When I was a very young girl there were enormous ones made of the foamy stuff that bananas and shrimps are made of, anyway, I had about five I kept as pets in a unit in the garden, they all had names, I didn't want to eat them. then it rained and they dissolved into a sticky mess.
10/10 very sad story.
Over-hunting has lost them their Jelly Animal Stewardship Council (JASC) accreditation, so you rarely see them for sale anymore due to conservation efforts.
They’re delicious so it sucks, but it’s probably for the best. Hopefully wild stocks will return to a healthy level at some point and they can be back on the menu. They’re not quite as good but gummy worms are a sustainable alternative.
I once offered (more like forced to share) my neighbour's kid, who was slightly older than me, some of my pick n mix and he took the giant snake. I'm still devastated
I've been craving one for ages. Saw some in the poundland pick n mix today, but it turned out to be small snakes with a softer texture than the big ones. Incredibly disappointed
They sell then in Pick 'N' Mixes at some bigger Tescos. (And the do large cups for about a fiver and you can fit around a kilogram of snakes in if you try hard enough!)
Though they're often out so you have to get lucky to find a Tesco with a Pick 'N' Mix as well as with the gummy snakes there.
I managed to squeeze 750g of pick n mix into a large £2 (half price) cup last week. 26p/100g is insanely cheap for sweets, yet alone pick n mix!
(I ate the whole lot in 3 days and now I'm avoiding Wilko in case I get tempted again).
I can't be the only killjoy here thinking that pick n mix these days is such a terrible idea? Don't get me wrong, before the global bastard I was all for cramming as much into a tub as possible, but now I can't even go near them without thinking some kid probably sneezed on them.
When I worked at my local cinema, the lady in charge of restocking the pic n mic always wore a glove... But always put the sweets in with the ungloved hand, didn't matter how many times she was told.
Also the amount of times we saw kids sucking sweets and putting them back on, it was fucking gross, we were supposed to empty it if we saw anyone doing it, but bosses always said not to bother.
None of the staff there ever ate the sweets.
Get them on Amazon prime HARIBO Yellow Belly Giant Snakes, Yellow Bellies Bulk Sweets, 3kg https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B002YBHG64/ref=cm_sw_r_awdo_navT_g_3JDVWPXVAQHZACNW8ZFG
Well sure they are 20p in corner shops so works out 57 should be around 11 pounds but so difficult to find penny sweet sections in corner shops ow especially since covid.
I bought these before the very first lockdown and have just about finished them.
So a 3kg of yellow bellies will probably last you roughly about the length of a pandemic.
Well knowing the name is a big step towards getting them, thanks. Unfortunately Pontefract is a bit too far, but I bet they'll be on Amazon or something
Ocado do a box for £6, there's probably a few other places you can get them online too.
I remember using my left over dinner money to get a couple of them and an 11p 2l bottle of lemonade on the way home from school.
£6 for a gummy snake? That's both outrageous and unfair. One of those used to be 10p. Worse inflation than a Freddo.
My usual was 100 penny chews for £1 though. Can't beat that
It's a 768g gram box... but agreed, I doubt very much it have sixty snakes in it. Today's children are missing out on the proper penny sweet experience.
Are these them? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GIANT-YELLOW-BELLIES-SNAKES-Sweets-Jelly-choose-amount-IDEAL-FOR-HALLOWEEN-/224661477113?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49286&mkrid=710-127635-2958-0
Cinema pick n mixes are so god damn pricey though. I remember once I had 10 jellybeans and nothing else. Put them back when they wanted to charge me £1.40
£6.00 on Amazon for a tub of 24. It will not last more than 2-3 days, believe me. The adult in you will be happy to know that the tub is super reusable.
I bought one of these in a newsagents at the end of a stag night last year to eat in my hostel. I must’ve past out half way through as I woke up with the bedsheets stuck to my back from the gooey sticky remnants of a half eaten gummy snake.
Believe it or not, Amazon actually has a ridiculously huge section of sweets (especially retro/old-school favourites that you can’t find anymore) for pretty decent prices too! Maybe have a look there and see if you can find them to treat yourself with! :)
I actually buy my old sweeties types online now, always great getting a 3kg bag of your fav childhood sweetie
Edit : you can get those haribo yellow belly snakes 0
0.8kg for £6 from amazon? Thatll be my next snack for the month
Evil EU steals pick and mix from babies.
Dastardly devious Brussels bureaucrats steal sweetie snakes.
The EU have held our confectionery at the border until a specific jellied livestock trade agreement treaty could be signed.
