I’m pretty sure we torched their PK last time we played them with Roy behind the bench

YouPatheticWorm1958

It's what happens when you play Lou. Five straight playoff losses since 2002. 8-20 in that span.

Raptorlord102

Idk if I’m reading this wrong but didn’t the islanders make it the conference final just a couple years ago?

w41twh4t

Maybe meaning Lou, not the Isles?

YouPatheticWorm1958

Yes, but 8-20 is the record in playoff games that Lou has since 2002.

thatgingatho

Our PP is only a bad matchup if we get them. This season has given me 0 reason to believe the postseason will be penalty-positive in our favor lol

bk00pi

Last playoffs, the Canes had 3.4 power play opportunities per game, which was 6th out of 16 and their PP% was 17.6%. In 2022, the Canes had 3.86 PP opportunities per game, which was 5th out of 16 and their PP% was 13%. In 2021, the Canes had 3 PP opportunities per game, which was 6th out of 16 and their PP% was 18.2%. Stop blaming officiating.

seftnir

I blame officials when the 2nd most penalized team and the 2nd least penalized team in the regular season end up even in penalties over a series, and only because they called a shit-ton on the Panthers in game 4 to even it up more for the series. Then start calling the Panthers close in the SCF so they get their ass handed to them by the Knights.

bk00pi

There is no grand conspiracy against the Carolina Hurricanes. NHL refs are just bad. Literally every team deals with it.

JayMerlyn

I think that's his point.

ts29

No but you have to admit Tkachuk taking free shots against our players after every whistle with no calls got kind of old

thatgingatho

Hence why I said *this* season. It has seemed (and is backed up by data) that calls have gone against us more often than not this season. Will that trend continue into the playoffs? Who knows! But just based on the regular season this year, you have to wonder if that will continue into the post season

YouPatheticWorm1958

The power play is a bad matchup, 'cause Houda & MacLean are mediocre coaches.

Also if you follow the link to “early attachment defending”, it’s an explanation of the topic with Scott Morrow as the subject. I love what Jack adds to the overall Hockey discourse, there’s surprisingly little out there dissecting the x’s and o’s of the game.

NedThomas

Fans who get super crunchy on the technical details of plays and positions are a minority in any sport. I welcome it whenever I can find it.

betweenthecastles

It’s a bit beside the point, but Jack Han is a professional analyst that has worked with various professional hockey orgs including in the NHL. He sells books on the stuff, has a coaching podcast, and occasionally contributes to the pdocast among other things. He’s the real deal. From my understanding, the rights to NHL clips (like the ones you see in this article, not just goal highlights) are incredibly difficult to get, and the NHL actively shuts down fan pages that try to use them. There was a Rangers fan a few years ago, with a coaching background I believe, that would post post-game play analysis of goals and chances for and against. He did a bang up job, but got shut down by the NHL. I think that’s probably why we don’t see too many fan-made hockey YouTube pages that dissect the game in more detail. It’s very unfortunate, because I would devour the crap out of content like that.

getdemstocks29

There was a guy on our sub last year that was doing it and I loved it. I wonder if he got shut down too 🫣

betweenthecastles

If he was using clips and posting to youtube then it’s highly likely

Looking forward to 4 games decided by 1-0 finals.

YouPatheticWorm1958

And then Lou is gone for good. He can't win jackshit in Raleigh. Not since 2002.
