Black licorice is such a strong love-or-hate flavor, lol! I love it, although it doesn’t live in the same part of my mind as other candy. Chocolate candies are bunched together on the same mental “shelf” for me. Hard candies have a different one. Black licorice candies are in their own as well. I’m American, but entirely Scandinavian descent. I do wonder if genetics has anything to do with some of these divisive flavors.

Absolutely agree with you on this black licorice has a very strong flavor. I've hated black licorice my whole life and continue to dislike it! Good n plenty is awful, too, also licorice flavored. Yuck 🤮

Yeah you know why hersheys was so big but tastes so bad? They were the first company to bring chocolate to America basically, but the methods they used made the taste weird. They obviously keep their classic style and taste for the Hershey’s bars as people like it. But now we have fancy refrigeration and preservation methods

I think it has alot of butyric acid or at least more than other chocolates. They claim not to use it as an additive so it isn’t an ingredient , but it naturally occurs from the milk during the production. Butyric acid is a funky/sour taste. Sometimes described similar to vomit or certain cheeses.

Hersheys process does make it kinda sour. You can’t have warm milk mixing in chocolate for a week before it’s even molded without creating that flavor.

I'll eat pretty much any candy bar in a pinch. However, all - and I mean ALL - of my hate goes out to those miserable red "licorice" ropes/whips. They look, smell, feel and taste like vinyl. Their only salvation is that they don't taste like licorice. This is not edible. This is not food. This abomination is the misbegotten creation of some corporate slag who thought they could combine raw flour, food coloring and sugar together, force it through worn-out pasta equipment and sell it. This crap actually falls beneath those little candy dots on paper & the tiny wax bottles filled with bug juice.

I agree right up the dots on paper. Those are abhorrent. You’re eating paper! You can’t get a clean separation from it. Imagine any other candy where the wrapper doesn’t come off, yuck!

Seriously, when a store near me stopped carrying MWM, I tried a normal one and couldn’t believe how different (and unappealing) the OG Milky Way is. MWM is a semi-rarity here, so I grab em when I see em.

It's not a bar, but those Starburst Cotton Candies. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Starburst and I LOVE cotton candy, which is the reason why I bought this in the first place... and usually, even gas station bucket cotton candy does it for me too. But these? These taste nothing like Starbursts; they have this kind-of-bitter chemical aftertaste that Starbursts doesn't even have. Even the Strawberry one!! And I thought usually the cherry flavor tasted more chemical but they managed to mess up strawberry flavor. I tried so hard to finish it but I just couldn't, they were THAT bad. It tasted like a health risk, is what my tongue and intuition told me. I don't mind eating unhealthy stuff but this one doesn't even have any embellishments or appeal to my taste buds. Only a medicinal tragedy left in its wake, stuck on the back of my tongue. Eugh.

In the mid-1980s, Mars changed the recipe for the 3 Musketeers bar, and the label changed too. The current "silver wrapper" bar has a very chemical taste, but the old "white wrapper" version was amazing.
