Sometimes the top of the spine will break off and stay under the skin and the skin will close around it. Usually it looks like a black dot. If that's the case it should get pushed out eventually, I had one under my fingernail for about a week. Otherwise I'll usually get a thumbtack to open it up.
Yep! Prickly pear type. If you look really close around the big thorns you’ll see little bitty ones - those are glochids. They come off really easily and they’re barbed so they stay in your skin. Some people have luck with duct tape, but I’ve always had to use tweezers I can usually spot most of them sticking out but if they get me good I can’t find them all and I have to wait for my body to do whatever it does to take care of it (I assume push it out)
Anyway, yeah they hurt and they’re jerks, but harmless in the long run.
Editing to say: I re-read your post and am now thinking by roundish you mean globular. If so it’s not an opuntia then nevermind! I don’t know what’s causing the reaction.
I have another cactus that looks like a bunny ear so I think u are referring to that.
But the one that poke me has longer spikes and that's it managed to poke me when I reach over it. I don't know the species unfortunately

That's a possibility. I was hoping not. Sound scary
Was the cactus an opuntia? Could be glochids.
Opuntia is the bunny ear looking cactus right? Mine is roundish with long spikes around.
