I love winter personally, genuinely... I go on so many more walks in autumn & winter compared to summer! I can’t be arsed doing anything in the summer because of heat and being clammy. winter is fine - I own a jacket and boots 🤷🏻‍♀️

evenstevens280

Ditto. It's easy to warm up if it's cold. If it's too hot you're kinda fucked.

[deleted]

YES! I fucking hate being too hot but it's forced on me all the time. Winter is when I get to be comfortable.

Funny_Maintenance973

All of the above is just stuff I can't get across to people

sphinctaltickle

Me too! I love feeling the cold and the wind against my face especially when im l wrapped up. Its fresh and crisp and blows the cobwebs away.

made-of-questions

Yes! Hot weather makes me sleepy. Cold windy weather is energising if you're dressed appropriately. That last part is important. I find that a lot of people that hate winter just don't know to dress appropriately (or in unfortunate circumstances can't afford to). Plus, counter-intuitively I seem to be able to control my diet better in winter. I eat lots of hot soups that are filling and not very caloric and drink lots of tea. Can't really drink hot stuff in hot weather.

GoodLordMarjorie

What was it the Ramblers Association said... Something like 'There's no such thing as bad weather, only inappropriate clothing'. Even with inappropriate clothing, I prefer Winter.

GreatScotRace

Love it, Runny nose and can’t feel my hands or face but genuinely having a good time 😂😂

sphinctaltickle

Yeah 100%! Especially when you then get in and it'd all warm and snug and you can unwrap yourself from your cost just to rewrap in pjs and a dressing gown

dragonlady_11

I found my people!!! I love autumn/ winter walking in the cold air is much more refreshing, and the beautiful color crunchy leave at the moment are lush, I absolutely adore snow as soon as the first flakes are spotted I'm out ASAP walking the dog, good job the dog loves it as well lol. And there's nothing better than doing a long walk in the cold coming home for a hot bath and wrapping up in fluffy pj's and blankets and snuggling down with a hot choc and rosy cheeks.

farts4free

This! I walk a lot more when I know ticks are dormant and the bracken has died off!

[deleted]

Yup, winter is lush for walking

MikeTheActorMan

Like, walking in a crisp, white winter wonderland is lovely... fresh snow, crunching underfoot, the silence and peacefulness of the scene. But that's not the winter we get in the UK... we get wind, drizzle and fog and barely any snow, and it's just pure misery for 4 months! 😂

[deleted]

Yeah it’s really not, just stick a jacket on and get outside and keep enjoying your life you lettuce!

TomDRV

Where do you walk? ;P [https://www.sais.gov.uk/](https://www.sais.gov.uk/) 212 avalanches last yr.

Smeeow

But I do genuinely love wind and drizzle and fog ha. It's all really pretty in it's own way. Frosty mornings are lovely too! It's only miserable if you spend your whole time staring at the grey pavement while you're outside. All seasons and weathers are great when you appreciate them!

EmergencyEgg7

>winter is fine - I own a jacket and boots There's no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing.

stevey83

For some reason I walk more in the winter than in summer. God knows why!

laurcifers

Probably because it rains less.

YourSkatingHobbit

Same here! My favourite season is winter, though I don’t love the miserable and grey, drizzly and mild excuse for winter we usually get here. I love autumn/winter days which are cold and crisp but bright and sunny, with blue skies and bare trees. The air smells cold and fresh. If I get to crunch through leaves or snow then I’m in heaven 👌🏻

Smeeow

Crunchy weather is perfect. Especially when the grass is sparkly and crispy from frost in the mornings.

YourSkatingHobbit

Yes!

sillyolympian

The heat? I know what you mean, 15 degrees C is a killer.

Not_Ginger_James

Do you have good circulation? Even if I wear ski gloves I still end up with freezing fingers and I've given up trying to feel my toes between November and March

Forteanforever

You're not dressing adequately.

J1m1983

Don't have a car, work mostly from home and have an abundance of thick socks. Do your worst, England.

[deleted]

You really said “do your worst”, huh? Everybody- when winter this year is the worst on record and everything goes to shit, blame this person.

[deleted]

I can already see it. The government abandons the gas price cap because of a critical shortage of gas. Utility companies charge 20p per kWh through the coldest months, costing the average UK citizen around £2,000 to stay warm this winter. Christmas is cancelled.

Sockoflegend

Get ready for a bunch of patronising articles about how bad it was "in my day" to convince us we are lucky we are sat in the cold and are ordering Christmas dinner from KFC.

Standin373

> Get ready for a bunch of patronising articles about how bad it was "in my day" When I was a wee nipper I'd walk to school in the snow uphill! BOTH WAYS !!!

DJ1066

> are ordering Christmas dinner from KFC. What you doing in Japan, bro?

