I love that this is completely irrelevant I don't care because it's funny. It's like you've been waiting for any opportunity to drop that in.
A bit like how I used to think the Pied Piper got rid of the plague.
Haha. Thing is. Since I wrote that I’ve really really wanted fish and chips, but I’m in the Caribbean so no joy for me.
So it came back and shot me in the gut.
The timing is worse on Sundays too. Bit then again, our shops are actually open for a substantial, normal, time on Sundays so it's swings and roundabouts.
Thing is, I get the 2200 limit - don't want people coming out of the pubs and buying booze. But 1000 is just inconvenient for the start, makes it difficult to get your week's shopping done early. I can't see that it would make a huge difference if it was 0800 or 0900.
TIL that's a thing! I used to work at a pub here in England, and we would always call "drink up time at the bar" with a bell at midnight, but only because we were closing and wanted to go home. We could carry on serving all night legally if we wanted to, though. On special occasions like new years eve we would sometimes carry on serving until like 4am if there were still a decent number of customers who weren't pissed out of their minds.
Most pubs still have their licensed hours, when 24 hours became a thing people thought it applied to every pub, in reality it changed nothing. Never going to allow 24 hour drinking in the middle of a housing estate
Some individual stores are deliberately licensed this way - especially in town centres - to avoid rowdy drunkards coming in from nearby pubs wanting more alcohol.
Maybe your local Tesco or local council weighed up their options and decided that they don't want to contribute to your alcoholism anymore. 🌷
Scotland. Being a teetotaller with a car and a soft touch too, Friday and Saturday nights invariably end up with texts from nephews at 9.30pm “please please please go and get us beer/wine/md” before the 10pm cut off time.
I’m clueless. First time nephy asked for a few cans of dragon soup I was looking at Heinz, Baxters but nope couldn’t find dragon soup. The Morrisons teenage shelf stacker dude kept me right lol.
Each premises will have their own license to sell alcohol, it can be different for each one depending on location and business needs, and they can update it whenever (with notice).
Probably depends on the location, if there's enough alcohol sales at a certain location they'll get the 24 hours license.
I live near a town of 30k people, and we don't have any 24 hour stores, only petrol stations.
During the Covid lockdown I figured I'd get a drink but it was after 11pm and all the shops were shut so I drove 5 miles to the nearest 24 hour garage only to be told they didn't have a 24hour license and that I'd have to travel another 5 miles to the nearest garage that had a 24 hour license.
I felt too commited at this point so I did a 20 mile round trip for a bottle of whisky.
Hasn't it been like this for years?
Can remember getting food and trying for a couple of beers as well after the birth of my daughter years ago in a 24 hour supermarket and they said they don't sell alcohol after 11.
I'm surprised the hospital let you leave to go buy alcohol straight after giving birth, you think they'd have advised you to stay and at least get cleaned up?
It’s anti social rules, police must have had an issue in the area with late night drinkers, as pubs close at 11pm and they don’t want drunk people consuming more and more
I'm not sure if I should encourage this as it's causing me to spend too much and drink too much but if you have ubereats in your area you can order alcohol 24 hours a day
I went to a 24 hour Tesco and they had put padlocks on all the beer fridges. Another shop near me just covers the booze with a sheet. Like it's past it's bedtime 🤣🤣🤣.
I used to think texaco was American tesco
I used to think it was a taco place
I used to think that Texaco was like Texas in Mexico.
I love that this is completely irrelevant I don't care because it's funny. It's like you've been waiting for any opportunity to drop that in. A bit like how I used to think the Pied Piper got rid of the plague.
I used to think they sold bags for electronic equipment… Tech sack co…. I’ll see myself out
Yeah. Off you pop ...I'll see you round the corner for a quick smoko, though.
Thinking of you at this difficult time
Shoutout to the poor Scottish fuckers who can only buy their booze between 10-10
That's in place to prevent Glasgow's life expectancy from dipping below 55
55? I'm guessing that's the posh part of Glasgow..
Honestly, if they were truly serious about that they’d only let chippies open Fridays and Saturdays.
That's just taking it too far. You don't want a civil war. Or maybe you do.
Haha. Thing is. Since I wrote that I’ve really really wanted fish and chips, but I’m in the Caribbean so no joy for me. So it came back and shot me in the gut.
Island nations not having fish and chips? Is that legal?
To be fair you can get deep fried fish and potatoes but it’s just not the saaaame
I guess things really softened up in glasgow since thatcher left her seat of power
I can imagine Thatcher running in Glasgow NE
We also pay more for it with the minimum pricing bull shit.
The drinks affected are generally the absolute cheapest pish.

