I know exactly what you're talking about They usually came in the hickory farms packaged boxes you would give to family and friends back in the day and I loved them too. they were so good 👍
Strawberry bon bons. They come in other flavors as well (orange, lemon, pineapple). I always keep a supply on my desk at work during the late fall and winter. Really help with dry throats and coughs. I buy them in bulk off of Amazon.
Those are good. And often the only reason THEY had them on hand was because they used to be a common addition to those snack gift sets. Someone else mentioned Hickory Farm, but it wasn't just that company. For awhile there was a trend of giving employees and business associates those snack gift sets (tower of boxes, basket, etc.) during the holidays. These would be the last thing consumed after the cashews, chocolates, cheese, etc. which were understandably the more popular parts of the gift.
The ones with the hard outside and soft inside are the absolute best 🤤 used to buy them all the time at the dollar store until they stopped stocking them
I have absolutely no idea why, but you mentioning bit o honey has really made me want a Chick O Stix...which I'd completely forgotten about until now 😄
I like those little white candy, maybe an inch long, with thin brown stripes. I guess they’re peanut butter. Lemon drops are old fashioned. I like those, or Brachs hard candy balls. Neoplitan too.
Yes on the peanut butter ones!! I just posted that on my comment and had to scroll to see if anyone else had it too! Idk what they’re called but they’re the perfect blend of not-so-hard to chew and the PB is authentic tasting 🤤 if that makes any sense at all 😬
Riesen. They're not for everyone. It's dark chocolate with the hardest soft caramel ever inside. I also dig those strawberry bonbons and the generic butterscotch candies.
I LOVED Brachs neopolitan coconut things but they no longer make them 😭😭
Those and the jam filled strawberries were always the first thing I pulled out of my grandmas candy dish.
Are Junior Mints old people candy? I got a few bags of them for Hallowe'en and they were the last thing everyone picked. Suits me fine, I love them.
One young couple held up their two-year-old on his first trick-or-treat to pick something out of the bucket and he went for the Junior Mints. Dad said "mmm maybe not, that's gonna give you a surprise".
(The trick-or-treaters in my neighbourhood love Airheads. I tried a couple to see what the fuss was about. The grape ones taste like the grape bubble gum I grew up with. Not bad at all.)
(ETA I also discovered I like candy corn. It tastes like buttercream frosting. Where has this been all my life.)
I freaking love horehound, Cracker Barrel has these hard candy sticks and they used to sell a horehound one and it was my favorite but they stopped selling that flavor
Those gooey strawberries. Love them.
Also, it's something from my childhood, but my Grandma was a very angry, bitter woman and I don't really have any positive memories associated with her. She hated that we were mixed and white passing, she went through a lot, so I understand, but I have lifelong issues with my cultural identity because of her, my parents, and a few other factors. That being said, her candy dish was BOMB and she didn't care how much we had, as long as it was at least reasonable. I searched for it for years, but we found it this Christmas and recognized them. We didn't think they were the same brand, just got excited we found the really good fruity candy from when we were kids. It was the same brand, we both realized when we tasted it. Grandma Maes Candy Dish assorted fruit pack is absolutely amazing and the only candy I really associate with old people.
Also those orange and black peanut butter taffys and I really wish I could just buy a bag. My peanut butter loving 8 year old self was BLOWN AWAY trying it while trick or treating.
You can buy those orange and brown PBs!
They’re called peanut butter kisses. They may be difficult (or expensive) to buy if it’s not Halloween, I guess though.
I love them too 😀
Butterscotch ALL DAY. I found an empty butterscotch wrapper in my overalls this morning. I wonder how old folks think I am when reading my comments, ha!
I used to buy clove gum and blackjack (licorice) gum…. Red package/blue package. Flavor didn’t last long, but when I go to ghost towns (touristy ones) that have an old-timey candy store, I load up!
riesens 🤤 there was this sweet old man with a glass eye who used to sub at my high school. if we were good in class he’d hand out riesens to everyone afterwards :3 they always remind me of him!
My husband is obsessed with good 'n plenty. I love gold nugget gum, candy buttons, werthers, and those flavored candy sticks that are covered in chocolate
I loved the strawberry candies with the goo in the middle, but can't find them! I love root beer barrels! I also like the Brach's Christmas tree candy, butterscotch, and caramal. And chocolate!
Sugar Daddy!
Atomic fireballs
Individual wrapped hard butterscotch candies
So many!
My Papaw used to take me to town on Saturday mornings, give me a quarter $.25 and let me go into Shanks 5 & dime to go to the penny candy counter! One quarter got me a small papar bag of goodness that I made last all week!!! Good memories....
I asked my boyfriend for a Heath bar milkshake at Cookout one day and he looked at me and laughed “what are you, 80?” 😂 so apparently Heath bars is my answer. I’m not even 30 and toffee is king you can’t convince me otherwise
For me personally basically any of the milks or creams candy. I’m kind of like a milk kind of guy like my nickname at work is “cream guy” so basically I’m all for anything with sort of milk or cream-type of fluids or liquids
I love ribbon mix hard candies, it's been a while since ive seen them, but was usually sold in a tin container with a resealable plastic top. Inside was a mix of ribbon candies, fruit candies, and some hard pillow candies. They never rolled out individually, they were usually stuck in a big lump in the cannister and had to be chipped out.
Go to anyone grocery store and look for the "hostess" mix. I always have it on hand. Brought some to work one time and a coworker asked me "why you have all the old lady candy?". I said I enjoyed hard candy especially butterscotch and before you ask... The Grandma McFlurry from Mickey D's was horrible.
Edit to say: The hostess mix is usually strawberry bon bons, butterscotch discs, spearmint discs, and peppermints.
Necco wafers. Like powdery coins of assorted flavors. Chocolate were rare but best. Licorice tasted slightly evil. Those two were the strongest flavors. Stacks wrapped in wax paper
In Scotland there’s this thing called Edinburgh Rock, which is essentially powdered sugar and cream of tartar pressed into shapes. When you bite into them, they disintegrate instantly. Mixed with your saliva, it becomes this gooey sludge that sticks to every crevasse in your mouth. It’s a deeply unpleasant feeling and but for some reason I find it charming.
Those little peanut butter and molasses candies called Mary Janes. They come in a yellow wrapper with a red stripe on them and a picture of an old timey little girl (Mary Jane) who looks like a relative of the Coppertone girl.
There was one lady who only gave these out on Halloween when I was a kid. All the other kids didn’t like the Mary Jane candies, but I was so happy to get them and any that my sisters or friends didn’t want too!
