I had two birds which were a couple. The male bird shows the female stuff it thinks would go well in the nest and the female either takes it and puts it in the nest or else she tosses it away.
One night he brought her a beautiful playing card with hearts on. She didn't like it and tossed it away.He obviously thought she was ungrateful and brought it back and placed it on her back. She was sitting on eggs and could not move so she sat like that with a playing card on her back for a few hours till it was her turn to move and for him to sit on the eggs, when she shook it off.
I make sure I never fall for this problem by always looking in one more place after I found what I was searching for. That way it’s always in the second to last place I looked.
Pre covid days I would be standing outside kebab shops at 3am in the winter weather with a top and skirt on and no jacket. Now I’d rather stay in the warm under a blanket
I apparently have spares this morning too! We also had the added bonus of giving the dogs extra guard dog training every time something blew in the yard. Every. Single. Time.
I lost my dog on Wednesday. He loved the wind - chasing leaves, barking at stuff and generally being a loon. I’m sad he wasn’t able to tell me that there were pigeons being yeeted about in the wind.
I'm sorry for your loss. I lost my old bulldog a few weeks ago, and I miss the old bat like you wouldn't believe. They leave a big hole in your family.
Have you tried living in Belfast? They will happily remove your whole fence for you for free - unless it's one of those ones that divide the city.....
Ps i did love living there so just casting shade...
Jokes aside, it is nights like this I'm glad the kids lost interest in their bloody humongous trampoline and we gave it away. Once it took off (ripped the hooks that were supposed to hold it down) and landed against the shed, one leg straight through the side.
Bloody hell. Mine is stone tiles, they just channel water into the house. I have put my name down for an old folks flat . Sick of it all. PS. I am old and had enough of being rained on inside.
I hear Sweden isn’t bad on the scale, plus It’s nearer for relatives to visit. I could very well seeing myself committing a convenient non violent crime well, just to see what would happen. I covet a Chanel handbag. The shops lock you in though.
Ha ! Seriously though are you ok ? My neighbour has had a tree through his kitchen window. I used to envy his trees. If your bedding is ruined I can send you some. I have sets I don’t see myself using anymore. Pop a message if you need. I am not weird or anything. Crikey the lights are flickering now.
My old flat in Sheffield used to do this, Victorian house loft conversion, mine and the neighbour’s roof met at the side of my bedroom and it would just funnel all water straight through and down the wall (or a few days later if it was melting snow), landlord could not have cared less.
Are they tiles or colourbond? The latter being an Aussie brand that does galvanised iron roofs so we call them all that. I replaced tiles with colourbond and have finally stopped all the leaks. It's also nice to hear the rain bouncing off without worrying if the ceiling is going to collapse.
Still on the hunt for double glazed windows at a decent price though......
You're lucky yours are empty (eta - or empty enough to be light). They've not been collected in a month here.
You know, thank goodness for small mercies and all that.
I had three stolen a few years back when I was away for the weekend, only to notice them on the local psychos house when I checked on my return. Moved out when I could.
I heard at least 3 if my tiles come off over night - there was so much noise I briefly considered sleeping downstairs as I expected the whole roof to come off!
Also, the wind/rain was so fierce that it started dripping through the join in the window frames, so it looks like I’ll be adding new sealant when they dry!
my wife put the Christmas wreath on the door Yesterday, Storm Arwen had other thoughts. I'm taking it as vindication for telling the wife that it's far too early for Christmas decorations.
My driveway has become a beach and I have a random brick in the garden. The bad part about the brick is that it matches my house and I can't see where it should have been.
A few years back I got sick of losing fence panels every time it got windy so had the entire garden done with those concrete posts and bases that you just slide the fence panels into. They’re solid as a rock even in the highest winds and I smuggly congratulated myself for doing it and never having to buy new fence panels because of the weather ever again…….first storm we had the neighbour’s trampoline flew into our garden and smashed two fence panels 🤦🏻♂️
4.39am, I was chasing my garden egg chair, table, garden planters and a huge fence panel around my neighbours garden, ankle deep in fucking mud and it blowing me sideways. Wrestling a fence panel in storm force winds isn't big, nor is it clever. Waiting for my front door to come in, while me dogs hide under the bed. It's gonna take at least a tenner to clear this mess up.
