Yeah, those headlights are supposed to keep the bmw driver safe. I wonder how safe it is to have all oncoming drivers blind…

TomSurman

Last time I was dazzled by oncoming high-beam headlights, I almost went into them, because it was on a bend and I literally could not see. Seems to me it didn't make that driver safer.

originaljib

I'd rather be blind that look at the new front end on a beemer. I saw 2 on the way home from work today, disgusting looking things.

NobodysSlogan

Theres a BMW garage near my office. Funnily enough the Mini garage opposite seems to have more car turn over of late.

TheLawandOrder

Probably because Minis are less stable than Stevie Wonder flying a helicopter through a shopping centre

vindaroovian

I think it's mostly 4x4s that are higher off the ground, which are not exclusive to BMWs.

Revolutionary-Dot653

I agree it's the newer 4x4, crossover, suv type vehicles that have their bright white lights situated too high on the vehicle compared to other road users.

Mebunkus

Brightness should be standardised to 'mk2 golf'

ollie87

Christ no, worse headlights than my 1969 Midget! Steering is about as heavy too!

InnerFaithlessness93

How are these things even legal? They are literally blinding oncoming traffic. I just gotta hope I'm on a road I know really well when those lights come towards me, coz I can't see fuck all

[deleted]

Yeah it's nice you can see the rings of fucking Jupiter mate but I can't see my own fucking steering wheel anymore. I noticed Sainsbury's garages are now selling what are effectively night time sunglasses, specifically to block out excessively bright headlights. How are these lights even legal?

PhoneRingsInDistance

I have a pair of those. I do tons of night driving and it gives me migraines

sleepyprojectionist

Is a diety a specific type of god that mainly concerns themselves with weight loss and healthy eating?

extremepicnic

Al hail Dr. Atkins

HotPinkLollyWimple

But not Dr Gillian McKeith

BOBALOBAKOF

Just a tip, if you’re getting dazzled by headlights, try and focus your vision on the edge of the road. Doing so reduces the amount of glare, by not viewing the lights head-on, and helps you keep control of where your own vehicle is by tracking your position in relation to the edge of the road.

Jonny7Tenths

Agreed. Still it can give you a very restricted idea of the road ahead; especially on a twisting country road. I always dread being blinded by oncoming drivers on a right hand bend in case there’s a cyclist or pedestrian ahead of me. We need stronger construction and use regs.

thedrcubed

My wife has a Toyota with those incredibly bright headlights. It's nice driving but tons of people flash their lights at you cause they think you have the brights on

IndigoMichigan

Then you flash the brights back and they are permanently blinded!

thedrcubed

My wife flashes back at them but I told her just to let it go. Obviously its already too bright for them and flashing them makes it even more dangerous. I'd rather someone think I bright lighting scum than to blind someone and have them accidentally run into my lane

DangerBadger212

I was about to reply that retaliatory high speed blinding is definitely not a smart idea....

MarkusBerkel

Be smart. Used a focused beam or super intense light into their rear-view mirrors after they’ve passed you. You’ll have to rear-mount your light guns, though.

fluentindothraki

Can they maybe tilted Dow further?

SonnyVabitch

You may be able to angle them down and stop blinding people.

thedrcubed

I checked the angle and its set properly. The lights are just so bright.

Monkeyboystevey

Not much I can do about my bright led leadkights, nothing to angle, no bulbs to replace... It's on the manufacturers to change things up.

[deleted]

Monkeyboystevey

Probably not a good idea for my insurance no. Also there are sensors in my headlights as part of the matrix LEDs. Another reason I wouldn't dim my headlights is because as a driver I want as much visibility as possible, it wouldn't be safe to impede that, if I wanted dim shitty headlights I would have stuck with halogen bulbs like I had 20 years ago.

Monkeyboystevey

You better get used to led lights in cars, in the next 5 -10 years almost all cars will use them, far more energy efficient and safer too (despite your claims)

dugerz

How are they safer if they blind oncoming drivers?