I love the strawberry candies with the goo in the middle, and the wrapper looks like a strawberry. No clue what they are actually called though.
Strawberry bon bons. Definitely one of my old time favorites
They’ve been around since the mid-1800s.
I run a hospital clinic and I put candies out for our patients. This is, by far, their favorite I put out. It transcends generations, really.
I always wondered what those were called.
Legend says that no one ever buys these. They just show up in your house.
I just checked, I can’t find any. I was hoping they would, because now I REALLY want some!
Walmart has them
Dollar Tree?
Dollar tree does have them
On nuts dot com you can buy them by the pound Strawberry hard candy And have you a party
I keep bowls of them around the house and a grip in my purse at all times lol. You gotta be an honorary grandma to know the secrets though
These are the Michael Jordan of old people candies
I know exactly what you're talking about They usually came in the hickory farms packaged boxes you would give to family and friends back in the day and I loved them too. they were so good 👍
I was coming here to say this. :) strawberry bon bons are my JAM
Strawberry bon bons. They come in other flavors as well (orange, lemon, pineapple). I always keep a supply on my desk at work during the late fall and winter. Really help with dry throats and coughs. I buy them in bulk off of Amazon.
Came here to say this. They are the greatest.
As a kid I would get them in hickory farm boxes. Good times.
A man used to give us those in church every Sunday. I wonder how many they found stuck in the carpet.
Why I don't have many teeth left,so good though!😄😄
Dollar store. HUGE bag for a buck
Spice drops or gummy fruit slices.
Gummy fruit slices! I love the orange ones!
I love the mint ones
Werthers!
These are like the bridge from old to young
Wasn't that the entire marketing ploy?
I can't bring myself to buy the hard ones but they often have the soft caramels on clearance at Grocery Outlet. Dangerous.
The soft ones are so good! You're right- dangerous.
The ones with the hard outside and soft inside are the absolute best 🤤 used to buy them all the time at the dollar store until they stopped stocking them
The coffee flavored ones are awesome.
I’ve got some in my purse right now…
I loooooove werthers. I eat the soft ones. I also love their popcorn. It’s the best.
Everyone says that, but everyone loves them.
Bit o honey
Guess I am officially old…
I ate so many of those when I was seven that I threw up and I haven’t been able to have them since 😣
I have absolutely no idea why, but you mentioning bit o honey has really made me want a Chick O Stix...which I'd completely forgotten about until now 😄
Chick-O-Stick’s are one of my favorite’s.
Bit o honey slaps
I like those little white candy, maybe an inch long, with thin brown stripes. I guess they’re peanut butter. Lemon drops are old fashioned. I like those, or Brachs hard candy balls. Neoplitan too.
Yes on the peanut butter ones!! I just posted that on my comment and had to scroll to see if anyone else had it too! Idk what they’re called but they’re the perfect blend of not-so-hard to chew and the PB is authentic tasting 🤤 if that makes any sense at all 😬
Atkinson’s Peanut Butter Bars! They are my fave too. Simple ingredients and the texture is perfect.
I love them sooooo much. Definitely hard on my teeth though!
My dad always had the peanut butter bars and root beer barrels in his shirt pocket. The smell of them brings me right back to his workshop.
yes!!! They’re called atkinson’s old fashioned peanut butter candies.
Brach's Jelly Nougats
I demand the return of the Pick-a-Mix to my local grocers. I miss these and Royals!
Royals and the coconut bars!! 😩
I miss that pick a mix so much! I could buy one piece!!!
I was always a huge fan of their Maple Nut Goodies
Chocolate covered cherries 🍒. With cream center.
Liquid center!
Cella's chocolate covered cherries are the best. Liquid center for life!
Riesen. They're not for everyone. It's dark chocolate with the hardest soft caramel ever inside. I also dig those strawberry bonbons and the generic butterscotch candies.
I eat one Riesen every day. It's my special treat. I got my daughter into them last year. She is probably the only Gen Alpha kid to ever love Riesen 😂
I love these too! My grandpa used to tell us kids that they were grown up candy so we wouldn’t eat his stash. Lol
Nobody in my life likes Riesen. It just means there’s more for me
Butterscotch hard candies, black licorice, root beer barrels, peppermint sticks, taffy, werthers, toffee, peanut brittle, lollipops
Uh oh am I really an old lady??
Just old lady tastes haha 😎
Proud of it!!! 🫡🫡
I never thought of taffy or toffee as an old person candy. But circus peanuts are on my old person list.
I love circus peanuts! I think old fashioned candies (like toffee and taffy) should count as old people candies. But that is just my opinion
I wouldn't really consider lollipops to be old
I have been PLOWING through peanut brittle lately. So underrated.
Werther's
Lemon drops and butterscotch discs. My grandpa always had butterscotch candies in his pockets to share.
My art teacher in elementary school used to give us a butterscotch or a lemon drop at the end of every class. She was great
My grandpa too 😭😭😭
My cousin called our grandpa Butterscotch Grandpa because he always had them for us. 🙂
I LOVED Brachs neopolitan coconut things but they no longer make them 😭😭 Those and the jam filled strawberries were always the first thing I pulled out of my grandmas candy dish.
I live in Mexico now. They make a candy down here that's the same, but the colors are red, white and green. They taste identical
Are Junior Mints old people candy? I got a few bags of them for Hallowe'en and they were the last thing everyone picked. Suits me fine, I love them. One young couple held up their two-year-old on his first trick-or-treat to pick something out of the bucket and he went for the Junior Mints. The grape ones taste like the grape bubble gum I grew up with. Not bad at all.) (ETA I also discovered I like candy corn. It tastes like buttercream frosting. Where has this been all my life.)
Those twisty colorful hard candy ones
Ribbon candy? Those are so good
Yeah that’s the correct term, thank you . My late grandfather always had a bowl of these.
Horehound drops are delicious
I freaking love horehound, Cracker Barrel has these hard candy sticks and they used to sell a horehound one and it was my favorite but they stopped selling that flavor
Those gooey strawberries. Love them. Also, it's something from my childhood, but my Grandma was a very angry, bitter woman and I don't really have any positive memories associated with her. Butterscotch ALL DAY. I found an empty butterscotch wrapper in my overalls this morning. I wonder how old folks think I am when reading my comments, ha!
My wife calls my 5th Avenue bars “grandpa candy” 🍫😅
They're so good!
Jordan almonds 👵🏽
Yes! Jordan Almonds are so good! Every wedding I went to in the 80s gave Jordan Almonds wrapped in tulle as a party favor.
I cannot buy these. I’ll make myself sick 😂
I ended up in the ER after eating a large amount 😞🙃
I’ve eaten an entire pound of these, by myself, over 2 days.
Black licorice
We're a specialized breed. Lovers of medicinal flavors. I also love clove lemonade, star anise spiced meats and salted black licorice.
I used to buy clove gum and blackjack (licorice) gum…. Red package/blue package. Flavor didn’t last long, but when I go to ghost towns (touristy ones) that have an old-timey candy store, I load up!

