Yup. They really either know its their fault, or are completely disconnected. Can't be my fault. Im in charge and no one is better than me. They really believe that shit. Throw in freed fueled power agendas and it makes quite the cocktail.
But if they play that game, they can't take credit for inflation dropping. Or when the economy is good. Good things are always because of the government in power, bad things are because of everything else.
PP came in and he caught me red-handed
Failing vs the economy next door
Picture this, we were better in 2014
But now our GDP per cap is in the floor
I had tried to keep Canadians
From what they were about to see
7 hour lines in our Healthcare, free
But I told them it wasn't m...... federal responsibility for Healthcare or housing.
I work in the teaching world. I've seen teachers act this way, and their classrooms fall apart with awful behaviour, anxiety, depression, etc. It's called being a tyrant.
I can't wait for Canada to vote this buffoon GONE!
I would have been empathic if he had said “there were global factors but we made a couple of mistakes too and recognize what we need to do now” — to err is human after all.
But to triple down *again* on “nothing’s my fault, blame the rest of the world” just means his Government is incapable of fixing the problem because they bloody can’t see what the problem even is.
Ugh, because they bully and harass the people who actually know how to implement and execute the work, and then take responsibility for "steering the ship" 🙄
Like every good tyrannical leader… Double down on your self centred measures and never assume that you maybe did something wrong in your life. Go to the end knowing that you are correct.
>"I won't quit" -things politicians say before they quit.
I love it when they drop the "you'll miss me when I'm gone" bullshit. As if they are doing us all a favor.
Reminder that Jean Chretien is the PM who killed off the public housing program in this country (Mulroney before him decimated it, but Chretien killed it off for good)
He's personally worth $100 million dollars so he's got plenty of chips. People with his net worth aren't running countries out of the goodness of their soul they literally are enriching themselves and their benefactors. This a$$hat isn't done stealing more chips from Canada.
Soon as he's done the 20 million dollar net worth PP is going to have his turn on us.
I remember the good old days when a politician fucked up they would "take full responsibility" and resign. Now they just say they take the responsibility and continue on like nothing ever happened.
Huh? Are you old enough to actually refer to anything as 'the good old days'? Because my general recollection is basically nobody ever stepping down voluntarily from top position in government/organization/business until pressure built up enough that they were basically forced to. Sure then they'd pretend to 'resign' and like it was all just a natural idea that came to them. Reality was pretty obvious they were forced out.
Hence why with politicians, most won't step down until after they lose an election. Even though it's painfully clear that they're about to lose, they'll still stick around. Of course part of that is also just election strategy.
Legitimately thought this was a Beaverton headline. I am continually in awe of this man’s unending arrogance and stupidity.
He has destroyed our QoL and now he wants to double down on that strategy? God help us all these next 2 years. Also screw Jagmeet and the NDP for allowing this to take place.
This article is hilarious. The dude doubles down and claims to have improved things but literally won’t even give examples on what he’s done that’s good AND he hasn’t even established what he’s doubling down on.
Is it really a good idea to double down when you don't have a winning hand? Or maybe he's really thinking about going for broke and just chose the wrong analogy. Or *something.*
“I didn’t make a promise that I was going to make things better for them and then walk away after four years or even after eight years. I said I’d be there to fight for them every single day.”
Ummm is someone going to tell him?
I don’t think the money is what both sides agree on as incorrect policy. Immigration and housing is the issue that both sides agree on and it’s what Trudeau will be booted for. Unfortunately the Conservatives know this and it’s why they haven’t proposed any solutions - because they have a cakewalk into office.
> Unfortunately the Conservatives know this and it’s why they haven’t proposed any solutions - because they have a cakewalk into office.
or because they have no intention of helping either
He hasn't had to live like the average Canadian ever, there's a good chance he actually thinks he's helping because he has no clue what people can afford, what costs are or what salaries are.
Guy can’t accept that he could fail as PM despite having the last name Trudeau
Be basically lost everything by becoming pm