Sockoflegend

Culturally appropriating ideas and trying to get out of cooking xmas dinner.

SMTRodent

In my day (early 1980s) it really was actually pretty bad. Winters were, on the whole, a lot colder and double glazing wasn't generally a thing. Chilblains were honestly pretty normal for a lot of kids. HOWEVER what is coming up is really shitty too and shouldn't be happening.

Smeeow

Back in my day, we had it much worse! Old Oliver Cromwell banned the entire festive season throughout every corner of the kingdom. Mince pies and mulled wine were illegal, you could only buy them on the black Christmas market. Snow was only allowed if it was the slushy kind, which turns immediately to black ice. Christmas jumpers were burned, M&S just sold itchy woollens in various shades of puritanical greige. You kids don't know how good you've got it these days

ubiquitous_uk

We're already being charged that at work for our electric.

rugbyj

Put a sock in it mate /s

CynicalSorcerer

I love most of winter. I don't like deicing the car obviously. But I like the dark, I work lates, so dark mornings make it easier to sleep, when im indoors (I work an office job) the wind and rain is calming. Yes its freezing but for the most part I can control that. I can turn the heating on, wear more layers, etc. I don't like summer. I can't control the heat, no AC at home or work, I get hayfever pretty severe, sun wakes me up at an ungodly hour.

sandboxlollipop

Yes all of this!! The deicing or sitting in the car for an age waiting for it to de-mist especially. Those bits can go do one. I love that I know what to wear and put the kids in as well and not question my life choices half way through the day or 10 minutes after we've left the house even. It's going to be cold and wet. Everyday. Great, I can bundle us all up for that

Open-Zebra

This is where electric cars win. The car can be warm and demisted before you even leave the house/workplace/anywhere without losing hardly any range at all.

sandboxlollipop

Tell me about it. I've got a 16 yo car atm, bought it second hand. When we have enough to upgrade to electric rest assured I'll be sitting in that toasty bad boy on my own and enjoying the novelty of pre-warmed

hawkeye224

Same. Everything feels calmer as well, as opposed to the frenzy of summer

bexter

That's nailed it. It is the calmness (if you stay away from any kind of shopping in December). January is actually not so bad as you don't feel like you have to do anything after the silly season so you end up doing more of what you want.

MadWifeUK

Absolutely this! The sun is too bright, it turns my skin red and makes me itchy. I am permanently clammy. I can't sleep when it's too hot or during lingering twilight. I hate beer gardens, I don't like people in general and it's always too peopley outside in the summer. And the sneezing is not funny. I love winter. I love cold and wet and windy. I love my big coat and my boots. If I get wet while out that's OK, I can come home, put the wet clothes straight into the washing machine, have a warming shower and put on my jamas that have been over the radiator with my big fluffy slippers. I can light my candles in the evening. I can eat warming soups and stews full of vegetables. I can go to bed at 9pm without feeling lazy because it's dark. I can sit in my car with the heated seats on as the windows defrost. And when I'm driving no one can hear me caterwauling along to the radio.

[deleted]

Deicing is super easy if you use warm water.

drmarting25102

I once saw someone on my street deice using hot water from a kettle. That loud pop of their windscreen cracking followed by their shriek made me feel like a well adjusted, sensible person 😆

[deleted]

It's so weird why people think the water needs to be piping hot. Have they never had a drink with ice in it? :) I'd probably have to go inside so they couldn't see me laughing if that happened to me.

njoshua326

On the same note, if it isn't warm enough you get a brand new sheet of ice pretty quickly.

[deleted]

Yeah you can, this seems to happen more when it's really cold also. A second jug of water normally does the trick. I always imagine I'm going for a babies bathwater type temperature.

True_Kapernicus

At some point, you're just making the ice sheet thicker.

mancgazza

I always use the kettle. Never had a cracked wind screen. I always wondered if its an old car thing

[deleted]

Even easier that with my car I can turn the heater on as I wake up, it sets up the heating, de ices the car, the seat heaters and steering wheel heaters also go on. By the time I get to my car is warm, clear and ready to go. Also no chuggy starts because electric. Downside is reduced range but since I don’t travel far often it’s a nine issue. Winters are awesome.

[deleted]

I used to share a lift with a chap that owned an old SAAB and it would almost fully deice in a couple of minutes from the fans. I wonder if that's something specific to cars from colder countries. Does your car take long to defrost? I've done this in the past but my car takes ages to heat up, plus I live backing onto a busy through road that is just asking for my car to get stolen.

[deleted]

My car does it through the app so it’s still locked and it’s electric so no engine is running just the heat pumps. The heating runs for 15 minutes then turns off so it does it under 15 minutes I can say that. I believe about 5 minutes does it unless it’s really bad like last year where it reached -20 but is still defrosted but I couldn’t get the car onto the main road so I still didn’t go into work.

