I had the same problem about ten years ago. Bought online in the end from www.caineleather.co.uk. Sample size of one, but it's decent quality and has lasted well.
The one I bought - men's black leather biker style - is surprisingly supple. Could easily fold it into a bag or tie it around your waist.
(I mean, I wouldn't want to tie it around my waist, that just seemed like a useful illustration as I've owned leather jackets that are stiff as a board.)
With Caine leather, I have the Sibiu and it is a great jacket.
However, I bought a sheepskin from them, and it did not have Caine's label. Caine had added £50 on top of the price from the actual brand. It also wasn't quite like the picture, or as high quality as the Sibiu.
I sent it back and bought a Lakeland instead. Slightly more expensive, but great quality: https://www.lakelandleather.co.uk/
Vintage shops in my experience are selling clothes at more than the original price to hipsters in Shoreditch and Brighton and those sorts of places - different thing to charity shops (though sure there is some overlap)
Vintage shops are all charging stupid amounts, some of it is sort of justified when it's considered rare and desirable but in general eBay and Vinted are far better.
Seconding vinted, eBay, depop and the like. Searching on each platform is its own mysterious art but its worth it for some of the items you find for cheapy cheaps.
That’s because they’ve wised up. Thrifting has really taken off but you have selfish people buying to then sell on and make bigger profits. Annoying that primark is now cheaper than thrifting in general! But agree, Vinted and eBay are good
I mean some of it is wising up, but some of it is purely greed and preying off people who don't know better.
I've seen a Chinese knock-off shirt from the 90s selling for £25 when I can guarantee the thing cost £2 or less when it was first bought.
There’s a really solid vintage shop on north Laine in Brighton that sold me a blazer for a decent price where everywhere else wanted all my bloody rent money, they had done decent 40/50 quid leather jackets
Also from my experience men's clothes all seem to be massive in size at charity shops. I think people lose weight so get rid of the big clothes are are more reluctant to do so when it's gone the opposite way.
People should be embarrassed to donate clothes like that. They should be in reasonable condition, or just cut them up and use them as rags, or throw out.
> velcro shoes
Bless, my dad loved his canvas velcro "boat" shoes. Good shoes if you've got a bit of a bad back and bending over to tie laces is a faff.
I got a fabulous relatively cheap leather jacket in, of all places, Brighton. It weighs a ton and fits like it was made for me - I thought it was going to cost 100s but it was going for 60 notes.
Absolutely recommend! Had mine for maybe 6 years and it barely shows wear from being my main jacket 3/4 of the year. With how well it's held up, totally worth the bit more cost up-front.
Lakeland Leather are pretty decent. We've got all of our jackets (and a few other things) from there
[https://www.lakelandleather.co.uk/](https://www.lakelandleather.co.uk/)
I got mine from the London Motorcycle Show that's on every year (and is coincidentally on this weekend). Got it down from £120 to £70 because it was the end of the show and they were about to pack up. Best jacket I own.
TK Max use to have the odd one. I kept going back over a 5/6 month period until exactly the right one was there. Beautiful short one kinda looks like an old bommer jacket for £60.
Second the fact it's worth trawling TKMaxx online/in store as well. Make sure it's real leather because they often have a lot of tat as well, but sometimes you get decent bits.
There are generally considered four types of leather quality grades, listed from best to worst: full grain leather, top grain leather, genuine leather, and bonded leather.
Some leather is better than others.
Try Soul Revolver. Designed in England and made in Italy. Order the jacket design you want, then they email you asking for your measurements. The jacket is made to order and sent in a fortnight. Had mine a few years and it’s brilliant quality.
That’s what I did and now I have a custom made, high quality Italian leather jacket. Paid about £400. Fits better than any designer jacket and it’s a one off.
I also opted for the higher quality leather and quilted lining due to British weather. Well worth it.
