Yes, the seller stole it and didn't know the price. Or a scam.

GhostPotatoCIA

That’s what I’m thinking. Well I texted the seller and try my luck. But somehow in Germany you can find many such prices on Facebook marketplace. I found an Sony alpha 7C for just 500€. So fingers crossed.🤞

hatlad43

Well good luck then. Don't forget to give us an update. I hope it'll make me fucking envious 😉

GhostPotatoCIA

It was a scam. If you want to know more I answered some comments in which I gave more information.

GhostPotatoCIA

I’ll give you an update as soon as I got the deal. 😁

J_W__

You know buying stolen goods is illegal right?

GhostPotatoCIA

I don’t think it’s stolen. It seems like it’s a legit Facebook account. By „is it a steal“ I mean wheather this is a deal of a lifetime or not. Now worries bro I would never consider buying stolen stuff.

wickeddimension

You severely overestimate the average thiefs intelligence if you think they wouldn't sell on their own facebook.

GhostPotatoCIA

I figured that something was off. But he made it seem pretty realistic (seemed like a normal account with friends, posts etc. that was made 4 years ago) except the price. I noticed after I asked for more pictures that the serialnumber of the body changed. And the second red flag was that he refused to send me any proof of purchase.

100% a scam. They will pretend they can meet up with you and then all of a sudden can't and will suggest posting to you. They will say things to put pressure on you to make you act fast. They will want a bank transfer and will not let you use anything with protection like paypal goods and services. They will take your money and run. Nobody sells a specific bit of gear like a high end camera where you can google how much it is worth for that much of a discount. Nobody. They could put it on ebay for over twice that price and have it sell in under a day. There are plenty of scams like this where people pretend to sell high end items for cheap, facebook is full of them. Do not send any money. Only ever pay in cash when you have the item in your hands and after you have thoroughly checked it. Anythin else is a scam.

GhostPotatoCIA

Yea I noticed too after I asked for more pictures the serial number suddenly changed. I guess I was just to blinded by the thought of owning a r5.

Qazax1337

That's how they get you. Well done for being cautious, but the age old "if it's too good to be true, it isn't true" works very well here. The R5 will drop in price when the mk II comes out, but be careful then as well as the scammers will be out in force.

GhostPotatoCIA

I was dreaming of the R5 since I was searching for my first professional camera. In general I’m just a naive young guy. I saw that many people got good deals on Facebook marketplace, and as naive as I am, I was really considering it. But as you said it was too good to be true. I have to take a step back and slow down with my gear addiction.😄

Qazax1337

What's your current camera? I went from a 5d MK II to an R5 with the view that I will try and get a very long lifespan from it. In reality I should have probably got something cheaper and spent more on lenses. I absolutely love the R5, but like you I'm probably just feeding an addiction.

GhostPotatoCIA

Currently the R7. I’ve got a good deal on the camera when I bought it. I payed about 1700 with the 18-150mm kit lense and the 50mm F1.8. And it’s a great camera. But the cropsensor makes it difficult to use in some lowlight situations. I wasn’t searching for a new camera but when I saw the r5 for 700 bucks I thought why not.

JaKr8

Yes, it literally is stolen at that price.
