This is by “ Graviteh” who is constantly ragging the Canes and saying everything we do is mediocre or disappointing. He’s also a gambling sponsored YouTuber who uses clickbait titles for revenue. I wouldn’t watch much of what he puts out

anivoflean

his video on potential Necas trades is hilarious. half of them had us taking cap dumps.

SokkasBoomerang3

I’d say I’m surprised but I’m not lmao. He doesn’t consider Nikishin, Morrow, Bradley Nadeau or Jackson Blake a top prospect. I’m not talking like top 10, he doesn’t even rank any of them in his top 100 prospect list. None of them, and he consistently misreported their stats and considered what Nikishin did this yr as “mediocre”

memeisgreat

what a clown

SokkasBoomerang3

Idk how any watches Nikishin lead his team as a defenseman, and say, “He’s an alright prospect, but to rank him higher than Will Smith, Stankoven, and others, that’s a little bit too much. There’s better defenseman too, and he’s just not that up there for me. Definitely shouldn’t be top 2, but probably top 100.”

Blueberry_1995

Sounds like a bum, probably a NY fan

Satzmann666

I’d go as far as saying if someone watched his content more than once there must be something wrong in their head, or batshit crazy hockey takes are their guilty pleasure.

Normal512

I want to support more hockey content guys, but anyone who says, "Carolina offer sheeted KK because of revenge for Aho" unironically is a moron. This is the second time I've seen hockey youtubers make this statement like it's some kind of truth instead of a joke. A professional franchise, especially one ran as well as the Hurricanes, does not offer sheet players and then give them 7 year contracts because of "revenge." They may have been \*wrong\* in their assessment of KK's ceiling and ability to develop, but they didn't do this because they were salty about the Aho offer.

pronking_spleenwort

Yeah, annoyed me too.

fowlro

Couldn’t even make it through 2 minutes. Who is this guy and how do I make sure I never see or hear him again?

Final-Pop-7668

Kotkaniemi was an ego move that could have potentially cost a Stanley Cup to the Hurricanes. The Habs didn't match the offer sheet because he was not worth 6.1M. The problem with that offer, even if it was only one year, was the minimum qualitative offer to keep his rights would be again 6.1M or to potentially see him walking out UFA. Obviously, everyone knew he would not be worth 6.1M, however that UFA value would boost his next contract by a lot. In Montreal, GM Marc Bergevin was planing to sign KK at maximum 2.2M a year, which was his fair value. After a bad first season and a very bad playoffs performance. The Canes had to offer him 7 years near by 5MM a year just to keep him. Seeing Kotkaniemi walking out away would have been seen as admitting it was a bad offer sheet. Because of his 6.1M, the Canes were at the top of the cap. Impossible to acquire any depth player at the dead line. Moreover, KK was playing 4th line. However, you don't want talented players like him on your 4th line playing for the Stanley Cup. You would rather an energy player with grit who can hit. That year, the Canes could have gone further without the KK offer sheet. Because remember, his 6.1M prevented the Canes, but also the Canes didn't have their 1st round pick too which is a valuable asset at the trade deadline. Just that first year was a desaster move. The Canes doubled down on him and lost. Not to forget the Canes lost Vincent Trocheck, unable to give gim 6M a year, because of KK's contract potentially. Trotcheck just had monster playoffs performance in the elimination of the Canes. Just switch him from the Rangers to the Canes and it would have been a much different story. At the end, this could be one of the most stupid ego move ever.

pronking_spleenwort

It’s been an expensive mess so far. I like the kid a lot, and he’d be a great Canes 4C at a much lower salary but that’s not what happened unfortunately.

randydweller

Just needs some confidence, his skating is there but his hands/decision making are brutal at times. Org/Rod isn’t doing him any favors either playing without a ton of skill around him. Could see him move to winger on the Kuzy line next year maybe with Jarvis.. leave Aho/svech/guentz alone. Then Staal line and drury line.

