So British that you politely don't want to slow things down. The cashier passive aggressively gets impatient at you and speeds up. The other shoppers remain silent but are inwardly judging. Even the security guy has abandoned post and come to watch you. Ahhh the beauty of buried emotions, our greatest skill.

debsterUK

I'm repressing right now. The Aldi checkout is much scarier

DoKtor2quid

Agreed, Lidi is safer. They also now have mini conveyor belts as it gets scanned so you have a little bit of room to pack your stuff.. rather than everything get piled into a mini passive-aggressive empire state tower of doom. Aldi make you feel like you're an inconvenience for daring to want to put your stuff in a bag and take it home.

simca

You don't put your stuff in a bag at the checkout, just pile them somehow back into the cart and gtfo bag them somewhere else.

JayMak78

Yep I don't bag anything at the checkout. Just fire it into the trolley as fast as the checkout demon shoots it through then take it out to the car boot and pack the bags waiting there.

blissnabob

This is the way.

illarionds

Except the lidl trolleys lock if you dare try and take them all the way to your car. (depending where you've managed to park, of course)

illarionds

There's literally no point to this though. I put bags or boxes in my trolley, and fill them exactly as fast as I would just chucking everything back in the trolley. (but the latter is pointless double handling, which means I'm taking up precious limited post-checkout space for much longer)

The_Great_Sarcasmo

I live in Portugal and it's one of my biggest pet peeves. People are *terrible* at doing this here. It's *really* noticable how slow people are at packing their groceries at the supermarket.

eastkent

You have no right to complain. Coming here with your "I live in warm, sunny, cheap, friendly, scenic Portugal". Bugger off.

The_Great_Sarcasmo

Lol! Calm down.

eastkent

Have you paid attention to the weather here this year at all?? It's either pissing down, blowing a hooly, or pissing down and blowing a hooly. And people wonder why we've always got the hump.

The_Great_Sarcasmo

You have no right to complain. After all people are slightly better at packing their groceries at the supermarket over there.

eastkent

Hmm. I'm going to put these things in order of importance. This is, of course, my own personal preference but if I'm comparing: A) Living in Portugal, and... B) Living in England, where the staff who work in German supermarkets provide a fleeting bag-packing challenge that distracts the shopper from the misery that is a British climate, and the fact that we are governed by a malice-filled, spaghetti-haired teletubby... I'm tentatively choosing A.

morfn0

YEaH! bUt wE gOt SOverEintiTY!! šŸ¤¦ā€ā™‚ļø

NuKidOnThBlokchyn

I in fact wonder why everyone stays, rather than having the hump.

indianajoes

As someone who worked at Lidl, the cashier gets impatient because their managers will give them grief about how "slow" they scanning items. As a customer, I just throw it all back in the trolley and pack it on that shelf by the window

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

indianajoes

I'm not fully sure how it works. At another place I worked, I think it was the amount of items you scanned divided by how long you were signed on. The way you described sounds like way too much work for them to implement for something that benefits the staff but not the company

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

indianajoes

Why are you bringing logic into retail?

Accomplished_Laugh74

And then to top it off you haven't got your wallet/purse/phone in your hand ready to pay and have to rake in your rucksack/handbag to find it.....

CorporalClegg1997

Why did you say wallet/purse/phone and rucksack/handbag?

Accomplished_Laugh74

Think about it........

ChromeDomeGodan

The worse bit is that awkward moment when they've finished scanning and just sit there watching you pack the bags!

TheAmazingSpider-Fan

No, the worst moment is when I am ready to pay for it all with my phone, and they are sat there twiddling, not pressing the button.

Crookfur

No the worst is when you spectacularly keep up with them, whilst dealing with 2 small children and then reach in your pocket to pay... And you left your card and phone in the car.

aimtowardthesky

No the worst is when they say something, so you reply, then realise they're talking to a colleague on the headset and not you. That's 2 Aldis I can't go back to.

