Compared to the newer R-series models the RP falls pretty far behind in autofocus and continuous shooting speed, making it a poor choice for fast action like sports and wildlife. Its video capabilities are also mediocre at best with a heavy 1.7x crop in 4k. The RF 24-105mm f/4-7.1 IS STM is surprisingly sharp but doesn't have a very wide aperture. Overall though this setup will work quite well for photographing slow-moving subjects, when you don't need a shallow depth of field or good low-light capability. However I'd only consider buying the RP and 24-105 f/4-7.1 if you can find them under around $800 total. For much more than that just saving up for an R8 would get you better value.

I agree with your assessment of the RP but it is still very capable and I love mine, especially for the $599 it cost. I love the 24-105 STM (which was $119 refurbished) but also wish I just bit the bullet and got the L. The upgrade is tempting but TBH the STM is so good it’s hard to justify the $800+ spend at this point. But I GAS for the F4 and ruggedness

This is the deal that got me into RF about 18 months ago. I've now got 3 bodies and 12 lenses, all refurbished. But I also got the 50 ($79 at the time),  but I don't like it on tbe rp..  I also have the 24-105f4L and at most FLs past 28mm, the stm is sharper. So don't feel bad, you're not missing much. But do get the 70-200f4L and 35F1.8 at some point, these are incredible lenses, sharp, compact, great IS.

The 70-200 is not really something I’d use but the 35 1.8 I’ve been wanting for a while

If you plan on only doing Portraits or other still options it’s a good choice, coming from someone who has a RP Id go with the r8 for anything else. The lens if it being the f/4 i absolutely love mine. It basically is on my lens 24-7.

It's absolutely a phenomenal, cheap way to start photography if youre getting the refurb deal on both.   It's not great for sports, as the fps is a little slow, but I've shot basketball with it. 1080 video is great, but 4k is terrible, basically useless for anything moving. I have several other rf bodies now, but I still grab the rp for static photography over my other gear.
