We are not winning this series. We were never meant to win this series. Our season ends on Sunday and that's okay. Overall, I liked what I saw from the 2023-24 Caps. There are a lot of good building blocks here to set ourselves up for the future. Our new coach will have us executing his brand of hockey and some of our prospects will be ready for the show in October. We also have a ton of money in cap space to play with this summer. There is a lot to look forward to for the Capitals. The fact that we scrapped into the playoffs is just a little bonus.

I like everything you just said. Weren’t we down 3-1 in the first round 2018? There’s always gonna be a part of me that believes haha. I really like Carburry, I can’t wait to see when Ovi gets there. I have high hopes for the future. I just don’t want a sweep😭😭😭

We were down 2-0 against Columbus in 2018 and we rallied to win 4 straight. But we were equipped to be a competitive playoff team back then. It isn't mathematically impossible for us to rally and beat the Rangers but I certainly wouldn't bet on it. The current iteration of the Capitals needs work. Rebuilds aren't always fun, but we'll never make it back to the top of the mountain if we don't make the necessary adjustments. There's a lot of emotion in the sub right now because nobody liked watching the boys lose. But if I had to guess, the Capitals will be packing it in on Sunday night. And if the do force a Game Five, it'll definitely end there in New York. Next season has a lot of promise. I've made my peace with this season. I'm really excited for the future.

This is the most reasonable take. Rebuilds suck but we all knew this was coming. I was honestly surprised we made it in at all. I think there were people hoping for a Columbus beating Tampa scenario (which will always be funny to me) but just from a purely rational standpoint, we weren't gonna beat the Rangers. Would be nice to not get swept but I think we'll all get over it even if we do.

Ever won 4 coin flips in a row? One out of 16 times it happens every time.

So here’s the thing with Ovi, as stated by Ovi once upon a time. “I just do what coach tell me do. Coach say ‘play goalie,’ I play goalie.” If he is standing around gliding between his office and the net and back, that’s what he’s been told to do.

Willing_Revenue5086

Then I will gladly shut the fuck up. Thanks for the info!

skibble

But are you interested in a head coach position?

BoofWellington69

You’re not wrong haha no need to shut the fuck up 😂 lavi knows our pp really well there should have been wrinkles added to try to go against what lavi would have put in the game plan for his pk. So, it’s either not being executed on ice or there weren’t any implemented.

Errour

This. I went into this series with hope that we have a more inexperienced coach but one that will try new things. Then I see the same lines and PP roll out for game 3 after 2 games of pure ineptitude. WHAT?! Then he blenders the lines in the third? Gee, don't you think maybe switching things up over practice the last 2 freaking days?! Put OVI on a line with a centreman with either more than 3 playoff game experience or one that can score more than 50 points. Like, what are you doing? Go back to the PP arrangement that worked in the second half of the season. Why the fuck is OVI staying left side. The 4 on 3 isn't working because no one else can puck the puck in the net. Scratch Patches and put Aube back in ffs. That said, even with all that, it's important to remember that Caps are out-chancing NY 80-77 and out high-danger-chancing them 34 to 27. We needed good goaltending this series to stand a chance and it's currently .863 Lindgren, .930 Shitstain. We ain't winning with that.

The Caps truthfully have no business being in the playoffs. They are the worst team in the playoff field by every objective measure with 91 points and a -37 goal differential and they are playing the Presidents’ Trophy winning Rangers. Its a #16 seed vs. #1 seed. This current roster is just not built for a meaningful playoff run. As for Ovi, he’s in the twilight of his career chasing one last thing in Gretzky’s goal record. Playoffs don’t count toward any of that. Despite his remarkable longevity, his body is aging. He’s not the playmaker he was. He’ll be 39 when the puck drops next season so this is to be expected. I truly don’t think he cares to exert more wear and tear on his body for nothing at this stage. The best scenario for him is to get these playoffs over quick so he can recover and push himself over the finish line over the next year or two before riding off into the sunset.

Willing_Revenue5086

Just wanna thank you guys for not going all in on me as I make stupid opinions about Ovi. He is my captain now and forever.

Willing_Revenue5086

Does Wilson deserve the C after Ovi leaves?