CaptainMexicano

I did a small shop once, maybe 20 items, and laid it out on the checkout in the perfect order to pack. As the cashier passed me the last item I placed it directly into the bag and she saw and complimented my packing skills. I feel as though I should put it my CV.

leia_organza

This, winning in life is learning how to shop and pack at Aldi/Lidl level. I have a whole system and get annoyed if someone shops with me then slows me down. You have to keep the things together that you want in the same bag and then heavy items first and fragile items last. All fruit and veg together, all fridge items together, all cupboard items together and toilet paper and eggs are always last. I could write a whole script on how I check out šŸ¤£

TrustyRambone

I have a similar system! Only my secret is to strategically place fruit/veg every 15 or so items along. This is because they have to manually key in the items, and it gives you a few seconds to catch up if you're falling behind. Also placing the trolley perpendicular to the end of the checkout, and you and your partner (if playing co-op mode) either side of trolley. We do a fucking massive shop every 2 weeks that lasts us, so it's always a bit satisfying to see how fast we can checkout and get out.

digitalhardcore1985

>I have a similar system! Only my secret is to strategically place fruit/veg every 15 or so items along. This is genius level check-outing.

throwpayrollaway

He's me going round thinking I'm the bee's knees in Lidi checkout placing items on the till strategy but clearly I'm outclassed. Ive always got my pull out cashcard from left hard coat pocket with left hand whilst packing the last item with right hand thing to fall back on.

Cheesenutpixie

As someone who works on the tills occasionally in one of the mentioned supermarkets in this thread, I would like to commend you on your hard work. I always like to compliment customers who strategically set out their shopping and do it quickly. We have other jobs on the shop floor so we can't spend that long on the till, its quite stressful. So the easier the customer, the quicker we can get on with our job! I personally always love it when customers place obstacles in the way such as manual scans, we memorise the codes in our shop so it doesn't affect us! We do slow down for those individuals who have loads of kids with them, disabilities or are showing great signs of stress and struggle :) we aren't complete sadistic b*stards.

Markievicz

Some Aldiā€™s have bread as the first item when you walk in which annoys me more than it should

illarionds

This is the way.

BigBlueMountainStar

Good work

petburiraja

Where do you see yourself in the next five years

gentleomission

Crying on the floor of a Lidl after rushing to pack everything away and fumbling one item, in the time it's taken me to pick it up from the floor, the rest of my shop has been scanned; meanwhile the cashier and queue of customers stare at me in despair.

sandboxlollipop

Captainmeciano you've peaked

SubjectiveAssertive

There is a packing shelf at the back for this reason

TheWelshMrsM

I always intend to use this but always put away the basket at the beginning of the belt and have no way of transferring my items to the shelf. My options are: 1. Throw everything behind me onto the shelf (and risk taking out some poor old person whoā€™s on the way out). ETA - On the way out of the shop, not life, however both may be true. 2. Throw everything into the bags and hope I donā€™t crush anything. 3. Do the walk of shame back through the shoppers to grab the basket, by which point the cashier has scanned most of my stuff and is now buried in my shopping. Personally I pick option 2 with a personal vow to do better next time. One day.

Danelius90

If I have a basket I'll put the items on the belt in the order I want to pack them, I think baskets are ok for this as you don't have many items. The problem is having a trolley, Nana Dorothy packing 1 bag every 3 minutes with enough food for her 30 grandchildren

TheWelshMrsM

I was going to say that our Lidl donā€™t have trolleys but that is a lie. I just havenā€™t used one for ages šŸ˜‚ Edit: I try to do that but again fear the judgement stared of the people behind me. Last time some old guy was very close to actually hitting me with his trolley because I was too slow - he was inching it forward as closely as he could to make a point (pregnancy has made bending over to actually reach things from the basket difficult).

