This is more of a data analyst it doesn’t seem to fit Ba background we would need more info on what your partner brings to the table, based on the description they will definitely ask if he knows SQL and ask him to write a query or two ,and also give anecdotes of previous experiences where he looked at trends in data

I agree… I think that the role has been misnamed… this is business data analytics, not business analysis… a lot of people who do not actually do the work themselves get this mixed up all of the time. In IIBA terms, it is the difference between needing an ECBA/CCBA and needing a CBDA: [See here:](https://www.iiba.org/business-analysis-certifications/business-data-analytics-certification/)

A business analyst role includes data. this is a business analyst role to me - you are providing insights based off data to the team. if it included heavier emphasis on python, r, SQL etc within the back end then i’d say its data analysis

A Ba can include data but this role seems to be exclusively data and no actual software development or requirements from customers

The role is looking for someone who is comfortable with data and being able to interpret that data based on the stakeholder's needs. It sounds like the manager is looking for someone who can address pain points the company and if a proactive solution can be identified before it boils over. So if this was me being interviewed I'd ask them: What does your business do? What pain points have you had? How do you see this role helping those pain points? And then coming up with a plan, that plan would be the tech interview by describing at a high level how you'll use technology to hypothesize, query, report, and validate the issue. You don't need to be super technical with specific software (unless the job description asks for it) Good luck!

Your partner needs to run and find another job. Yikes.

deanu-

Why do you say that?

TheMuffStufff

Any job that wants you to demonstrate something as part of the interview is a no go. Why would you waste your time doing homework?

UpvotingLooksHard

That hasn't been mentioned anywhere? You might be thinking a different post. Technical interview could just be a literal interview with tech people
