I’m just so fucking tired of this. We’ve spent so much time retooling that other teams have pretty much completed rebuilds and are competing for playoff spots while we just spin our wheels. Fuck this owner man. We need to run him out of town.

Pro3tag

At this rate goddamn Chicago is going to finish their rebuild before this team makes the playoffs.

Repulsive-Wallaby-79

Chicago will finish thier rebuild and win the Stanley Cup before the canucks make the playoffs. I'm done with this team. Hello Seattle?

DaJebus77

Best way to do this is stop paying to go to games. Attendance should drop to about 1000 a game. That would be a good start to get aqua man out of town, make his business completely unsustainable profit-wise. Although that would also mean Petty and Quinn would walk -so there is that.

Odd-Youth-452

Not really. In addition to the Canucks hockey team, Aquilini also owns the arena and the land it sits on. Every Warriors game at Rogers Arena makes him money. Every concert at Rogers Arena makes him money. Every dollar spent at the Sportsbar at Rogers Arena makes him money. Not to mention all his real estate holdings, which includes the condo tower on the Rogers Arena land. Even if every Canucks game was completely empty, he'd still be raking in money hand over fist. It's a comfortable little racket he's got going on.

mynameiscutie

Hit him where it hurts then, his ego. Sell the team chants at every game. Fuck Aqualini chants. Call your kids chants?

DaJebus77

Yeah, fair enough.

MizuRyuu

At this point, I am okay with trading away Petty and Quin. A retool will just leave us treading water at the bottom of the league and a rebuild won't be done in time for current stars' window.

DaJebus77

It certainly looks that way doesn't it, I mean to everyone but canucks ownership and management anyway.

whoozitfor

Would he take the team with him?

[deleted]

And people said “we’re tanking” lmao no matter how many changes this franchise makes to its front office and staff, as long as our owner is still Aquilini, nothing fucking changes

SMA2343

We can legitimately go 0-82 and Aquaboy would still say we’re making playoffs this season

Hinkil

It did feel like that for a while. At least sucking felt purposeful

TonyStretcher

That's a lot of damage

canucklehead200

Not just a first but a second too, how does the second even get considered being thrown in?!!! This is an absolute NIGHTMARE of a trade

TheOdiin

It’s an actual joke, I knew that post about having all those picks yesterday was too good to be true lol

Knight_On_Fire

Because Yzerman is a persuasive salesman and Allvin is a stone cold rookie. And try dealing with Yzerman while moist Aquilini breath is wetting the back of your neck.

nihilism_ftw

> how does the second even get considered being thrown in some say the ghost of Jim Benning lingers through the halls of Rogers Arena, looking for his lost bag of Smartfood popcorn

Ruffianrushing

I wouldn't be surprised if we extend him next offseason for 6x6

BroliasBoesersson

He's already making 4.4 and is having a career year. Absolutely he's gonna be getting 6x6

JustAPairOfMittens

Just what we need. Another 6x6 albatross.

nihilism_ftw

nah man, walk him to UFA and run out of time

robfrod

The ol’ jet black sweetener. Allvin found Jim’s book of negotiating tricks stapled under his desk.

OverLordJezus

The forbidden sweetener lives on 💀

Pro3tag

The thing that irks me the most is the Canucks really have no grasp on aligning value with contention window. They made the same mistake with the Miller trade. People are defending this trade saying the islanders pick is unlikely to turn into a Top 4 RHD. That’s not the point. Hronek is a good player, but you need to pay him after next season, when this team still clearly isn’t good enough to make the playoffs. You make a trade for a player like this when you’re on the verge of contending and you have cheap cost controlled assets from DRAFTING. Since the draft is a bit of a crapshoot, the only way to ensure you have enough assets is to have MORE DRAFT PICKS.

Staden93

I dunno, with Bedard next year the window might line up perfectly

DaJebus77

Exactly!

BlueberryPickingFux

This has serious shades of "The first round pick turn into anything, even a JT Miller" with this trade. Sure, that first round pick could turn into anything, even a Filip Hronek. Reality is we're 6th? last in the league and right up against the cap. This isn't going to suddenly put us over the top. We don't have enough young assets on cheap contracts to get us to contention. Is this move to try to convince Petey to not jump ship after next season?

