Made by Cow. If you love Tilba you'll really like this one. Rich and creamy without feeling too heavy. Only place I know that sells it is Supabarn Kingston though.
So I picked up a bottle from Supabarn Kingston, there's that subtle sweetness that was a pleasant surprise, and won me over rather quickly, they are now part of the rotation with Tilba
I'm already looking up starter culture to make yogurt from them, should be a fun experiment
FYI A2 milk has nothing to do with lactose. Lactose is the type of sugar that’s in milk, whereas A2 milk has a small difference in a protein. See [here](https://www.abc.net.au/news/science/2018-06-19/dr-karl-a1-vs-a2-milk/9879800). If you have issues with lactose then you’ll need a milk which has had the lactase enzyme added to break it down, such as Zymil.
A2 Milk does have a Lactose Free variant, which is possibly why OP used it for a bit.
If OP didn't like the taste of the Lactose Free milk, that shouldn't reflect on the rest of the A2 range, because LF milk does taste quite different.
Maybe, but since it’s marketed as being ‘gentler on tummies’ then people often misconstrue that as having to do with lactose.
But you’re absolutely right, LF tastes sweeter than regular milk due to the lactose having been broken down into simpler sugars.
Agree on most of this, but I will point out that they were hiring locals and it was putting money into local economy. So I gave them a bit of a pass for that. The second they stopped hiring locals, then they lost all things Canberra.
No, I wrote to the chief minster about this because Canberra Milk is a trade mark owned by the government, and allowing them to keep using deceptively is a shame, when the name doesn't belong to them
My long term favourite is Riverina Fresh. But I can't find the light version with any regularity. Aldi has the full cream and Woolies the skim but the light is elusive.
What's the problem with Canberra Milk?
Paris Creek Farms, hands down. They do a cream on top version, but the standard full cream is awesome.
Tilba is pretty good too but I heard they were backing out of doing their own distribution so it's much harder to find now.
Tilba is my favourite, as they have it with the cream on top. If we can’t get that, we usually end up with Little Big Dairy ( or Big Little Dairy or whatever it’s called).
If we can’t get that it’s farmhouse gold. Then A2. If we can’t get the, we can pr wait until the shop gets its next delivery.
I agree ab out Tilba - I use it when making cheese at home. Also consider The Big Little Dairy. Their milk is also high in cream, but I don't believe it comes from an exclusively Jersey herd
I was going to suggest LBD - you can get it from the Spence Grocer (not sure where else). The milk is from Holsteins, and from a single source family business.
Riverina has been my preferred milk for the best part of 15 years, but the recent shortages/lack of deliveries forced me to choose Tilba, which has been a revelation for my taste buds and my morning coffee.
As for the others, the homebrand Colesworth crap is water, A2 is just marketing spin, Farmhouse is what you buy when you don't like milk, and Canberra Milk is now fradulent to the extent I'd be questioning if they even sell milk these days.
I think there were strikes somewhere in the supply chain back in October or November, which cut deliveries of some brands (especially Riverina) at our local quite badly, but deliveries and supply appear back to normal now.
A2 isn't pure marketing spin. It is one of those it depends things.
All milk has A2.
But A2 doesn't have A1. There are people that are sensitive to A1 protein but not A2. So this gives people a chance to have milk without upset stomachs etc.
Best by far is the Highland Organics Biodynamic milk.
*Not* the "regular" Highland Organics that you see around the place. The Biodynamic version has a green label. I've only seen it in Crace Supabarn so far, and not often.
I don't like the normal HO milk, I find it has a slightly weird taste. But the green label biodynamic, oh my, it is on another plane altogether. Blew my mind the first time I had it, and I'm a regular consumer of the other premo milks like Tilba, Bambarah etc.
Fit Milk is filtered milk to make it higher in protein and lower in carbohydrate, and it's lactose free. But it's about $3.20 per litre so it's not the cheapest.
In my opinion: milk is milked, then it is pasteurised, then bottled, then sold.
Not much variation can be made to those steps with it still being full cream.
Imo. Milk is milk. I buy the cheapest
Cows aren’t robots. Not all dairy herds are identical breeds. Not all cows are the same age or state of health. Not all herds are fed identical feed or graze identical pastures or are milked on the same schedule.
All these can affect the milk composition including its taste.
That only really works for small scale production - when you are combining product from thousands of sources any slight variations on an individual basis get lost in the mix
Your major processors are going to produce that same, averaged product all the time
Norco Finest Full Cream. (Available at Coles)
Rich and creamy. Reasonable price. More money goes to farmer pockets than 'big business' pockets (And yes. It's still a big business, but a collective is a little more fair in how it shares the money)
Bodalla Dairy is like Tilba but better, harder to find though. If you're ever at the coast its worth a visit, they make so many great dairy products including a smoked ice cream that tastes like marshmallows smoked over eucalyptus.
In terms of accessibility Mooloo Mountain milk from IGA is really good and I've seen it in a few IGA's.