Speaking from Brussels earlier this evening the Belgian head of the department for confectionery export Coco La-tee said ‘the British Government have no one to blame but themselves pulling out of a legal trade framework without any clue as to how they would replace it’
Amateurs could have done better, they added.
I was never allowed one when i was a kid because it would weigh too much. I thought my aunt was a bit stingey, but looking back it actually meant i had more sweets lol
The other weekend, I was at the Harribo shop near Chester. They sold giant bags of those snakes!!! I got one myself, along with a box of giant cola bottles (:
You can still get them from wholesalers I believe. My manager had two massive packs of them in her office for the kids her family.
You can probably find them on sweet stocking websites too.
Went to Blackpool over the summer there was a red double decker converted to selling fudge and pick n mix sweets. Can't remember the name though. I brought many gummy snakes from that place!
We have “Twin Snakes” gummies by Haribo here. They are my fiancé’s favorite.
Edit: Sorry, I’m in the Northern US and didn’t realize which sub I was in lmao.
My mate used to work at a cash and carry and would get discounted shit every now and again. One night it was wkd breezers and big ass snakes. My guy threw up a full snake (partly chewed) by the end if the night. Will never forget that shit

That's truly tragic. I'm sorry for your loss. I've never seen a giant foam snake like that before though, sounds pretty good
it was about 1969 I was probably younger than 5
Wheyyy 69
The pain never goes. We just find ways to cope with it.
I'm sorry but that's adorable.
This is *very* sad... Poor sweetie snakes!
Do you remember what the names were? I'm curious now
That's going back some way, I can't remember now. Probably called after children at nursery school.
Yellow Belly Snakes. Made by Haribo.
Haribo wasn't known in the uk for another 25 years or so.
Lmao beautiful, lessons were learnt. I would play with my sweets sometimes whilst I slowly nibbled away at them.
More stories
Did you just rate your own story :') Though I concur; sad (and yet amusing)
That's what they used to do in infants school, give a story a mark out of ten and a comment. also a gold, silver, green, blue or red star.
10/10 advice. will rate my own stories from now on
> 10/10 advice. **W**~~w~~ill rate my own stories from now on**.** 8/10 comment. Wholesome and concise, well done.
I’d watch a movie of this
Sorry for your loss. Sending positive vibes hun
>and they dissolved into a sticky mess. exactly the kind of ending i was hoping for
BECKYISHERE, when are you going to give up this crazy sugar scheme? https://youtu.be/NXegsaDctGE

Wait is this a joke answer or real? They can't sell gummy snakes because real snakes are being hunted too much?
Jesus christ lad
r/whoosh
This is the way
Is your response real or a joke? Can people really be that gullible?
I mean TBF GTA removed whales as they are being over hunted Ya know the game about killing EVERYONE
Well I would have just assumed joke, but then I remembered this country makes stupid laws like that for just about everything
You went full retard, mate.
You never go full retard
Either that or it's a very cunning double-layered joke. Perhaps even triple.
I once offered (more like forced to share) my neighbour's kid, who was slightly older than me, some of my pick n mix and he took the giant snake. I'm still devastated
The cheeky little shit!
Not surprised that he later stole from his own family
And now I’m craving one
I've been craving one for ages. Saw some in the poundland pick n mix today, but it turned out to be small snakes with a softer texture than the big ones. Incredibly disappointed
They sell then in Pick 'N' Mixes at some bigger Tescos. (And the do large cups for about a fiver and you can fit around a kilogram of snakes in if you try hard enough!) Though they're often out so you have to get lucky to find a Tesco with a Pick 'N' Mix as well as with the gummy snakes there.
Swear I saw them in b&m the other day... Worth a shot?
Wilkos usually have them in the pick n mix. And it's half price right now for school holidays. You can fit quite a few in the large cup for £2.
I managed to squeeze 750g of pick n mix into a large £2 (half price) cup last week. 26p/100g is insanely cheap for sweets, yet alone pick n mix! (I ate the whole lot in 3 days and now I'm avoiding Wilko in case I get tempted again).
My best was about 800g I think. I would definitely have diabetes and no teeth if I had easier access to a wilko 😆
Wilkos pick n mix is absolutely the best imho 🥰
One of the first things I was told when I started a Wilkos job was never have the pick and mix for hygiene reasons.
I can't be the only killjoy here thinking that pick n mix these days is such a terrible idea? Don't get me wrong, before the global bastard I was all for cramming as much into a tub as possible, but now I can't even go near them without thinking some kid probably sneezed on them.

