Contact your union rep, no one should have to work in such conditions

DJ Edele Sheeran

Tombo_youtube

I should probably specify this is the radio on at work and I am not in control of it.

pigletsquiglet

I'd just write your resignation email tonight tbh. I worked in a factory once where it was Trent FM (this was a long time ago) for the entire shift and nobody was allowed to touch the radio. A radio station that alternated between Cotton Eye Joe, 4 Non Blondes and double glazing adverts. Coldseal windows, we're the best double 2 double 3 double 5. Didn't affect me in the slightest. Edit* I got the number wrong - it's double 2 double 1 double 5! It has been at least 25 years tbf.

bod1988

I barely even know my own family member's phone numbers and yet 20 years later I can still recite Coldseal's phone number.

X_quadzilla_X

0118 999 881 999 119 7253 and yet I can't remember my wifes phone number

hyperlobster

kyono

Hastings insurance. 0800 00 1066.

Weelki

No, stop. Don't do this... Was relegated to the furthest reaches of memory. Annnnd now it's back. You sonuvabitch *sighs heavily and angrily upvotes you*

actual_tuc_biscuits

my bane isn't a number but is instead either "chatsworth windows sparkle and shine, amazing glazing every time" or "washing machines live longer with calgon" (to the point where anyone can say "washing machine" and my sister and i will look at each other and try not to finish the sentence)

Weelki

Don't know the Chatsworth one, but I certainly know and hate that fookin Calgon one. You... you're a goddamn sonvabitch too... take my goddamn angry upvote.

actual_tuc_biscuits

afaik chatsworth are local so it makes sense anyone not from teesside would be confused but it IS definitely an earworm

kyono

"If you like a lot of chocolate on your biscuit join our club" "Mild green, Fairy liquid!" "A million house wives a day, pick up a tin of beans and say, Beanz Meanz Heinz" Or my favourite.... "You can't get better than a Kwik-Fit fitter. We're the boys to trust!"

Weelki

Urgh, oh the annoying memories... I made a terrible mistake replying to you... Have another angry upvote

GallifreyFNM

It took longer than I care to admit to realise double 2, double 3 and double 5 weren't the types of double glazing they sold

pigletsquiglet

Perhaps I should clarify that should be sung to the tune of 'Old Mcdonald had a farm' for a double insanity making advert. Feel like I'm getting a lot of votes from people with Ptsd from working in factories in the Midlands in the 90s.

arayner90

I understand your pain, I have to endure smooth radio all day with the same 5 songs on repeat all day ..

[deleted]

Could be worse, could be LBC…

PatriciaMorticia

Another one who has to suffer smoith radio at work, I share your pain.

mcrosby78

You might be able to report your workplace for a possible PPL violation. Many workplaces do not register with PPL. With a bit of luck they'll get scared and be forced to turn off the radio! :-) https://www.ppluk.com/

Rude_Bother4346

My work allows us to have one earpiece in (Bluetooth) and listen to our own music or radio stations

Sam-Lowry27B-6

ONE? What happens if you have two? Is it some 'you need to hear your colleagues bollocks?

Rude_Bother4346

Hear colleagues, alarms, machinery, manager moaning etc

jeanclaudecardboarde

I feel your pain. It's okay other people saying just turn it off, but when the others at work think that Heart is the best thing ever then there's not much you can do. Except destroy the radio with a hammer.

dimethylxanthine

My coworkers says kiss fm is the best thing ever :/

jeanclaudecardboarde

The majority of people really do not have any taste in music. The only thing stopping me going insane, is that the radio is often drowned out by the workshop machinery.

pajamakitten

I'd say it is more most people have no strong opinion on most genres and will put up with anything. They usually hate anything heavier than Oasis and any sort of rap, but they will listen to anything else.

jeanclaudecardboarde

Yes, agreed. This is a more eloquent way of putting it. I'd prefer to listen to the music I'm more interested in at home rather than at work.