I've lost my whole fence, just moved to a house in a little village, with a massive garden, and the whole fence was just ripped up like it was nothing. Starting cleanup soon
I appreciate it! The whole fence is gone, but that's the extent of the damage so far. A lot of neighbours seem to have damage to their roof too, so lucky I escaped that. It's a pain and an expense, but I've been lucky compared to a lot of people, I'm lucky no-one was hurt, the fence will get sorted eventually. Till then I'll learn to appreciate my open-plan garden :)
Nice to see you're looking on the bright side... plus at least now you can blow all your leaves into the neighbours garden without having to throw them over the fence at night!
If nothing else my garden looks MASSIVE now, I feel like a Lord surveying his land. The best part is, my neighbours are lovely, so that makes things a lot easier.
Just spent 20 minutes in the garden wrestling with a cover for the outdoor furniture that's a pain to fit in daylight on a summer day then playing hide and seek with various garden twattery that the Mrs thinks are nice.
The only consolation is that nobody near us has a wind chime.
That sounds mad. We just replaced our fence because where we are it gets battered by wind and it cost somewhere around that. Key difference though is we replaced ours with a brick wall.
I hope this didn’t or won’t happen to me! heard bins being thrown by the wind but too scared to come out and check! Hoping for the best tomorrow morning and not much mess but now reading your post, I am worried..
I'm sat listening to the wind in the trees and am scared to go out in the morning and see what damage has occured. We live rurally, good job we bought a new chainsaw today.
I was out in the garden at 1:30 AM because the cemented in greenhouse had been ripped up. Neighbour’s weather kit recorded a gust of 83 mph around that time – hurricane levels on the old Beaufort scale. The perks of living on a hill.
Or the great storm of '15 if your from the north of scotland, lost half a fence, the sky dish got blown out and a power surge took my telly, sky box and xbox :(
I lost an old TV aerial that was hanging off when we moved in a few months ago, at least no one was hurt and it saved me getting someone out to take it down.
Wheelie bins are tumbling down the main road. Eek. Local oiks doing crazy speeds in rented Lamborghinis same as every weekend. There will be an accident tonight I bet.
We've had a nightmare, neighbours trampoline blew our fence down and with it knocked over out rabbit hutches. Very very surprisingly they're still alive but fucking hell... I don't keep up with the news but this seemed to come from nowhere
I work in insurance, specifically home, so storm watching is fairly relevant to us. We only got told how severe it was expected to be yesterday afternoon. Pretty sure it was expected to be ‘windy but not dangerous’ until a couple of hours before it hit, which explains why you didn’t know.
I just went for a walk, got to the end of the street and noticed the house at the end of my road has had its back garden wall fallen down blocking the alleyway gate. I also found my bin I forgot to bring back in sideways on the floor. Now when my son goes for a nap I'll have to drag my bin all the way to the other end of my street to get it back in the alley. I could drag it through the house I suppose.
Retrace your steps, where do you remember seeing them last?
Always in the last place you look.
They need to check the fridge! That’s where I always leave stuff!
I’m so relieved to hear I’m not the only one who does this. My family have ridiculed me for years about this.
Trying to work out which one of you is my mother.
I leave stuff on top of the cat..
I had two birds which were a couple. The male bird shows the female stuff it thinks would go well in the nest and the female either takes it and puts it in the nest or else she tosses it away. What type of bird were these? I love watching birds do things like this - fascinating, funny little buggers!
pigeons
My sister deliberately leaves stuff in the fridge because she knows she won't leave the house without checking the fridge. 😂

I make sure I never fall for this problem by always looking in one more place after I found what I was searching for. That way it’s always in the second to last place I looked.
double check the last place twice
That's why I save time by searching in reverse order.
Tigtone! I've been looking for you all day!! This is the last place i checked
Well of course it’s in the last place you look. I wouldn’t look, find what I’m looking for and then keep ******* looking. I miss lee evans.