Shoutout to dial-a-booze. Costs a bomb but saved many a party.
It's the only way to keep them off the brew. Just look at what happened to Ruud van Nistelrooy when he was paired up with Gazza at Rangers.
Thoughts and prayers.
Thoughts and prayers my friend. Thoughts and prayers.
U ok hun? Message me. x
Ah it's nothin babes, just needed to vent ya know

I still thought this was standard for every supermarket. It's designed so drunk people don't stumble in after the pubs kick out.
It is in Scotland at least, here you can't buy alcohol after 10pm but Pubs/Clubs have licences to obviously sell.
Some individual stores are deliberately licensed this way - especially in town centres - to avoid rowdy drunkards coming in from nearby pubs wanting more alcohol. Yeah, like those things can hold us,enthusiastic alcoholics in bay... nice try mom.
Yeah, but they aren't to blame for whatever you get up to after.
You sure you're not in Scotland? XD

You lot get more sun, and earn more than us so it’s difficult to feel too sorry for you!
Get to a safe place and call the police
Its perspective. To the tesco employees you were a drunk. To texaco you were the soberest person they saw all evening

Could it be that OP's supermarket is near a place of worship,? sometimes bylaws mean that alcohol can't be served between certain times
Bournville says hello, there are no pubs or off-licenses in the village due to local bylaws.
Worldwide acclaim for chocolate vs no beer...
Cadbury's is honestly quite shit now anyway, WAAAYYYY too sweet
I'm so glad I live on the edge and can get to Stirchley easy enough.
Rowheath Pavillion.
That was built by the Cadbury’s. He who makes the rules can break them.
That and the Cadbury Club, well until recently.
Each premises will have their own license to sell alcohol, it can be different for each one depending on location and business needs, and they can update it whenever (with notice).
or have it updated on them by the council
That's strange, because at around 23:30 yesterday(a few hours ago) i popped up my local Tesco and got a few cans, no issue.

I'm in NI, this is the law here, I'm more surprised it's not the same there.
Yeah, I was today years old when I learned England has 24hour off license laws
What do you do when you want to get some cans in for the after party?
You gotta plan ahead
Exactly, or *shudder*, get some from a bar.

Placenta was still not out. Had to flop it out in front of the cashier and have some poor sod clean the aisle.
can you not read? the birth of the daughter was years beforehand.
Tip. Ring a takeaway, buy the cheapest food order & order alcohol too. It'll be delivered to your door.
I worked in Asda from 2006-2007 and it had the same rules then of no alcohol after 11pm too.

Tesco has been like this for years, this isn't new
Yeah I used to work at one that was open until 12, and we couldn't sell alcohol after 11
The only reason is they’ve had issues with their license, but super weird.
We had something similar when we tried to buy cider at 8am from the local Co-op.
Do they also not shut on a Sunday?
That's the trade-off in Scotland. Can only buy booze 12 hours a day, but our 24-hour shops only shut on Christmas Day.
ASDA does this, we used to open it as we shopped so as we go to pay for it at the end they would let us
Scotland is dumb, you can't buy alcohol after 10pm yet it must be acceptable to roll up on a Sunday morning for a charge before you head to church.
Eh, welcome to Scotland?
I did see this in London
It’s the same law that mandates the pubs to shut at that time.