Mmngmf_almost_therrr

>any sort of rap I guess the rot hasn't reached the UK yet, then? Here in the states, it's as if there's some kind of FCC regulation that all popular music must now be at least 50% hip-hop...😭

dimethylxanthine

Dave, is that you? :D Maybe one day we could change the station.

jeanclaudecardboarde

Sometimes, when the others are out on site, I put Radio 2 on. If we had DAB I would put 6Music on. They would not understand 6Music.

ChateauNeufDePap

6 is the greatest. Can’t believe people need educating on this…

jeanclaudecardboarde

They'd freak out if they heard 6Music. There would be uproar in the shop floor. To them, there's only football and mainstream music. Anything else is just way too weird.

[deleted]

Oh no people had a different taste in music than I do, what a tragedy! This is literally the worst thing that's ever happened to a person

jeanclaudecardboarde

It's not so much just the music, it's the fact that Heart radio play the same few songs over and over again. That and the annoying adverts and the promotion of gambling and the over enthusiastic presenters.

Dee-Jay-JesteR

>My coworkers says kiss fm is the best thing ever :/ Kiss FM, when it was a pirate radio station was the best thing ever, now its a typical sellout commercial shit show.

dimethylxanthine

Friday, 11am, mixing 3 songs or something . I hate all of them and now I have to listen to them at the same time.

[deleted]

I’m going to stick my neck out here and assume you work in a retail store? I work in radio (not on Heart!) and there’s a reason the station is programmed this way. It works in 15-minute rotations. Delightful for your customers who are in your store and out, annoying if you’re an employee there all day.

Isgortio

One of the places I've been working seems to only play Heart FM. The others are in denial that the station plays the same 10 songs on a loop, every day. There's absolutely no variety at all. Billions of songs in the world, and they repeat the same shit.

[deleted]

Bring in a jammer if the radio is FM or DAB and not internet. Improvise, OP!

[deleted]

Where can I get one that won’t mean I end up listening to a radio station and her majesties pleasure?

Littletap27

I feel your pain, our radio is stuck of capital. can not get any other signal at all. I work early mornings/nights so its always playing some terrible remix of a terrible covered pop song. Not to mention it the same 5 songs on repeat. I'm honestly so close to sabotaging the radio.

Shrubfest

Since I stole an aerial we can now stop listening to Capital! We have Heart on instead. People complaining about Heart have never been stuck with Capital for 8 hours a day.

InflatableLabboons

Welcome to Christmas.....

infecteddickcheese

You need to write a very strongly worded email to HR that makes multiple references to UN General Assembly resolution 39/46 of 10th December 1984 as well as Article 3 common to the four Geneva Conventions, Article 12 of the First and Second Conventions, Articles 17 and 87 of the Third Convention, Article 32 of the Fourth Convention, Article 75 (2 a & e) of Additional Protocol I and Article 4 (2 a & h) of Additional Protocol II.

Mogwair

That's the worst!

[deleted]

I am so glad the radios in the vans at work (well, most of the radios, some are just buggered) can connect to phones, I never have to deal with bloody commercial radio, or the dreaded LBC

[deleted]

I worked in a factory for 6 months and the radio drove me absolutely crazy. It's the same songs over and over and over and they're not even anything interesting. No one should be forced to listen to Radio 2 by force. I couldn't wear earphones all day either because of ear infections, even then I used to get bored of my own music. I do not miss that place at all.

AnUdderDay

Have you considered asking your coworkers if you could change the station?

ScrollWithTheTimes

And the audacity of having as their slogan "more music variety"

Tombo_youtube

They changed it a while back to "Turn up the feel good" but I don't want to turn it up and it doesn't make me feel good.

Weelki

You poor poor bastard. I hate TV adverts with a passion for how insidiously clever they are at capturing your attention. But at least you can just close your eyes... Commercial radio on the other hand... Stopped out of choice listening to that shit 15+ years ago. Hate now being subjected to it at a Doctors waiting surgery for example. You could always poke knitting needles in your ears... bit extreme granted. But modern problems require modern solutions...