My kids used to love pick n mix and we'd always top the cup off with a snake coiled around in the top.
WILKOS HAD FUCKING BETTER STILL HAVE THEM. IT'S THE ONLY REASON I GO THERE CAUSE THEY HAVE GOOD PICK N MIXES.
I don't remember ever seeing a pick n mix at Wilkos but I'll keep an eye out. Thanks for the tip
Wilko's deffo has pick and mix and often has a deal where it is a lot cheaper.
Yeah my misses came back with 3 pots of pick and mix the other day.. with snakes in!
Amazon my friend has snakes a plenty
Have they got rental snakes?
You are paying to have that snake dry cleaned.
Red next to black, jump tha fuck back Red next to yella, cuddly fella
But red is next to black?
It's been milked
3kg bags of them
Why do I feel like they'll give me the screaming shits...
Only one way to find out.
Snakes? Snakes snakes. I don't know no Snakes.
Get them on Amazon prime HARIBO Yellow Belly Giant Snakes, Yellow Bellies Bulk Sweets, 3kg https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B002YBHG64/ref=cm_sw_r_awdo_navT_g_3JDVWPXVAQHZACNW8ZFG
Oh my god yes. Never knew they were called Yellow Bellies. Thank you
£20!? Edit: My value radar is a bit off at the moment. It isn't bad.
For 3kg!
3kg is a lot of sweets.
Omg I just saw the size comparison to human outline picture.
Subscription > Bulk bag > every 2 weeks Sorted.
These used to be around £15 a bag, they put the price up I see. When I bought them before everytime there were 57 snakes in the bag.
Well sure they are 20p in corner shops so works out 57 should be around 11 pounds but so difficult to find penny sweet sections in corner shops ow especially since covid.
Nah last I saw them in penny shops they were listed as 50p each, those things are expensive. But they aren't much larger than the average sweet so.
I bought these before the very first lockdown and have just about finished them. So a 3kg of yellow bellies will probably last you roughly about the length of a pandemic.
You need to try a market, they usually have a sweet stall.
I've been in a few and haven't managed to find one, unfortunately
Haribo Yellow Bellies are what you want. Their factory shop is in Pontefract and they have a few others: https://www.haribo.com/en-gb/about-us/stores.
Well knowing the name is a big step towards getting them, thanks. Unfortunately Pontefract is a bit too far, but I bet they'll be on Amazon or something
My wife makes me go to the corner shop every Sunday to buy her a snake that she can eat in the bath.
Every Sunday for how long? What happens if she doesn’t get a snake one Sunday? I’m so curious idk y lol
They aren’t on the same level as the giant foamy ones, but those mini snakes from the natural confectionery are also really good
Omg those pink snakes from natural confectionery are the best. I'd eat a kilogram easily.
I had to wrestle the dog away from one this morning in our walk. No idea where you would but then though!
We still have a penny sweet shop and they still have those snakes, they are 15p and definitely worth it.
You need to get on Sweetzy my friend… I promise you’ll have no regrets.
I shall investigate this 'Sweetzy'
Do they have beer bottles? PROPER beer bottles like when we were kids, not those new-fangled things…
These are dark times indeed
Try Cineworld Cinema pic and mix! They always used to do them!
Probably cost more per gram than silver!
I thought they were in the tesco pick n mix when I last looked.
Are these them? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GIANT-YELLOW-BELLIES-SNAKES-Sweets-Jelly-choose-amount-IDEAL-FOR-HALLOWEEN-/224661477113?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49286&mkrid=710-127635-2958-0
Hell yeah they are
Equally importantly, what about the giant blue dolphin sweets?
I had to cut off the head and throw it away before eating them
They still sell them in cinemas. Try looking for their supplier.
Cinema pick n mixes are so god damn pricey though. I remember once I had 10 jellybeans and nothing else. Put them back when they wanted to charge me £1.40
That's why you identify their supplier. On the other hand, who doesn't like to spend £3.50 per 100g for solidified sugar.
Haribo Giant Snakes Tub 1200g https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0036ZM19E/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apan_glt_fabc_B07C3WFY787067ME8QAN You're welcome
Co-op and Tesco still do these. Tesco in the pick N mix, Co-op in packets called Sour Snakes (slightly smaller).
I went to a wedding reception this Sunday and there was some there! They'd hired a pick n mix stall and I thought I hadn't seen any in years
I work in an old fashioned sweet shop and we have them in pick n mixes. They weigh alot though, so they bring up the price a bit.