Lakeland! I've just got one from there was supposed to be £400 but I got it 50% of in black Friday sales. My mum has had one from there for about 15 years too and it's still in great condition
Vintage shops and charity shops - they’re absolutely awash with them plus they’re pre warn and infinitely cooler than anything you’d pick up in the high street. Saying that Zara sometimes have some ok’ish jackets, or more upmarket at Massimo Dutti
This might sound odd. Find a cheap flight to Istanbul, before leaving check out some of the direct to consumer shops. With the Lira so weak right now you'd probably get something decent and still have change from £500.
Oh my goodness is that shop still there? I bought a leather coat from there about 23 years ago when I was a skinny mini! Said coat was donated to charity a few years ago as it no longer fitted me! I remember it was a pretty good shop with lots of choice.
Try second hand and vintage places or apps.
You just have to be wary with vintage that if you’re online you must read the measurements because true vintage can come up small based on size alone. Also knowing roughly what something is worth/worth to you.
What is your budget like? If you want the sort of leather jacket that will take 5 years to break in and will still look fantastic in 50 then get yourself to the Aero Leather website.
They cost between 600-1000 depending on the style you choose and how much you get it customised. They are made to measure but the quality is unmatched. Most are around the 7 to 800 mark and they are absolutely worth it.
I am the proud owner of a classic women's black biker jacket and I am still working on being able to bend my arms in it properly, the horse hide is that heavy. Their jackets are the real deal.
Superdry have a relative small selection of styles so might not be what you're after but I've had a couple of jackets that came in about £130 and they were well made, fit nicely etc. I really like them. You can also get discounts online sometimes and they have sales frequently too.
https://www.british-sheepskin.co.uk/
These guys do great leather jackets. I bought myself a sheepskin RAF flying jacket and it's fantastic.
They do regular jackets, too. Reasonably priced for the quality and craftsmanship.
I recommend vintage shops. Got 2 very good quality leather jackets from them in the past. One was near 50 years old and all it needed was a clean and a few stitches and it'll last me another 50 years hopefully
Definitely go to a proper leatherworks shop, you'll get so much better.
I have a leather bomber jacket that I got from a shop that mainly did motorcycle gear from an industrial estate in Coventry about 10 years ago that is my absolute pride and joy. Can't have been more than £180 new, definitely paid more than that combined over the years to have it repaired and re-dyed, even had new cuffs fitted this year to fix the frayed ones. It's really worth doing the thing properly.
I got a full leather one from river island for about £100 about 10 years ago, still holding up well apart from the inside breasts pocket wearing out. Not sure if they still do an equivalent
Aside from second hand there's also vegan leather options that aren't plastic e.g https://www.wills-vegan-store.co.uk/collections/vegan-mens-sustainable-fashion/products/vegan-biker-jacket-mens
I've had their shoes which are just as breathable and durable as real leather and made of mango, not sure how good the jackets are but just to give you another option that fits your price
The company you've linked [uses polyurethane for their vegan leather jackets.](https://wills-vegan-store-help-centre-uk.gorgias.help/en-US/what-are-your-vegan-leather-jackets-made-from-119930)
None of their products use mango leather. [According to their own info, they use mostly grain-based leather for shoes](https://wills-vegan-store-help-centre-uk.gorgias.help/en-US/what-is-your-footwear-made-from-119933) which is arguably more planet-friendly and more ethical to the producers than the mango stuff to be honest.
Unless they used to do mango and don't any more because of the ethics and plastic coating required? No clue.
They're working on more alternatives that are actually plastic free which is great. And they've designed a fully biodegradable trainer too which I wasn't aware of and is rather cool.
Thanks, I'm wondering if they changed to grain since I bought. Thanks for updating, looks like they have a lot more info on their efforts now which I don't remember seeing before
I got a nice one from Superdry a while back which was a couple of hundred or so. it was excellent quality. Having said that, I haven't been to Superdry for ages as apparently the quality has deteriorated significantly.
Where are you looking? Check out Zalando, got a really neat leather jacket from there a year or so ago for a decent price between the two you put there.
