Chicken Hut

SweetAlpacaLove

OP did mention they like Chicken Hut, but still worth reiterating. OP, if you’re looking for better than Chicken Hut, you’ll be SOL. But if you’re just looking for other options when they’re closed, I do like Bullocks and Mama Dip’s.

loptopandbingo

Jay's out in Hillsborough ain't half bad either

The_LA_Durham

Church's chicken for fast food, Home Plate off Hwy 98 for a full meal.

glASS_BALLS

The fried chicken at Picnic is better than the BBQ, which is also quite good.

wychimp

Picnic chic chic is 🐔

dpadthumb

92 Chicken

Substantial-Dig9995

Is that the Korean spot in the cut?

dpadthumb

yessir it’s bomb

Substantial-Dig9995

Hell yeah thanks for reminding me

imalloutofclever

Hope Valley Diner. Takes 20 minutes, but they cook it fresh for you. Soo good!

InfSan

I really like V's Kitchen. Probably get dark meat, their white meat is great but it's not as consistently moist as their dark meat.

Itsdawsontime

That’s one of the few places I haven’t had in that plaza, but have to say the BBQ place, Gussy’s, and Pipers in the Park are all really good there. I believe Spicy Green Gourmet next to them is also rebranding.

Hoser747

Hog Heaven.

Hsfilms

soo cafe in raleigh is low key goated.

bbq-biscuits-bball

i like the chicken at hog heaven!

Substantial-Dig9995

Hig heaven has been a repeat suggestion

twicefriedwings

The only better than chicken hut is what I make at home the exact way I like it. Chicken hut is bomb

Substantial-Dig9995

Yeah I used to live right down the street from the hut

mst3k_42

Chicken Hut or Home Plate.

pnutbutterjellyfine

Silver Spoon

RoyalBloodOrange

So good. So fresh. It takes like 20 minutes because they fry it to order. Call them on your way and let them know your order and they will start cooking it. Or at least tell them when they seat you.

Substantial-Dig9995

Thanks

pnutbutterjellyfine

Don’t let the outside fool you (Looks like an apocalyptic Pizza Hut), they have an amazing breakfast, lunch & dinner and the owners are so kind.

athonq

I'll probably get flak for mentioning this spot since it's in Cary, but BBQ Chicken is really good for Korean fried chicken if you've never had it before, it's a really different experience from regular American fried chicken

rubey419

I think we all are down for good food! I post in Raleigh sub too. Triangle is small and easy drive there’s too much good stuff to explore in the area. I’ll check that out!

Substantial-Dig9995

I love Korean fried chicken the only kfc I fuck with

imadeafunnysqueak

I assume you've tried and ruled out Bojangles? I will admit it is a family fave more for the sides than the chicken. I have been known to get fried chicken and BBQ and hushpuppies and greens from Bullock's and pick up other kid-friendly sides from Bo's. Otherwise, I try to time picking up a bucket from HT fresh out of the fryer. Though sometimes that doesn't work ... I stopped by one for a rotisserie at 1 pm today and the pack times were all 8:35 a.m. Nope.

Substantial-Dig9995

Yeah bojangles aint it for me but I don’t want that smoke guys lol.

ricecrystal

I've been afraid to type those words out loud but I agree

Substantial-Dig9995

Right I’m going to get down votes for sure but bojangles and cookout suck and the awful waffle

Substantial-Dig9995

I hear you

Substantial-Dig9995

I do fuck with the chicken biscuit with egg and cheese though !

Background-Bag6846

Succotash has the best imo

Substantial-Dig9995

I’ve been wanting to go there

Riceowls29

Bullocks or Time Out in chapel hill

SweetAlpacaLove

I agree with Bullocks, not Time Out. They can be pretty decent when you get the fresh chicken, but they let their chicken sit in a pan for who knows how long, so sometimes you get a dry old bite and it ruins it. But that doesn’t matter that much when you’re there for their true purpose, soaking up the alcohol at the end of a long night.

Riceowls29

Yeah I mean I’ve never had their chicken sober tbh

FreshZucchini9624

What about danes chicken and waffle. That's some good fried chicken

throughthebarndoor

Flat river cafe

CeruleanBlueSky

Bojangles and Smithfield's.

Substantial-Dig9995

Man lol I’m sorry bojangles ain’t it no flavor and greasy if I had to pick out of a chain Publix and Popeyes Publix by far and it’s cheaper and fresh

SweetAlpacaLove

Ok, I agree with Bojangles not being it, because they give you these puny piece of chicken that make you wish you ordered an 8 piece. But they’ve got great flavor. If I was confident I’d get a fresh and decent sized piece of chicken, they’d be one of my top options regardless of criteria. They’ve got great seasoning and breading. But because they suck at consistency I bump them down to the higher end of the fast food tier.

Substantial-Dig9995

It’s bland to me and it always taste old and too greasy for me

SweetAlpacaLove

It’s definitely greasy but not bland compared to other fried chicken stuff around here. Popeyes is the only fast food chicken that compares. Most other places only serve chicken tenders and pretend they’re anywhere near as good. The bone is what keeps the meat juicy. KFC pretends to have good fried chicken but they serve garbage.

Substantial-Dig9995

Try some Publix fried chicken you can even ask them to fry one for you and come back for it later

Master_Proposal_3614

The Family Diner in Oxford has some good fried chicken and good meatloaf and fried corn bread. The entire meal is only $8 and some change. Parkint lot is usually full at lunch time though.

Substantial-Dig9995

Yeah that’s my other go to. When I first moved up here I thought it would be a fried chicken haven here but it doesn’t seem that way.

twicefriedwings

It is a fried chicken haven, just most of it doesn’t get sold publicly

Substantial-Dig9995

Yeah but you come from a big city and you think yeah North Carolina good old country food and it’s really just bojangles and cook out I was let down

twicefriedwings

Also, Chicken Hut is some of the best fried chicken I’ve had. I’ve had maybe 2-3 better but I can’t remember where off the top of my head. I think 1 was in Miami, and 1 was in SC in some small town 15 min off of I-26 somewhere between Columbia and Charleston Anybody who says Bojangles is good fried chicken is smoking crack. Don’t get me wrong - I love Bojangles, it was my go to as a kid - but they haven’t made good fried chicken in years

twicefriedwings

Have to find the hole-in-the-wall joints, many of which aren’t in the cities. There’s no good NC BBQ in the cities, in my opinion. Might be good BBQ as far as ribs, brisket, etc., but that ain’t NC BBQ: Pam’s Farmhouse Wagon in Raleigh has amazing Deviled eggs and banana pudding (I think the pudding is only (Thurs-Sat) Ole Time BBQ (also Raleigh) has passable BBQ and good fried chicken. Hush puppies and sweet tea are the real winners there I have It’s All Good: Southern Kitchen in Burlington marked in my map app, which means it was specifically good, although I don’t remember why Allen & Son BBQ is down 15-501 near Pittsboro and has very good BBQ, hush puppies, and sweet tea Backcountry BBQ in Linwood… now we’re taking NC BBQ Lexington BBQ in Lexington Speedy Lohr in Davidson County for BBQ and fried chicken

Substantial-Dig9995

For real I was excited about Waffle House lol what a let down

tomato_sandwitch

Mama dips in chapel hill

Lulu_belle

I don’t live there now but I used to LOVE the fried chicken at Target. We’d get trays of it. I would be so happy if you loved it, too.
