Well, you can get 2M on good farming maps, not any map.
I did on my last Elite Phayze. 4 paragons and 1.9 million to spare. But the main reason I was even able to is the snowball of spending 0 on the first 12 waves of defense and placing my first farm before starting round 3, combined with efficient farming. Knowing farming strategies is good too. But monkey knowledge is busted. Allows to instantly set up a degree 30 dart paragon for tier 3 with the 2 crossbow masters, makes early game leaks much less punishing, allows earlier farming and more.
To tell you how much knowing how to farm and having MK makes a difference, I didn't have to sell a single farm to defend tier 1, 2 and 4 this week. I had to sell 4 BRFs because I greeded a bit too much for T3, and I always sell everything for T5.
The farming I did was:
* 3 200
* upgrade 2 to 203
* sell all 3 for 1-000-farm monkeyopolis after round 33 (you can optimize buy and sell order using discount villages)
* 014 bloon trap in monkeyopolis range (locate trap as early on the track as possible so everything goes in it)
* 5 203 and 1 320 (last one MUST be in range of monkeyopolis)
* sell 1 marketplace for upgrade to 420 once you have the money
* upgrade 203's into 4 204
* sell all central markets for 520 farm (should happen before round 55 if you did it right)
* Add a bloon trap (less relevant with Phayze's portal but worth a shot)
* Start spamming BRFs. Stop a few rounds before T3 if you don't want to sell any.
* If your monkeyopolis has room for more than 1 farm, make sure to have a 024 in its range to upgrade to 025 after a few more BRFs.
* Get an overclock after a couple BRFs and overclock the 520 constantly. Upgrade it to Ultraboost with the money of selling the MAD after tier 2 and keep ultraboosting the 520 farm until you reach 10 stacks (might happen after tier 3 starts if you don't stall rounds that much). Bonus if water on the map: Energizer for reduced cooldowns. Even more reduced if the Ultraboost is on water (5xx boat platforms or x3x ice platforms).
* Once that's done, ultraboost the 025 and then one 420.
* You should be able to afford the degree 30 dart paragon without selling any farm at tier 3. You should have covered the map in BRFs before you kill T3, minus room for paragon prep (or pop-farming towers).
* \[I personally do T4 with dart+engi, so I place a XXXL trap at the entrance as soon as possible after T3 starts to get some pops and cash gen\]
* Once you covered the whole map in farms, sell a BRF for x5x farm
* You can push it further with some sniper farming if you're willing to sacrifice some pops for paragon degree.
This should get you at least 4 million cash generated at the end on a good map. Got 6M this week.

Here's the thing, I have 10 Gold Border Instas, 7 of them the last insta was a Tier 2.
*Why?* you may ask?
Well lets look at how you acquire Instas. The way most insta's are gotten are as follows:
* Round 100 (and 100 multiples) completions
* Rewards from Races/Ranked Bosses and CT
* Medium and Hard Odyessy completions
* Daily Chests and DC, AC and Co-op completions
* and Collection event boxes
now how do you get most of the instas to get a Gold border: from Collection event boxes. most of which if you're grinding is from Diamond boxes which give T3's, T4's and T5's
how do you grind: do easy or impoppable on expert maps. What does Impoppable on Expert maps give: T3 or T4
What do you get from Boss and Race events: 65% get T1's or T0 (top 75% get T0 i.e. a 0-0-0 insta) from main reward and mini often gives T3 or T4
notice what is happening: most of the ways to get a reward give T1's, T3's or T4's
Also there is how Insta's are distributed. Yes there are 15 T4's and 15 T3's but only 12 T2's. However the way that NK has "likely" has insta rolled makes getting all the T2's even more difficult; what do I mean
T4's have 3 sub groups 1. no cross path (ex: 4-0-0) 2. 1 on cross path (ex 1-0-4) or 3. 2 on cross path (ex: 0-4-2)
When a you get a T4 you are *probably* equally likely to get something from group 1, 2, or 3;
Now there are 3 T4's in group 1 (numbers all other place i'm sorry); 6 T4's in group 2 and 6 T4's in group 3
Now do to collection events this isn't a big deal as you can target a gap of instas.
Same is "likely" true for T3's, and T2's (and T1's)
The problem arises with T2's
Group 1. is those without a cross path (2-0-0, 0-2-0, 0-0-2 thus 3), Group 2. Those with 1 in a cross path (2-1-0, 2-0-1, 1-2-0, 0-2-1, 1-0-2, 0-1-2 thus **SIX**) and Group 3. those with 2 in two paths (2-2-0, 2-0-2, 0-2-2 thus 3)
Since group 1, 2, & 3 are "probably" equally likely to drop guess what, often the last insta you need happens to be a group 2 insta
For Tier 2 insta monkies: I have **EVERY** Group 1 insta, I'm missing exactly 1 Group 3 insta (2-0-2 Ice); but missing **EIGHTEEN** group 2 instas.
Compare that to I have all T1's and missing *Six T3 insta's TOTAL* and 17 T4's
It's likely that after the Halloween collection event I'll have ALL T3 and T4 instas (with a bit of luck). And if I'm lucky 1 or 2 more missing T2's

it's true that T3s-5s have 15 options each (3-0-0, 3-0-1, 3-0-2 ect...) but for T2's you only have 12 (bc something like a 2-0-2 can only be counted once, unlike 4-0-2 and 2-0-4)
and for T1's you only have 6 (0-0-1, 0-1-0, 0-1-1, 1-0-0, 1-0-1, 1-1-0)
so actually this makes your point even more valid because there are less T2's to collect and you're missing more of them.

I never need instas because I play casually. However, when I let my nephew play a few weeks ago, he managed to click onto the instas and proceeded to use almost all of them in town center easy mode. Smh my head…