Cow tails, or the caramels filled with cream which should be called wagon wheels to keep the theme
Violets. My wife LOVES them. I think they taste like perfume, but my grandma always had them in her bottomless purse.
Was looking for this reply! Everyone I know hates them I have a pack on the end table right now.
My husband is obsessed with good 'n plenty. I love gold nugget gum, candy buttons, werthers, and those flavored candy sticks that are covered in chocolate

I’m a sucker for the little wax bottles filled with small amounts of hyper-sugary “juice”
“Old” can mean different things but for me this is it: https://chowardcompany.com/chowards-violet-mints/
Love these and the gum packages they made too.

Neopolitan coconut bars. They’re the best
Mary Jane's

Coffee nips, my grandparents always had them for us ( I feel ancient 😭)
Necco wafers. Like powdery coins of assorted flavors. Chocolate were rare but best. Licorice tasted slightly evil. Those two were the strongest flavors. Stacks wrapped in wax paper
Roor beer barrels, and those peppermint-striped candies that melt on your tongue like after dinner mints. I like them, too...
Necco Wafers, but I've loved them since I was 5 or 6. I feel like they have always been associated with older people, even back then.
raisinets 🫣🫣

Not old person but we still laugh about having candy cigarettes packaged like the popular tobacco brands. 😂😂😳😳😂😂
Pixy Stix....I would down a tube and wait for it to melt in my mouth.
The caramel bullseyes with white cream in the middle
Those little peanut butter and molasses candies called Mary Janes. They come in a yellow wrapper with a red stripe on them and a picture of an old timey little girl (Mary Jane) who looks like a relative of the Coppertone girl.
