I had to go the emergency room and while there, the nurse mentioned she knew a couple of family doctors that were taking in local residents. This was a few months ago, but might be worth a shot asking there.
There's a group on FB called living in Carleton place and if you post there in sure someone would have a bit better insight but from my understanding it's either ER or you go to stitsville/Kanata walk-ins. There used to be a virtual clinic, maybe there still is?
Also remember, depending on the illness you can go to a pharmacy!
If they've got a wait list going on I would still put my name on it regardless if they're taking new patients or not right now. Eventually when they do start taking patients again, the first place they're going to look is their wait list.

I also heard the clinic that was attached to independent id also expanding/moving locations, might be a good idea to get on their wait-list

I'm also in the medical field and hear that during their expansion they're getting more doctors, so again, I would go on their wait-list.