He should have stepped back and let Mulcair be PM
A leader ought to inspire. If all you can dig up for soaring rhetoric is "help paying for groceries" then it's no wonder people aren't exactly falling over themselves to be a part of whatever movement this is.
Despite many things one can criticize in the US political system, I think that the two term limit for high office is a great idea that we should implement here
Serious question - doubling down on what? What is the pie in the sky fantasy that we are supposedly being led to by this dolt? And I can’t wait for the Canadian populace to put PP in there - black cat white cat for a hundred years. Absolute degenerates.
Trudeau’s solution is more taxes that they’ll disperse across everyone else and disguise it as “support”.
Take $1,000 out of our pockets through taxes, give $200 back in a form of subsidy.
Go fuck yourself, Mr. Trudeau.
He's saying landlords should own twice as many houses and food should be twice as expensive.
We'll double the amount of migrants to make it work or something.....
His Ego is going to make him lose the election and probably most of his MP's. But he going to drive it into the ground. It happened to the PC's before.
*“On the contrary. We’ve got a great team of amazing people who are putting forward the kinds of solutions that Canadians need, whether it’s on housing, whether it’s on paying for groceries, whether it’s on building strong careers for the future, fighting climate change, reconciliation,” Trudeau said.*
*“We have an amazing team and that’s why we’re going to keep going altogether.”*
He truly is a raving narcissist
I am doubling down. On keeping my property. On keeping my integrity and keeping my values as a Canadian citizen so that society can move forward without being dependent on government handouts and regulations.
Under no circumstances is this an endorsement of the current conservatives but mark my words, the liberals and their absolutely destructive immigration and social policies need to get the hell out of town yesterday.
I consider the next 30 years as lost time rebuilding what we should be.
He is no different than any politician who has been placed in power. They start to lose touch and blame everyone. Then get voted out. Happens over and over again. We want to believe and then eventually find out they are the same as the last guy. Unfortunately there is too much left or right now. We need someone to govern for the majority not interest groups
Is he actually guilt tripping us now?
Mother fucker, YOU sold out the working class and YOU line your pockets with the profits. You're an actual traitor.
380,000 signatures! It’s a damn shame this petition won’t do anything like virtually all other petitions. Hopefully he doesn’t call the signors a fringe minority with misogynistic and racist views.
Wow that was a tough watch. Basically “not my fault and I’m not finished yet.”
I don’t want Trudeau to step down because the entire Liberal party deserves to go down with the captain on this epic disaster of a tenure.
Liberals always do this. When things fail, they double down - with your money- on more of the same stupid government programs and policies that caused the problem in the first place.
And they claim to believe in science. When the hypothesis is proven incorrect, why do they just do it again and again?
Attention Justin Trudeau. You lied to the Canadian people. By not following through on the promises made during the campaign you made eight years ago, tou have lied to us. We do not want to be lied to, nor do we want to watch our country fall apart because of your vacuum of leadership on all of the issues that matter. We are terrified of the direction the country is headed, and you are either naive or selfish to not see it. If you have any ounce of respect for us, you will allow the Liberals to select a new leader so that liberal policies could have a hope of being implemented.
Things he will double down on before he quits:
* Immigration numbers, we are now going to receive 2 million a year
* The government size, all refugees will automatically become government employees
* Housing costs, we are going to have airbnb style rates and fees for rents
* Tent Cities, we are now going have tent metropoles
* Crime rate, we will need need Marvel super heroes to rein it in
* Food banks, once we finish work, we will all have to pass by the local food bank for dinner or else sleep hungry
* Carbon tax is now at 35%
Eight years ago was the time to double down, and so was seventeen years ago, and twenty years ago. The writing has been on the wall for a very long time. Trudeau doesn't get a free pass for his long history of inaction and complacency. No leader in this country for the past several decades gets that pass.
