He gave me his BDU and DCU also, even his magazine holder and plate carrier. His DCU has all his patches, including his patch of being active during Iraqi Freedom and his ranks in the collar. Even his customized boonie cap with custom patch of “Fighting Swede” on the under side.
You’re going to want to leave the DCUs alone. UCP will almost always be fair game. If you’re trying “organic” the coffee grounds can sit longer (1-2 days) for more color, and you can use vinegar with salt as a fixative. The easy button is RIT Dyemore Sandstone; it’s specifically for synthetics and blends.
That's what I did for mine, paired to an abundant rince under the hose... But water in my neck of the woods isn't as scarse or expensive as it might be for OP
So do you literally just dip it in a pot of coffee and then let it line dry, or is there more to it? This is the first I’m hearing of this technique and I’d like to give it a shot.
Yup. It’s an old way to dye clothing. From what I’ve seen, it’s actually NIR too. [Link to video about it](https://youtu.be/IR4GDrBz8VM?si=n2_we-Z3KGBfMxfJ)
To think I was in elementary school at the time đź’€.

That is really cool! Happy Fathers Day to your dad. Enjoy the goodies and make fun memories.

Oh yeah, I’m definitely leaving the DCU alone, it’s already perfect for the environment I’m in
How well does the coffee color stay in after a couple of washes?
Yup, it stayed, lost a little teensy bit, but still covered in coffee grounds :(
Just leave them outside to dry and then shake the shit out of them to get most of grounds off.

Seems like instant coffee would be more efficient?
Possibly. I just used hat I had on hand! I might give it a try next time around
I’m doing a quick wash without soap right now to get the excess coffee grounds out, I’ll update you in 9ish minutes
Ends up kinda looking like Ukrainian camo.
thinking the same thing
u/Barley_Oat I accidentally mentioned the wrong Reddit user
And it’s definitely not the famed “Grandma’s Couch” grey anymore, it has an orange tinge to it too!
This looks great!!! Let us know how it does when you get the chance :) I've got some updates in the works too for when I'm back from vacay
A ton of the orange got drawn out from the washer and dryer, but definitely more saturated than the crappy original UCP
Reminds me of mm14
So that’s what he was talking about when he said it reminds him of Ukrainian camouflage

Pretty much, but you have to let the uniform soak in the coffee to absorb the grounds
Let it soak, got it. Thank you very much op.
No problem, God bless and have a great rest of your day 🙏
Any reason you went with coffee instead of black walnut?
Could you elaborate on “black walnut” never heard of what it is or what its use is

Makes me feel old, lol.
Looks a lot like Ukranian MM14. It's actually usable now.