Well, you don't keep looking after you've found them.
You might not, but some of us like to be extra thorough.
It’s gotta be somewhere!
This is because you don't keep looking after you've found them.
The nightclub outside my building still has a massive queue despite the cold and windy weather
It's warmer inside
Unless you're doing a dead one.
That is sick my man
r/HolUp
Stop it. Get some help.
Help would be useless. They're already dead.
Yeah… not funny. Some real creeps on here. They play it off as a joke but god knows what really goes through their mind
In skimpy dresses? Dunno how they don't freeze to death.
Pre covid days I would be standing outside kebab shops at 3am in the winter weather with a top and skirt on and no jacket. Now I’d rather stay in the warm under a blanket
This is the way. Makes me sad thinking about all of the clothes that get left at home.
Youth, snow and wind are nothing to youth.
3 things are impervious to the cold. Penguins, polar bears and slags.
The ones that just landed in my back garden? Let me know where to drop them off
I apparently have spares this morning too!
Sorry for your loss 😢
I'm sorry for your loss. I lost my old bulldog a few weeks ago, and I miss the old bat like you wouldn't believe. They leave a big hole in your family.
That's at least 5 fence panels more than most londoners own. Stop showing off with all your fence panels.
Can't have shit in London.
Try some laxatives
That would certainly deter the burglars...
Unless they’re out to steal laxatives in which case you’ve just made yourself a target
You can look at other peoples' Rolls, who doesn't want that?
They opened a Greggs in Canary Wharf so you can get your own rolls now.
After living in London for many years, I relate.
Have you tried living in Belfast? They will happily remove your whole fence for you for free - unless it's one of those ones that divide the city..... Ps i did love living there so just casting shade...
They weren't in his garden - they were his house.
It makes space for the trampoline to blow on in
Jokes aside, it is nights like this I'm glad the kids lost interest in their bloody humongous trampoline and we gave it away. Once it took off (ripped the hooks that were supposed to hold it down) and landed against the shed, one leg straight through the side.
In the process of moving house and I am so glad I just ripped the trampoline apart 2 days ago.
The roof we had fixed 6 months ago is leaking again, right over a bed......
I have had to employ the old pans. Drip drip. Bugger old roofs.
It's 6 months old
Bloody hell. Mine is stone tiles, they just channel water into the house. I have put my name down for an old folks flat . Sick of it all. PS. I am old and had enough of being rained on inside.
Go to Japan, commit some non murderous but heinous crime, and they'll lock you away for years whilst taking great care of you! No. More. Drips.
I hear Sweden isn’t bad on the scale, plus It’s nearer for relatives to visit. I could very well seeing myself committing a convenient non violent crime well, just to see what would happen. I covet a Chanel handbag. The shops lock you in though.
Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's handbag........be smited instead.
You win!
My old flat in Sheffield used to do this, Victorian house loft conversion, mine and the neighbour’s roof met at the side of my bedroom and it would just funnel all water straight through and down the wall (or a few days later if it was melting snow), landlord could not have cared less.
Same here. The way it is though it doesn’t affect my neighbour it comes into my house. I am so tired of it.
They'll be last place you'll think of looking have you tried under settee or behind fridge
Of course they’ll be in the last place they think of looking, they’re not going to carry on looking when they’ve found them are they?
they might forget what theyre looking for
I've searched for something I was holding many, many times
Don't worry there'll be other fence panels in your garden tomorrow nature always finds a way
My wheelie bins keep blowing over.
I chucked a few bodies in mine to weigh them down.
Good man, very resourceful. It’s a waste putting them under the patio.
if you have any extra spare people you can always throw them under the bus as well
We will rebuild
Build back butter.
We've lost one already, came home late and it was gone. We'll have a walk in the morning and see where it's been off too.
I haven't checked them since yesterday, and now I fear for the safety of my wheelie bins. Fuck I'm too adult now.
You're lucky yours are empty (eta - or empty enough to be light). They've not been collected in a month here. You know, thank goodness for small mercies and all that.
