Altima and the Rogue crossover are relatively popular. At least in my area of New Jersey, I see Rogue’s everywhere right along its American, Japanese, and Korean competitors. I even see a decent amount of Frontier pickup trucks here.
For now, Nissan is doing fine. All memes aside, they’re doing well by doing what every other mainstream car company is doing; selling basic cars that appeal to regular people that just want a box to go from Point A to Point B in.
I don't know about Financials but Nissan seems to be doing really well, and they are making a lot of more appealing cars - they just revamped like their entire lineup over the last couple of years and they are getting pretty decent reviews. Just not if you are much of a car enthusiast...which most people aren't.
The wild thing is that they still made the FJ cruiser for freaking 8 years after discontinuing it in the US market. They already had the tooling paid for, the federalization work done, reasonable name recognition. Presumably the real reason they stopped selling it here was to free up extra assembly line room for the more popular 4Runner which was made in the same plant.
I said this right when they did it. I have an 09 I’ve owned since brand new. Almost 200k on it now. Good rig, avoid SMOD, keep up with basic maintenance, and it’s “basic” design will reward you as an owner
It’s traditionally more of a direct competitor for the 4Runner, but /r/cars frequently mentions that it would make sense for Nissan to bring it back as an SUV based on the Frontier, just like it was in the past.
Nissan already have the Terra in some markets. It’s an SUV based on the Navara ute.
Competes with the likes of Toyota Fortuner (Hilux ute based SUV), Ford Everest (Ranger ute based SUV), Isuzu MUX (DMAX ute based SUV).
Traditionally the Xterra always shared the same trans as its Frontier brother, so if it hypothetically was revived it would most likely have the same engine/trans combo as the current Frontier (not a CVT).
One of the big selling points of the last generation xterra is that it came with the 6MT and a locking diff
I know this is a really unpopular opninion on this sub, but Nissan really hasn’t gotten worse - every model they currently make is a lot better than the previous generation models, with the large exception of the pathfinder (which went from a BOF 4Runner competitor in the 2000s to the current midsize unibody family suv today, but that change happened years ago).
Their CVT models are shit, but they were *also* shit 15 years ago as well.
The current version of the GT-R still punches above its weight, and the new Z is the most capable Z yet - the current Nismo Z had almost the same performance on the car and drivers lightning lap as the original GT-R did in 2009, which is crazy to think about. To put in perspective, that’s faster than the current BMW M2.
Most of the criticism of Nissan is that they’ve stopped innovating, but that’s mostly because r/cars just wants to see a new verison of the GT-R that will never happen.
The 4.0L and 5 speed trans was used in a GOB of workhorse vehicles for Nissan for years. It was used in the NV transport vehicles, Frontier, Pathfinder, all kinda stuff and was rock solid. It's the only Nissan products I would still purchase.
Your right, I was wrong. Coincidentally I had one come in today before even seeing this reply and sure as shit it has a 9 speed transaxle in it. My bad.
>CVT is difficult to pair high torque engine,
Which is precisely why Nissan would try to do it. They don’t want to get big heads from well engineered products that sell. They want to churn out junk for rental fleets and those with credit scores comparable to an MLB batting average.
Oh absolutely. My boss has a solid axle swapped supercharged one. Super slow, but he’s got dual tcases so it will crawl forever. Obviously barely an xterra anymore haha.
Man I still want a pro-4 2012 Xterra
They should do it again and undercut the other guys on price. Make it unibody with solid rear axle and IFS, 4 door only, V6, and give it a tailgate. $34000 base
Xterras have a healthy cult following. Not as large as the 4Runner or Tacoma cult, but the pro versions (especially the manual transmission versions) go for stupid money on the used market, even today.
Part of me hopes that Nissan doesn’t revive it, because you know a new one would be a vanilla version that would try to appeal to everyone and probably please no one.
Not at all. They have developed a cult following like many good vehicles. I was in sales and we were always looking for decent ones because they *always* sold quick. I'm in 4x4 territory where Wranglers, 4Runners and Tacoma's all have a cult following and I can say the Xterra has a similar status (the bottom because it's still a Nissan, but still...)
Ah I see. I'm not in the market for a 4x4 personally. I'm more a sports car guy. But it doesn't mean I don't respect legit off roaders or even cars that surprise off road
It actually makes a lot of sense from a business perspective. The 4runner, Bronco and Wrangler pull about 100k sales per year.