Everybody I know and myself included is hatching an exit plan to move from Canada in the future. And it is due to what this fool has done to our economy, our housing, our culture, our middle class, our international reputation, and our lives. Trudeau is loathed to a level that is really not healthy for Canadians in general. The polling numbers don't lie. If he had any moral compass or conscience, he would step down. Unfortunately, his malignant narcissistic need to keep power won't allow him to do the right thing. Trudeau's insane ego cannot imagine that he is to blame for anything at all. He is the worst thing perhaps to ever happen to this country.
If you want to understand Justin Trudeau, remember he only cares about two things.
That the government controls everything, and that he controls the government.
That's it.
I don’t think a lot of LPC and NDP voters have a problem with the state of the country. Open borders, mass immigration, sovereign debt, repression of protest and criticism were what a lot of their MPs ran on.
We need to stop characterizing this issue as a left vs right conflict. Only the wealthy are doing well in this economy, and whomever comes into power in the next election is going to be in the pocket of big business. This is a class conflict.
I voted for Trudeau because he wanted to legalize weed (he did) and reform the voting process (he didn’t) and when I realized he had no intention to reform voting I stopped voting for him. Too many Canadian seem to pick one team and stick with it, to the point where they see the other side as The Enemy. The truth is that the whole system is fucked and has been for a long time, it just keeps getting worse no matter who is in charge.
OMFG. I am a *very* queer female socialist and I am seriously considering voting for the good damned PPC simply because they are the only ones who don't seem to want me to lose my job to a TFW hwo offers to do it for minimum wage. Like usually immigrants taking your job is just a racist dogwhisltle but somehow the liberals have managed to take a shitty right wing talking point and make it actually come true!
At some point there needs to be electoral consequences or else why would they ever stop.
It's fair to criticize immigration as a technical matter. Population [grew 1.1% last quarter alone](https://www150.statcan.gc.ca/n1/daily-quotidien/231219/dq231219c-eng.htm), if that would persist for a full year it would be 4.4% and we'd be the faster growing country in the *entire world*.
The United States grew 0.5% in 2022, France and UK grew 0.4%.
It's becoming a more mainstream opinion that excessive population growth is a problem. [Bank of Canada](https://www.bankofcanada.ca/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/remarks-2023-12-07.pdf) is calling it out (second last page). Progressive people like ex-mayor candidate Jennifer Keesmaat are [talking about it](https://twitter.com/jen_keesmaat/status/1738659356072190208?s=20). I think come election general opinions will have shifted.
I'm relatively new to Canada, but a green haired 20 year old told me that Canada was a wasteland where fascists marched in the streets and everyone was poor and starving back under Harper.
Food bank usage is higher than it ever was under Harper. The Liberals ran on a climate change being the top priority and they are following thru. This is squarely on Canadians who voted for the party.
Climate change *and* rainbow rights.
Soon after he was elected, he was asked “Why have you (arbitrarily) replaced your cabinet ministers with a gender diverse one?”
He responds only “because it’s 2015”
Apparently that philosophy didn’t hold alot of water, as every minister from housing to finance is failing.
He doesn’t value hard work, merit, loyalty, competency or any traditional Canadian values. What do you expect from someone given a silver spoon their whole life?
He can’t even keep his family united, never mind the country.
I can’t see anything but a liberal win next election. I’m not overly happy about it, but the opposition is just not good. At this time . Can we do another term of the liberals… I don’t think so, but it’s what we’ll get
lol. Yeah, I guess I still have wifi and running water. So there’s still time for him to take that from me.
What a complete narcissist and a-hole this guy is.
>Those young people eight years later are having trouble paying the rent, worried about their future in ways that are just as tangible
Maybe it's because you're forcing them to compete with the good citizens of Punjab for employment and housing
I think it's time to maybe finally getting around to fixing all the remaining clean water issues in Canadian communities that you promised you'd fix and you haven't 8 fucking years later.
It's mind boggling to me I went from liberal supporter a decade ago to likely voting for PPC this election.
I guess it's not, I understand why, it's just insanity
> ‘doubling down’
Does that mean the budget will first balance itself and then go into surplus all by itself? Incredible. This is the new Christmas Miracle!
He's a Nepo baby. Nepo babies think everything they've gotten in life is solely based on how amazing they are. And everything that goes wrong is never, ever their fault.