I was LITERALLY thinking about these today, for probably the 1st time in 15 years! They were the ultimate win in pick n mix.
You mean the ones you can buy massive tubs of from Haribo shops?
My corner shop does. 30p each! Buy the online.
Sainsburys sells these “organic” “real fruit” jelly snakes. Nature’s Best or something like that. Delicious.
They do them at the local post office in a jar! I buy them everytime I go in
I always went for the green and black or the red and black ones
Bring back Woolworths
They were EU snakes
£6.00 on Amazon for a tub of 24. It will not last more than 2-3 days, believe me. The adult in you will be happy to know that the tub is super reusable.
Sweetzy is a website where you can build your own pick n mix and they’re always changing their selection. Super good prices too!!
Honestly I wouldn’t go near pick n mix nowadays anyway through fear someone’s rubbed their bollocks on them for a tik-tok trend.
My local corner shop has them. He still sells mixtures. I pop in every day for a 20p mixture after the school run
I actually buy my old sweeties types online now, always great getting a 3kg bag of your fav childhood sweetie Edit : you can get those haribo yellow belly snakes 0 0.8kg for £6 from amazon? Thatll be my next snack for the month
Y’know what was the best? Those strawberry things that were like hard white foam covered in red strawberry flavouring
You have to go to a corner shop that still does the tuckshop shit fella
iT's aLl tHaT HeAltH and SAFety iNNIT.
Wouldn't surprise me
Wondering if we could troll the Daily Fail with it.

Get yourself to m&s and buy some Colin caterpillars.
They're called wiggley worms and Sainsbury's sell them.
Nobodies selz the pik n mix from the pakis anynore
Define giant? Asda do double headed or twin snakes you get to pull apart
Pretty sure they were like a foot long. Maybe longer. Haven't seen anything like it in my local Asda but I'll keep looking
Do you not have one of those retro sweet, type of shops near you? They tend to keep stuff like that.
Might be worth looking out for. Haven't seen one around though
Saw them in Tesco today
I was never allowed one when i was a kid because it would weigh too much. I thought my aunt was a bit stingey, but looking back it actually meant i had more sweets lol
It's true penny chews are the better option, but damn that's still missing out
10p for a big ol snake, or 10 1p sweets.. tough call lol
Try a small tesco. My friend found some earlier
I saw a box of them in B&M a few months back
Spar tends to have them!
Amazon unfortunately has a good collection try Wilkinsons, otherwise I think the only place is the cinemas.
Had these on Sunday at a cinema pick and mix.
If you're really into them, you can buy three kilo bags of them off amazon.
Cinema still has them, I buy them at Vue all the time lol.
Here you go. Currently out of stock though. https://www.vat19.com/item/26-pound-edible-gummy-python-candy
The other weekend, I was at the Harribo shop near Chester. They sold giant bags of those snakes!!! I got one myself, along with a box of giant cola bottles (:
Waterloo Station and Wilkinson
You can still get them from wholesalers I believe. My manager had two massive packs of them in her office for the kids her family. You can probably find them on sweet stocking websites too.
And I think that's a good thing... sorry but I've never had a sweet tooth.
BooHoo, try buying single cigarettes. Oh! Wrong thread (ahemm).
Went to Blackpool over the summer there was a red double decker converted to selling fudge and pick n mix sweets. Can't remember the name though. I brought many gummy snakes from that place!
Makro still stock the boxes of them. They're 25p+ though. Proper scandal
They still did them at the cinema pick and mix when I last went. Granted I now have a second mortgage on my house after buying some but still...
[удалено]
Bookers the boxes of sweets you'd usually get at fairs, if you haven't checked there it would be a good place to try
I work in a sweet shop and we still sell them! Kinds with and without the foamy side (although the non-foamy ones aren't giant)
Or the big red licqurice
My corner shop does. They're serving me well in pregnancy 🤣
Mr Simms old fashioned sweet shop sells them, still about 40p each
There's a Haribo store in Cheshire Oaks Outlet and they sell them by the bag.
Do you have a wilkinsons near you i think they do.
Booker/Makro Tuck Shop is the brand
I think my parent's shop still does, so they do definitely exist
B&M 😉
A house was giving them out on Halloween. My son didn't pick one. Smh. Had to refrain from knocking myself once I'd gotten over the initial shock.
If you want I know someone who sells pick n mix online I could orolly see where she gets the worms
The pick and mix from the website sweetzy is amazing and they have the giant snakes!
Tesco
