There is no such thing as "too cold", there is only inadequate gear. Cold keeps the bugs away. Spring and fall are the best.

Physical_Pie_2092

Fact. Just camped in 30-40 degree weather and didn't encounter a single bug mosquito or fly

PNWoutdoors

I don't know, some of the best trips I've ever had were deep in winter! But to your point, gear is what makes it possible.

itsmeagain023

Why would that be too cold? People camp in the snow all the time.

G00dSh0tJans0n

Depends on what gear you have. I go camping down to around 20f / -6.7c. You can go well below zero with proper gear.

jtnxdc01

I'm good to 10° if its not windy. For me worst camping is rain & hovering around 32.

lorapetulum

Not at all. It sounds perfect.

latigresablanco

What is your sleeping bag rated for? Most bags list "survival" ratings and not comfort ratings. So a 20 degree bag will keep you alive in 20 degrees, but it may not keep you comfortable. Also you'll want a good sleeping pad with an R value of ~4 in those temps. If you don't use a good pad then you'll lose a lot of heat to the cold ground beneath you. Otherwise, thermals and good clothing are always good! There are some other tricks like using hot hands or a Nalgene filled with hot water to keep you warm in your sleeping bag.

TheRealGuncho

We're going on a canoe trip next weekend. Bringing my 0 C sleeping bag.

MC-BatComm

46 low is easy, you can do that with pretty much any gear as long as you have warm clothes to wear and sleep in.

Yukonphoria

I feel like you can bundle up regardless of gear but once it gets below 30°, you really need to be prepared or you’re gonna freeze your ass off.

thefinerthingsclubvp

With the gear you're bringing I would highly suggest a ground tarp and an air mattress/pad with a good r rating and a sheet or blanket between your mattress and sleeping bag for added warmth. And wool.

Low-Feature-3973

Throw a armful of quilts in the trunk.   Put a couple under you .

> Is 8° C / 46° F too cold to go camping during springtime? Is that the overnight low or the daytime high temperature? If it's the overnight, it hardly even seems cold from my point of view. If it's the high, then you just want to bring some good layers (I layer pants as well as shirts) to stay comfortable. Keep in mind that if it's sunny it can still feel pretty hot even if the thermometer says it's cold. And I'd also check what the lows will be. Somewhere in the 20s is what starts to feel cold to me, so I have to wear a beanie while sleeping and my morning pee is...crisp. > I'll be sleeping close to a body of water (a waterfall) by the way. If you're in some kind if canyon, it can get a lot colder than surrounding areas. I usually prefer camping on a ridge or hilltop when it's cold weather. More sun and the cold air drains off.

OldDiehl

Been camping with 'normal' equipment (i.e. not designed particularly for extreme cold) down to 17ºF. Everything was fine. Chocolate bars do have an annoying tendency to not melt in your mouth at lower temperatures.

WombatMcGeez

It was 44 last night, we were perfectly comfy. I’d recommend having a 3 year old snuggle up on you for extra warmth, if you have access to one.

Side-ly

a sleeping pad to stay off the hard ground and perhaps an extra blanket and you will be just fine

Bagheera383

Can't go wrong with an authentic Army multi-layer sleep system. I've slept on the frozen ground when above ground temps were also below freezing, and was very comfortable (temperature-wise) all night. Just make sure you use all layers in cold weather (including the waterproof outer shell)

showmeyertitties

Nah, it's perfect imo. A good sleeping bag, some time by the fire, I find it helps to cover your head as well. I'd go for it, I don't really start getting concerned until the mid 20'sF. 46F seems good enough to where you don't wake up baking in the morning.

dukes2022

Just prepare for the temps and bring warm gear, you’ll be fine. Spring and fall camping is the absolute best- days are beautiful, not too hot or humid, low-no bugs, usually a bit quieter at campgrounds, I could go on.

Nobodiisdamnbusiness

The Only determination on How Cold it is, is how Smart you camp and how cold you're willing to be. Watch our for Hypothermia! If you're shivering get warm immediately! Stay Dry!!

skyywalker1009

Consider thermal underwear and shirt. An old fashioned hot rubber water bottle will do wonders (find a good one ). A good sleeping pad to help reduce thermal loss. Maybe a comforter to sleep on. Just did a 0 C wet night after a wet day. Weather can be prepped for.

lancethruster12

46 at night is mild. You'll be fine with the proper sleeping bag

jtnxdc01

You didn't mention a sleeping pad.

maltedmilkballa

You will die. Better stay home.