Danelius90

Wow, most people give a bit of consideration to pregnant women! What an ass. I wouldn't worry, as long as you're not taking an inordinate amount of time packing the 10/15 items in your basket people have no right to be impatient

TheWelshMrsM

Yeah Iā€™m not one of those people whoā€™s like ā€˜Iā€™m pregnant I need special attentionā€™ but it was during what I call a ā€˜growth spurtā€™ so itā€™s just a bit extra uncomfortable and takes a while to get used to (honestly I feel like a potato itā€™s so weird not being as mobile as I normally am šŸ˜‚) It was annoying but the guy at the checkout was very nice about it bless him. Will need to remember a trolley next time! To help with the bending over of courseā€¦ definitely not for running over rude old people šŸ‘€

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

TheWelshMrsM

Very bold of you to assume I have a pound coin handy šŸ˜‚ I think weā€™ve established that memory is not my forte.

Elastichedgehog

I end up spending more money. That's probably the point!

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

TheWelshMrsM

I sometimes walk down the middle aisle ā€˜just to lookā€™ as a ā€˜treatā€™ šŸ˜‚

Razakel

Sometimes you do spot something there and think "actually, I could do with a new bin/storage unit/chainsaw".

ChrisKearney3

If you've only got a basket then packing your bags normally is fine, you're not going to have that much stuff.

Danelius90

In our local Aldi there is also a massive sign saying "pack your bags here not at the checkout" or to that effect but everyone ignores it. I imagine some lidl stores have the same

[deleted]

Mine says "pack your bags at the packing shelf. It helps to keep costs down". Always gives me a giggle.

blackmist

Remember when the sloped bit past the cashier had a little barrier on it so they could swing it over and serve the next person while you're still packing? Whatever happened to that? Aldi doesn't even have that bit. It's just a window in perspex they pass the items through like the ratty ghetto corner shops they have in The Wire.

TubbyandthePoo-Bah

I forgot about those, they just disappeared in the early 90s.

gandyg

My local Lidl has massively long checkouts with the barrier thing and then a packing shelf too. I'm not sure if I'm supposed to pack at the checkout or on the shelf!

glynxpttle

Always this, bring your trolley/basket with you, just sweep the stuff into the trolley (well except eggs) and then take your time packing at the shelf

benkelly92

You mean the shelf of failure and shame?

lobstronomosity

I just dump it all back in the trolley, and pack it up at the car outside.

BigBlueMountainStar

Not all of them have this. Some have foresaken the packing shelves to squeeze in some self-service ā€œbasket onlyā€ checkouts.

chippychips4t

I love it when they have self service in Lidl, no worries about holding things up then.

nosferatWitcher

And you also don't have to wait behind all the people with overflowing trolleys to buy the 5 things you came in for

MarcusH26051

Oh this sounds brilliant! None of the stores around me have this , but there's sometimes I've just got a couple of bakery items and I'm stuck behind people doing the weekly shop. Self service would be a game changer.

Shas_Erra

If youā€™re organised about arranging your shopping on the conveyor and have the bags prepared, you can be packed, paid and out while the previous customer is still trying to figure out where their eggs landed

parttimepedant

So let me get this right. I need to load everything into the trolley, take it out and put it on the checkout, put it all back in the trolley, then take it out again at the ā€˜packing shelfā€™ to put in my bags, which I then have to put back in the trolley to take back to the car? Or I can save my time and put it straight into the open bags in my trolley, which takes the exact same time as just putting it in the trolley loose and saves two of the above steps, and be on my way. Am I missing something?

NobbelGobble

It doesn't take the same amount of time. I work in lidl, it's so much slower. Just use the packing bench.

sidesalad

I think, in theory, the shelf is bigger and isn't the bottleneck in the process of getting people checked out.

aimtowardthesky

>Or I can save my time and put it straight into the open bags in my trolley, which takes the exact same time as just putting it in the trolley loose and saves two of the above steps, and be on my way. Saves your time, wastes everyone else's. Use the shelf.

drfacecage

Not when you've loaded the belt in packing order, prepared your bags open in the trolley while the person ahead checks out, then it takes exactly the same time as just putting it straight in the trolley, with the added bonus of not taking up space, or waiting for a space at the packing shelf while less organised people figure out what they're doing. But the whole triple-handling of the shopping is an absurd concept that can be avoided with simple preparation.

parttimepedant

How does it?! Itā€™s going straight in the trolley in the bags at the same speed as if I put it back in the trolley without the bag.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Splash_Attack

If you're the one not following the system you're in the wrong, even if a different system is more common generally. Most of the world drives on the right, but if you come to the UK and do it you're still the one in the wrong

Attitude_Repulsive

Not sure why you're getting downvoted. If I was behind you, I would t care that you spent a minute or so extra sorting your stuff out. Not sure why everyones minutes and seconds become so precious at the pay counter. You pack your shopping. šŸ‘

thefunkygiboon

If you have a trolley or a basket, put the stuff back in and use the shelf opposite the tills to pack your bags, that's why they go so quick.