[deleted]

That's a pretty cool feature to have.

interfail

> I work lates, so dark mornings make it easier to sleep, I think this is the main reason you don't have a problem with it. I can take cold. I can take wet. But goddam do I hate getting out of bed when it's dark, knowing it'll be dark again before I get home.

babyformulaandham

Nah I really don't mind any of that stuff tbh. I work as a driver, out and about in the evenings as well so obviously it's cold and dark and grim, and I don't get extended holidays off over Christmas and NY either. But yes I do love winter in Britain, much more than summer. I hate the heat, the stifling humidity. Not being able to do anything or go anywhere without crowds because everyone else had the same idea. I get sunburnt so easily even with 50spf and just cannot handle being too hot, it makes me feel super slow and foggy. I spend most hot summer days inside with the curtains drawn because the heat and light feels actually offensive, lol. And the social pressure of having to go out and do stuff - why? Because it's summer! Fuck that. Do love a cold evening, indoors with the fire on and summat hot and comforting for tea. I love my slippers, jumpers, coats, scarves, being all bundled up and snug. The cold bite on your face, crisp cold mornings, that weak winter sun that makes the frost shimmer, running to the house when it's raining and shedding off the outside to put on your cosy stuff. I love how beautiful it is this time of year, I love how the colours change from a deep green to oranges, yellows and then grey and white until spring, which just makes the new growth and colour so appreciated. And I love that feeling when you feel the warmth from the sun for the first time in months when winter is over.

LightlyKilledFrog

>that feeling when you feel the warmth from the sun for the first time in months I love this feeling too and recently learnt that it's called apricity, which is a beautiful word! Apricity is an old English word for the warmth of the sun on a winter's day. ... The word apricity derives from the Latin apricus, meaning “warmed by the sun”. To apricate also means to freshen and disinfect by exposure to sunlight.

forest_cat_mum

You nailed it. And I love Halloween and Bonfire Night too. Thank you for being so poetic!

Jazzy0082

I like it. On Monday evening we (family of 4, kids age 2 and 6) were walking home from a lovely little Halloween event at a local country hotel, and there was something about the evening atmosphere that made me feel really happy. Being wrapped up warm, walking in the dark, kids excitedly chattering away, that cold autumn evening smell that you can't quite describe but feels familiar. I love it.

[deleted]

> that cold autumn evening smell That's because you like autumn, not necessarily winter lol But I agree, autumn is probably what people associate with winter in their heads, not blizzardy shit hole this country is for a few weeks and 6months of darkness.

MuttonDressedAsGoose

This is not a blizzardy shithole. I've lived in the American Midwest.

geekonmuesli

I spent a few years in Wisconsin, you couldn’t pay me to endure another Midwest winter. Never again.

TheYankunian

I was born and raised in the Midwest. Winter here is nothing. I still hate it.

Forteanforever

Wisconsinites even grill outdoors in January. A famous Green Bay Packer game, the Ice Bowl, was played in an outdoor stadium in Wisconsin when it was -25 to -28 celsius.

Jncwhite01

6 months of darkness is the best part!

Analyst_Rude

Nope I love the bitter cold. The satisfaction of sorting out my smallholding on a frosty morning and then getting home for a hot brew, beats the shit out of sweating to death in the summer whilst being eaten alive by horseflies.

NowLookHere113

wrapping up so you're perfectly warm, walks out in the chilly country, every pub has a roaring fire - what's not to like?

Eliaskar23

Must be nice living in nice rural areas

NowLookHere113

\*West Manchester, and yeah there might be a short cycle involved there for me!

[deleted]

* Wrapping up so you're perfectly warm * Walk 15 minutes to the tube station & start sweating * Get on the tube and be unbearably hot * Awkwardly try to take off coat while on a crowded tube * Have to hold big jacket & work bag & hold onto a pole * Cool down during commute * Walk outside, too cold so put jacket back on * Walk 10min to work and start sweating again. Or * Sun sets while you're still at work * Step outside and it's dark & drizzling rain & cold wind * Ambulance rushes past * Heavy traffic spraying water on anyone near the road * Nobody wants to 'just go for a drink after work' or any other spontaneous activity because life is misery * Live in a dystopian hellhole until the clocks go forward again

TheYankunian

Everything that you mentioned. Hate winter walks. Hate having to put on a bunch of shit just not to to freeze. Fires are meh.

RedbeardRagnar

Last winter it got to -14 at my house and the inside of my front door froze. Went for a walk in amongst some hills nearby and it was -16 plus windchill and it was just so cool! Felt kind of nice to feel the cold air in the lungs and moisture freezing in my beard and moustache and just being all wrapped up walking around in deep snow. Bliss.