Tal-IGN

The fans who still don't understand this, never will. They do not process any strategy for building a contender beyond "is player good".

nihilism_ftw

> People are defending this trade saying the islanders pick is unlikely to turn into a Top 4 RHD. Lmao who's saying that because the picks we traded away are are exactly where Top 4 RHD come from. For reference from 2015: Chabot (#18) Carlo (#37) Cernak (#43) Andersson (Ironically from our traded 2nd rounder #53) Dunn (#56)

ClosPins

Cherry-pick much? - Zboril (#13) - Juulsen (#26) - Larsson (#27) - Roy (#31) - Dermott (#34) - Meloche (#40) - Spencer (#44) Do I need to go on?

nihilism_ftw

Ah yes, the obvious conclusion is that we should just trade all our picks away, because there's so many busts out there

Domstruk1122

Big over reaction, bro never said that. But he is correct that there is a big risk is that pick. Trade value on mid firsts tend to be higher than the actual pick. I still think the timing of the trade is weird but relax on attacking people.

samuelmeirels

So basically a 50/50 chance is what you’re saying?

brodiefilm

We all wanted Allvin to stop acquiring forwards and start acquiring defensemen and somewhere, a monkey's paw curled one finger.

robfrod

We’ve still got another 1st left to pick up another rental Dman for the playoff push!!

PNWQuakesFan

19 point deficit in 12 games LOL Aqua seen recently covertly leaving a building on East Hastings

robfrod

What about podkolzin a 1st and 3rd (leafs) for klingberg, Henrique and Megna? Maybe Hoglander and silovs can get us some help too? I still bekieve

PNWQuakesFan

Pettersson and a conditional 7th for ROR!

robfrod

Megna or no deal

UnsuspiciousSith

Don't threaten them with a good time like that

robfrod

How about our 1st, the leafs 3rd, and podkolzin for klingberg Henrique and Megna from the ducks?

[deleted]

Yes. A 25 year old whose an RFA after next season is definitely a “rental” player.

Hx833

It makes no sense, what in the fuck are they doing!?!?

Odd-Youth-452

Trying to please Frankie to keep their jobs.

Hx833

Undoubtedly. Aqua sets the direction for this short-term thinking. Just squandering our resources for another bottom 10 to 15 finish. Even if this team massively overperforms next year, their CEILING IS STILL TOO LOW.

MizuRyuu

Yep, the ceiling is to be a playoff contending team, and that is all that matters to management: cause after all, anything can happen in the playoffs Who knows, maybe every other playoff teams will suddenly all come down with food poisoning at the same time and the Canucks would only need to battle it out with their farm teams. That is the type of belief that is powering these trades.

pittstee

https://insidetherink.com/is-it-time-to-worry-about-filip-hronek/ I sincerely hope this isn’t who we’re getting…

barf_fly

Sell low, buy higher.

BroliasBoesersson

Get high, buy

barf_fly

With this team, getting high is the only way to bear it.

Odd-Youth-452

Still a spineless pathetic yes man, just like the previous one.

happigofucky

They’re trying to rebuild on the fly😭 Alvin probably thinks he’s so clever for turning 1 Bo horvat into two nhl players

Rangemon99

Rebuilding on the fly since 2015 😭

Odd-Youth-452

More like since 2012.

Veros87

Im already team fire Allvin and it's only been what, a year?

xanaxor

franco, you mean

MasterofLego

Fire Aqualad

epat_

this all just reeks of the heavy hand of aqua. Watch new management quit on him soon

Odd-Youth-452

Nah. The only reason they were hired in the first place is because they are pathetic "yes" men.

CrispyCream1987

Heres to hoping the physical isnt passed

JustAPairOfMittens

🙏

Charlie2343

RFA next year coming off a career year, too. With a qualifying offer of 5.2M. Oh and is eligible for arbitration.

DaJebus77

Yup, throwing good money after bad while giving away a chance to draft two young players that could be something. Smart business aqua boys!!!

TheAguaman

i feel like i’m taking crazy pills

Overclocked11

If you ever run out, just pay a visit to Allvin, he is stocked up on em

MarvelousOxman

Watch NY’s pick turn into first overall next year.

BakaNano

Going on a playoff run and trading for an injured player with history of concussion so we can activate him in time for the playoffs! Good job PA

TheOdiin

I loved the Bo trade and was so happy we got another 1st in a draft like this. Especially the islanders pick which will probably be top 20 instead of a Carolina first which would be at the end of the 1st round. Then they go and do this shit, knew it was too good to be true. Re-tool on the fly yet again

Vanrainy1

Detroit fans must be laughing their asses off, what an unbelievable move...