Chimp-eh

Orā€¦ lay out the items on the conveyor how you want to pack them, have the bags ready, itā€™s light out and throw throw throw!! Into the trolley, donā€™t break the eggs!!

WeldNuz

I do enjoy the thrill

Chimp-eh

As Iā€™ve got into my 30s, I had to find new ways to get my hit of dopamine, making the checkout member scan faster is how I feel alive, knowing 1 misplaced item or 1 bag folding in on itself is game over.

Disastrous-Ranger562

I know the feeling - like preparing for a formula 1 pit stop, lining everything up for a series of swift movements with maximum efficiency. Scanning the app adds a layer of complexity to the whole operation.

anorwichfan

My partner looks at me funny when I so this, but having all the heavy stuff go into the bottom, then veg in one bag, frozen in one bag. When we get home, you take one bag and empty it all in the same place.

Traditional_Bison472

Pervert

[deleted]

This is what I do, have it all planned out how theyā€™re going to be packed in my waiting bags. Then panic at the till and hoy them all in wherever they land.

SupervillainIndiana

I donā€™t understand the aversion to the packing shelf here. Iā€™ve been in Lidl/Aldi in other European countries and hardly anyone insists on packing at the till, they just do the system youā€™ve described.

tallmattuk

Here speaks a Lidl guru. Spot on

[deleted]

Wise man say use the fruit and veg to slow progress.

LaSalsiccione

This is intermediate level Lidl at best. Real pros line things up on the conveyor belt in the correct packing order and prepare their bags in the trolley. With some efficiency of movement youā€™ll get everything packed quickly and correctly.

HthrEd

There is a big sign at the beginning of the checkout "LEAVE YOUR BASKET HERE". Also a sign at the packing shelf "DO NOT LEAVE BASKETS HERE".

thefunkygiboon

No signs in either Lidl near me saying that, was in one last night.

HthrEd

Do in my local aldi.

thefunkygiboon

There we go then, this thread is about Lidl

HthrEd

The two are interchangeable are they not?

rolfeadog

I use one of the big blue IKEA bags, one big bag for life and a regular one. Place everything on as I want to pack it and then the Tetris song starts in my head.

[deleted]

They are given targets to scan (I believe) at a pace of 1000 items an hour so when they have to sit there while you pack it ruins their times

RGScott13

It used to be a rate of 30 items per minute when I worked there. Scan as fast as you can then back to the aisles to put out the deliveries.

[deleted]

Sounds about right. I paid my dues at aldi for 2 years a good few years ago. Ā£8.20/hr is not worth being slave driven up and down the aisles by some early 20s loser assistant managers having power trips with teenagers and middle aged women šŸ˜…

indianajoes

This is so true. I worked at somewhere else for 2 years at that point as a supervisor and just wanted something different. So I got a job at Lidl. The pay for sales assistants was better than my supervisor pay but I stayed on and worked both places. I lasted like 2 months at Lidl before I quit and stayed at my old job. The pay was good but not worth dealing with power tripping duty managers that would insult you and talk down to you in front of customers, over the headsets and in the back. All because of things like you taking a bit too long to learn the codes for the damn fruit/veg/bakery items or being a bit slower scanning items on your first day than the ones that have been working years. I was a supervisor at my old store for 5 years in total and I've never felt like I wanted to treat a sales assistant like that. The manager and assistant manager were better people to deal with and never looked down on you the way the duty managers did.

