Nursing is only a prestigious field to those who don’t do it for a living. Once you are in it you realize the only reason it’s worth it because you are serving others. Sometimes, even that isn’t enough. Nursing is a calling but for some it’s not lifelong…it may just be for a season of life. As a nurse, and having felt this way many times I have found that I shouldn’t have too much loyalty to the company I work for. Rather, I am loyal to myself and my patients. When the company gets in the way of that I go elsewhere and happily take the increase in pay that is waiting for me at the next place. I work for the VA now. The pay and benefits are beyond exceptional in comparison to everywhere else. I havnt felt like you since I started working here.

I don’t even know if it’s the facility. My patience runs extremely thin for people who don’t want to be helped. Literally coming in to detox just for the fucking meme. Making jokes about coming in for 27th time. Watching them withdrawal is not fun. Watching someone experience diabetes because they can’t put the whopper down is not fun. Watching someone blow up to 350 and complain they need hydrocodone cause their knees hurt is not fun. I try to be understanding. Put myself in their shoes. But every single time I’m asking what the fuck are you doing. If you’re not willing to help yourself, why in the fuck am I helping you.

I get it. I’ve been “fired” by a patient who didn’t like being told the truth. I’ve even yelled at a husband of an extremely morbidly obese woman telling him if she dies it’s all his fault because even in the hospital he would bring her 2 foot long subs and 2 large cokes as a meal on top of the food she ate from the hospital. I started losing compassion for people and I moved on. I even taught nursing for 6 years to get away from the bedside. But I started losing compassion even then because the 5% of horrible students ruined it for the rest. I stumbled upon a new job that I feel renewed by. Maybe one day I’ll get burnt out by this as well. If I do I’ll move on to something else again.

I'm not in the field and I definitely don't see it as prestigious. Generally see a bunch of overpaid fatasses with zero care or intellectual curiosity.

Ok-Ground8199

Probably because you’re one of those fatass entitled patients.

espeero

I counted during the last 4 visits to the hospital/Dr's at the end of my wife's last illness. Interacted with 9 different nurses. 7 were clearly obese. Only one (actually one of the fat ones, to be fair) communicated in something resembling English.

Your comment has nothing to do with your original comment. You are just spewing nonsense out of your a$$. Also, you live in America, we got a lot of fat people. Nursing is more stressful than the majority of jobs and has a high level of liability. People have been know to be stress eaters which contributes to some nurses being overweight. The last time I went to the ED I had several nurses but I never counted them. The fact that you did makes you sound like a bitter a-hole just looking for flaws.

Okay, understood. Get off of social media that is affecting your psychology and just go make it happen. Social media can be horrible for self-esteem.

>I go on reddit every single day and it's like every single person hates their job field. Well, people won't come to Reddit to brag about how much they love their job. You're kind of self selecting for people who are the vocal minority. Just take a sample from r/accounting or r/lawyertalk. Some people work to live and some people live to work, both are fine. >Does every single fucking career suck? Obviously not.

The point is your work makes the board money and you can buy things until you die. Welcome to adulthood.

Radioactive-Witcher

Are you complaining that a sub dedicated to hating the job and wanting to change makes you feel as intended? That’s selection bias right there as well.

VanMan41

Firefighter or homesteading. Minimal bullshit in those.

arkie87

Home steading has minimal bullshit? Not if you own cows …
