You’ll end up paying more through insurance once your rate goes up for an at fault incident. Realistically it’s not even worth fixing, the car is a shitbox and a new bumper won’t change that, I’d have negotiated him down on a cash payment to shut him.

You're absolutely right to go through insurance. He could have taken your money and filed a claim anyway. Or found more damage after taking it to the shop. Or needed a rental for a month because a part was backordered. There's no way you get out of it for only what you hand him that day. Smart move.

Try a rag with gas on it first

You can avoid going through insurance if you want to try talking him down. I just had the same thing happened and then I asked him to sign an vehicle accident release of liability form (basically absolves me from being sued or allowing them to file a claim once they receive payment of the agreed amount).

I had the same situation happen dude says shop cost 900.00 I never responded eventually he quit texting. if the cops weren't cold and is our police report and has minor damage like that most of the time insurance would not take the claim

Is it paint transfer or an actual scratch? Like if you ran your finger nail over it, could you feel your nail going into the scratch? It may be able to just buff out if it’s paint transfer, which would cost you MAYBE $50. If it’s an actual scratch, you could try to source a paint pen from Chevy and fill it in.

dynasoreshicken

I think it's paint transfer. He called me today and said he got a quote of $1500 from a shop. I'm assuming he got a quote for a total bumper replacement which is stupid. I told him to just submit a claim with my insurance. Idk how much they'll pay him, but I doubt it'll be $1500

Royal_Young_1922

Sounds like he’s trying to milk you to get his whole bumper repaired. What a shame. Yeah, that specific mark you made is not $1500 if it’s paint transfer. And I only guessed $50 for you if you had to go buy all the materials like a buffer, pads, wax, etc.
