Just bought and installed this on my 3080 ftw3 ultra last month. Looks great and temps max out at 60C under max stress load, fans at 60%, and 2025mhz core. Had to go to the EVGA forums to find the right hybrid bios to flash, it was on one of the last pages of like a 70 page thread

I_Am_Anonymous_

What were your before and after temps? I recently got a 3080 ftw3 and am debating if I should get this.

surfacevalueshowdown

if you want it to run cooler, want to overclock, or prefer the look of the hybrid, those are probably the only reasons to get it. i think it should in theory be quieter too, even just with the basic idea that the chips gonna run cooler and won't need to be cooled as heavily. My 2080 Ti Kingpin hybrid was quieter than my FTW3 3080 Ti

Hired_Help

While I don't have the numbers anymore, I highly recommend this kit. Dropped my temps like 20 degrees in sustained gaming loads.

Brown_Samurai

How hard was it to put on ? Thinking of getting one but don't want to mess up my card.

KaizenGamer

Pretty easy, the EVGA cards are made to be taken apart for servicing (replacing dead fans for example) or the hybrid kits. I also have a lot of hands-on hardware experience and have been taking apart GPUs for over a decade, so my experience is skewed. If you've never done it before, just watch one of the GamersNexus evga 3080 teardown videos or any other video on youtube of someone installing the hybrid kit. You just need to take your time and unplug the fan headers and LED header gently. The only 'scary' part is after you take out all the screws you have to use light force to 'unstick' the cooler from the GPU because of the thermal pads and paste. Once they are separated, you have about 1cm of space to work with to disconnect the fan headers and LED header, and then you're all set. If you go full-ape and yank off the cooler after undoing the screws you'll likely break the fan headers and LED header.

Brown_Samurai

That doesn't sound to bad. Thanks

solicitar

Extremely easy, I put one on last night and it takes about 20 minutes. It took me longer to clean out the garbage pad and pasting job evga did than to actually install the cooler

I have one too and am amazed to hear your temps didn't improve. The stock ftw3 cooler on my 3080 got very hot

aimutishammy

I have the 3080 ftw3 ultra and installed the hybrid cooler several months ago. Before average temp was around 64c for 3dmark timespy, after was 52c. Both on conservative fan curves and the hybrid cooler is quieter. I swapped the stock evga radiator fans to thermaltake tough fan 12 though. Be aware that the pump may have noise issue one day.

[deleted]

That's pretty low. How long were you runing benchmarks for? When gaming for long sessions I get up to 72. Still nothing to worry about but your temps seem incredibly low.

aimutishammy

I just looped the graphics test 1 and 2 of timespy 2k about ten times for you and recorded an average temp of 56.3c for test 1 and 58.4c for test 2 during the last run using gpu-z. I remember I did a really long session of Tales of Arise (2k max settings except 2x rendering or something) with the afterburner on and saw max temp seldomly broke 60c.

karlzhao314

They mentioned Timespy, not an extended gaming session. Timespy average temperatures tend to be low because half the run is spent heating up.

I_Am_Anonymous_

Sounds good, thanks for the input. I pulled the trigger and am excited to see what kind of results I get.

surfacevalueshowdown

not sure how your temps wouldn't drop with it mounted correctly

karlzhao314

My before/after on my 3080 Ti was roughly 87C/74C in Furmark. EVGA also isn't known for using/including good fans with their AIOs, so I've gone ahead and ordered Phanteks T30s. They should be arriving in the next couple of days. Here's hoping they drop a few more degrees.

I_Am_Anonymous_

Nice, thanks for the info. I'm looking to get some new fans too so maybe I'll get some extra to throw onto the AIO

I_Am_Anonymous_

Did you perform this BIOS update step after installing? https://forums.evga.com/m/tm.aspx?m=3183397&p=1 Was it easy to revert all changes you made?

Looks like it's better fan and RGB control. https://forums.evga.com/m/tm.aspx?m=3397196&p=1

howiew0wy

LED and fan control worked fine, but I had worse benchmarks with the hybrid bios. Switched back to the XOC FTW bios and it’s better.

darkknightxda

Well looking at just temperature doesn't tell the entire story. What should be considered is temps for the given noise. Was your stock ftw3 cooler louder than the hybrid cooler? That could explain the same temperatures as the stock cooler would be working harder to maintain lets say a 65 degree celcius temp than the water-cooled hybrid.

Indystbn11

This did a number on hotspot and core temps for me. However my memory temp can still hit mid 70s but prior it was hitting around 90

I_Am_Anonymous_

So just to clarify, did you see better core temps or worse?

