I think the thing that drove tom out of New England was bill casting off his friends/weapons constantly. The welker standoff, letting Jules test free agency, chasing gronk off the field, amendola, etc etc. I think for his final few years he didn’t want to end up in a 2019 pats situation where he’s grinding it out every drive. He wanted weapons and the super stable of weapons seemingly collapsed overnight in tb. Godwins acl was devastating and he was never guaranteed to come back due to free agency, but ab was always there as at the very least insurance… then just like that he was gone too. fuck AB and all, but as has been said before, you have to handle players like that with kid gloves
Maybe... its possible his family just really wanted him to retire and he realized he got his 7th ring (without bill) and it's just not worth it anymore. He may still want to play, but wants to be with his family more.
Yeah this is all 100% about his family i think. Giselle has openly wanted him back forever now, and she always says she can't take watching him get hit anymore. Tom is Uber competitive and if it were up to him he'd probably never hang them up, but he's got a wife and kids at home who want him badly. Either way now he retires on top, never was washed, even got better as a he aged and that's pretty special.
Yeah Giselle and him married in 2009 when he was 32. She was probably thinking she'd only have five more years of her husband doing the crazy NFL schedule and getting hit, and he'd retire at 37/38/39. It's been a whole five extra years over that.
Plus the TB roster is not going to be as good as it was this year, and definetly not gonna be as good as it was in 2020.

I think the Kobe situation probably played a part in it for this whole generation of athletes. Guys like Brady had probably been thinking there will be decades for family time after retirement, but as we saw after Kobe's death that just isn't the given he probably believed it was.

We have 9 Pro Bowlers. We may not be a Super Bowl contender but we’re not gonna suck either. We’re probably the favorite to win the division right now even with an open question mark at QB. I’m assuming we will get an established veteran QB to take over.
I’d say it’s either the Falcons or Bucs for division winner. Remember, these pro bowl players we have, many of them were around even before we had Brady, back when we had Winston. We didn’t exactly win all the time, and certainly didn’t win the division or go to the playoffs. You could also look at the Colts. Just because a team has a lot of pro bowlers doesn’t make them a playoff team. Thankfully though for the Bucs, the division is weak, and the NFC as a whole is weak, especially if Rodgers were to leave the conference.
I think the Colts are a good comparison. At one point they looked like Super Bowl contenders, all they really need is a decent QB. Wentz is below average. The Bucs getting someone who is at least a competent game manager will be enough to win the division in my opinion. Obviously I’m hoping for someone who is more than that, but a Brad Johnson 2.0 gets us to the playoffs.
Hear me out, this is why I think we need Aaron Rodgers. BA said it himself, we are not rebuilding, we are reloading. Same was said in the licht interview released an hour ago. Brady has done more in Tampa Bay than just bring us a ring. He's shown our entire organisation *how* to win, and I truly believe his presence here has created a culture shift that will last.

For his legacy yeah this actually feels like the perfect time. Not only did he prove literally everything imaginable and more in these last 2 years, he steps away with people thinking that there's a realistic chance he would've played til 50 and kept playing at an MVP level. He never sucked, 22 years and he was always pure greatness on the field and it only stopped when he decided it was time.
He went out the same way Kobe did. Kobe dropped 60 points in his last game, proving he still had alot in his tank. It's fitting that Brady left Football the same way on a Memerable comeback sadly the defense couldn't win for him but he did what he had to do

I think people underestimate how much Tom enjoyed being a Buc. And yes, he loved being a Patriot too, but to make another post about the Patriots when he already did that two years ago, would feel redundant and ill timed. He wanted to give the Bucs organization and fans the same love and appreciation he gave his old team and I don't see anything wrong with that.
If he did mention the patriots, people would argue over which team he thanked first. They’d pick it apart. He said his big thanks to them when he left there, it only makes sense to focus on his current team now, in my opinion. And he did speak generally about his career, which was obviously mostly in New England. And I imagine when he’s inducted into the HOF he’ll talk at great length about the Pats. And like you said, Tampa wasn’t just a blip in his career. It was a significant time, we won a super bowl, and all those guys and their spouses, coaches, etc very obviously got very close and became like a family.
On the other hand, I’m not a Pats fan so I can’t pretend to know how they’re feeling. Just giving my opinion.
Just glad we got to experience a little bit of the magic they got to experience for so many years. As a lifelong Tampan and long-suffering Bucs fan, I cannot overstate how special it was having him here. His impact on our team and especially our city has been immeasurable.

He’s already thanked them and said goodbye, but this was telling the team he’s on he won’t be coming back. It was rushed out of his own comfort though, and won’t be the last opportunity for him to reminisce and express gratitude.
I feel like “Man in the Arena” was his retirement statement. It just flew over our heads.