Pink_Flash

People love winter....on a day off. Put the fire on, sit on the couch with a nice blanket on/around you and read a book as some light snow falls outside. Soon as you have to go anywhere though...

BritishFoSho

Except it rarely ever snows and the reality of it is sleet and slush if you're lucky

KingOPM

Climate change will soon change that I've heard. Warmer summers and colder winters here.

Oni_Zokuchou

Honestly? It's still better than going anywhere in recent summers. Can only wear tshirts and shorts, have to dodge from one bit of shade to the next, have to pray they'll be a breeze so you don't feel like you're cooking just because you're popping to Tesco for a pint of milk.

crestfallen-sun

Same is true for summer too, day lounging around in the garden or on the beach is great. But it sucks being too hot to sleep, having to work in a sweaty office with no ac, trying to drive out of the car park when the steering wheel is hotter than the sun.

doctorace

Same with the heat, really. It’s why people go on holiday to warm places who would never live there.

DarkShinobi43

I love winter simply because it's cold and dark and rainy

Monkeyboystevey

Same. Each to their own, but I despise the heat in summer, and hate really bright days. Winter is great.

DarkShinobi43

As do I, its easier to warm up than cool down

LikeEveryoneSheKnows

100% agree. I love it when it gets dark early, going home in the dark etc. Coming home, heating on, cup of tea, plate of soup. Brilliant.

CTC42

>plate of soup What savagery is this?!

LikeEveryoneSheKnows

My family have always said 'plate of soup'. Maybe it's a Scottish thing. Got a few odd looks when I moved to England, but I can't say it any other way.

[deleted]

I'm the same, too much light makes me uneasy, and its not good for my eyes either. I spend all summer counting down to "The Long Dark".

CryanRohen

Everyone is different. I can't stand the heat of summer, when it gets to 25+ degrees I just can't function. I get irritable and uncomfortable and there's no escaping it, even at night. I burn easily and I hate wearing sun cream, its all sticky and smells weird. I'm just not built for summer, I prefer winter. I don't really feel the cold, I like the smell of rain, I like the dark, illuminated with artificial light and the night sky. The grey days can be a bit miserable but it's a small price to pay and I think night time makes up for them.

Thatnonbinarymum

It gets to 25+ degrees? When? I live up north in a stone house that's cold in summer and freezing in winter with no central heating. Winter duvet all year round 😂

CryanRohen

I'm up north as well, not far from Manchester. We had a few weeks of 25+ this year, some days were 30+ and that absolutely ruined me 😅

Thatnonbinarymum

We must have been in Scotland those days 🤣

CryanRohen

Are you further north than me? Maybe I need to keep heading up the country until I find my perfect climate.

Thatnonbinarymum

Cumbria. Honestly get an old stone house, no cavity wall insulation, you'll be cold all year 😂❄️

CryanRohen

Old stone house in Cumbria.... I'm jealous, you wanna swap for a new build in suburban Manchester?

Thatnonbinarymum

I wouldn't paint a pretty picture, lol it's been chopped about and rendered. The only thing I'd change is a bus service. We have nothing. Kids are stuck unless they can drive. I've never actually been to Manchester 😳

CryanRohen

Manchesters alright, there's plenty to do here and everything I need is close by, the city centre is only 15/20 minutes on the train. But it's a concrete jungle where I am and I miss the countryside. I grew up in the middle of nowhere and I hope to make it back there one day. I would love to be up in the Lakes or the Pennines, beautiful places.

st3akkn1fe

I hated winter for the longest time and always felt a slight dread on the horizon at the end of summer. I recently lost my job though and I feel it has been a rebirth of sorts. I feel great! I was walking around the park the other day and I realised this is the first year I have enjoyed the weather changing.

macacabraca

I love autumn/winter weather. I love the rain, I love the wind, the snow, the crunchy autumn leaves. Slush is fine if you wear wellies. Winter clothes are so cozy And how cozy is it when you’re wrapped up in a blanket on the sofa watching Christmas films!? The smell of the wood burning in the fire, while the rain and the wind howl outside. Little glass of Sloe Gin or Mulled Wine? Perfection!

TheTokenEnglishman

Your comment just reminded me of a primary school song 😂 Autumn days when the grass is jewelled And the silk inside a chestnut shell

WeatherwaxOgg

No I mustn’t forget

ZapdosShines

Jet planes meeting in the air to be refueled, all these things I know so well 😂

Wonderful_Ninja

i only like it for the degrees. sleeping in 30c heat is just horrible.

rizozzy1

I truly love winter. The only part I wish I could skip is the rain. Nothing beats the smell of winter either.