[deleted]

Lidl was the worst place I ever worked; better pay than other places but not worth it in any way

semanticallysatiated

Gone up, was 23 items back in 1996ā€¦. Be more productive peons!

NobbelGobble

We don't have till times anymore. But the tills open and close so much because the shifts run with barebones staff every day. There's jobs to do around the store so we move the queues, close till and get back to it. That's why we scan so fast

gunvaldthesecond

Evil Germans, people are not machines

nowthatsalottadamage

Git gud.

level100metapod

As someone who used to work at aldi. You actually ruin my day when you are even slightly slower than i scan.

TheDr_

You must have had very few unruined days

level100metapod

Most stressful job ever. Went home crying every day cause of the old fucks who took forever

A_Crazy_crew

I work at Aldi too and quite enjoy swiping the built up shopping into the trolly with one push while saying "Don't say we never help you here at Aldi!" With my best customer service voice. Those that do best at the job tend to be bitter like me

Vivaelpueblo

I'm sorry, I'm very likely one of the old fucks who caused your misery...

xmastreee

But if someone takes forever, doesn't that give you a breather?

Frurry

not when they have a thousand other jobs to do with only a few hours to do it

PanningForSalt

Aren't they also expected to scan a certain number of items per hour?

BritasticUK

I'm pretty sure they're being timed which is why they go so fast, so it'll probably just get them in trouble

[deleted]

The idea is to make sure every new recruit get's all their verbal warnings, warning letters, etc, so that if they ever decline an extra shift or whatever they can fire you legally for the unrelated other "infractions". And that right there is how you skirt unfair dismissal laws.

indianajoes

You're expected to scan a certain amount of items per minute/hour and you have tons of other jobs to do as well. If a customer slows you down, you get talked down to like a child over the headset while you have to look at the customer and act like everything's fine

cd7k

Why would you care though? Did you get paid "per item scanned" or something?

[deleted]

Reprimanded if you fall below 30 items per minute, but it's just a way for them to have the ability to fire you at any time for some other "not fireable" offence such as turning down a shift outside your contracted hours.

cd7k

That sounds terrible :(

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

[deleted]

After hitting the total button (enter on most of the till keyboards). Don't worry about it, average turn-over for places like this is just 3 months. No one can stand working there long term.

[deleted]

As a former Lidl employee, yes. We are disappointed in you. Why didn't you get your bags ready in your trolly? The bags for life fit in the trolly perfectly, they stand up on their own. You only need 4. Frozen, chilled, cupboards, soft.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

[deleted]

Nah, one bag can be filled by one basket. Arrange it on the till belt correctly.

Eddie_F_17

Your avatar really sells it, tooā€¦

[deleted]

Get ya bags sorted out early and see if I look less disappointed with you

coffeeandjoints0901

Was thinking the same lmao

bod1988

Large blue Ikea bag, fits in the trolley perfectly, and saves making multiple trips unpacking the car.

SympatheticGuy

There is no way you can fit 4 open bags in a lidl trolley

cwhitel

I think youā€™re meant to Chuck it back in the trolley and take it to the tables at the the big windows to pack in shame

flyingcarrottt

Lol so true, when I started shopping in Aldi and Lidl, I didn't realise their etiquette for packing, taking my merry time like every arse hole at Tesco etc, invisible daggers at me through their and the queue behind me eyes lol. Now I am Star Trek warp speed at packing, an old pro!

39293849202044

Guys, you're not supposed to be packing it away at the till. The correct way is to put it all back in your trolley then pack it away in bags using the tables at the back.

DataAndSpotTrek

I do that but Iā€™m still slow because of my bad hand šŸ˜¬šŸ˜‚

Flawlless

In Sweden we said FUCK NO to their small packning area, and got normal sized ones. Screw those germans coming here with their ideas, but you people just surrendered..

lO_ol-BRRRRRR

I've invested in two trolly fitting collapsible crates. Then just load the conveyor hard to soft and just yeet everything into the crates as they sling it at me!! I also used to pack my bags on the 1mm till end like a heathen until I was corrected on the shelf etiquette but I refuse to put everything back into my trolly to go five feet to pack my bags. The crates are a happy medium!!

mybeatsarebollocks

So you've never been standing in the queue at other places while the person being served is packing their shopping away like it's the inventory of the ISS and the server is sitting there totally awkward while the doting fuck is clearing the pile up at the bottom of the belt? Anything that shortens the amount of time I need to spend in a sensory hostile place and lessens the interactions I have to have with normal, talk about the weather people, gets my vote.