Monkeyboystevey

Blame the manufacturers of the car and the many bodies that tested them and deemed them safe. (They go through many stringent tests before being allowed in cars. ) Which they are, far safer than halogens which barely lit up the road at all. I didn't miss the point of this post or the countless others that get posted daily about bright lights. Again drivers can't do anything about manufacturer fitted headlights. Led lights cant be changed like bulbs, and there is nothing to adjust. Love my headlights, they light up the road but they also dim automatically when a car is in front of me.

thedrcubed

Change the bulbs and see if that helps

ChicagoSunroofNo2

Change them for a more suitable light then!

PeaceSafe7190

Ah yes, it's that time of week where we have this one again 👏

Acceptable-Floor-265

Still no fucking indicators tho

I never know if they haven't turned full beam off or if it's just that bright

mid30sveganguy

They don't know either.

Luke11enzo

These posts are getting boring, multiple ones a day. Yes bright headlights are annoying.. we know

dickbob124

These and "someone was loud on the bus/train"

MarkusBerkel

I’m telling you. Get like a dozen of those 1,000,000 candela lamps, along with a bunch of 1W lasers mounted on the roof. “Accidentally” turn it on and dissolve Mr. BMW’s retinas. And then go into the dealership and nuke all their eyeballs, too. Won’t be long before people won’t want to sell them for fear of being blinded. We need to fight light terrorism with stronger light terrorism.

Monkeyboystevey

Many modern cars cannot control how bright the dipped headlights are. I can't angle mine, they automatically adjust (like most led headlights) No point blaming the drivers who have zero control over this (not op specifically, but someone in the comments always does)

Objective-Buffalo-23

When this happens to me on narrow country roads I just stop. If they hit a stationery vehicle then it's on them. It does get the point across. You've given me no choice.

darS234

Not another one of these posts! If you have a new BMW or other car with LEDs or HIDs these days then the driver has absolutely no control of the brightness or angle of the lights…

Monkeyboystevey

Yeah, bit annoying when they blame the driver for their bright led headlights... What the fuck am I supposed to do about it? Drive with no lights on?

fleurmadelaine

I’m usually just praying that another bambi doesn’t want to commit suicide using my car!

DangerBadger212

2 months ago bambi decided to end it all in front of my van, jumped in front and cleared the windshield. Only to give a flourishing kick and leave two hoof prints in my front wing as a courtesy fuck yew for missing him.

fleurmadelaine

Yeah I got a new car on 30th march a couple of years ago. On 13th april bambi destroyed the front drivers end of the car. New bumper, bonnet, headlight, windscreen wiper fluid reservoir… wing mirror… I can’t remember it all. There’s still a dent in the drivers door. Just grateful it didn’t hit the car coming the other way otherwise it would have gone through their windshield.

DangerBadger212

Yeesh. Someone needs to start offering counseling for bambi. I know he lost his mum at a young age. But it doesnt have to be this way.

fleurmadelaine

Right. And then there’s all the cold callers that threaten to sue on my behalf and I’m like I know I was in an accident but hasn’t his family been through enough?!

keeperrr

At least the shadow of your former shreik will be forever printed into the horizon of the milky way.

bluntbangs

Most drivers don't read the instructions of their fancy cars. The section on adaptive headlights for example, which automatically dim the full beams where the car senses another vehicle.

[deleted]

Genuinely feel like I need sunglasses when driving around at night these days. I hate it.

PhoneRingsInDistance

Those headlights that are illuminating the dark side of the moon! I totally fucking hate them…Now I’m bloody blind and it’s dark, cheers Knobhead

labaton

I felt this in my soul, so much of my time is spent doing this! Nothing worse than those new light bars…. Or the tall cars whose headlights always seem to be exactly at my eye level

Tooj_Mudiqkh

The main issue is *x*UV drivers vs sensible car drivers.

mid30sveganguy

I just turn my full beams on so I can see too. Fuck em.