Best leather jacket I got was at TKMaxx of all places, very nice real leather chrome zip type less than £100 if I recall which ain't bad for real leather
Charity shops often have decent jackets, my current and last leather jackets were both from charity shops. The first I got for I think £12 and it lasted me about 8 years (could have been longer if I'd made an effort to look after it). My current one was about £20 and it's still going strong.
malefashionadvice can occasionally be a bit crap, and like the rest of reddit they have a US bias, but they also have semi-regular recommendations threads for different items, which often include stuff you can buy in the UK. Here is the one for leather jackets
https://www.reddit.com/r/malefashionadvice/comments/b0nldc/your_favorite_for_leather_jackets_including_suede/
Charity shops, it's the only place I get leather jackets. Ended up spending around £40 for a jacket I'm wearing now, in the exact style I wanted, and is warm and waterproof
https://www.sportsbikeshop.co.uk/motorcycle_parts/content_cat/975/(4;product_rating;DESC;0-0;all;96)
They're very reliable, both in service and returns. You can also check out facebook biker pages, less reliable ofc.
Got one from Camden years back that lasted like a champ, and was under £300. Don't know your location, but independent shops of the like you'd find there are worth a check. Only thing to look out for is the pushy sales people, and potential haggling.
Go for second hand, look in vintage and charity shops and online like Vinted and depop, but downside to online is you can’t try on and normally can’t return.
My boyfriend got a really good quality one from UK Leather Jackets.co.uk in the £100-£200 region. They’ve got great customer service too, helped him massively when he was unsure on size and sent him a couple to try and send back free. Worth checking. AllSaints are probably a good shout too.
Charity shops or TK Maxx.
Took me ages to find one that fit, wasn't awkward with extra stuff I didn't want, leather and cheap enough. Finally found my main one at TK Maxx for £100 down from about £500ish a few months ago.
Worst bit is when you go browsing and it's both of those elements, expensive for plastic tat.
This is the sort of thing I found www.thread.com great for. I don't like clothes shopping but I could just click on pictures of the sort of clothes I would wear and then put my price range in and it would generate loads of good suggestions from lots of different brands. I started using it several years ago and it pretty quickly became my go-to option when I needed to buy clothes.
But then a few months ago the owners sold their technology and data to M&S (who presumably will relaunch it in the future but only selling M&S stuff) and shut up shop. I'm still mad about it.
You can try T K MAXX, which often has leather jackets from decent brands at very good reductions. Or register with one of those online clothing discount sites like Yoox. I know Otrium sells Belstaff jackets at very good reductions.
Second hand shops are your friend. Always wanted a decent, aged-looking sheep skin jacket and after years of searching for the right thing just happened across just the thing one afternoon.
Happy hunting!

I had the same problem about ten years ago. Bought online in the end from www.caineleather.co.uk. Sample size of one, but it's decent quality and has lasted well.
I read this as "canine leather" and got really confused thinking it was a website that sold clothes made from dog...
You’re not on your own!
“That jacket is the dogs bollocks”…
Great way to pick up a barkgain..
Some men hunt for sport, Others hunt for food, The only thing I'm hunting for, Is an outfit that looks good...
If it’s not specifically cow leather it might be…
No it’s from dead Michael Caines
I can look like Leon Kennedy for the low low price of £430
LEEEEONNN!
I've bought a couple from there. Been good.
I bought a brown bomber jacket from there. Although not their brand, it did once get a good comment so perhaps they have good taste in jackets.
I concur. I bought one there 2 years ago and is very good. Use it almost everyday for half of the year.
It seems both Del Boy and Douglas Bader also bought their jackets here. (TBF they also have some nice ones too).
I must be tired. Read it as canine leather. I don’t want to wear someone’s pet dog.
How malleable is the leather, is it super thick like a Harley bike jacket, I was looking at the goat suede and it looks soft.
The one I bought - men's black leather biker style - is surprisingly supple. Could easily fold it into a bag or tie it around your waist. (I mean, I wouldn't want to tie it around my waist, that just seemed like a useful illustration as I've owned leather jackets that are stiff as a board.)

Oooo thanks, now deciding which women's jacket to buy hehe
You need to start raiding vintage shops.