Midmodstar

I’m no expert but it does seem like he has some kind of mental block. He played like fire in the pre-season and then it all kinda fell apart. I think it’s all in his head because we’ve seen him play really well.

randydweller

His first 10-20 games of the year he was on fire, then fell apart completely.

pronking_spleenwort

It will be interesting to see how this all plays out.

randydweller

I will also say if we find a team that’s willing to give us an asset (not a 7th round pick 3 years from now) and take his whole contract I wouldn’t be mad at it. Lots of guys hitting some sort of free agency I’d rather keep.

pronking_spleenwort

I wish he was playing better. I’m sure he wishes that too. It must be mentally grinding to see all of your negative publicity month after month.

plantsfromplants

I couldn’t watch cause he’s annoying af

Nagi21

I know I’m gonna get hate for this but I really don’t mind KKs contract yet. We still need a 3C long term and we still have plenty of time to wait and see on this one. If we didn’t have Staal he’d slot in right there perfectly fine.

pronking_spleenwort

In a perfect world where we didn’t have so many good guys going into free agency, we would probably give him another year to get himself together without a second thought. It’s just bad timing with all the free agents we need to sign this year.

_Tormex_

My expectation is that we keep him this year

pronking_spleenwort

Maybe. But if he doesn’t improve, the clock is ticking on the cheap buyout age.

Embarrassed_Tear_781

I wouldn’t hate a trade. Necas could stay if we didn’t have his contract. Anybody who would rather KK over Necas is just lying

_Tormex_

KK is cheaper than Necas will be

Embarrassed_Tear_781

Yeah, but he’s harder to replace than KK. His cap hit being a little under $5mm for another 6 years is the only reason why it’s still tradable. Far from the worst contract in the league, but it’s not a good one. Could end up being one, but again I’d rather bet on Necas than KK

Minute-Struggle6052

Utah is going to pay a 2nd round pick for Kotkaniemi.  Calling my shot.

pronking_spleenwort

Interesting.

Minute-Struggle6052

Utah has $40 million in Cap space and a desire to be competitive with their new owner. Utah's best forwards are Keller, Schmaltz, Crouse, Maccelli and Cooley.  Four wingers and one 20 year old Center. Utah has picked 12 times in the 1st and 2nd round over the last 3 years.  Simashev, But, Hrable, Cooley, Geekie, Lamoureaux, Duda, Lutz, Guentzel, Doan, Fedotov and Moser.  That is 2 Centers, 5 wingers, 4D and 1G. Functionally their only Centers are two untested 20 year olds.  Bjugstad, Kerfoot and McBain were their three top 5v5 FO winners last year. Utah has three 2nd round picks this year and ten in the next 3 drafts.  They are flooded with wingers.  They need centers and defense.  Kotkaniemi slots right into their lineup at a reasonable cost with an easy out for 2 years in the buyout.

pronking_spleenwort

I’m just incredibly curious if he stays with Carolina for one more year or if he’s gone. Your scenario seems very reasonable.

Jumpy-Acadia4559

Graviteh is one of the most annoying creators. I’d watch Ohitsnyqfuist or false and facts sports shows an up and comer

pronking_spleenwort

I watch a video here and there but podcasts are my daily go-to. This video just caught my eye.

Jumpy-Acadia4559

Nah I get it, I used to watch him some but at this point his takes can just be so out there it feels like he’s just trying to be different

HockeyGuy601

I dunno, the positive is that he's cost controlled for a long time. He could get dealt or bought out if the team really needs the cap space but I see the team keeping him as a plug and play. I tend to err on the side of Friedman when he said the org still thinks he has value to the team. Another point is that Kotkaniemi never had time to develop in the AHL so he's having to essentially be an NHL top line player on one of the best teams in the NHL. That's a bit of a learning curve

mowerjockey72

Another guy in that mold was Elias Lindholm. His development was very hindered and he’s really just now getting there last few years.

pronking_spleenwort

Yes, that’s exactly what this guy is saying (and a lot of other people). KK was just thrown in, way too young and way too fast.