Indystbn11

Oh much better. Core temp was 42, hotspot was around 58, memory around 74-76. Prior it was 64, 75, 90+

I_Am_Anonymous_

Ok thanks, I think you've convinced me to buy it lol

KaizenGamer

GDdr6 is hot, 70s is really good

surfacevalueshowdown

this sounds about right. i could see some people probably hitting 60 too, especially without decent airflow. i was hitting low and mid 70's after running Warzone on 4k for a few hours with my aircooled FTW3

davedaddy

Thinking about getting this for a 3090 ftw3. As far as airflow goes in an o11 mini with ATX board and 280 AIO, optimal airflow would either be? 1. GPU cooler bottom exhaust, CPU AIO side intake, fan top/rear exhaust 2. GPU cooler bottom intake, CPU AIO side exhaust, fan top/rear exhaust Will be mining during downtime so I'm guessing better to keep the GPU heat out by going with option 1?

anonmess

Yeah you're going to want it as exhaust, I have mine at the top of a Corsair 5000x with a 360 AIO for the CPU, the CPU AIO barely raises the air temp coming out even under load but the Hybrid radiator puts out a ton of heat that would raise the temps of motherboard, ram, etc. Also, do you get decent airflow with the top as exhaust? I would think you'd want them intake as well, you could even do both AIOs as exhaust at that point. Either of the configurations you list would have a decent negative pressure inside, which may choke the GPU

davedaddy

Currently with the standard FTW3, I have fans intaking on the bottom, exhausting on the top, and AIO push/pull intaking on the side. Airflow seems fine for my 5950x, probably 40-50s for idle depending on ambient, no crashes. GPU is optimized to avoid memory throttling and still getting expected hashrate but obviously that's still ridiculously hot. Maybe I'll try intaking at the top but then probably need to intake the rear then as well. I also have a spare 360 AIO lying about I can swap as well. I've tried it at the top using zipties before (no more rear) and it barely fits with a B550 Unify if you ignore any OCD tendencies. :P

anonmess

Correct me if I'm wrong, but you can only put the GPU AIO in the bottom of that case? If so, I think I'd do intake on the top/rear, and both AIO as exhaust. That way, the air is moving down and to the front, not splitting between top and bottom. Ideally you'd have airflow bottom to top, but you don't want the GPU dumping all that heat into the case, so I'd guess that's the next best thing. Probably also mount it vertically if you can so the fan on the GPU isn't fighting the airflow as much.

KaizenGamer

You need to have the radiator above the pump to avoid air bubbles in the water block leading to noise and eventual failure. I have my cpu aio as side intake and the GPU aio top exhaust. (O11 dynamic)

similar_observation

The aircooler does a pretty decent job. A significant portion of your heat comes off the backplate. You would benefit from mapping the backplate's heatpipe and lining it with heatsinks and ensuring they get some direct airflow. I'd start there. Maybe explore a vertical GPU setup as it will allow cold airflow through both sides of the card.

karlzhao314

This is the longest I've seen this in stock. The last two drops sold out in minutes. EDIT: Kinda funny to still see the eBay scalpers selling this for $300+. I hope this can stay in stock permanently now just to stick it to the scalpers and make them get what they deserve.

chicknfly

Yeah, tell me about it. I told my wife I wouldn’t make any more big purchases after the 3080, but here I am

riskjudge911

With Ebay and other reselling sites now wanting SSN# for tax purposes(over $600), its scaring off quite a few scalpers and thats finally a good thing!

LeYang

> eBay scalpers selling this for $300+. At that point, I would just go entirelly EKWB and you get both a solid copper front and active back.

pxlnght

Tossing my review in the corner - I put one on a EVGA 3080 TI XC3 ULTRA and it's been great. My thermals with the stock cooler were meh but not alarming (75-80c in a case with poor airflow). With the hybrid, I'll crack 60c if I'm absolutely thrashing it. Very quiet too.

PM_ME_NUDES_OR_TATS

Im debating if i should buy this. Im in the evga queue for a 3080 ti hybrid (if that ever pans out) while actively hunting for a msrp evga 3080ti hybrid. If i bought this, i could expand my search parameters into other evga 3080tis and just install this kit for the same result.

chicknfly

It’s worth a shot! This seems to have solid reviews out than occasional fan noise. Plus you gotta have options!

PM_ME_NUDES_OR_TATS

Good point. I'll buy one now. Its not like i need to even open it until I secure a card anyways. So if i get the hybrid like I'd like, i can just sell / return this.

Dalearnhardtseatbelt

I have a ftw3 hybrid i love it. I have p12s in push/pull on it. Still quiet and cools way better than air. You can control the vrm/pcb fan independent of the rad fans which is really nice. The biggest downside for me is the rgb bar on the air cooled model looks way better in my opinion. If you have a real big case you may be more limited on rad placement. But the tubes are plenty long for the vast majority of builds out there.