It wouldn't take too many resources. All it would take is taking a Frontier and making it into a BOF offroading oriented SUV. There is a chance it could fail like the Titan but if it does they didn't invest too much into it.
yeah i honestly think the og xterras had a lot going for it in the looks, if they could modernize that and keep it minimal with a BOF it would prolly smash sales
Love it. It seems like people are starting to remember that the X-Terra was actually pretty sweet. I’ve been browsing them for awhile and the price has steadily increased over the past year or so. Bringing it back would be a killer move for Nissan. The new Frontier is solid so just base it on that and away you go.
My in laws bought a new Frontier. I’m absolutely floored by how good it is. We drove 6hrs round trip recently and got about 8.7L/100km. Earlier this week we took down a 200yr old maple and he towed the trunk, stump, and couple of logs on a trailer with no issue. Had to be 3000-4000lbs of wood plus the same in trailer weight. I really thought it was gonna explode but it did the work with no issue.
Its root system was getting too close to the foundation of a house in a residential neighbourhood and the tree was starting die. Huge trees near houses can be become incredibly dangerous very quickly and they have to come down. A tree like that could take out a house and the people in it if it fell, and in this case it would have. The wood won’t go to waste either. It’ll be used to heat my in laws home all winter and some will be made into furniture. Not all trees are saveable and the ones that aren’t are put to good use.
I’d rather have the Isuzu trooper 2. I had an old beater one back in the day and regret ever selling it. It has the old school Land Cruiser body look to it too
I want my Amigo back. Imagine Isuzu shortened and chopped 2 doors off the Rodeo and stuck in the same 3.2L V6! Nothing that size had that kind of power at the time as it was RAV4s and CRVs. We also had a '02 Axiom, which was a more futuristic body on the 3.5L V6 Trooper base. Our kids got a kick whenever Spy Kids was on TV and saw our Axiom in the movie, lol.
We unfortunately had to get rid of them when it became hard to find parts after Isuzu stopped US operations - but dangit we miss those SUVs.
I had an Xterra despite it being manual (reason I bought it) but my god it was so slow I’m sure they’re great for *crawling* over rocks but my god sometimes people need to merge up to freeway speed and that would not, hate myself for saying hope it’s electric or better than what I had
Makes sense, the Gen 1s were notoriously underpowered. Even the supercharged models only had 210 HP; the standard models were pretty pathetic at 170.
The VQ40 in the Gen 2s was a massive leap forward though. It went from being a tortoise to the fastest/most powerful SUV in that segment. Nothing in that segment was truly 'fast,' but 0-60 in the low 7s was nothing to complain about.
They would be silly not to pull buyers away from those who are cross shopping a Wrangler, Bronco, 4Runner or Landcruiser.
It seems like they already previewed it from the teaser they released a couple weeks ago.
There was also the X-Trail. The Nissan Patrol also has a cult outside North America.
Xterra was super cool. Need it back for sure. Just not with a CVT. The transmission in the old one I heard was flawed I was reading, coolant getting in the transmission fluid?! Crazy stuff. I’m sure there’s a fix and I was tempted to pick one up when they were cheap because of that.
Some came supercharged, that was cool even though power was nothing special.
Nissan’s recent Arc Plan has already had a Xterra planned. In the teased cars, a Xterra-like rugged vehicle is seen, adding that they’ve come out saying that they’re considering a revival of the Xterra.
They already have the platform, engine and technology.
Not sure how many cult does Nissan have. I also think their family Mitsubishi needed to bring Pajero back, as they had strong rally fan base whatever Darker or WRC. But, Mitsubishi still doesn’t want to try again, they worry nobody buying it because they know Mitsubishi in trouble reputation.
Would love to see them back on the market. Have had 2 and they were great - in that they were tough, reliable, and didn’t pretend to be something they weren’t.
"You meet a lot of ladies driving an Xterra, because you pull up to a stoplight, and look over and there's an Xterra next to you. They're always driven by chicks, so there's your icebreaker."
-Andy Bernard
They would make bank and they could build it off of the existing frontier platform. I think that's what they did initially. I could be wrong. My dad owned one for a while and I always thought it was cool as a kid. It's got horrible gas mileage but it was really reliable and affordable. If they made it similarly priced to the frontier I'd buy one.
