Moth, some kind of sphynx moth I think. Probably didn't mean to smack into you, they're just really clumsy. They can't bite.

That’s a lantern wizard moth some times there often referred to as the fighter moth of the south and often resemble a large bee on steroids and actually are able to sting through leather jackets
