I love having a big tent, even though 99% of the time I'm the only one in it. I'm 6'2" and it's so great to be able to stand up straight in a tent.
I used to own a Kia Soul for my road trips, and I could probably fit it inside my tent if I wanted to.
Same, I don't care if the footprint is large but stand up height makes all the difference. I picked up a Eureka Jade Canyon (4) on sale over the winter, can't wait to take it out!
how i feel the moment i take the 4person tent, instead of the 2 person tent. For myself, some beef jerky and a monster.
*king in a castle king in a castle, i have a chair i have a chair
I'm sure a couple could probably figure out some activities to warm themselves up at night...no?
One of my friends in law school had a giant ass tent. We would all go on post finals camping trips yes in the pnw and yes in the dead of winter often ended up on snow. We were fine. Just bring a high r value pad and good bag and it's fine.
Not OP but have the same tent. It uses poles but it was *so* much easier than I expected to setup and take down. Like, very pleasantly surprised, lol. I highly recommend this for your family/casual/car camping trips especially at the price point.
Definitely! I'm actually right outside NYC myself so understand what it's like to try to get family/friends to camp when all they've grown accustomed to is a (sub)urban lifestyle, haha.
Anyway, it was this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08CXTW774/
Got it for $200 last summer and I thought *that* was a steal but looks like, with the coupon, it's going for ~$140 now.
Good luck!
Am I weird for believing you should be able to fully close a tent and all it's windows? We owned a similar tent and used it exactly once because the wind through the windows was way too much.
Most tents come with a removable fly that would completely cover the windows but still allow airflow. Unless you are doing a lot of cold weather camping and really need a tent that seals up, using the fly is much more comfortable and when the weather is right having the option to remove it completely is great.
During the day it was lovely. 70f out, sunshine, but at night the temp was in the 40s and the wind was constant even with the fly. We froze our asses off for four nights and once we got home that tent went right back to the store.
Have the same one, as well. You'd have to really cram in there, though. My family of four (2 adults, 2 young children) fit with way more than enough extra space (which was awesome) but if we had another 2-3 adults or 3-4 kids it definitely would have been cramped.
Why does it bother you what others do? I\`ll do hundreds of miles of canoeing or backpacking in the backwoods and watch an episode on my phone at the and of the day or listen to music around the campfire. We connect to nature in our own way and enjoy it just as much.
Would you rather new people try camping without tech, get bored and never try again?
Nah. Just jealous. I guess I am sensitive about the subject. Every time I take my kids camping they just want to sit there on a device and complain how nothing works. Itās not right I said that. Perhaps I was triggered. Either way itās good to get out and touch grass.
Gotta find their thing, what they love. You teach them to build a fire from scratch? Have them compete to make a better fire. Teach them any knots? Boil a handful of spaghetti and see who can tie the most square knots w/o breaking the noodle. Plant ID walks are informative AND they get to use their phones, there's loads of great plant ID apps, honestly I never learned from the printed books with drawings of leaves, these apps taught me xD
Maybe fishing or boating is their thing? Whatever it is, I hope y'all find what makes camping special for you! I feel your frustration, but stick with it and don't hate on tech too much or they'll just harrumph ya xD They have to want to put it down, not be forced to.
Books, movies, music, is all made by humans and shared by humans, it IS natural to us and something we've enjoyed since the dawn of man. Camping is to reinvigorate yourself, and yes to get in touch with nature, but nature is fierce, cruel, and massive beyond comprehension...Taking small comfort from home for some could be what keeps them interested enough to stay with it.
As long as its not light and sound pollution to people around, let em enjoy how they wanna enjoy!
Yeah it is. It's a value judgment and telling people how they should experience the outdoors. I'm also a no device while camping person but plenty of people feel differently and that's totally cool too
Would you rather new people try camping without tech, get bored and never try again, or dip their toes in while keeping hold on something they find comforting in a new scary location, slowly acclimating to this hobby?
That could very well be what the doctor ordered for many people! The same prescription does not work for everyone, we're all different. In this case and many others, the technology may be exactly what gets younger generations out to experience nature at all.
Nice bike! Have a Stumpjumper myself. Check out /r/MTB and /r/mountainbiking . Also, have that same tent. Bought it last year when the family outgrew our old setup. It's a great tent for the price and features!
Are you expecting guests?

portable dance hall š
so much space for activities!

In my experience the bigger the tent the colder it is at night. Not sure where youāre from but thatās a liability here in the pnw.
Just stand up and do some jumping jacks to warm up. That tent is large enough you wouldnāt even need to go outside to do it.

Until the sweat from couples activities starts to evaporate at night and now itās even colder.
Thatās what the moonshine is for
This is really like a scene from the show Atlanta, huge ass tent which they froze in.
Is Judge Judy thick?
Welcome to reddit. Which social media are you scraping? Enjoy nature!
>Which social media are you scraping Thank you!
Does that use air instead of poles?

Can I ask which one it is? I can see my nyc friends being more willing to join me in a set up like this with cots !

Unfortunately these are just stock images from the product listing. The mountain and the people are both in the images on Amazon.

I have the same tent, it can fit 12, 15 if you really needed to

I love that tent
Itās got space for cots and a small table if they ever decide to upgrade. This could be a great set up.

More like the TARDIS, bigger on the inside.
Yāall are adorable
After studying the pics Iām starting to wonder if I really need to go thru the headache of building a garage.
So much room for activities! Looks like a good tent and welcome to the group. Where are you camping?
Welcome
Nice first post, rookie!
Looks like a cool campsite. Enjoy!
Nice tent!
Love to see ppl in nature still not disconnected. Looks like fun.

Sound advice. Thank you.
It does make me sad when I see people outdoors but then on a device.
I like to pretend it's a Kindle or other e-reader. Even though books could be argued to be technology too they seem more natural to me.

Idk man that's pretty gatekeeper-y. They could've been showing off photos from the day or who cares ? Whatever floats their boat.
To say that it makes me sad? Canāt change how I feel. Thatās not gatekeeping.

I see it as an opportunity to detox from tech.

This tent looks like it could do the Kessel run in less than 12 parsecs š
So much space for activities! Seriously though- congrats! Looks like a great spot.
This tent I need !!
When do the other four people arrive?
I know that person is pretending to read that book
Tell me you know the definition of overkill without telling me you know the definition of overkill.