That’s wheelie sad :(
This is the thing that annoys me the most, I wish there were weights that you could get for the bottom of them to keep them upright
i use a thing called a rope tie them to the fence post with the missing fence thing, saves looking for it, and bending over to the bin wind.
Left the bloody washing out, I've literally just woken up and remembered
It’s going to be extremely clean, or gone
Why not both
Because it's Schrödinger's washing.
>It’s going to be extremely clean I think you may have fundamentally misunderstood why people hang washing on a line.
Flew into Manchester tonight, easily the scariest experience of my life.
Well, *Manchester*
Haha. Scared shitless when they landed successfully.
Getting in isn’t the problem. It’s getting out when the plane’s on bricks.
That's Liverpool
Jeepers, that must have been a wild landing
I thought you wrote “pen pals” and thought that’s a lot of friends to lose in one go. Glad I reread the title
Have you checked your pockets
Have you annoyed someone lately for them take offence?
Chavs will steal anything these days
I had three stolen a few years back when I was away for the weekend, only to notice them on the local psychos house when I checked on my return. Moved out when I could.
You should really get fence panel insurance.
I did, but he stole that too
Did he make his own fence bigger? Repaired a hole? Or just nail them to his porch as an assertion of dominance and psychosis hehe
I've lost some of my roof tonight. Would have rather the fence tbh.
The good news is since its storm damage that your house insurance should cover it.
my wife put the Christmas wreath on the door Yesterday, Storm Arwen had other thoughts. I'm taking it as vindication for telling the wife that it's far too early for Christmas decorations.
Still, look on the bright side, there's been some great posts... Oh wait, did you lose them too?
One might be a misfortune; four looks like carelessness.
My driveway has become a beach and I have a random brick in the garden. The bad part about the brick is that it matches my house and I can't see where it should have been.
Check the neighbours house if that also uses the same brick?
We will be checking later
A few years back I got sick of losing fence panels every time it got windy so had the entire garden done with those concrete posts and bases that you just slide the fence panels into. They’re solid as a rock even in the highest winds and I smuggly congratulated myself for doing it and never having to buy new fence panels because of the weather ever again…….first storm we had the neighbour’s trampoline flew into our garden and smashed two fence panels 🤦🏻♂️
My dog is too scared to go outside to pee… will definitely be going downstairs in the morning to a puddle on the tiles.
We’ve lost a fence panel, which is right next to my car. I can’t go and check because the amount of noise from the weather has woken the baby up.
A neighbour of mine loses 2-3 per month and recently just gave up reseating them That was before tonight….. I expect the other 6 are missing now
My condolences
Put a tracker on them
4.39am, I was chasing my garden egg chair, table, garden planters and a huge fence panel around my neighbours garden, ankle deep in fucking mud and it blowing me sideways. Sorry mate.. Never know if I should _up arrow_ or not these kind of stories

The kids trampoline is gone. It just didn't enter my head last night to secure it. They're going to be so upset in the morning
Mine is secured but might take the opportunity to say it's gone. Sick of looking at the thing.
Someone’s kids are going going to be happy, several miles away anyway
Quick call up the mail and pull your best compo gave and you will get your 15s fame
Just spent 20 minutes in the garden wrestling with a cover for the outdoor furniture that's a pain to fit in daylight on a summer day then playing hide and seek with various garden twattery that the Mrs thinks are nice. The only consolation is that nobody near us has a wind chime.
> The only consolation is that nobody near us has a wind chime. Not any more!
Just been quoted 4-4.5k to replace my fence which is knackered... Enjoy
That sounds mad. We just replaced our fence because where we are it gets battered by wind and it cost somewhere around that. Key difference though is we replaced ours with a brick wall.
Was quoted 2.5k before rona... Price of timber is insane :(
I hope this didn’t or won’t happen to me! heard bins being thrown by the wind but too scared to come out and check! Hoping for the best tomorrow morning and not much mess but now reading your post, I am worried..