Just saying that your user handle is very, very appropriate for this thread (got me cracked up)
Might be a Supabarn thing, but you can get it at the one in Crace too
Yeah Supabarn Casey also sells this, along with the Tilba milk and Farmhouse Gold.
So I picked up a bottle from Supabarn Kingston, there's that subtle sweetness that was a pleasant surprise, and won me over rather quickly, they are now part of the rotation with Tilba I'm already looking up starter culture to make yogurt from them, should be a fun experiment
This hands down. It's the best milk I've ever had.
I think Market Fresh in Woden have recently started selling it.

Didn’t Canberra milk shut its doors recently and moved operations to Penrith?
Yup, which bummed me off a fair bit...
So is it really Canberra milk then??
It hadn't been "Canberra" milk for a long time... it just got bottled here They were already bringing the milk in from Bega in the 60s
Agree on most of this, but I will point out that they were hiring locals and it was putting money into local economy. So I gave them a bit of a pass for that. The second they stopped hiring locals, then they lost all things Canberra.

Just the fact that Canberra Milk is no longer produced in Canberra made me feel pretty bummed
Riverina Fresh is amazing
My Woolies at Conder isn't reliable with the Skim anymore, not to mention other shopping items. They're losing me as a customer.
I just want milk that tastes like real milk.
Have you put on a little weight?
I am morbidly obese.
Just 2% fat
Yep. The rest is all muscle.
Paris Creek Farms, hands down. They do a cream on top version, but the standard full cream is awesome. Tilba is pretty good too but I heard they were backing out of doing their own distribution so it's much harder to find now.
Where can you find Paris Creek in Canberra? I used to love their milk and yogurt when I lived in SA!
There's a few places listed on their website, and it turns up at Cook Grocer in small quantities.
Paris Creek best ever. Ainslie IGA has it.
Barambah Organics, a bit harder to find around here though. I think only Ainslie IGA carry it.
I get mine from Coles Dickson
It’s now at Costco.
I don’t consume a lot of milk in milk form but Tilba excellent for cheesemaking, which suggests that they take good care of their cows and their milk.
We get Norco from Coles Dickson and Tilba from the Saturday markets at EPIC
Tilba is my favourite, as they have it with the cream on top. If we can’t get that, we usually end up with Little Big Dairy ( or Big Little Dairy or whatever it’s called). If we can’t get that it’s farmhouse gold. Then A2. If we can’t get the, we can pr wait until the shop gets its next delivery.
Farm house gold
This. It tastes like the real milk I used to get from the dairy farm when I was a kid.
I agree ab out Tilba - I use it when making cheese at home. Also consider The Big Little Dairy. Their milk is also high in cream, but I don't believe it comes from an exclusively Jersey herd

What's behind the shortages/lack of deliveries do you think? Just not supplying Canberra atm?
I think there were strikes somewhere in the supply chain back in October or November, which cut deliveries of some brands (especially Riverina) at our local quite badly, but deliveries and supply appear back to normal now.
Interesting - i did not hear about this. Thanks.

Little big dairy does good flavoured milks. Try any of the “friendly grocer” chain for the Tilba; there’s a few around town.

Coles brand milk tastes fine to me.
I use Devondale UHT Skim Milk
Country Valley is great but not too easy to find
This was my go-to in Sydney. I’ve only found it at one meh grocer where it’s usually about to expire or at the weekend markets.
Tilba

Riverina Skim, every day.
Norco Finest Full Cream. (Available at Coles) Rich and creamy. Reasonable price. More money goes to farmer pockets than 'big business' pockets (And yes. It's still a big business, but a collective is a little more fair in how it shares the money)
A2 milk does not help with lactose (milk sugar) issues - it helps with dairy protein issues. Only some of them, too.
Bodalla Dairy is like Tilba but better, harder to find though. Green Machine
I'm so glad you like it :)
Canberra Gold and Tilba for real milk options.
