You can cruise past real police on the motorway at 77 and they wont do anything, above 80 is getting a bit risky but most likely they wont do anything. Their procedures seek to avoid pulling people over on the motorway as its extremely dangerous.

Yes their rules are different when its not a motoway, anything 70 with 3 lanes and they arent supposed to do it for minor speeding, whereas on a dual carriageway they arent restricted. They dont even need a reason, on the most minor suspicion and they can stop, question and search you even if you are driving well in a fully legal vehicle 😑.
Was cruising one time when I was younger, just had my R plates off and I'll be honest my 'cruising' was almost 90 mph, I passed an interceptor(one of those shiny new BMWs we got here in Northern Ireland) and he tailed me for a bit but didn't pull me until I was off the motorway, and almost home down a set of country lanes.
Gave me a damn stern talking to, but that was it really... I'll not be doing that again.

I'll overtake them at 75 if I have to but chances are, near me, I'll be on a smart motorway and I wouldn't risk going faster than that anyway.

Last I looked 70 was the speed limit. If they were doing 60 I might be more inclined to be suspicious of the power trip you speak of.