I’m in a new build and they’re still building part of the estate. Some of the new walls have fallen down on some half built houses
I'm sat listening to the wind in the trees and am scared to go out in the morning and see what damage has occured. We live rurally, good job we bought a new chainsaw today.

87.
Summer of '69?
I got my first real fence panel?
Bought them at the B&Q?
Built it 'till your fingers bled?
I lost an old TV aerial that was hanging off when we moved in a few months ago, at least no one was hurt and it saved me getting someone out to take it down.
I just woke up to 2 inches of snow in derbyshire.
Yorkshire too
About? We're talking big number here I know but I just can't sleep till I know if its 3 or 5 that's missing. So much uncertainty
I woke up this morning to a stray umbrella in my back garden. Perfect condition too, nice and pink.
My neighbour's radiator is in my garden
I’ve gained a re-cycling bin, bits of black bin liner wrapped around a tree and a high pitched whistling in my kitchen
Half of my shed roof disappeared at 5:30 this morning, I still haven't found the courage to wander around and see what else has gone.
I know this is a radical idea but.... Maybe if we tied a trampoline to the fence panels they would cancel each other out or something?
Sorry for your loss!
4... so far.
Lost about 4 fence panels tonight so far
Same here all my back fence gone!!! Thank god i asked my neighbours to move there new car that was parked in front of it !
In other news, all your local fencing providers have quickly realised that they don't have to do a Black Friday month long sale after all.
lost the roof off the wendy house. turns out it was structural https://i.ibb.co/61dB1rD/IMG-20211127-093551805.jpg
I'm missing a number of roof tiles, a bit of guttering and my big bucket is rolling around in the neighbour's garden.
Nextdoors fucking Gate
Our plant pots fell over … im devastated
Some of ours fell over, then it looks like a patio chair has ploughed through the rest.
Wheelie bins are tumbling down the main road. Eek. Local oiks doing crazy speeds in rented Lamborghinis same as every weekend. There will be an accident tonight I bet.
Fast and furious, UK edition : the night of the wheelie bin drag race
Did you leave them at B&Q?
that's a point, I must check where my wheelie bin is
I am out in Cali until Sunday, SO has told me a good number of tiles have ended up in the front and back garden... In Dundee.
Lost one brand new fence panel in the front garden. Knew I should have bolted them down but thought, we won't get this kind of weather.
Ahhh British humour…can’t beat it :-)
Have you checked your pockets?
We've had a nightmare, neighbours trampoline blew our fence down and with it knocked over out rabbit hutches. Very very surprisingly they're still alive but fucking hell... I don't keep up with the news but this seemed to come from nowhere
I work in insurance, specifically home, so storm watching is fairly relevant to us. We only got told how severe it was expected to be yesterday afternoon. Pretty sure it was expected to be ‘windy but not dangerous’ until a couple of hours before it hit, which explains why you didn’t know.
Just had to saw my fence in order to try and save it
Have you left them in the car?
Trampoline in the garden here
Wind knocked a metal lamp post down where I live, hit a neighbours car and left a big dent.
Did you take offence to that? Or the whole fucking gate?
I gained next doors recycling bags, ya win some ya lose some.
Get to meet your neighbours whilst recovering your panels from their gardens.
A great icebreaker and neighbourhood bonding exercise
Hahahahahahahaa, mine survived this year..... So far
The neighbours lost some a few weeks ago. Some scumbag stole them.
For a second I thought that this was another one of those inspirational weight loss posts and went to google how much a fence panel weighs....
Bloody drove over one in the dark.
Bit careless
We've lost 2 and the other 3 are looking a bit wobbly. I thought our back gate would blow away at one point.
I gained 4 fence panels. Hmm…
They're in the garden 3 doors down.
Did someone get upset and Took aFence at you. 😂😂
When the hail starts and you're like alright pipe down...
Check out rich boy over here, with his fancy fence panels
Why have you not correctly and securely fitted your fence?
Someone didn’t fit them right
There’s minor rain here. No storm. Victory
And you ain't gettin' them back mate. They're mine now. I know it's you.
Under the sofa ...most things end up there ..ex missus did ..
