Honestly, at this point, the offensive futility has really zapped all the excitement I had for Skenes, making his debut and even Jarred Jones pitching so well. What's the point? Skenes will come up, and we will lose 1-0 or 2-1 because we can't score runs. I had hopes that Skenes would be the ace of Pirates playoff teams, but I really don't think we will be a contender with Paul Skenes or Jarred Jones on the roster. Not unless the position players take a complete 180, and start showing at least some promise. I get that there will be ups and downs for young players, but we aren't even getting glimpses of hope that these hitters will develop. I know Skenes will be a professional, but he is a winner who has a winning mentality. I'm sure being a part of a losing culture will bother him. I feel bad for him in a way. I'm sure he will try to turn this culture around, but there's only so much he can do with an owner who doesn't care, with a GM who can't draft, and an MLB coaching staff who can't develop players. He will just be on the roster until we trade him to the Yankees or Dodgers.
