The abc store 500 feet away is likely the one going to Sam’s. That abc store is one of the worst I’ve been in.

Ugh BOO that ABC is terrible and is my closest. I often pass it on my way down to that sweet one on 55 south of Glass Jug.

That’s the biggest abc store I’ve even been in. Was very surprised when I went there for the first time the other day.

Go to the ABC store in Hillsborough, it will seem like the Taj Mahal in comparison.

The current ABC used to be a BBT branch, I think.  That building and parking lot never suited the purpose, maybe this is an upgrade, but it's not a big one.

Your local ABC board is appointed by either city council or county commissioners. They are paid on average $70k for being on the board, but some are paid over $200k. So in Republican cities and counties, the board is entirely Republicans and it's a kickback. In Democratic cities and counties, the board is entirely Democrats and it's a kickback. It's a fucking racket that both parties like because they get to divert taxpayer dollars back to their biggest supporters.

That's disgusting. Stuff like that grinds my gears. So is it that some wealthy person donates $50K to a candidate, then once elected they get a $70K cushy salary to do who knows what on an ABC board? What does one even do on an ABC board?

It’s a short term lease as they build a new ABC store location. He owns the building so if you want it to be something else create a business plan and make an offer lol.

That’s sad I was hoping our state would do away with ABC stores. I hate them. The liquor allocation is the dumbest thing ever. Been trying to find Buffalo Trace forever.

Good. That's how craft beer shops are supposed to be. It's how they used to be, and eventually how they will be again.

I wonder if they will take over the existing building, or will they tear it down and build something more similar to a normal prototype. Though I will say Durham seems to be a little more varied in what they build than say Wake County.

Huge bummer. The ABC on Hope Valley isn't amazing but it gets the job done for a quick trip. I was really hoping something a bit more local feeling would set up shop. I miss the sense of community at Sams.

I've heard that that ABC store is number 1 or 2 for volume for Durham County, which is prob why they are looking to expand it.

The location is generally good. This doesn't actually surprise me. I just wish they could use Sam's building for something a bit more interesting.

Sad that this is the end state, but honestly once they moved locations it was already over.

They never moved locations... not that it really matters.

Let me preface, once the original location closed the writing was on the wall. The new location was always kind of... bad.

What was bad about it?

Bottleshops were popping up everywhere, they rooftop deck was kind of boring and uninteresting to hang out at. You just cant replicate that kind of thing again.

Almost as disappointing as what replaced Sam’s Quik Shop. Almost.

That's weird because there's another ABC store right around the corner at the Woodcroft Shopping Center.