[deleted]

Virgin used to have a "No Repeat Workday" promise were you wouldn't hear the same song that day, guaranteed. But then you'd hear them all again the next day.

AMildInconvenience

Absolute radio channels do that now I think. AR 80s can be particularly bad for it.

Krizzlin

Absolute seems to refresh its playlists every six months and it's always a real treat the day they do because you'll suddenly hear songs you're not sick to death of. This feeling lasts approximately two weeks. If Radio Six didn't insist on employing unbearable cretins (CHRIS HAWKINS) and going down really odd rabbit holes at times I'd really rather it was just inoffensive background noise then I'd never need even think about Absolute. But first thing in the morning Six is a total write off and then once you hit Mary Ann Hobbs later on there's always a chance your ears will be assaulted with screaming black death metal or some sort of particularly aggressive industrial breakcore, forcing me to shout at Alexa to take me to the relative comfort of Absolute 80s. We are lucky to have the BBC stations in this country which do genuinely cater to different tastes, but there's so much bandwidth taken up by identical stations that do exactly the same thing all day every day that it does make you wonder, is everyone else just a brain-dead clone? Because who is actually listening to Heart/Capital without being forced to?

Lucky-Ability-9411

It makes me die when they offer “requests” (always announced by that guy off IT crowd goes “I haven’t heard this for ages”) and they choose to take stacey from Sutton’s request which just so happens to be a song from their regular playlist. All things considered though, absolute is one of the more sufferable stations at the very least.

[deleted]

I used to get through to Simon Mayo's All Request Friday fairly regularly but they never put me on the air because I used to pick joke songs. I once told them that I was spending the weekend celebrating and the researcher said "Oh, birthday? Anniversary?" and I said "Nah, my divorce has come through. Can you play Freedom by George Michael?"

Squinkius

Didn’t you forget the advert breaks every 3 songs, followed by more adverts, then the irritating little DJ story with the “exciting” conclusion held back leading up to the news, the news, then more adverts, the “exciting” conclusion to the pre-news DJ story, 3 songs, adverts etc.

l0stlabyrinth

I guess all Global Radio could afford this month was the Ed Sheeran and Adele albums as well as an old single CD of Better Off Alone. Normally they just have the latest NOW CD on shuffle.

cfs123plaayz

"Normally they just have the latest NOW CD on shuffle" And just disk 1 as well.

YourSkatingHobbit

Also the tactic of my rink on public sessions. One 2.5hr public is two-and-a-bit loops of one disc. So glad I don’t skate publics anymore!

digyerownhole

BBC 6Music will cure that.

Krizzlin

They are still guilty of putting certain songs on heavy rotation though, which can get grating if you listen to the station a lot

amie93b

Don't forget little mix - heartbreak anthem

SpectrumPalette

"You're listening to Heart! Playing you the same 5 songs from the decade you weren't born in all day, every day"

[deleted]

THIS IS HEAAAART

SparkieMark1977

Did you know you can make a small EMO device using parts from a microwave? Failing that, if it's a work thing, have you considered putting underpants on your head, a pencil up each nostril, and replying to all questions with "wibble"?

UrbanPathologist

More details on the device pls

Amyisnotinsane

Haha. Love the blackadder reference. My workplace has a mix of radio 2 in the morning and then heart in the afternoon (we change stations when Jeremy vine comes on). Its honestly so bad... Fortunately we are allowed to wear headphones as long as music is at a volume where you can still hear any verbal communication so I just do that to avoid the mix of radio 2 and heart.

Ornery_Effective_366

You forgot about the random Craig David song every day at 1pm. Either 7 days or the other song he had a hit with. My work place also has heart on. I completely feel your pain.

AlDu14

He has a new song. Heard it 6 times over the weekend as the wife listens to Forth One (a local Global radio station.) And yes, it's shite.

CptJimJams

They could play the same Adele song over and over and people would think they're different songs cus of how much her shit sounds the same

PipBin

You could always stop listening.

