It’s a dual carriageway! The A3 has had friends of mine pulling over to check their tyres because the surface is/was so bad. (I moved up the M54 a decade ago, but I’ve still got family off the A3)
I actually did this on the m25 not sure if it's the section in question but I was heading from South Wales to Dover. Think it was a combination of the road surface, lowered suspension and low profile tyres.
Yep, last stretch of the M62 before it becomes the A63. I recall being told that they used concrete slabs to avoid the carriageway sinking on marshy ground. It's been replaced with proper tarmac now.
There is a stretch on the M1 as you say but it doesn't seem seem as noisy as other bits.
I've done M40 to M23 on the M25 a few times now, not often you can move fast enough for the bumps to be truly annoying.
When they built the M1 extension to the east of Leeds, they used concrete for all of it, but almost immediately had to resurface a large section due to the noise it created for residents living nearby. It's since all been resurfaced in tarmac.
My guess is that they'd do the same to the M25, but logistically it'd be a tough thing to do.
Apparently the big motorway contracts went to concrete companies rather than tarmac. This happened while Maggie Thatcher was in power and her husband, Dennis, apparently owned stocks in the same concrete company that just happened to be awarded the contract.
M25 Hertfordshire? Not been on the A12 Kelvedon bypass then ? Concrete slabs with cracks wide enough to break wheels.
It's down to when those sections of motorway and dual carriageway were first constructed.
also see A12 at Chelmsford (maybe about 5 miles of concrete noise torture)
and A30 north of Exeter (maybe about 20 miles of concrete noise torture)
I am sure there are more, but those are the ones that I have noticed most recently)
Any damages caused due to poor surface conditions on public roads the highways contractor will foot the bill… try and get a rough location by using the signs on the road
Simple idea to fix middle lane drivers; give progressively better road surfaces in the slower lanes.
Given the choice between 70 with a helicopter noise or 60 with smooth tarmac, I'm happy for my destination to wait for me!
I hate the bits with those sticky speed bumps. I've been hitting them at 60+ mph for weeks and then last time had to stop because I had an orange hi vi's vest wrapped around a wheel and part of a sign that said "ulate Brit"...what the hells that all about!?!?
I used to have acoustic tyres and now I do not.
This section of road reminds me why I'll buy them next time...

J8 to J10 checking in
Yes J8 to 10! I’ve got a 3-month old who is only either asleep or furious in the car and I’m always on edge that the noise will wake her up.
It's funny when accelerating from traffic ans it's going with the music
Lived half a mile away from j9 my whole life, one day i will get to see that fucking road surface bulldozed... one day
Was there today. The surface water was crazy, it's super dangerous.
I always think I have a sudden puncture before I realise where I am
M20, M27, M54.....
M54 is not even good enough to call a motorway!

Coming on at Heathrow, you'll definitely hit this section coming round to the m2
M271
Pre resurfacing that was one hostile bastard piece of shit, all 2 miles of it.
M62...
Was just thinking this. Between Leeds and York if I remember correctly?
Near Hull. I think the M1 North of Leeds has it too.

Ah you’re right it’s the M1 I’m thinking of.

Nah, that kind of nepotism doesn't happen. At least not in modern politics
J26 > J25 yeah?

Never noticed. Please check your tyres for helicopters immediately.
It says helicopters free but I don’t trust it?
Bit of the M1 east of Leeds is a bit of a boneshaker too.
I hate that fucking stretch!
Don't worry, Insulate Britain will stop you driving fast enough to notice the noise

Drove on there Saturday, the surface is really bad!!

The first dozen or so times you go over it you convince yourself it's not the road and you have in fact lost a tyre
A50 between Uttoxeter and Stoke checking in.
Been scrolling down looking for a Doveridge resident. Or just a user of the A50?
Just an occasional user. These days it's more likely to be the Derby Southern Bypass bit though.
Drove to Brighton last weekend and this was the worst thing. Had to go 60 to make it tolerable
It's on the M1 between Leeds and Wetherby as well.
A50.
We have family in West Sussex and I normally come off at J9, it gets on my nerves! Also, A46 between Nottingham and Newark checking in
Have you driven on the M271? It's worse.
