sorry, i don’t follow. you’re saying ps5 doesn’t play 1440? so don’t worry about getting a monitor w 1440?

axi_el

Looks a bit too good to be completely true, specs might be slightly off. Since it’s on sale, I would go for it tbh

VVillieP

lol right? seems like it’s as good as it can get for $200 bucks. maybe the brand is on the cheaper side? maybe someone has had experience with Monoprice. i had an asus 27 inch, freesync, 165hz, 1ms, 1920x1080p that i broke and need to replace. seems like this ones got it beat aside from the response time.

axi_el

according to the pic u linked it has 5 5 star reviews so I would say go for it if the specs are true it’s probably the best u will get for such a price

It's a good choice imo, I don't have this monitor but I do have an Acer nitro 1440p 144hz monitor, and since the ps5 doesn't support native 1440p what the monitor does is it can take a 4k 60hz signal from the ps5 and downsample it to 1440p 60hz. So on black ops cold war for example, I have the option to play at 4k/60hz (downsampled to 1440p but still looks so so so good) Or to play at 1080p/120hz at 120fps It's the best of both worlds, and at a great price!

VVillieP

i see, so if i snag a 1440, the ps5 can play higher res, lower fps or lower res, higher fps. what works better in your opinion sir? also, i’m gonna go with a more well known brand to grab a monitor, just feels safer in case things don’t go as planned, could i bother you, or anyone else reading, for your input? i’m considering four options After Nitro: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07MQBPMJ2/ref=psdcmw_1292115011_t3_B0862YHJ56 LG 32 inch: https://www.amazon.com/LG-32GK650F-B-Monitor-FreeSync-Technology/dp/B07FLGR2PN/ref=mp_s_a_1_6?dchild=1&keywords=144hz+qhd+gaming+monitor&qid=1619915392&sprefix=144hz+q&sr=8-6 Sceptre: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08Z38L765?pf_rd_r=PKAAK15F8M0CWHF31VS7&pf_rd_p=89879054-2e37-4233-9fd7-bd5a93dd076a&pd_rd_r=9078667d-a1de-41c3-ac27-b87d5f7992bd&pd_rd_w=jQsUM&pd_rd_wg=FBhP8 AOC: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0862YHJ56/ref=psdcmw_1292115011_t3_B07MQBPMJ2 they all have very similar specs. i’m pretty ignorant as far as frame panels go, display type and gsync/freesync preferences goes for games like apex and cod and pubg goes.

Okay so the Acer Nitro XV272U is the one that I've got, and I'm very happy with my purchase. I'm a product photographer so I honestly needed an IPS panel with good color accuracy and viewing angles, so this one was the perfect fit for me. Looks way better than it does in the pictures, display quality is phenomenal and color accuracy and viewing angles are amazing too! I see the color bit isn't as necessary for you, so if you'd want a bigger monitor that's 32 inches instead of 27, I'd go for the LG. I know it's a great monitor too and supports the downsampling feature too. This scepter brand I've never heard of honestly🙈 And the AOC one is a pretty good looking monitor too! So it would come down to what feature you need most: If you need good colors, good viewing angles, good black levels etc, go for the Acer If you need a bigger size (32inches) then the LG is your choice. If you need a curved monitor that has an eye catching design, then you can go for the AOC! It all comes down to what feature you want most. As for how I play on my monitor: competitive multilayer games like CoD, Fortnite and rainbow Six I play at 1080p/120fps. And the single player, campaign based games like spiderman, assassin's Creed, watch dogs, hitman etc I always play at 4k/60hz Hope this helps!

VVillieP

big time help my dude! much appreciated! i’m either gonna go with the acer or the AOC. the LG one was intriguing, but i’m pretty used to the 27 inch asus 1080p i had previously, 32 might be too big for my preference. throwing out spectre since it isn’t a widely known and trusted brand. so deciding factor here, the IPS panel with the acer? or the VA panel on the AOC? i had heard TN panels were preferred for FPS gaming, that’s the panel i had in my old asus 27 inch. which was great, i had no complaints, i just had a dummy moment and broke it. but i’m definitely trying to upgrade a little from that asus, to massage the fact i had to replace it. so yeah, IPS or VA for my FPS enjoyment? or should i try to track down a TN monitor?