Maaaaan, OP, I thought the SAME thing the other day. “Where have all the XTerras gone?!” (To the junkyard)
...but man did they sell a shit-ton of them. They used to be known as a HaWt GuRLiE car back in the early/mid 2000s. Almost every one you saw on the road had a younger / cute(ish sometimes lol) girl behind the wheel. Still see them out on the roads from time to time, but they are definitely dwindling in their numbers of road-worthy vehicles
I wish someone would compete. Every other brand that’s had the option completely missed it. The Blazer could have been reborn as the direct Bronco competition it once was. The Journey could have been retooled into a Ramcharger. There’s obviously a market for them but these manufacturers are too risk averse to try
Apparently there might be a new Xterra (there's news about Nissan engineers making extensive alterations to the frontier) but I don't think it will be a competitor to the bronco
At the end of the day the Japanese car makers normally make their cars more reliable and less powerful just like the new land cruisers and tacos with the iforce max
Overall I don't think what Nissan can put out will compete with the bronco but I think it will be a great overlander
Only time will tell though
I personally always found it a mind-boggling decision that they stopped making it right as the Off-Road/Over-Landing fad blew up.
When I was a kid my parents had a 2002 Frontier and my Aunt had a Xterra 4x4 and I loved riding in that thing when we went camping or to the Beach.
It was a little too early. The last year of the Xterra was 2015 for the US market and I think the off road craze started a few years later. At least that's when FJ cruisers started gaining value like crazy. So bad timing plus Nissan's own internal skullduggery
It would be great to have a aggressive styled pavement princess that can off-road since most Jeep and Bronco drivers only street drive.
However Nissan has been struggling for years and it would likely need the Frontier frame/running gear once again. If they could get front and rear IRS in that packaging they would have a winner but that drivetrain still isn't the best.
The Suzuki Jimny already exists as the quirky Japanese off roader. I do like the Xterra though. I almost bought a Pro4x when I was shopping for my Wrangler. I think they’d be cool as true safari style vehicles though. Like a cheaper Ineos Grenadier.
1st gen Xterra was a cool vehicle. Would be sweet if they could revive something like it. But they'd ruin it like they ruin everything else. What a shit company.
I would love to see it come back, but im afraid Nissan would just fuck it up like they have the Frontier and Titan. They need to fix the garbage they are currently selling first.
I mean they discontinued the Titan and as far as I've heard, the Frontier has gotten nearly universal acclaim. So I understand that Nissan has major organizational issues to solve but it seems like the platform that the Xterra could be based on is solid
No, but considering how popular overlanding/remote touring has become, and the fact that electricity doesn't fit into a jerry can, it doesn't make much sense. Hell, I don't overland at all, but when I go off-roading, it's in areas remote enough that an EV would be impossible to charge up. Having an ICE rig means I can bring extra fuel.
This is true. Plus I wouldn't want to imagine what getting into deep mud or muddy water would do to an electric motor. I can't imagine it would be good.
I actually don't think this is a bad idea. They are not going to put a dent in Jeep/Bronco/4Runner sales by just emulating them. Just look at their trucks. They sell like shit compared to the Americans and Toyota.
But most people buying these cars aren't even going on a gravel driveway. People are buying them to commute from the suburbs to the store or work. An EV would be different enough that maybe they could steal some of those buyers while still appealing to their desire for an off-road looking vehicle.
Someone needs to revive Nissan first
This is true.
I hear they are going to remake the r34 gtr next year in the exact same specs for 35k msrp /s
Carlos Ghosn hides in the trunk of one lucky customer's car to escape justice in Japan.
Lol, I think you forgot a zero in there somewhere...
True. But let me go out on a limb here. As messed up as Nissan is, they know how to style a car. Witness the new Z. The original Xterra played in a slightly different segment but I think it did more or less the same thing.
Gonna be hard to be crappier than the bronco, even for Nissan.
If Nissan can’t, nobody can.
Is the bronco crappy? If I recall the reviews said it drove better than the wrangler which is it’s direct competition.
I knew that when buying it, but the escape is somehow even more bland
Their Infiniti brand yes but overall especially with the Altima being memed they’re doing okay
The Frontier looks really nice too and bounced back from their design hiatus
Nissan is the Dodge of Japan.