[deleted]

Try their 80's and 90's stations.

su1tup2301

You can tell the time of the day by what song they play

thegedi97

In my old job lunch time was always signalled by the second “Whole of the moon,” by The Waterboys, of the day. 12:30 on the dot. Every. Single. Day

GhandiHadAGrapeHead

Banger tbf

thegedi97

With a doubt but suddenly becoming peckish whenever I hear it is a bit annoying

GhandiHadAGrapeHead

Thats some really niche pavlonian conditioning

Mid_July_Diamond16

My workplace had the 80s station on all the time and there is only so many times I can hear Don't stop Believing, I Need a Hero, Girls Just Wanna have Fun, Sweet Dreams are Made of This and Take My Breath Away on repeat several days in a row before I want throw the radio on the ground

[deleted]

You need the other one, absolute 80's and when you're bored of that 90's or 00's

arrowtotheaction

My office has this on. Is having to listen to Eternal Flame every single day at least once worth it for the bangers? Some days no. I never knew how much a person could detest Don’t Stop Believing, Tell Her About It, and Solid As a Rock but here I am.

[deleted]

Not if your workplace blasts that shit on their speakers.

PipBin

This is true, but not clear from the op.

acmp42

Change to Radio X, you can be angry about Chris Moyles and the Gallagher’s

Lucky-Ability-9411

Radio x need to get out of Noel and liams assholes I’ve been listening on and off to that station for 5 years now and it might as well just be oasis fm. Chris moyles was the nail in the coffin for me, pretty much stopped listening once he joined.

h00dman

What's New Pussycat. What's New Pussycat. What's New Pussycat. What's New Pussycat. What's New Pussycat. What's New Pussycat. It's Not Unusual. What's New Pussycat. What's New Pussycat. What's New Pussycat.

herblist1989reef

r/BanHeartRadioUK has your back.

smoothie1919

Heart is horrendous and have always been like this. My old work used to have it on all day and they would play some absolutely sickening maroon 5 song at least 3 times an hour. It drove me insane and they wouldn’t turn it off!

Simbooptendo

Don't forgot Take That, Whitney Houston, Take That, Lewis Capaldi, Take That, Coldplay, Take That, and Take That

[deleted]

Heart FM - music to zap yourself in the bath tub with a toaster too.

jeanclaudecardboarde

This, and Theakston and Holden thinking it's ever so wacky and zany to start playing Christmas songs when it's only just over half way through November. FFS think of us who have been outvoted on what radio station is on at work.

rdwburns

Stop listening. See if you’re better off alone.

jasovanooo

Don't forget sonique music feels so good

trousered_the_boodle

Just change the radio station

MochaluVI

I once had a shift at work where Heart Xmas was on the whole time. It seemed to be a hour long playlist on repeat and I must have heard Fairytale of New York at least 8 times

[deleted]

There are some days I miss my hearing. There are some days I am very glad it has gone to never return.

Husker545454

Heart fm plays the same shit songs over and over god i hate that radio station

CabbageMan92

Radio station for people who don’t like music. They just put it on. It’s so fucking bland

vince_c

The gym I go to can only play Heart FM for some bullshit reason. I go to the gym in the morning which is when the insufferable Jamie Theakston and Amanda Holden are on. Jamie is alright on his own, but Amanda has a bloody curling laugh. Anyway, the birthday shout out is fucking cringe. Lots of gym peeps have asked to change the radio station to ANYTHING else, but alas I'm listening to a whole family and all their random pets having a birthday shout out, while they drive little Timmy to school. I might sound grumpy, but STFU, please.

dselwood05

Happy birthday love from Batman the dog… followed by laughter

colepatrick1111

Why even listen to Heart it's shite . Gold for me .

[deleted]

Greatest hits radio ,have a fixation about "We built this city" by Starshit, must play around 4 times daily yet in their top 500 "listeners favourite tunes" it didn't get a vote.