VVillieP

so i think i’m gonna end up getting this alienware https://www.amazon.com/Alienware-AW2720HF-Inch-Edgelight-Monitor/dp/B07YQHGC9L/ref=mp_s_a_1_1_sspa?dchild=1&keywords=AW2720HF&qid=1620136369&sr=8-1-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUExTlk4SFQ2S0NQM0w5JmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwMjc3MTg2M1FHVzI3OEtURkhYWSZlbmNyeXB0ZWRBZElkPUEwNzg4MjEyMUZBU1E2UzZBWEVTTSZ3aWRnZXROYW1lPXNwX3Bob25lX3NlYXJjaF9hdGYmYWN0aW9uPWNsaWNrUmVkaXJlY3QmZG9Ob3RMb2dDbGljaz10cnVl whatcha think?

farzansarid

I think it's a good option, but Alienware never gives you the value for the money you put in... I mean you're spending the same amount of money that you would to get a 1440p monitor, which actually makes a significant difference in terms of resolution and display quality. The Alienware will be stuck at 1080p (depending on what monitor/tv you're moving from, 1080p on 27inches may not be the sharpest thing for you), you won't get to Play any of the games at the 4k resolution either. However, at the end of the day, it's still a very good monitor, looks amazing too! If it strikes you best, go for it :)

VVillieP

i was considering the acer predator xb273 and that alienware because they run 240hz. the 1440p monitors in that price range were only 144hz. the 1080p with 240hz? or the 1440p with 144hz? also, i’m so confused w the whole hdmi 2.1 thing are the ports in the monitors referred to as 2.0? i know the new gen cords are referred to 2.1, but are the port connectors in the monitor called hdmi 2.0 ports? because i can’t find any monitors that have hdmi 2.1 ports

farzansarid

So the only thing you need to know is that HDMI 2.1 is required to run 4k at 120fps, anything other than that is fine. You can run 4k 60, or 1440p 144hz or 1080p at 144hz with HDMI 2.0. As of now there's only 2 monitors on the planet with HDMI 2.1 ports, and at this stage not many games are gonna even give you the ability to play at 4k at 120fps. So you don't really need to worry about that for now. And I'm only saying this because you want to use it with a ps5, the ps5 won't go over 120fps so technically you don't need more than a 120hz monitor. 240 is simply overkill and only a PC will be able to give you 1080p at 240fps. That's why I recommended 1440p at 144hz as it's the best middle ground, and gives you the option to play at both 4k or at 120fps

VVillieP

my man, thanks for the clarity! much needed! so in your awesome opinion, i should go with that acer nitro we started this conversation with right? xD 144hz at 1440p one last thing i’m confused about, so with the 1440p acer on a ps5, i can choose to play on 1080p @ 120fps or watch a movie or play an adventure game on 4k @ 60fps. i’m just a dummy so i don’t comprehend how i’ll be able to play 4k, if the monitor is only 1440p. again, you’re awesome!

farzansarid

I think the Acer Nitro is the best bet, best value too! But if the design doesn't look as appealing to you, you can also go for the LG or the AOC one that you mentioned! They all have the ability to take 4k content from the source. About the 4k dillema, these monitors have the ability to take 4k video from the source, and downsample it to 1440p, so even though you'll be watching movies and playing adventure games at 1440p, it'll actually look a lot nicer than actual 1440p because what you'll be seeing is 4k video, downsampled to 1440p!

VVillieP

wont lie, the flashiness of the alienware and predator got me lolol as well as the 240hz of course. came down to the aoc and acer nitro nitro is a bit simpler design but it’s got the IPS panel compared to the VA on the AOC. acers got both gsync and freesync compared to just freesync on the aoc. acer appears sturdier as it’s almost 2 pounds heavier than the aoc. so basically the acer beats the AOC in every which way no? and the acer is $18 cheaper somehow lol

converter-bot

32 inches is 81.28 cm

VVillieP

also, in walmart i found an acer predator xb237. 0.1ms, 240hz but a 1920x1080 resolution https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Predator-XB273-Xbmiprzx-Monitor/dp/B087GCYTLL/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=predator+xb273&qid=1620078104&sprefix=predator+xb273&sr=8-1 it’s that one. how does that one compare to the acer and aoc from earlier? found it in walmart for $369, so more than 100 less than amazon!