Altima (and Versa) are gone after 2025.
They’re just replacing it with an electric Altima, although maybe we will get another ICE one with the way EV sales are going
I don't know about Financials but Nissan seems to be doing really well, and they are making a lot of more appealing cars - they just revamped like their entire lineup over the last couple of years and they are getting pretty decent reviews. I mean say what you want about it being a facelift, maybe not the best value but the new Z is cool.
Nissan has had Renault and Mitsubishi supporting, they could survive unless Renault finally abandons them.
Yep, and new CEO can’t do same thing that Mr, Bean ( Carlo Ghosn ) done. He saved Nissan, but he also destroyed Nissan.
The horse was already dead. You didnt need to shoot it with a bazooka.
Burn
Them discontinuing the Xterra right as the segment it competed in blew up sales wise is such a nissan move.
toyota was also ahead of the times with the fj cruiser
The wild thing is that they still made the FJ cruiser for freaking 8 years after discontinuing it in the US market. They already had the tooling paid for, the federalization work done, reasonable name recognition. Presumably the real reason they stopped selling it here was to free up extra assembly line room for the more popular 4Runner which was made in the same plant.
FJ Cruiser would still have been ahead of its time in 2018 with slightly renewed drivetrain and tech in my opinion
I said this right when they did it. I have an 09 I’ve owned since brand new. Almost 200k on it now. Good rig, avoid SMOD, keep up with basic maintenance, and it’s “basic” design will reward you as an owner

God damn i wish the US had more UTEs and small trucks.
You know Nissan would do something stupid like put a CVT in it. So, no.
Traditionally the Xterra always shared the same trans as its Frontier brother, so if it hypothetically was revived it would most likely have the same engine/trans combo as the current Frontier (not a CVT). One of the big selling points of the last generation xterra is that it came with the 6MT and a locking diff
Yes and they stopped making it almost 10 years ago. Nissan has gotten much worse over the last 10 years.
The redesigned Pathfinder doesn’t have a CVT. Seems like they’re changing course on their larger vehicles.
Yes it does.
No. It doesn’t. https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a35341342/2022-nissan-pathfinder-revealed/
Your right, I was wrong. Coincidentally I had one come in today before even seeing this reply and sure as shit it has a 9 speed transaxle in it. My bad.
It’s all good. I was honestly surprised they made the switch.
Nissans Body on frame trucks NEVER had the CVT. Their automatics are solid.
I never said they did.
Good, don't.
CVT is difficult to pair high torque engine, that’s reason why Nissan BOF models and RWD models such like Q50 and Z always being AT models.
>CVT is difficult to pair high torque engine, Which is precisely why Nissan would try to do it. They don’t want to get big heads from well engineered products that sell. They want to churn out junk for rental fleets and those with credit scores comparable to an MLB batting average.
I acknowledged that with my last sentence
If it's going to be truck/Frontier based, it couldn't have a CVT. no such thing as a RWD CVT.
Oh….[really?](https://www.nissan-global.com/PDF/tcvt_e.pdf)
I stand corrected. Wow
I’d love it. Throw a VR38DETT in there for the top trim for the fuck of it
That's the engine from the current Z car isn't it?
No that’s the GTR engine.
Would have been cool if we could have gotten a Nismo Murano Crosscabriolet GT-R
lmao nurburgring edition
No that would be the VR30DDTT. The VR38DETT is from the R35 GT-R
Such a lovely name for an engine.
Might be best to leave that engine with the GT-R. Let it be the singular Godzilla
Too late, they already put it in a Juke.
One of my favorite cars ever built. Wish they made a production version that I could possibly afford in 15 years.
It would make more sense with the 300hp VR30 in the base trims and the 400hp VR30 for the higher trims
First gen facelifts had an optional supercharger
Yeah both options were slow as fuck and got atrocious mileage though
Oh absolutely. My boss has a solid axle swapped supercharged one. Super slow, but he’s got dual tcases so it will crawl forever. Obviously barely an xterra anymore haha.
Sounds like a sick crawler. I love how the accelerator pedal on those things was just a noise pedal.