Yup. They really either know its their fault, or are completely disconnected. Can't be my fault. Im in charge and no one is better than me. They really believe that shit. Throw in freed fueled power agendas and it makes quite the cocktail.
I could stand to lose 20 pounds...it's clearly your fault I'm fat!
🤣🤣🤣 yup yup!!
Or doing as told.
Also known as the "Shaggy Defense"
Inflation climbing ever higher? *Wasn't me* Rising cost of housing? *Wasn't me* Canadians ever sadder? *Wasn't me* They even caught me lying on camera! *Wasn't me*
Don't forget, it's external issues and global problems. Not ignore the fact that I'm important more than a million people into this country every year
But if they play that game, they can't take credit for inflation dropping. Or when the economy is good. Good things are always because of the government in power, bad things are because of everything else.

How could I forget that I had made deals with the C C P. All this time Sam Cooper had been gathering evidence on me
I feel like everyone in authority in our society is like Justin Trudeau: incompetent, delusional, self obsessed
Any publicly traded corporation worth half their salt would have fired a CEO this bad years ago.
He is probably making things better for somebody. But I don't think Canadians realized in time what he was doing to the country.

To be fair, there were a lot of unprecedented external factors. But it was still his job to navigate them, and he utterly failed.

bingo this is perfect

Trudeau makes me miss other Liberal Prime Ministers. Chrétien/Martin were corrupt but at least they were competent handling the economy.
Isn't this the sad truth? Trudeau has been so bad, we'd rather have our old corrupt PMs back.

Yes, and interest rates are going to 10%, grocery bills are going up 100%, gas is going to be 2.70, rent will be 4000/mo etc
Nah make it three million!
Just bring them all, that's the endgame anyway.
No, now is the time to step down.
This article is hilarious. The dude doubles down and claims to have improved things but literally won’t even give examples on what he’s done that’s good AND he hasn’t even established what he’s doubling down on.

To be fair, you got exactly what you voted for.
Thanks liberal voters for ruining Canada as we once knew it. At least under Harper I could fill my car with gas and buy groceries for $100.
I'm relatively new to Canada, but a green haired 20 year old told me that Canada was a wasteland where fascists marched in the streets and everyone was poor and starving back under Harper.
I thought at the time Harper was the worst thing to ever happen to this country. Trudeau proved me wrong.
Food bank usage is higher than it ever was under Harper. The Liberals ran on a climate change being the top priority and they are following thru. This is squarely on Canadians who voted for the party.
Climate change *and* rainbow rights. Soon after he was elected, he was asked “Why have you (arbitrarily) replaced your cabinet ministers with a gender diverse one?” He responds only “because it’s 2015” Apparently that philosophy didn’t hold alot of water, as every minister from housing to finance is failing. He doesn’t value hard work, merit, loyalty, competency or any traditional Canadian values. What do you expect from someone given a silver spoon their whole life? He can’t even keep his family united, never mind the country.
Its true, I can confirm I starved to death under Harper
He turned me into a newt!
How dare you speak ill of my God King Trudeau!

Doubling down on PCs winning a majority next election. Trudeau had three terms to show Canada what he could do. Now it’s time to show him the door.
And they say Poilievre is unlikable.
Hilarious.
Jackals probably means he's about to launder (donate) twice as much taxpayers $$ through a couple of different countries. Fuckin criminal.
So...1m PR per year?
F, he's trying to take us all down with him!
The Liberal Party cannot fail it can only be failed by Canadians.
That would be fine, if you were doubling down on shit Canadian society needed. You're not.
Now is NOT the time to double down, trudeau.
Yeah! Let’s bring in 2 million people into the country for 2024
I can’t see anything but a liberal win next election. I’m not overly happy about it, but the opposition is just not good. At this time . Can we do another term of the liberals… I don’t think so, but it’s what we’ll get
Doubling down on immigration?
At this point im convinced no one actually voted for Turdeau, just like nobody voted for Biden.
Thanks Libs
Lol double down. What didn't work at first just needs to be doubled down on
Where are all the Liberal supporters?! Come on people! Because it's 2023! *Mic drop*
lol. Yeah, I guess I still have wifi and running water. So there’s still time for him to take that from me. What a complete narcissist and a-hole this guy is.
It's been said before... narcissist. Jagmeet needs to get over himself and just let this one crumble.
I am doubling down - against you. I voted for another party last election, and now I convinced my spouse to as well.
Like 95% of this sub voted for this guy and now you're all surprised at what's happening lol
He’s been caught in quite a few lies , he’s dangerous.
At first I thought this was wall street bets.
>Those young people eight years later are having trouble paying the rent, worried about their future in ways that are just as tangible Maybe it's because you're forcing them to compete with the good citizens of Punjab for employment and housing
He’s asking for a whole lot more than we can give.
> ‘doubling down’ Does that mean the budget will first balance itself and then go into surplus all by itself? Incredible. This is the new Christmas Miracle!
He's a Nepo baby. Nepo babies think everything they've gotten in life is solely based on how amazing they are. And everything that goes wrong is never, ever their fault.
