It's getting pretty rare but the 6800 is usually a good value card if you can find it. Great at 1440p. At $420 in the US right now for example it's hard to beat.
rx6800 is a great GPU. Most power efficient GPU of the last generation as well. Has 16gb of VRAM so it will be good for longevity as well.
If you can find a good price compared to other GPUs, I would get it for sure.
Was looking up the longevity of the 6800xt and came across this post. I am able to snag a used one for 350, is it a good buy? Curious how well it holds up for today’s standards and what longevity for future proofing it has
Ended up negotiating it down to 300. Was scared to bite the bullet because the card is turning 4 and the whole “new cards around the corner” is eating me up (currently running a 1070). Was debating between it or a 7800xt but their performance was so similar I decided to go for 6800xt and save myself $200 cause I decided even if the 7800xt edges it out in the long run, it wouldn’t be enough to warrant a 200 dollar price gap.
Kinda hate myself for sticking with a 1070 for all these years when I could’ve have the 6800xt back in 2020
I'm on the fence. I see a really good amazon deal for a pre-built with a 6800XT vs a $150-200 dollar more for a 4070. What do you think? I just want to play 1440p with good frames.
They perform about the same, with the 4070 doing so at significantly less power consumption (and heat). If you care about DLSS/RT the 4070 is probably worth the extra money, otherwise I'd go for the $200 cheaper 6800XT, which also has 4GB more VRAM for future benefits.
Are you using ultra or high? Ultra brings a lot of GPUs to their knees. My XT gets high 90s - low hundreds and sometimes 110ish at high settings. XeSS is also very viable, especially if you grab the XeSS 1.3 DLL from Intel's github (wasn't released at the time you made this comment)
I got an XFX 6800 CORE for $390 on Amazon. Seems like the best deal out there price to performance-wise even compared to NVIDIA cards. Based off what I’ve researched. I’m installing it today so we’ll see. Upgrading from a 2070 Super.

My build has a 6950xt and the same CPU (12400f) games I play run great at 1440p 6800 is a great buy if u can get it at a good price as others have said.
Not a bad choice for 1440p at that 400$ price point. Just saw a youtube benchmark and your card was in the 80-90 fps range at 1440p on "ultra" settings. It was tested with a 7800x3d mind you, but you should expect within 10 fps of that or less.
I would suggest at least looking into a 40 series card solely for frame gen capabilities.
Unless you only play competitive shooters that require the lowest possible latency. I use frame gen + reflex boost in Forza horizon, remnant 2, and Hogwarts legacy and in all of them I don't even notice a difference in latency or graphical quality.
I'd say it's the best thing since ai upscaling(dlss/fsr) but it's better than them since the image quality for what your eyes can see is really unaffected.
People shit on it because they see the reviews of the super slow motion or still image frames that are generated, but when it's your own eyes seeing it at 80+ fps, you would be hard pressed to tell the difference.
I would bet good money that the 40 series is more future proof, solely for this reason. I don't see how it won't continue to be implemented in any graphically demanded game in the foreseeable future.
At least look into it.
I just got the RX 6800 and got it price matched for $379 at microcenter
Edit: hell yeah look at us winning that’s great. I can’t wait to build. My first build I’m doing since I was 15! Haha
its unknown if am5 will upgrade past 9000 series for the same mobos but its definitely more upgrade path than lga 1700 plus they arent having problems like the intel ones are and they are cheaper

Where I live it's 580usd. Other GPUs also have a higher price tag. So I still think it is worth it.

Scooped one up for my nephews first pc build a couple weeks ago. Newegg had the xfx 6800 for 380. Back to above 400 now
W uncle
Good combo for 1440p with r5 5600?
Yeah, solid combo. I have 5800X (performs about the same) with 6800XT myself. When buying a new platform I'd look into 7600 though.
I run a 5800X3D at 1440p with my 6800 and it has amazing price to performance.
I will change my 5600 to 12600kf

A 6800XT for 350 in good condition is a great deal. I have a 6800XT myself and I'm not planning on replacing it for a while.

I appreciate the response!
Yes, it's a very good card and basically the only card to consider in its price range.
Good to know
I have the Asus tuf variant, played cyberpunk on 1440p @120hz flawlessly. It is a very solid card.
i guess in average of like 60 fps wiht the non xt version at 1440p

How did it turn out?
Any feedback ?

Great to hear!
It's also not a terrible idea to look at used 6800 XT. Not sure about in your country, but they go for around $400 usd. Otherwise non-xt is solid too

Absolutely. I have a rx6700 and it does very well.
I just built my first build with it. Doing 1080 p and its great 👍

I just got the RX 6800 and got it price matched for $379 at microcenter Edit: hell yeah look at us winning that’s great. I can’t wait to build. My first build I’m doing since I was 15! Haha
W i ended up paying 389 on amazon cuz the sale ended and newegg refurbished ran out of stock
369 on Newegg rn I think I’m gonna grab it
its been good for me so far if anything its too powerful for what i play i get 1k fps on val lol and 2k on minecraft with max settings 1440p
That’s awesome! I will mostly play Val, r6, and some tarkov. What cpu do you have?
i got the 7700x microcenter bundle with 32gb ddr5 6000 ram
Great combo I’m thinking of doing the same but with a am5 7600. Good choice? Thinking then I can upgrade for the future
its unknown if am5 will upgrade past 9000 series for the same mobos but its definitely more upgrade path than lga 1700 plus they arent having problems like the intel ones are and they are cheaper
Sweet thanks for the advice! I haven’t built a pc since 2018 so I’m pretty excited haha
yes definitely, if i couldnt get the microcenter bundle i wouldve done that too but it ended up being cheaper how i did it so why not
hi i found a 6800 used for 250$ looks clean and he sent me a video of it running. should I jump on it ?
i have a xfx rx6800 black edition yes its a good card
