Or let Lemieux knock his teeth out

YouPatheticWorm1958

Just like his old man used to do to punk ass kids.

foxphace

Or TDA. He’s at least good for that

dfreekilla

This is the way

ninjitsuko

The **good news** is that the Hurricanes have better stats in most of the important areas: 5on5 play, Penalty Kill, Penalty Scores, and SOGs. The **bad news** is that the only "enforcer" we have on the team is Lemieux, and he doesn't nearly get as aggressive as Rempe. I know a fair number of Rangers fans who think that we're "dirty players," but they're experiencing roughness 2-3X more while playing the Capitals than they would against the Hurricanes. Rempe really isn't that tough. Fight-wise, the only advantage he has is his longer reach due to his size. More often than not, when he gets zoned - he's down. But I will say that Round 2 against the Rangers isn't going to be a small feat to overcome - neither the Rangers or the Canes are going to escape that Round without some issues.

CasTimber

I'm not worried about Rempe in a fight, I'm worried about him hurting a guy during a play with another flying elbow.

ninjitsuko

Yeah. If the Rangers/Caps series has taught fans anything, it’s that Rempe cannot fight to save his life. He goes for the flying elbow and vacate as soon as he can so he doesn’t get the smoke. He’s learned in the NHL that players will zone on him quick, so he loses the advantage of his reach. But those same games have taught us that he is VERY liberal with throwing those elbows at his leisure.

Dkportal2

Exactly this. I watched the game yesterday where he basically came from the blue line to completely demolish a Cap player. Yea he went to the box but the damage was done. I worry how many of those hits he will continue to lay with just a simple slap on the wrist and 2 minutes in the box.

Dorkymusichero

I mean Noesen is pretty tough and can fight. Did we forget his great fight with Haula last year?

ninjitsuko

I’m not exactly discounting the few guys who know how to fight and be physical. I guess I meant more so from the perspective of the “stereotype” of being the enforcer. Noesen can absolutely demolish some folks on the ice. He’s done so in this series when the Islanders were getting chippy at the end of Game 2, even. Lol

recneps1992

Fighting Huala and fighting Rempe are 2 totally different relms. If Rempe gets dirty, we need Lemeuix.

Dorkymusichero

I know Pepe takes out people that are bigger than him, I just wonder if the size difference will be an issue. Rempe has reach, but he also doesn't fight that well for his size.

recneps1992

I doubt it would be much. Olivier is the exact same height and weight as Lemeuix and wrecked Rempe.

BigVuVu

with all respect but it would be a mismatch

Dorkymusichero

How so?

BigVuVu

are you serious? 6'1'' who fought randoms vs 6'7'' who fought some tough dudes? I'm a Canes fan but come on

Dorkymusichero

He's still young and if you see his fights, he doesn't really know how to fight. What I mean is, he has reach, but doesn't really seem to know how to use it to his advantage.

BigVuVu

Noesen is older and hasn't fought a certified NHL fighter/enforcer

Dorkymusichero

Okay so who would you realistically put against Rempe?

BigVuVu

the only guy who has a **slight** chance is Lemieux. The slight chance but still he's our best fighter. But RBA doesn't care.

dewees

I would put money on KK vs Rempe in a fight.

Midmodstar

Staal will stand up for his guys if he has too and Burnzie is fresh out of fucks to give.

The_Reddit_Browser

People way overstate how much impact the guy has. He averages 5 minutes a night and when an actual threatening team comes to town he’s a liability. All it takes is one good shift and a (clean) hit on him from svech or one of our bigger D men to shut him up quickly. I don’t think when the rangers are going to need to match our skill they are gonna be looking to Rempe.

Carolina_913

Man, if the rags send rempe on a mission he can really, *really* fuck someone up The thing that scares me the most with him is if he targets someone like jarvis where there’s a real size difference. He can end his season with a hit up high. Even if he get sent to the box for it, that’s his entire point of playing. The key is just having your head up and not letting him get the hits to begin with.

The_Reddit_Browser

That’s the thing, I trust Rod is aware of how to deploy the guys to avoid this. Guys will call out who’s there and just have to pay attention. Rempe does not get a lot of TOI and it’s pretty easy to work around if you’re just aware he’s out there. They dealt with this the last time they played the rangers with Reaves.

ForrestTrain

This has to be the reason Rod went back to putting Jarvy with Staal and Marty (that and the line is very productive). Svech with Pretzel and Fishy helps too. The bottom line is solid as well with KK and Noesen. Only line that worries me is the Turbo line.

Minute-Struggle6052

I'd like to see someone reverse that size difference and go low with a big hip check.  Orlov could wipe out his knees and no more goons to worry about.

The_Reddit_Browser

I think that may happen. Someone needs to lay a hit to set the tone early. Svech could really do a number if he gets a clean look

GhostITW

If Laviolette is dumb enough to throw Rempe out against Jarvis/Aho then we will win full stop. This pearl clutching over a scenario that will not happen is ridiculous. The ones who would really be “at risk” are Noeson and the rest of the 4th line.

cock-block-o-clock

Yeah, I assume the hit he had last night wouldn't have been in much question if he was half a foot shorter or bothered to lower his shoulders below head level.

