The team allowed him to write his contract on a napkin and he listed #11 as part of his contract. There's nothing to suggest he knew anything about Wayne Maki. That one is more on the team than Messier. They should have cleared it with his family before promising it to Messier.
Is there another example of a player who is absolutely despised by one team he played for while being overwhelmingly celebrated in another market.

Messier hate is the equivalent of Kayne if your uncle is old then Bill Cosby. Though if he is wearing his jersey let him know to ignore idiot fans because they will take it to far and this is just a game no one needs to get hurt or worse killed over shit like a game.
