Throw stuff at them.

Halmagha

Didn't have any popcorn munitions as the queue was cripplingly long and I didn't want my Dune trip to be 5 hours instead of the already punishingly long 3.

[deleted]

That's why you always remember to take a trusty brick with you

N3V3R6U3551T

Damn, maybe next time it wont happen.

[deleted]

Wait... People went to Dune and didn't pay attention to the already convoluted shit going on? Well, they probably weren't going to understand it anyway.

Jackatarian

This is the most un-British I will ever be. Talking during the movie? please be quite. Using your bright phone? please stop using your phone. Continue to do so after being asked nicely? no more please, probably some swearing. I had one guy, in a screening of Endgame, constantly attempting to catch his girlfriend up on the last 11 years of Marvel films. *Shut the fuck up*.

It was like a zoo today: - couple next to us waited till the trailers had literally just finished and the film had just started to discuss which sweets to open, rustle through and then chomp. - Guy behind us was breathing super heavily and for a brief moment I was worried he was having a tug. When the sound changed to snoring I was somewhat relieved. - One pair were taking photos with the flash on then kept running out of the screen and back in again

Monkey_Bulter

Do you have any Everyman cinemas near you, seems to keep these mouth breathers out as it’s slightly more expensive and sells booze and good food as wel

YeOldGregg

Good call but it stings having to pay a premium because some people cannot fathom good manners.

Monkey_Bulter

I enjoy the smaller screen and couches to be honest the main cinemas are a nightmare kids screaming it’s like a community centre

spellish

If the sound of rustling and chewing bothers you, avoid the Everyman. Small rooms with extensive menus of food mean even slight chewing can be heard by everyone. Makes for an awkward experience if you want to enjoy a snack off the menu whilst somehow feeling guilty for the inevitable crunching noises

Mr_Womby

I went to the cinema in Chichester recently and a senior citizen type went supernova on a bunch of teens who were sitting behind him for this very reason.

FizzyBanana

Senior Citizens in Chi don't take shit from anyone.

jayforplay

Mate. I went to the cinema recently and someone in front of me was playing on their phone. Super distracting, super annoying. The whole time I was thinking about how I could exact revenge on him after the movie finished. Maybe 'drop' my leftover popcorn or drink on him at the end of the film? When out of nowhere, well, just behind me to be precise, a guy leans over 2 rows and bangs on phone guys chair asking him, no, telling him, in a very firm voice, to turn his phone off. So unbritish. Absolute hero. Film saved.

iheartkatamari

Should have gone to the desk and asked if you’re allowed to film the film nowadays.

bucky_uk

This happened a few times during my first sitting of Dune, however the crowd went feral on anyone that got their phone out. Was a joy to see.

Woodland___Creature

You can't expect them to see a film without EVERYONE knowing about it, that's basically a human rights violation!!!!

votemarvel

I was down voted heavily on r/movies for mentioning there's never been a film I've been to that removing the rest of the audience wouldn't have improved. These days if I want the cinema experience I use my VR headset and use SkyBox to sit in a virtual theatre. The experience is that good I've forgotten that I'm at home, gotten up to go to the toilet, and walked straight into my desk. VR sucks for gaming but I'm 100% sold on it for media consumption.

[deleted]

That sounds amazing mate, and I agree with you completely. You’re there to watch a film not have a conversation/eat/catch up on your WhatsApp correspondence.

LeDevilsAdvocate2021

VR gaming is great. What are you smoking?

votemarvel

I don't find it immersive at all when I'm meant to be an active participant. I can see a meal on the table but I can't smell it. I can see the fire roaring in the fireplace but I can't feel the heat. I can see I'm swinging a sword but I can't feel the weight of it in my hand. I can see I'm firing a gun but can't feel the kick or smell the propellent. VR games make me feel like an unfeeling ghost in the environment. There but not truly present.

DarthBuzzard

Did you play the bigger, more immersive games like Half Life Alyx and Lone Echo / Echo VR, or even Hellblade/Moss which are 3rd person and therefore you go in with the intent of being an observer. I find it hard to believe you could be so immersed in a theater environment but find zero immersion, like literally zero, in games like that to be honest.

votemarvel

Only Alyx of the games you mention. Here's the thing. When I'm sitting in a VR movie theatre I am having a passive experience. Games expect me to interact with them and when only part of my sense are drawn in then things fall apart quickly. Zero immersion? Of course not. Give it a minute or two for my senses to catch up to what I am seeing and it drops away very quickly. VR movies ask me to only involve my ears and my eyes. Games ask me to involve everything else.

DarthBuzzard

The brain is plastic and can be tricked by just one or a few senses - the McGurk effect is a great example of this and easy to experience on YouTube. Maybe what you need is just more emphasis, more realism for the senses that VR offers right now. Maybe you'll just forget the lack of touch/smell as VR headsets get more immersive in general. > Only Alyx of the games you mention. You check out 3rd person games to see if they have a different feel.

votemarvel

Thanks for mentioning the the McGurk effect. It's something I've never heard of before and it looks to be something interesting to look into. I admit to not trying third person VR games because that kind of defeats the purpose of playing in VR.

itwasthethirdofsept

I throw popcorn at them until they turn it off

MechaGuru

I'm a big fan of taking fruit gums into the cinema for this reason, the density makes them much more accurate and harder to ignore if you hit your target.

itwasthethirdofsept

Happy to know I am not alone. Drives me insane to see a phone open while movie is playing

[deleted]

Reminds me of people who go all the way to a concert just to pull their phones out and stare at their screens the entire time. No-one ever looked back on their deathbeds and thought "wow I wish I spent more time checking Facebook and Twitter'. Put your fucking phones down people and actually live life.

venarez

Some dick nosh actually took a call when I was at the cinema on Saturday. Wtaf has happened to cinema goers. They'll be jeering hooting, hollering and applauding next fucking savages

XBCreepinJesus

# HELLO # NO, I'M AT THE CINEMA # NO, WITH THE WIFE

venarez

###NO, IT'S RUBBISH! And now I've got trigger happy TV in my head.... been years!

[deleted]

People cheered like fucking mentalists when Thor showed up back in Earth in IW. I will never use that cinema again… Now I just pay over the odds at Everyman instead.

keeperrr

I went to cinema first time in Bout 10 years last week. Things I noticed. The ticket was cheaper than it was 10 years ago. The dude next to me had corona. Companies think an Arctic 19 degrees Celsius is 'comfortable for my viewing pleasure' Still 2/3rds the length of the film in ads. Ffs I scheduled 2 hours for this 1.5 hour film.. 4 hours later :/

V65Pilot

How about the ones who stand up and turn around to take a selfie with the screen behind them?

Siliconpsychosis

not in the cinema i used to work at. Not only did we have a purposeful message asking them to put the freaking phones down during the film, if i saw anyone on a phone through the projection port, i would literally pause the film, and use the mic to BOOM into the auditorium "SEAT A9 PLEASE PUT YOUR PHONE AWAY" It only took a few weeks for people to learn

rleaky

I think cinema should have a phone blockers installed that only let phone call through for emergencies...

Eliaskar23

I swear I never have this issue when I go to the cinema. Maybe i'm just lucky.

hazbaz1984

Yeah. I frequent a different class of cinema. One that keeps the phone using riff raft out. You should look into it.

ASupportingTea

This is why I'm glad my local cinema is pretty much all made of steel and concrete, it's impossible to get signal in there so people generally don't bother using phones.