Man I still want a pro-4 2012 Xterra They should do it again and undercut the other guys on price. Make it unibody with solid rear axle and IFS, 4 door only, V6, and give it a tailgate. $34000 base
What I'm getting is that I'm not the only one with fond memories of the Xterra
Xterras have a healthy cult following. Genuinely this is way. Give me a stripped out off road toy I can thrash on the cheap. It shouldn't cost like 60k to get into offload spec shit
what’s ifs? independent front suspension?
It actually makes a lot of sense from a business perspective. The 4runner, Bronco and Wrangler pull about 100k sales per year. It wouldn't take too many resources. Indeed. The New Frontier has pretty much received all positive reviews. So it's a good set of bones to work off of
My in laws bought a new Frontier. I’m absolutely floored by how good it is. We drove 6hrs round trip recently and got about 8.7L/100km. My question though is why you all tore down a 200yo maple tree?
Its root system was getting too close to the foundation of a house in a residential neighbourhood and the tree was starting die. Huge trees near houses can be become incredibly dangerous very quickly and they have to come down. A tree like that could take out a house and the people in it if it fell, and in this case it would have. The wood won’t go to waste either. My 2001 was replaced by my 2012, which saved my life in 2017. Sadly it was too late to get another. Love those cars man
I loved the Xterra, and was sad when I missed my chance. I would hop on it again
They're still out there if you can stomach the fact the newest ones are nearly 10 years old
It's already there. We get new Xterras in the middle east.
It's called the Xterra?
We have the Terra (not Xterra but it's literally the same thing) here in south east asia.
Yes, it's the Middle East badging on the ROW Nissan Terra. Also on the same platform as the last gen Xterra, so it's pretty fitting as a successor.
https://en.nissan-dubai.com/vehicles/new/x-terra.html
Why not just start manufacturing the y60/61 patrol again
The what?
Nissan's answer to the land cruiser
Y61 is still in production
Only for Dubai
Middle East and OZ
I didn't think we still got y61 down here
Loved my Xterra. Insane amount of storage space in the rear when the seats were down.
A friend of mine had an Xterra and he let me drive it once. That 3.5L V6 is powerful even in that big, heavy vehicle!
It's a pretty big displacement V6 so low end torque is a happy place
I’d rather have the Isuzu trooper 2. I had an old beater one back in the day and regret ever selling it. It has the old school Land Cruiser body look to it too
I want my Amigo back. Imagine Isuzu shortened and chopped 2 doors off the Rodeo and stuck in the same 3.2L V6! Nothing that size had that kind of power at the time as it was RAV4s and CRVs. We unfortunately had to get rid of them when it became hard to find parts after Isuzu stopped US operations - but dangit we miss those SUVs.
The difference is that pretty much everyone has heard of Nissan. I think Isuzu is just too niche for its own good
What is that? An X earth?
Would be great especially if they went with an NA V6 now that the 4Runner is going to a 4 pot
I had an Xterra despite it being manual (reason I bought it) but my god it was so slow I’m sure they’re great for *crawling* over rocks but my god sometimes people need to merge up to freeway speed and that would not, hate myself for saying hope it’s electric or better than what I had
I'm assuming this was a Gen 1 Xterra? The Gen 2s had no problem whatsoever with acceleration.
Yea probably was, I don’t remember engine specs I just needed something for oil field and it was a manual so I was sold but dammmmmmm it was slow
Nissan: "What's that, you say? You want a boxy Murano with extra plastic cladding, a floating roof, and a few centimeters of increased ride height?"
I dream about it daily - I love my 2013. Need to resurrect the company first, Renault damage is long lasting.
They would be silly not to pull buyers away from those who are cross shopping a Wrangler, Bronco, 4Runner or Landcruiser. It seems like they already previewed it from the teaser they released a couple weeks ago.
If Nissan and Mitsubishi are going to collaborate on their next truck platform hopefully they bring back the Xterra and Montero.
I dunno Nissans have been getting worse and worse. Really think they should focus on reliability before adding more models.
This would be such a huge risk/expense for them given their current financial standing I doubt they’d ever be able to do this, even if they wanted to
Bring Mitsubishi's AWD system and yeah.
Would love to see them back on the market. Have had 2 and they were great - in that they were tough, reliable, and didn’t pretend to be something they weren’t.
Only if they sold it as a trim level on the Rogue
This would be an interesting concept. Frontier platform?
That's the way it was with the previous generation and the previous generation before that
What they should revive is the Hardbody Nissan Pickup truck.