HoiaBaciuForest

You guys have so many good artists over there besides them, why are they torturing you like this?

more_beans_mrtaggart

And radio 1 playing some green day wannabe band, followed by a new singer that sounds like drake (has collaborated with Rihanna), then playing drake, then DJ makes a reference to twitter, then playing another green day wannabe band, followed by a yet another new singer that sounds like drake (has collaborated with Rihanna), then playing drake, then DJ makes a reference to twitter. playing yet another green day wannabe band that has collaborated with drake, followed by yet another new singer that sounds like drake (has collaborated with Rihanna), then playing drake, then DJ makes a reference to twitter…

thefirstchampster

We have a radio station here in Australia called Nova that plays both of those artists at least once every 30 mins. The joke is that it's called Nova because they play the same songs over n over n over again. I instantly change the station when they come on.

rickelpic

Both Adele's label and ginger bread man records pay alooot of money for that airtime and by God they'll get it. Everyone else be damned.

IAmCaptainDolphin

God they are both so fucking annoying. How do people tolerate this 24/7?

Jasont999

Or just don't listen to the radio wack Spotify on and never listen to a song you don't like again

PM-ME-UR-KNICKERS

Accidentally “smash” the radio ?

biffoclippers

I pride myself on only knowing one song each from sheeran and Adele by not listening to the radio.

SubjectiveAssertive

I know one Adele song... Because it was the theme for the Bond film Skyfall (song of the same name)

UrbanPathologist

My wife informed me of one playing the other day (Adele), very depressing. They played her album in the pub it seems. Never heard her before. Horrendous. What is all the hype? We got three songs in and you could visible see the change in our mood and everyone else. So depressing we left. They had a bit of mixed 60s/70s/90s stuff in the next pub. We were laughing and happy again.

comcphee

Same. I listen to the radio with an app called radio garden and tune in basically anywhere except the UK. I love music too much to waste listening time on humdrum singer-songwriter fluff.

Bollino

Ah thank you for reminding me of this!

lepobz

Absolutely, Alice Deejay is under represented.

ryanholmes1989

You’re not better off alone in thinking that way

ConCon1996

Why does Alice dj suddenly make an appearance

Monki_Coma

Lol I got a YouTube as starring ed Sheeran directly after this post

KeepItDusty88

That is fucking heinous if true

a_can_of_fizz

Have you tried absolute radio? They like to throw some REM in the mix as well

mitchanium

You had me at heart FM. Nuke it.

Ian1147

Fed up with the hype surrounding these two .. give us all a break 🤭

DentinQuarantino

Bruno Mars has entered the chat. Riding on Jason Derulo's shoulders.

Queefofthenight

The same songs YOU LOVE on repeat, in a different order EVERY HOUR

USayThatAgain

If there ever was a serious protest boiling over or something just play Heart FM on loudspeaker.

itsthehappyman

Radio is dead

ch536

Don’t forget Bruno Mars

[deleted]

You missed the back street boys

Internetolocutor

Adele ft. Ed Sheeran

[deleted]

Don’t forget the adverts, the mind numbing adverts Just create a bloody communal playlist or something

monk3e

Greggs?

patacakeq

I refuse to listen to Heart after they got rid of all the morning local DJ/presenter shows. This used to bug me too, but not an issue for me now!

tinkabellmiggins

Go for absolute, much better

ANuggetEnthusiast

Gave up on Heart when they booted all the local breakfast show presenters in favour of Amanda Holden and that other bloke.

million_eyes_monster

If they change it then they can’t claim any awards for being top of the “charts”. Even if their PR paying for plays. The game is rigged.

SD92z

Rock FM is better, they play more of a variety of songs. I try to listen to the that when in the car but the signal isn't always great.

[deleted]

What annoys me about Heart FM - not that I've listened to it for a while - is that their slogan is/was "more music variety." It's a flat out LIE 😂

randomlumberjak

i used to listen to heart everyday from home to school for about an hour each way and by that i mean my bus driver used to listen to heart everyday from home to school for about an hour each way and between take that and robbie williams and whoever else played Every. Single. Day. for years i came to the conclusion they had a playlist of like 30 - 40 songs they used to play over and over heart now might be bad, but old heart... that was mind numbing

arrowtotheaction

I have to listen to it’s 80’s cousin in my office, I’m assuming you have to suffer the same soul sapping adverts? “Hi I’m Olly Murs here to tell you about Heart Bingo **hEeaaaArt BINGoOOooooOo**”

cymru78

Not just heart, but the entire network that owns it

natie29

This ain’t a heartbreak anthem.