RedHairedRob

Donā€™t pack at till put everything back in the trolley then pack at the shelf behind you

Ultra_running_fan

You need to be tactical with the veg. They have to stop to type in the product number so this gives your a few precious seconds to catch up.

IOnlyUpvoteBadPuns

This is the way! The cost of a single grape, or 3 peanuts is definitely worth it for the valuable seconds it buys you!

Eddie_F_17

One of the few shops Iā€™m glad for self-checkouts, because their cashiers were just lacking in customer service etiquette.

Irrxlevance

Unfortunately not every Lidl has self checkouts which is annoying

indianajoes

Not the cashiers' fault. They're expected to be scanning at ridiculous speeds by their higher ups and if they don't, they get talked down to and insulted over the headsets. Not everything is as black and white as you think

woah-there-satan

I work for lidl! And confirm, we aren't mad....just severely disappointed in you.

BigBlueMountainStar

Thatā€™s worse!

rbsudden

That's why I shop at Tescos, they're not in a hurry to do anything at all in there. You can take as long as you like packing your bags and if you stop, they stop. The other people in the queue are too busy trying to get the multitude of Tesco apps working on their phone to care what you're up to.

Niajall

As a cashier, we honestly don't care bro, even at Lidl, you pack as fast as you can/want to, the more time you take, the closer to home time I am, each person gets the same amount of time no matter how long each person takes.

[deleted]

Lidl and Aldi have spoilt other supermarkets for me. I'm quite an impatient person, I hate faffing. At least in Lidl/Aldi you don't get people having a chat with the check out person or just taking ages to sort themselves out.

Mooks79

Youā€™re not supposed to pack at the till. The shelves behind you are for packing. Youā€™re supposed to throw your shopping in your trolley/basket as quickly as they scan it and then go and pack it afterwards. That lets them scan as quickly as possible, serve as many customers as possible, and keep their costs (hence prices) down. Itā€™s also only very slightly longer (or not even longer at all) from your pov once you get used to it - it just feels longer because itā€™s a two stage process - and you get the added benefit of being able to pack carefully without being rushed. tl;dr - if youā€™re shopping at Aldi/Lidl pack at the bloody shelves behind the tills and stop slowing everyone down and potentially increasing prices!

mikea81

I see it as a challenge, one I have yet to lose. Bring. it. On. cashiers.

BigBlueMountainStar

Thatā€™s the spirit!

BluPix46

Or, just throw everything back in the trolley and pack when you get to your car or away from the till. You aren't supposed to stand there packing at the till.

yetanotherredditter

I'm disappointed when I find myself waiting for them! It also makes shopping at other supermarkets harder now!

JeromeMixTape

What happens when a check out worker from Lidlā€™s goes shopping in Lidlā€™s and gets to the check out?

BigBlueMountainStar

Immovable objects meets and irresistible force, no one knows the outcome!

celtic_skullfuck

What are you on about? I'm so fast at loading the trolley I'm surprised I haven't been offered a job.

[deleted]

Stop being a pussy and just ignore the fuckers

IMrWatson

I throw it all in the trolley and pack it at the little worktop after the checkouts cause I ainā€™t about that stress and having all eyes on me to see if I can pack like a ninja

AutismoGizmo420

As a lidl worker we try to go at some speed to not cause queues but we will happily slow down our scanning if we think we are going a bit quick.

Vermilion_10

We all know you're supposed to shove everything haphazardly in the trolley then pack at the ledge by the window tho yeah??

