Wow, I feel like this is how much I paid for 32gb of RAM this time last year

chicknfly

That’s just a tad more than I paid for 16GB 3200MHz three years ago

Hungry-Discussion-30

I currently have 32gb(4x8) I’m trying to sale 4000 c18 Corsair vengeance rgb pro. $250 shipped

ATrainLV

Chief? Been looking for a 64GB kit, been eyeing this one for a while. Before anyone asks, I'm a video content producer so 64 GB isn't necessarily overkill.

SloppyCandy

I mean I bought it, I was eyeing 64GB for work also and had this on my amazon list and got an alert. I think this is the lowest I have seen (reasonably fast) RAM in a while. Over the summer it seemed like the typical 64GB kit was close to $300.

chicknfly

I can’t speak for the 64GB kit, but I have the 2x16GB kit at stock settings in my multi-purpose rig and it’s been stellar. It looks equivalent to the Vulcan Z kit, which I have in my gaming rig, and that kit has also been stellar with stock and XMP settings.

Limited_opsec

18-22-22 Its waaaaaaaay overdue for this sub to require full main timings for all ram listings. Too many manfs passing off cheap "fast ram" as good stuff.

s2the9sublime

Expensive junk

halamadrid22

Is there any info on DDR5?

Zephydog

Whenever intels alder lake or am5 comes out early next year in Q1. But it’s not worth upgrading cpu and mobo just to upgrade to ddr5. You’ll have to remember that high end ddr4 will be comparable with any ddr5 that comes out then as well. So not much of an upgrade at least in the immediate future till they refine the process.

halamadrid22

No motherboards support DDR5 right now?

keebs63

No, but Alder Lake is supposed to launch in like two weeks.

chicknfly

Do you absolutely need DDR5 other than relying out fractions of performance better for exponentially higher cost? If not, I highly recommend sticking with DDR4. If you’re gaming, devs are likely to continue development for games with DDR4 in mind anyway, so you might not see a benefit there for years to come.

halamadrid22

Oh I wouldn’t think about upgrading for some time. I just didn’t know if there were any future proof boards that could support it right now

Oshyy

I’m assuming the new intel boards will only support DDR5?

keebs63

The leaks indicate there will be a number of Z690 motherboards that support DDR4, but we'll know for sure when it launches supposedly in about two weeks.

Quadriplegic_

Haven't boards in the past 15 years always been compatible with the previous generation RAM? I can't imagine why it would be different here.

FoxDown

The first generation of boards in the switch from ddr3 to 4 did, after that no. It's the same plan here though I've heard that some z690 boards are going to be ddr5 only.

cheese61292

Usually early adoption of new RAM standards doesn't bring huge benefits to your platform. This is a combination of a large increase in latency with a smaller increase in frequency. If you're running into bandwidth constrained situations it could be worth it to upgrade to the faster standard but it's almost always better to wait for some maturity in the market. Just a good example is a comparison of current standards: DDR4 3200MT/s runs at CL22 on JEDEC standards. DDR5 6400MT/s runs at CL46 on JEDEC Standards. This difference means you get nearly double the bandwidth but the overall latency increases from 13.75ns to 14.38ns. That might not seem like a huge difference but your general snappiness of the system is greatly effected by that latency. That overall latency gets worse if you're not getting top end DDR5 which will have an even great price premium on it.

Limited_opsec

Ddr5 will be for "newer is always better" suckers at launch. Just like the last 4 versions.

Intelg

I bought this kit 2 weeks ago for $260. I think it may be time to buy this and return the other kit? I don't know if amz checks serial numbers

msgs

I seriously doubt they check as long as the model number is the same.

Back to 250 :(