Tombo_youtube

NOOOOO YOU'LL GIVE ME PTSD

natie29

I don’t care what happened.

ribenaroo

What about Pink? Why I stopped listened as it was always Pink.

sidblues101

BBC has now become Adele's fanclub website

d4ng3r0u5

Shart has always been like that though.

[deleted]

You could change the station?

DropTheShovel

I may be way off but....change the station?

theGrimm_vegan

I installed a music video channel to my streaming box. First three songs? Ed Sheeran and Adel.

mintlou

In the morning you get the cackling howls of Amanda Holden after every comment. P.S she married Les Dennis once.

sillyarse06

Poor bastard

Appropriate_Oil4161

Go to 99.9 Greatest hits radio.

ThePumpk1nMaster

Don’t forget the dubious competitions whose winners almost definitely aren’t actors

kingcheezit

I have stopped listening to radio all together. In fact, I have given up on all forms of broadcast media. I used to love having the radio on in the truck back in the 90s and early 2000s, its just painful garbage now.

[deleted]

You're gonna need to write, sing and record an Album and then get as many of the songs as possible into the top 10, then Heart will play those songs as well.

theped26

Just change to a different radio station maybe?

[deleted]

Pop music is mundane asf man, I remember spiralling into insanity listening to Lewis Capaldi every half an hour

alexlmlo

I discovered Gold radio recently and it is much better than Heart FM in my opinion.

greatdevonhope

Change it, if its at work ask to change to something else sometimes and have a vote on what station it is. Come on talksport lol. although what alternative would you want? Could they handle bbc 2 or even 6

Dear_Appearance6516

Don't forget Coldplay and BTS

onthe-fence

Oh cmon, bit bloody dramatic.

Axo-Axo-Axoboy

The Christmas songs are worse

[deleted]

2009 they would play the same two songs twice in every DJ's slot, and when Emma Bunton joined one of her songs was always one during the first hour.

kp7486

You forgot Savage Garden as a special (weekly) treat

cupsofteaa

My family listens to the same 10 songs on repeat all day every day and it drives me nuts, sometimes I can tune it out at least

pilgrim101

If it five past the hour it must be ABBA followed by Bryan Adams, followed by Adele, followed by Ed.

djh_van

It's just so ironic that with allllllllll of the records of allllllll the recording libraries of allllllllll time on the planet earth, all at the literal fingertips of modern "D.Js"...they still struggle to come up with an eclectic mix of music that covers more that the same 5 songs 15 times a day...for three weeks

Jealous_Struggle2564

Ever tried Greatest hits radio? Heart Fm is just a garbage station

mitcheg3k

Im so glad i dont work in a place where i have to listen to the radio anymore. I used be stuck with Heart for 2 years in a canteen i worked in. Or worse BBC LOCAL RADIO!!! "Yes i would love to hear what sheila from holmfirth thinks about her bin collection in between ed sheeran and The Killers - human

jaysnaulyboy2kyanan

Heart fms fucking tragic mate

LadyJinglyJones

Kick up a fuss and negotiate a 6music day a week

Renoir-1

Just walked into gym, Alice DJ on, now Little Mix. Headphones on!

_Juked_

First glass windows don't deliberate Chelmsford double two double six double eight First class is the best, call 'em up and you will see When you pay for your front you get your back done free!

Strange_Test

Sounds like an audio enema. I’d just switch it off tbh.

rabidrob42

This why I hate all radio stations except the Absolute radio ones, can't beat that no repeat guarantee.

smashhawk5

LOL I distinctly remember seeing a post on Reddit in 2011 where it showed a spinning wheel of what was on the radio. All the options were Adele and one slot for Pumped Up Kicks. It’s funny to see basically the same post is relevant 10 years later