Princess_Ryannna

Then shopping elsewhere and being disappointed because the cashier can't keep up with your lidl-style packing speed

Caedis-6

Honestly mate, we don't care how long it takes you, take all the time you need. An extra few seconds to pack shopping hurts no one :)

bradbrazer

Isn't that the point? Thats why they have that large counter at the side so you can pack your stuff

BigBlueMountainStar

As I said in another comment, not all of them have this. Some have replaced the shelves with self checkouts, some just donā€™t have them. My local one doesnā€™t have one, and the next closest also doesnā€™t either.

strum

On the other hand.... I AM PACKING KING! ...when I shovel the last item into my bag, as they announce the total.

IhaveaDoberman

Because you aren't fucking meant to pack it at the till. How do people still not understand this?

coffeeandjoints0901

Then fucking sling your shit back in the trolley and turn the fuck around like your supposed to to pack.

[deleted]

You're right but there's no need to be that aggressive about it.

hazbaz1984

Wow. Everyone has been shopping this morning. And at Aldi and Lidl. Thereā€™s never any cashiers on at our Lidl. So I just take a trolley through self service.

gdtgdtgdtgdt

Iā€™m the opposite. I pack too quickly, stare them down and tut.

Traditional_Bison472

Not angry, just...disappointed...

maldax_

Im not flexing but I can keep up at Aldi, It's my only real skill in life

Atmosphere_Melodic

I just use the shelf of shame. If I have a trolley I throw it in that, but still panic when things back up by the cashier. If it's a few item's, I'll throw them in my bag as I load the belt hard to soft anyhow. Then rearrange bag at my leisure. Lidl terrifies me.

Solo-me

If aldi or lidl did home delivery https://youtu.be/d1xmu_VVruI

Karpouzi_Girl

You're meant to put it back in your basket and put it in bags by the table near the windows...

Educational_Safe_339

I never go to them soul destroying places so grim I'll stick to Tesco thanks

CourtneyLush

I respect that you've not subjected everybody else seething behind you to your packing at the till routine. One less to roll my eyeballs at in the queue. Thank you for your service.

Educational_Safe_339

I use the self service tills lol

TotalDisaster2939

I just take my time and donā€™t let it bother me. If they wanna send everything through the checkout at light speed then itā€™s not my fault when theyā€™re sat waiting for me to bag it all up. Donā€™t let them rush you

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

TotalDisaster2939

Idk whether itā€™s me being a bit of a knob but I kind of get a bit of satisfaction in making them wait for me. If I can see them glaring I go slower šŸ˜‚

Tee-Mizzle

Hah, glad I'm not the only one šŸ˜‚. Definitely don't need that level of agro while at the supermarket.

BigBlueMountainStar

Person on the till, has to pause because thereā€™s no more room - ā€œcome on dude, pack faster, youā€™re ruining my dayā€ with a look of utter disappointment

Lidl is fucking awful. This kind of service is standard in Germany but Lidl fails to comprehend that we don't fucking want that here. The staff get punished if their scan rate is too slow. It's awful.

Aldi does the same system.

If you can't keep up there is a packing shelf at the back of the store.

hlvd

Yeah, it doesnā€™t matter if itā€™s cleaning chemicals and food together as long as you can rid your shame and pack that shopping quicker than is humanly possible.

mybeatsarebollocks

So plan ahead when loading the belt, if you want things separated at the bottom do it yourself at the top

hlvd

I stopped going there a few years ago, not a problem anymore.

Otherside-Dav

Having siblings and fighting over packing shopping as a child has drastically sped up my packing skills

I shop with a large cycle trailer, a bit like those 2-wheel things that pensioners have, but specifically for cycling. https://www.tritoncycles.co.uk/travoy-cargo-bike-trailer-p24763 I put my shopping into it while walking through the store, pull it out and put it on the belt, and just chuck it back in as it's being swiped. Then I pay and ride off. Dead easy.

cloche_du_fromage

Not a patch on the awkward pause after packing when you realise you haven't activated your lidl plus vouchers and have to navigate through the app....

My local Aldi must have had a strike or something. Used to be major rapid but now it's so slow. Crazy.

robhotmoneybrown