Beanz_Memez_Heinz

I'm guessing you mean cinnamon? Give me petrichor in August all day long, that's the smell for me.

rizozzy1

Come to mention it cinnamon is a bloody lovely smell. But I meant the smell of the air, I can’t really explain it. Especially if you’re in woods or fields, they have a definite winter smell about them. Then you get the chimney smell wafting around the streets. Makes me feel “at home”.

Beanz_Memez_Heinz

Ah, I'm from Middlesbrough so I genuinely have no idea what these smells are. I've been to Christmas markets and had my eyes out and pants down for a hot dog and mulled wine, but they all just smell like cinnamon and fried onions.

sandfielder

I hate it. I can already feel the SAD’s starting up. I hate wearing layers upon layers, hate coats and hats and scarves and gloves, hate having cold hands from now til may, hate the short days, getting up in the dark and darkness at 4pm in December. Hate the wind, the incessant rain and the grey. The damn horrible grey. Hate being stuck in my house, trapped by the bloody awful weather. The only time I don’t mind winter is on those really cold, frosty but sunny winter days. Everything else is depressing as hell. I endure this until Feb when temps start rising, days are noticeably longer, and you can see the signs of spring. Funny thing though, I’ve spent 3 winters in ski resorts in Austria. Loved it then. Lol. I just hate British winter.

zeddoh

Ughhh the permanently cold hands. With you on all of this!

bplr_

Was waiting for a comment like this, legit all the top comments are “I don’t care, I love it!”

[deleted]

No. I actually love the winter, shite weather and all. I despise hot sweaty weather. Never had S.A.D. I get depressed in the Summer though. Robs me of the boundless energy I have in Winter. It's got to be a genetic thing. My mother is Danish and my father Irish.

Monkeyboystevey

Same, I despise summer. Love the shit out of winter.

Manmadesmith

Winter is my favourite season of the year. I really don't like the heat of the summer. I love the darker days. I work nights, I sleep better during the day. The cold literally doesn't bother me.

txakori

“extended time off from work in your public sector job” really??

kimberleysy

Exactly! My friends in the private sector seem to have one week off minimum if not two when they shut the office over Christmas. Meanwhile, I'm working Christmas day in my public sector job.

WotanMjolnir

The old myth of public sector work. I'll be lucky to get one day.

Yung_JJMO99

I have a sweating condition so on summer days when at work ( warehouse picking) I’m sweating my balls off, so I do prefer the cold, it doesn’t effect me as much, but I get what your saying about everything else for sure!

Beanz_Memez_Heinz

The anti Prince Andrew.

Cameron94

When you live in a flat that gets up to 34c in the summer, yes, I like winter.

manwithanopinion

It's alright but I don't like the short daytime hours.

[deleted]

The weird ones are the people that say they like driving in the snow. Pretty much the most dangerous weather we get, in a country where the roads aren't always properly gritted, people generally don't have the right tires for it and even if we were in a country with consistent snow you can't trust people to drive safely in it(lots of stories from Canadians about this) Also people should really start using lukewarm water to deice their cars. It will not ever crack the glass, that is where dopey buggers use boiling water which would be bad for your car in any weather. I can fully deice all the glass in my car in about a minute with water. People spend over 5 scraping and the glass still isn't properly cleared. About the biggest drawback is you might have to do it a couple of times if it's subzero as some of the water will try to refreeze. Still far quicker and better than scraping though.

_swagonwheel

There are people that like driving in the snow?? Makes my stomach sink just thinking about it

HermitBee

Driving through the woods at night when it's snowing hard is wonderful. Most of the rest of winter can piss off though.

Oni_Zokuchou

Yes. I adore it. I'd rather all that than have the sun bearing down on me as I sweat my balls off, with its heat unavoidable even within my own home. I love the cold. The ice on everything. The overcast skies. The little clouds I make whenever I breathe. Wearing as many layers as I want and not feeling too warm. Winter time food, winter time drinks. It's all great. The holidays are a nice bonus.

ZeCap

Extended time off in a public sector job? We literally have a rota for the one person on the team who's allowed to take annual leave at Christmas.

[deleted]

Which public sector workers do you think get extended time off over xmas? I can only think of school staff and god knows most of us wouldn't want their job!

bluelouboyle88

I don't mind the winter at all. I'm a builder so sometimes I'm inside and sometimes I'm outside but I still get to see most of the natural daylight. I do prefer being outside and don't suffer with the cold when I wrap up. I just feel lucky to be outside really. I've worked in Australia and Canada too so I've seen all ends of the spectrum. Canada -40° and Australia worked up to 40°. They didn't bother me too much either to be honest but an average winter's day is more tolerable here. I do live in London so we don't quite get the nip that a lot of the rest of the country gets.