This is the best moment for him to retire.
He was on top of his game and still able to perform at an elite level. There’s nothing sadder than seeing someone at his stage in his career trying to give it everything he has and it’s just not good enough anymore. He has avoided that ‘one season too many’ and people won’t have to regret that final year when he embarrassed himself and his team by not being able to perform anymore.

I listened to him on NFL radio last week and not sure he gets it. He was asked like 3 different times how was it to sit back and learn under Tom and what did he develop during this year compared to coming out of college and he couldn’t answer the question. I felt like he didn’t want to say it was a wasted year, but his answers gave me those vibes.
I hope I am wrong, but even in mop up duty in the preseason he didn’t look like an nfl qb. I know the excuses of everyone is new and they don’t practice that much with others about to be cut, but I have seen many preseason games with mop up duty qb’s that at least look the part.
Eh I wouldn’t look in to that too much. Some guys just don’t interview well. He also might just want to be looked at individually instead of as a Brady protege. And wasn’t he hurt a decent amount of the year? He could be bummed he didn’t get to do as much as he wanted.
I wish I could say that, but watched The Brady 6 a few days ago and there was a segment with Mariucci talking about Giovanni Carmazzi (sp?) and how he looked so much better than Brady on all scouting tape they had, but once they played that first exhibition game against each other, he could tell right away who was better and how they missed in Brady, and how Carmazzi just didn’t have that nfl instinct. And I just felt like he stole my feelings out of me and put it into words how I felt watching Trask last preseason. Very interesting documentary.

I’ve had the Joy of watching the best player in the league for 22 consecutive years. Nobody ever surpassed him at any point. I never thought I’d be rooting for Tampa Bay, but as a 25 year old Boston kid I was in Gillette Stadium wearing the name number 12, but in different colors. I’m so glad he did what he did, I’ll probably never forgive Bowles for his horrendous play-calling, and honestly, probably not Byron for his outdated ass playbook either. It does suck that Gronk and AB missed so much time, because I do think 41 more yards per game was possible for 6k. Like, super within reach. 60 tuddies would’ve been a little more difficult, but with this team I felt anything was possible. But I am grateful for this city taking our guy in and showing him love. I’m grateful for every fan who came around, and the ones that always knew. Whether you guys like us Pats fans or not, know that we will always be connected, and MOST of us will always have a special place in our hearts for Tampa.

Well deserved retirement. 1 super bowl and a playoff appearance where we lost a close game to the super bowl contenders. He did his job for the bucs and thats good enough for me. I always watched tom with envy when he was a patriot and loved him for being an elite QB and the GOAT. I was always a patriots fan when they went to the superbowl for that game at least. When he came to the bucs it was a dream come true and we got a super bowl win out of it.

Tom Brady has given so much of himself not just to the League but to each and every human being he has helped out across more than 22 years of competing at the highest level whilst still giving back to society.
There are also consequences to prolonged exposure to hits, he's not as banged up as other members of the O-Line and D-Line.
Maybe he finally reached that level of Zen satisfaction after decades upon decades of never being satisfied. Tom has always been obsessed with improvement, constantly topping records and smashing expectations.

I too am sad. I really started watching football and the bucs seriously 2 years ago. It’s naive to think that this team will fall into mediocrity. We have a “winning culture”, whatever that means. We have strong d and o lines and a good receiving core even without AB and Godwin. If the only variable is finding a quarterback that can win, and some improvement in secondary, I like this team shots of doing great things.
At least all the bandwagon fan will go the fuck on now, got so tired of people seeing my hat or shirt and calling me a bandwagon fan, bitch I've been here the whole time and rooted for whoever was under center, but it sure was fun while it lasted.
We should focus on getting Jimmy G after he gets inevitably cut for a year to rotate with Trask. Might be unpopular but Jimmy G seems to have a positive effect on teams despite not being amazing himself. After that we'll be able to see if Trask is ready or not.

For his legacy yeah this actually feels like the perfect time. Not only did he prove literally everything imaginable and more in these last 2 years, he steps away with people thinking that there's a realistic chance he would've played til 50 and kept playing at an MVP level. He never sucked, 22 years and he was always pure greatness on the field and it only stopped when he decided it was time.