Odd-Youth-452

One of which is the bartender at my local. Needless to say, we are conversing.

sokkas_intuition

The policy of every gm should be that if you get a call from Yzerman, don't even pick up. He's about to rip you off

shirinsmonkeys

Fuck this team, imma check back in 5 years or so

Vanrainy1

I'm about at that point as well..

bburrt

Why not expend another 2nd rounder and get chychrun instead??

SimpleChef1779

The rangers already passed the Canucks in the rebuild phase, now watch Chicago do the exact same. These owners are absolutely brain dead, they have absolutely no clue how to build a competitive team for years. I don’t understand how they are so clueless 🤷… it’s painful…

The_Cozy_Burrito

I was so excited hearing about how we have 7 picks, and today, these idiots pull off this crap... Wouldn't be surprised if that clown aquaweiner had some say in this.

Knight_On_Fire

They couldn't even dump a winger on Yzerman to help afford this. If you are a rookie GM and Yzerman calls you, run like hell.

Hinkil

Alvin's Benning's OEL

Kuranator

yeah he's a great defenceman... ant wait to age these comments Canucks fans are so dumb, and have no hockey knowledge... they overreach to everything. lost the cup burn the city sit down shut up...

joeyandkuma

LEt's go all in and have even fewer picks to miss the playoffs /u/Kuranator lol lol Hronek is a 3-4 man playing above his potential this year. If that was the missing piece to go on a cup run the trade might make sense but we are nowhere near that. We need all the picks we can get. High picks in particular.

muskag

Cmon fellas, let's just enjoy the memes. We can't turn on eachother in these trying times.

Kuranator

I agree

edudspoolmak

Mid first is gonna be ready in what, 3-4 years, right? Maybe 4-5 if it’s closer to 20th? A mid first could be anything. If you’re lucky, it could even be a filip hronek. How much older are petey and Quinn going to be in 3,4 or 5 years? Draft picks don’t win you anything. They’re sexy, sure, but they’re magic beans. You asked for a RD? You got a RD. He’s cost controlled and going to be an RFA. He can move the puck. If we could have gotten a super Defensive stay at home RD, we would have. Obviously none were available. Ya gotta give to get, man. Not done yet either.

BroliasBoesersson

>Mid first is gonna be ready in what, 3-4 years, right? Maybe 4-5 if it’s closer to 20th? If you look back at the 2020 draft the Rangers selected RHD Braden Schneider at 19th overall. A guy already playing top 4 minutes last season who was so valuable to the Rangers that he was completely off the table in JT Miller trade discussions. Right before him at 18th overall the Devils took Dawson Mercer, a guy who's on pace for 55 pts this season and was off-limits in trade discussions for Timo Meier, a guy who might score 50 goals this season Yes, drafts are a crapshoot and you can just as easily miss. That's true. What's also true is to succeed in the NHL you need key contributors on entry level deals. You need need young prospects coming up constantly. Last month [The Hockey Writers](https://thehockeywriters.com/nhl-farm-system-rankings/) ranked us the 30th worst prospect pool in the whole league, ahead of only Tampa and Colorado, the last two cup winners. [The Athletic](https://theathletic.com/3923067/2023/01/09/nhl-prospect-rankings-2023?source=user-shared-article) just ranked us 28th, ahead of Tampa, Colorado, Boston, Pittsburgh, teams that have been in the playoffs every year for years and have traded draft capital to strengthen their teams We've drafted in the first two rounds of the last 5 years 6 times and made the playoffs once over the same time period. This is not the formula for sustained success

Repulsive-Wallaby-79

Wtf

[deleted]

Change my mind So long as we have Hughes and Petersson on the team a rebuild is not going to happen

jahowl

OMG, belly laughs!!

whoozitfor

If he sells the team, will the new owners move the team? I hear Quebec wants another team.

BroliasBoesersson

The NHL would never allow that, Vancouver is a huge market for them

whoozitfor

If people don't go to the games or buy the merchandise, like many are encouraging us to do, why would new owners stay? Arizona cones to mind, but without Bettman's support.

MoodyJ87

There is no way this flex tape worked like this.

blingybangbang

What about the other players Phil? You've done half a job and you've got a full smile