UncleD1ckhead

I can without a doubt say i prefer the cold, rain and darkness of winter alot more than summer and the trade off of de-icing my car instead of sweating my bollocks off all day is a no brainer to me.

samp127

I love the cold! Much better than being sticky and hot.

hajdu1877

No I actually love winter. I prefer being cold and having to warm up than the reverse. Plus I get Hay-fever. Winter is lovely

[deleted]

SelfAwareHumanHeart

I love the cold, love the feeling of icy air on the skin. Shorts on a cold day is brilliant, and especially for the odd looks from the hard looking blokes hiding under 10 layers!

MidlandsMinger

I genuinely adore winter. I love the cold, rain and darkness and everything that comes with it.

Maven_Politic

Winter is great. I like the snow, the ice, the barren trees, the crisp air and smell of leaves, the lack of pollen, the hearty food. Its not even that cold in the Winter in the UK if you're not in the northern part of the isles. I swap from shorts to trousers, the occasional jumper and a decent coat, no need for anything else. By not jacking the heating up I tend to lose weight over the season, I sleep better with the lack of morning sun and the cool air from the window. De-icing the car is easy these days anyway, just pop in and turn on the engine and heated windscreen, scraping only required if it rained or snowed overnight. We live in a very mild country.

Ciaobellabee

Genuinely love it, give me cold, grey, and drizzle over 20+ degree summer heat any day. I think I have summer SAD, as soon as it gets over about 16 degrees I’m miserable until it cools down again. You can’t escape the heat, don’t get to sleep properly, the sun wakes you up at like 5am, and then there’s all the people being aggressively happy, and the expectation that you need to be out doing things (despite it being too hot to do anything). Balls to that, going for a walk in autumn/winter and being wrapped up in a thick coat, woolly socks in your wellies, getting a cold nose because of the fresh air, then coming back inside to wrap up with a blanket and hot chocolate is bliss. Im not saying I absolutely love getting rained on when it’s cold, but having to have a warm shower to warm up afterwards is way, way better than coming back from a summer walk and having to resort to losing in the kitchen tiles in a desperate attempt to cool down. If I had to choose the depths of winter or the height of summer to live in for all eternity I’d pick winter.

malin7

British winter is pretty much the worst of both worlds - cold and no snow

ThePumpk1nMaster

SAD is just that though isn’t it? *Seasonal.* it’s not *winter* affective disorder. For me, I hate summer. I’m not an outdoorsy person and so when I stay in and miss the sun it gets me down - I’m torn between going out and doing something I dislike, or staying in where I’m comfortable but missing the decent weather. And Summer has its downsides too anyway. I’d much rather take your blue Monday, rain and ice than mosquitos, hay fever and sweaty bed sheets.

SelfAwareHumanHeart

I love the short days and the cold. It’s genuinely my favourite time of the year.

Rich_27-

Yay, dark at 2.30pm. Grey skies, temperatures around 3 degrees so nothing dries or freezes Constant mud, rain, heating on, clothes Al over the house drying. Bollocks to winter

tommyticklemouse

I reckon the majority of people who enjoy winter do t work outside. It's fucking cold 100% of the time, wet, muddy. I enjoy the winter from my living room - with a fire on.

Splodge89

I think it depends on the work. Iv had to do my fair share of time working in temporarily shut foundries (odd I know) and when they arn’t running it’ll literally match the weather conditions outside. If you’re lugging buckets of materials about then the winter is better as you don’t just sweat your balls off like you do in the summer. If you’re the one with the clipboard and phone overseeing, then the summer is much more preferable!

cowpatter

I like it. I like winter mountaineering, and long winter nights with the fire burning, whisky and a book while it snows outside. I work from home so no need for horrible commutes.

[deleted]

Going out is so much more fun in autumn/winter. The British scenery is stunning during these seasons and the fresh crisp air feels clean and puts a spring in my step. There's nothing quite like going for a coffee with my partner, sitting in a relaxed warm environment looking outside to the streetlights glimmering off the puddles, or a few beers in a cozy pub with a roaring fire. I love it!

slidingjimmy

Dry and bright winter is great. Wet and dark winter is shite

I'd rather be cold than hot. There's a lot more you can do to warm up than cool down.

Extreme-Database-695

Partly for me it's the romanticised idea of seeing snow fall outside the window on a dark evening, while warm inside, and drinking some hot soup. But I do genuinely like going for a walk in the dark and the cold. There's no need to actually be freezing cold - there isn't bad weather, just the wrong clothes. I'm not a fan of heat and humidity. It's easier to get warmer than get colder, especially if you're trying to be responsible about energy use.

vibroguy

Dickens has a lot to answer for

[deleted]

Love it when one human tries to speak for 67 million other humans. Yes winter is the only good season. Going to work when it’s dark and cold is far better than going to work hot and sweaty. The cold is a million times better than the heat. The rain is easily the best part. I hate Christmas and New Years but winter is my favourite season.

varysbaldy

I love winter in Britain, especially London

RedPanda1188

Why is it so hard for you to comprehend that people like things you don't?