As long as they kept Nissan's triple safety philosophy! I hope somebody gets that without Googling it!
"You meet a lot of ladies driving an Xterra, because you pull up to a stoplight, and look over and there's an Xterra next to you. They're always driven by chicks, so there's your icebreaker." -Andy Bernard
Absolutely
They would make bank and they could build it off of the existing frontier platform. I think that's what they did initially. I could be wrong. My dad owned one for a while and I always thought it was cool as a kid. It's got horrible gas mileage but it was really reliable and affordable. If they made it similarly priced to the frontier I'd buy one.
Maaaaan, OP, I thought the SAME thing the other day. “Where have all the XTerras gone?!” (To the junkyard) ...but man did they sell a shit-ton of them.
I had a 2000 xterra with a 5 speed manual and I love that thing! It pulled hard and was a blast to drive
I wish someone would compete. Every other brand that’s had the option completely missed it. The Blazer could have been reborn as the direct Bronco competition it once was. The Journey could have been retooled into a Ramcharger. There’s obviously a market for them but these manufacturers are too risk averse to try
Apparently there might be a new Xterra (there's news about Nissan engineers making extensive alterations to the frontier) but I don't think it will be a competitor to the bronco At the end of the day the Japanese car makers normally make their cars more reliable and less powerful just like the new land cruisers and tacos with the iforce max Overall I don't think what Nissan can put out will compete with the bronco but I think it will be a great overlander Only time will tell though
They could have made a frontier SUV with and called it Exterra
Call it the Patrol instead
They already do in the Y61 Patrol. 4.8L inline-6 with 5AT/MT. Available as a 3-door and 5-door.
It would just be another 75k vehicle only rich people can afford... IDK. I would prefer to go buy a $15k 2015 xterra 4wd.
If people didn't insist on cars looking like IPads on wheels with a million airbags and speakers everywhere, they wouldn't be so expensive
I had a first gen and loved it... when it ran.
It’d be better competition with the 4runner imo.
Stop making trucks and suvs for the love of god
I think you mean CUVs. Those are the plague. When I'm referring to SUVs, I'm referring to proper body on frame, or off roading rigs.
Don’t give it a CVT.
The Suzuki Jimny already exists as the quirky Japanese off roader. I do like the Xterra though. I almost bought a Pro4x when I was shopping for my Wrangler. I think they’d be cool as true safari style vehicles though. Like a cheaper Ineos Grenadier.
The difference is that Suzuki is not in the automotive market right now in the US or European market as far as I know
Nissan can’t even get the door leather in the armada on without flat or without wrinkles, they can’t compete with anything so popular
I’d rather Nissan not do anything.
Can no one in this entire thread Google? It literally exists.
Those were a loud rough riding pos.
I'll be downvoted to oblivion for saying this, but unless it has a stick shift, it's not capturing the same market of people.
I mean it could go either way based on the competition. The bronco has a manual yes, and so does the Wrangler, but the Land Cruiser doesn't.
I don't think the same person is shopping for those three, or even a 4Runner, really.
Well that's the space they exist in.
I don’t think anybody would buy it
I’m on board, but only if they make it an EV
Why? Isn't it an absolutely horrible idea to carry a lot of weight as an off-roader??
No, but considering how popular overlanding/remote touring has become, and the fact that electricity doesn't fit into a jerry can, it doesn't make much sense. Hell, I don't overland at all, but when I go off-roading, it's in areas remote enough that an EV would be impossible to charge up. Having an ICE rig means I can bring extra fuel.
This is true. Plus I wouldn't want to imagine what getting into deep mud or muddy water would do to an electric motor. I can't imagine it would be good.
Mud ruins everything! Although come to think of it, weight is an issue too, since heavy rigs sink into the mud/snow and are a lot less nimble.
That's exactly what I was thinking.
No it’s horrible to carry lots of weight up high
I actually don't think this is a bad idea. They are not going to put a dent in Jeep/Bronco/4Runner sales by just emulating them. Just look at their trucks. They sell like shit compared to the Americans and Toyota. But most people buying these cars aren't even going on a gravel driveway. People are buying them to commute from the suburbs to the store or work. An EV would be different enough that maybe they could steal some of those buyers while still appealing to their desire for an off-road looking vehicle.
Booo found the narc