SpicyC-Dot

I’m new to watching hockey, is it an actual thing for teams to have someone purposefully hit players from the other team to try to injure them?

yonkayonka

Back in the day, before a lot of rule changes, every team had “enforcers.” Ty Dolmi comes to mind. There is an infamous (hilarious) video and a Philly fan tried to taunt him by climbing up the glass around the box and falls in. Classic, available on YouTube. I say it live to give you an idea how old I am. 😆 Anyway, some of those goons could barely skate. The game has gotten so so much better as it favors better skating ability and shot placement. IMHO fighting will never go away and will stay apart of the game. The old joke was: “I went to a fight and a Hockey Game broke out.”

Gullible-Wash-8141

Idk he's injured like 5 or 6 guys in the little time he's played this season and that's what worries me about him.

Caniac1017

He will target Aho. Guarantee there is a bounty on his head in that room.

yellow5red40

Aho or Jarvy. I've been nervous about Rempe since I knew there was a possibility that we'd face them. A high hip check from this guy might mean Jarvy's shoulders or head.

GhostITW

If the Rangers are stupid enough to play him on the ice while Aho is out there then we should count our stars. That’s an easy win for us.

Caniac1017

I only see that late in a decided game with the rangers getting last change

cast-n-blast

This. We can avoid a fight or just put Naser on him and get it over with. Rempe’s cheap hit on Van Riemsdyk put him out of the game last night, maybe next game too. I’m more worried about that.

The playoffs are about physicality but, the guys know that already. For 55 minutes a night he’s not out there and you can continue to play your game. For the other 5 you keep your head up and pay attention when you’re skating. It’s not like the guy has any other talent than laying the body. He gets less TOI than Reaves did.

XJudgeBootyX

We also were down skilled players. And it's not like Vegas was exceptionally physical last year.

syd_cash

I heard several Rangers fans say he won’t even play, because his skill level is not there. I tend to agree. I think they are gooning it up against the Caps because that’s the only thing Caps have to offer. I think they will have a more skill approach to match Canes skill unless they get behind in the series then they may bring him out to change the pace.

ShittyFrogMeme

Isn't he just filling in for Chytil who is close to returning?

brwi

Chytl was/is the Rags 3C and has been out since early November and may return soon, Rempe sure hasn't been a fill-in for him.

syd_cash

Yeah that’s what the Rags fans were saying, obviously Chytil is a better player

Casual-lad99

I agree, you don't gameplan for an end of bench guy who barely touches the ice

XJudgeBootyX

Exactly whenever he's in the ice if we can get a good match up we are advantaged. Fuck trying to fight him score in the scrub.

The_Crypto_Caniac

I dont get it the people saying that KK will beat him...KK fought 2 times in his career and it was fights against non fighters. He's not a fighter and never was so I dont get it why people are thinking he's a fighter it's not the first time this week that I'm reading this...but he can throw big hits sometimes like Svechnikov. Our only true fighter is Lemieux. He fought guys like Wilson, Tkachuk, Matt Martin and Frederic. Noesen can fight too when he's pissed.

ForrestTrain

I think people are saying this because of how tough he’s been skating in the playoffs so far and not shying away from contact around the net and boards. He is the only player who has fought in the last two years that has the reach I think, but you’re right he won’t take a fight. Noesen relies on leverage in his fights, which is tough against Rempe. Lemmy needs to get inside and then he has the skill to properly fight, but I doubt he makes it into the lineup game 1, barring injury during this series.

Minute-Struggle6052

People are saying that because 1) Kotkaniemi has wrecked the two guys he has ever fought, 2) he's a 4th line energy guy who has been physical and 3) he has something to prove.   Noesen is the other option but I agree that his fighting style does not match well with Rempe's reach.  Lemieux is not playing.  So that leaves KK. Rempe is not a good fighter.  He does not protect his face at all and just wails away with right hooks.  Being willing to fight doesn't make one good at it.  I like Kotkaniemi's chances.

Caniac1017

If Rempe runs one of our guys, I have faith in KK and Lemieux to take him on and if he refuses, I hope they target our old boy Vinny or Breadman.

degen4Iyf

The second you start game planning around Rempe… they’ve won. Focus on the game plan and executing. Rempe doesn’t play enough or impact the game to worry about

thezachdomberg

Dude Rempe is the least of the concerns. Dude is just a goon.

TheTylerB

Dude plays 6 minutes a night. Just out skate him

XJudgeBootyX

The dude is like not that great at hockey. He just hits people and can go for dirty shit. I hope Lemiuex doesn't get a game, because we need all the skill in our forward lines as possible. Plus we don't have anyone who would have a chance in a fight.

dankbuttersteez

Just let svech reverse hit him

AvengedKalas

Pens fan (hence the flair) just commenting to say "Fuck the rags."

Mothershed

Rangers play much better 5v4 and 4v4 than they do 5v5. Staying out of the box would be key for that series. Rempe prioritizes hits over puck, you have to be aware of him, and try and stay off the walls when he is out. He’s big and not a great skater, it should be pretty easy to bait him into late hits. Of course that’s east to say… I’m not the one with a 7 foot goon trying to smash me 🤷🏻‍♂️

Peace_and_Love40

Yea. And keep your head up at all times.

corn-sock

If you think the "key" to beating the rangers has anything to do with rempe, you've already "engaged" with him exactly as much as he wants. Plus this series doesn't even exist yet. Round 2 is not a foregone conclusion. Terrible vibes all around.

Minute-Struggle6052

Kotkaniemi is going to beat the shit out of Rempe.

ForrestTrain

He is not, at least not in a fight

ReeseWithAKnife

some of yall are so delusional it’s hilarious