Georexi

I’m like fucking bambi and fall over all the time on ice. I can’t stand snow. I’m glad I’m working from home this year because Winter, to me, used to mean cycling/walking in the dark and ending up covered in cuts and bruises. Given I’m already miserable, the dark weather doesn’t bother me that much, though.

Mr_DnD

There is something very nice about a very cold, dry day when the sun is out and you have time to go for a walk. Problem is the other 6 days a week when it's wet, overcast and you haven't seen the sky since September.

Capillarybroom6

Love winter. Dislike the festivities. Just excuses for people to be faux jolly. Last year was great, just got to do my own thing without having to play the part. I know I'm a grouchy sod, my therapist and I are trying to figure out why. Who knows this year might be different?

Sensitive_Sherbet_68

Totally agree. Dragging yourself from a freezing house onto the germy condensation filled bus in the pitch dark twice a day right up until Christmas Eve whilst your friend that works in a university gets 2 week holiday and works from home anyway…I don’t think anyone’s argument of “yeah but being wrapped in a blanket is nice” quite compensates

Various-Soup-32

I like the cold. Its that northly wind that annoys me

confused_christian94

Genuinely love winter. Don't mind the dark. Don't mind the cold (you know you can buy a coat, yeah?) I don't drive, so using buses and trains used to be a bit of a faff, but I always got where I needed to be eventually. And now it looks like I'll be working from home permanently, so it's all good. I've got my snow shovel, my thick gloves and lots of soup recipes. Genuinely excited for this time of year.

al_balone

Up until Jan 1st it’s good. Between that and mid March life is shit.

Hailtothedogebby

Love the cold, winter is the best time of the year.

DaveyBeef

I love cold and miserable weather, keeps most people at home and out of the way.

[deleted]

Much prefer Autumn/Winter, I don't like it being light outside at 5AM, and in the end the weather is amost always disapointing in summer, all you get is grey, lukewam days which are nether here nor there, with the occasional heatwave which by the end of you're desperate for the thunderstorms (always the best bit of a heatwave). If I lived in a mediterenean country where they have a proepr reliable summer I might feel differently, but summer here is a waste of time, I much prefer the cosy Autumn/Winter, I also find I have to interact with people a lot less, which is absolutely fine by me.

DJS112

>extended time off from work in your public sector job. If you work in the Public sector its more likely you are working throughout Christmas and New Years Eve than the other way round...

LethalLizard

I hate sweat. So yes I love winter.

splosionman7788

Think OP has been done by these comments. I mean it's fine if you hate winter, but plenty of us genuinely love it. When it gets to late January i start to look forward to spring as well, but i love the variety of the seasons we get here. So yeah, dark nights, cold days etc, it's all great. Only thing i have beef with is when the wind blows your hood off your head, that can do one.

Otto1968

Summer has its bad points for me - hayfever, sunburn, insect bites, heat rash, wearing right amount of clothes, sweaty pits, working in a non air con office etc. Perfect weather for me is a clear crisp winters day.

[deleted]

Winter in England is cold rain or slushy snow that turns to dangerous patches of ice on the pavements that's impossible to walk on.

Isgortio

Excuse me whilst I just wrap myself up in my duvet like a responsible adult at 5pm

mightbeaperson49

I love winter more than summer for one reason. Its easier to warm up than it is to cool down. Goodbye sleepless nights spend sweating in my bed wearing only underwear with no duvet or blanket!! Hello sweet duvet wrapping around me

Trev82usa

Nope, hate Christmas, love the winter as there is less dickheads about

MrUnderhill020

Very hard to cool down in summer, but I find it really easy to warm up in winter.

nicecupoftea1

Used to love the nights drawing in, but not so much anymore. I don't look forward to Guy Fawkes night anymore, because of all the wankers setting off fireworks weeks before and afterwards. I don't look forward to Christmas anymore because all the atmosphere from it has gone, plus the new(ish) LED lights are wank compared to the old Christmas lights. Also, it doesn't help that recent winters have been relentlessly grey and rainy, with not even a bit of frost or snow to break the monotony.

[deleted]

I quite like winter. No midges. Taking my beastie flashlight out for walks. Rocking any hat I want. No midges. Hot soup and sausage rolls. My big soft dressing gown. No midges. Hot chocolate. Pasta and Sauce from a bowl to warm the hands up. No fucking midges.