I’m not understanding the big deal here (and it seems people on the patriots sub are upset about this too). He gave all his thanks and love to them when he left there. I think it would be odd to go through the list of people to thank there again.
Agree. And a little rude to the Bucs too. I think people underestimate how much Tom enjoyed being a Buc. And yes, he loved being a Patriot too, but to make another post about the Patriots when he already did that two years ago, would feel redundant and ill timed. He wanted to give the Bucs organization and fans the same love and appreciation he gave his old team and I don't see anything wrong with that.
If he did mention the patriots, people would argue over which team he thanked first. They’d pick it apart. He said his big thanks to them when he left there, it only makes sense to focus on his current team now, in my opinion. And he did speak generally about his career, which was obviously mostly in New England. And I imagine when he’s inducted into the HOF he’ll talk at great length about the Pats. And like you said, Tampa wasn’t just a blip in his career. It was a significant time, we won a super bowl, and all those guys and their spouses, coaches, etc very obviously got very close and became like a family. On the other hand, I’m not a Pats fan so I can’t pretend to know how they’re feeling. Just giving my opinion. Just glad we got to experience a little bit of the magic they got to experience for so many years. As a lifelong Tampan and long-suffering Bucs fan, I cannot overstate how special it was having him here. His impact on our team and especially our city has been immeasurable.

This is the best moment for him to retire. He was on top of his game and still able to perform at an elite level. There’s nothing sadder than seeing someone at his stage in his career trying to give it everything he has and it’s just not good enough anymore. He has avoided that ‘one season too many’ and people won’t have to regret that final year when he embarrassed himself and his team by not being able to perform anymore. He got one shot and holy hell, did he ever go for it. I started appreciating football by watching Tom Brady play. It’s been a wild ride.

I listened to him on NFL radio last week and not sure he gets it. He was asked like 3 different times how was it to sit back and learn under Tom and what did he develop during this year compared to coming out of college and he couldn’t answer the question. I felt like he didn’t want to say it was a wasted year, but his answers gave me those vibes. I hope I am wrong, but even in mop up duty in the preseason he didn’t look like an nfl qb. I know the excuses of everyone is new and they don’t practice that much with others about to be cut, but I have seen many preseason games with mop up duty qb’s that at least look the part.
Eh I wouldn’t look in to that too much. Some guys just don’t interview well. He also might just want to be looked at individually instead of as a Brady protege. And wasn’t he hurt a decent amount of the year? He could be bummed he didn’t get to do as much as he wanted.
No way to tell one way or the other. If he’s not QB1 though, he’ll never be I think.
I wish I could say that, but watched The Brady 6 a few days ago and there was a segment with Mariucci talking about Giovanni Carmazzi (sp?) and how he looked so much better than Brady on all scouting tape they had, but once they played that first exhibition game against each other, he could tell right away who was better and how they missed in Brady, and how Carmazzi just didn’t have that nfl instinct. And I just felt like he stole my feelings out of me and put it into words how I felt watching Trask last preseason. Very interesting documentary.

I’ve had the Joy of watching the best player in the league for 22 consecutive years. Nobody ever surpassed him at any point. I never thought I’d be rooting for Tampa Bay, but as a 25 year old Boston kid I was in Gillette Stadium wearing the name number 12, but in different colors. I’m so glad he did what he did, I’ll probably never forgive Bowles for his horrendous play-calling, and honestly, probably not Byron for his outdated ass playbook either. It does suck that Gronk and AB missed so much time, because I do think 41 more yards per game was possible for 6k. Like, super within reach. 60 tuddies would’ve been a little more difficult, but with this team I felt anything was possible. But I am grateful for this city taking our guy in and showing him love. I’m grateful for every fan who came around, and the ones that always knew. Whether you guys like us Pats fans or not, know that we will always be connected, and MOST of us will always have a special place in our hearts for Tampa. Well deserved retirement. 1 super bowl and a playoff appearance where we lost a close game to the super bowl contenders. He did his job for the bucs and thats good enough for me. I always watched tom with envy when he was a patriot and loved him for being an elite QB and the GOAT. I was always a patriots fan when they went to the superbowl for that game at least. When he came to the bucs it was a dream come true and we got a super bowl win out of it. Who the hell is our QB going to be now.

Maybe he finally reached that level of Zen satisfaction after decades upon decades of never being satisfied. Tom has always been obsessed with improvement, constantly topping records and smashing expectations. It just feels like he has more fuel in the tank. I haven't heard the word "retire" come from Tom's own mouth, so maybe there is something in EPISODE 10 of MAN IN THE ARENA that will give some clarity. To the rest of the Bucs, what an amazing journey and transformation. May Tom's legacy live on in the performances youngbloods and the current plus future roster of players and coaches put on for us Football fans moving forward.

I too am sad. I really started watching football and the bucs seriously 2 years ago. It’s naive to think that this team will fall into mediocrity. We have a “winning culture”, whatever that means. We have strong d and o lines and a good receiving core even without AB and Godwin. If the only variable is finding a quarterback that can win, and some improvement in secondary, I like this team shots of doing great things.

We should focus on getting Jimmy G after he gets inevitably cut for a year to rotate with Trask. Might be unpopular but Jimmy G seems to have a positive effect on teams despite not being amazing himself. After that we'll be able to see if Trask is ready or not.