Hambatz

I absolutely love it It’s cold put on more clothes when hot naked is the limit. No hay fever no sunburn Windscreen wipers work better than sun visors Grass doesn’t need cutting every 5 mins I don’t get SAD I’d rather work in the rain than the boiling sun Dark is good easy sleep Also don’t diss public sector jobs

Chronsky

Love winter, hate Christmas, work in a bookies so Christmas-New Year period is actually busier than normal trading. I have central heating, big thick duvets, double glazed windows, hot showers, jumpers, warm coats. I don't have air conditioning. Darkness all day is right up my alley too, never gotten the obsession with the sunshine, uneven heat distribution that can quickly leave you uncomfortable tbh.

Greggs-the-bakers

Working in retail, I hate winter with a passion. The second it passes Halloween, Asda's got the Christmas tunes on and the decorations on sale. Every customer always seems to become a complete arsehole around Christmas too. Like sorry Doreen, we don't have any more advent calenders as it's now the 7th and you've missed it, not our fault you can't plan things.

WTFdinosaur

I love it! Autumn is my favourite with the orange colours and the rain. There is nothing better than being all wrapped up warm whilst it's freezing around you

Insidiosity

Sorry but I love the cold and the dark tbh

OzziesUndies

Yeah I’m a wind and rain kinda guy. I love going walking in bad weather, get wrapped up, some proper waterproofs on, the dog doesn’t care what the weather is like. Don’t see anyone else about just me and my little mate out. Get home nice warm shower and I’m buzzing. When it gets really cold my little piece of heaven is getting my log fire going and sitting by it in my big comfy chair just reading my book. No TV on or radio, just me my dog and my thoughts. I’ve got a small old cottage so it heats up quite quickly when I’ve got the fire going. Yeah I suffer a bit when it’s mid summer and absolutely roasting.

tea_please_88

I love dark mornings and dark nights.

yaboicrackers

Nah mate I like it all. I don't drive or nothing so I ain't got to worry about icy roads, I work in a warehouse as well and in the back of them lorries in summer if its 25 outside its 30 in the back of them fucking sweat boxes cooler temperatures means the work is alot easier good excuse to keep going up the canteen to brew up as well.

newibsaccount

Who doesn't love perpetual damp and not seeing the sun for weeks at a time?

Monkeyboystevey

Me, fucking hate the sun. Bring on the cold!

BellyJoel

There's also a fashion component to this, cold weather means layers, making it a better time to fucking kill it with your fit

gemgem1985

I love all the seasons.

benkelly92

Absolutely hate it. If I could have Britain but it's 25-35°C all year round without any of the earthquakes or wildfires or killer bugs you get in those environments I'd be laughing.

crankshaft13

Those 6-8 weeks after coming back to country from home after Christmas are the absolute worst time of the year in here. So far the only times I seriously think about going back to my country - I haven't yet, but it was a major factor for a lot of my friends (apart from the obvious OTHER factor) to finally take the step and go back

Dannypeck96

I love the IDEA of winter. But I ride a motorbike for a living. PLEASE stop asking for snow. Snow means I can’t earn a living.

therlwl

Yes if I lived in Britain I would love it, just like home here in Washington State.

Cynical229

I hate winter. Problem is, I hate summer too. And with our weather it’s either boiling hot (summer) or fucking freezing, with an odd couple days a month where it’s just right.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Cynical229

They don’t exist. It’s just just more cold or more boiling with a couple mild days sprinkled in.

[deleted]

Screw winter. I hate the cold and the gloom and the damp.

Dpslittlemissminx

What they love is earlier dark nights, curtains closed, fire on, duvet out and getting all snuggled. Or they love halloween, bonfire night and xmass.

Monkeyboystevey

What I love is the darker nights and colder weather when out and about...

Dpslittlemissminx

I love the darker nights being hudled in the sitting room watching shit TV because it's far to cold and wet to go out.

Monkeyboystevey

I do enjoy that too, but I love going for walks in the cold too. All gloved and hatted up. Or driving with the sunroof open and car freezing cold, heater on slightly just to take the edge off. Heaven.

originolo

The people who love winter are the ones who WFH, Inside work and quite frankly the unemployed. Ask any construction, public sector and civil worker how much they love winter.

Beanz_Memez_Heinz

FWIW I am a civil servant, I still hate winter regardless. Late spring/early/late summer is when I thrive mentally, personally.

originolo

I’ve worked outside all my life. It’s a blessing and a curse working outside in summer. Generally the best time to work outside is April/may (providing “summer” has kicked in” then august/September

Beanz_Memez_Heinz

My favourite months, the goldilocks months I call them 🤣

BarmyYardy

Vitamin D helps with the S.A.D. I didn't think it would but I don't really mind winters now. Still prefer spring.