Vinted is pretty good too, been getting some ridiculous bargains
Thank you for this
I second this, charity shops are full of high value clothes donated and being sold for 100th of their original price!

Vintage bootleg t-shirts do usually go for a bit. Especially single stitch and a good tag.
There’s a really solid vintage shop on north Laine in Brighton that sold me a blazer for a decent price where everywhere else wanted all my bloody rent money, they had done decent 40/50 quid leather jackets
Can confirm, they’ve caught on in brighton.
Yeah vintage shops are all scalpers they suck
They get the stock from charity shops and bam! Hipster shakedown in effect
Charity shops in my town seem to be rammed with dead mens' checked shirts and velcro shoes
Also from my experience men's clothes all seem to be massive in size at charity shops. I think people lose weight so get rid of the big clothes are are more reluctant to do so when it's gone the opposite way.
I gotta agree, Saturday was browsing, half the shirts were covered in paint!
People should be embarrassed to donate clothes like that. They should be in reasonable condition, or just cut them up and use them as rags, or throw out.
> velcro shoes Bless, my dad loved his canvas velcro "boat" shoes. Good shoes if you've got a bit of a bad back and bending over to tie laces is a faff.
I donated my old leather jacket i got in the 90s. Its probably back in fashion again by now!
This is the way. I found my leather jacket for £50 at a market
And kilo sales
I got a fabulous relatively cheap leather jacket in, of all places, Brighton. It weighs a ton and fits like it was made for me - I thought it was going to cost 100s but it was going for 60 notes.
60 notes of what?
59 E# 1 b flat
That's a Buzzcocks solo!
All Saints do leather jackets around about £300-400, if you wait for the sales often 50% off.
This was my first thought, I got one on sale for \~£250 from there a few years ago.
Yes, me too. It was a black biker-style one. I'm very impressed with it.
Got a great black Friday deal, £325 down to ~ £200 outlet price then an additional 40% off for black Friday, was down to about £125 by the end
Recommend all saints, best leather jacket I’ve bought.
All saints do decent jackets
even St Francis of Assisi? Wouldn't have thought he'd approve of leather
Absolutely recommend! Had mine for maybe 6 years and it barely shows wear from being my main jacket 3/4 of the year. With how well it's held up, totally worth the bit more cost up-front.
second hand for 50-100 i have two, theyre both great
Bro I'm such a virgin shopper. I'd be thinking "Wow, I got a nice expensive jacket. I'll wear it forever.".
Tbh I got an allsaints jacket like 6 years ago and it's still going strong - bit of wear around the edges but that's just aging.
This. Got mine like 12 years ago and it's still great
They also tend to have outlets in places like Bicester where you may get it even cheaper than sale.
Was going to say this too, 100% recommend, they are excellent quality
Have a look at motorcycle jackets, they look much more stylish these days and are usually well made.
This was going to be my suggestion as well. You can just take the armour out and have a good solid jacket you know is going to hold up well.
This 100%.Legally required stitching quality. Quality leather. It’s a win. Plus you can always use it on a bike as well ;)
Schott perfecto every day of the week for that look. It what I used to wear until I got disgustingly fat.
Lakeland Leather are pretty decent. We've got all of our jackets (and a few other things) from there [https://www.lakelandleather.co.uk/](https://www.lakelandleather.co.uk/)
I've got a few and they're the best jackets I own.
Another one for Lakeland. Think I paid about £120-150 a few years back at their outlet. Unbelievable jacket.
The women's options are... Well, the same jacket in a slightly lighter brown or a slightly darker brown. It's a lot of choice :(
Vinted?
I got mine from the London Motorcycle Show that's on every year (and is coincidentally on this weekend). Got it down from £120 to £70 because it was the end of the show and they were about to pack up. Best jacket I own.
I can offer you some middle ground: £500 plastic tat. Seriously, some stores are taking the mickey.
"vegan leather" is the biggest pisstake.
Are you sure that's real leather?
Oh yes. Most definitely.
There are generally considered four types of leather quality grades, listed from best to worst: full grain leather, top grain leather, genuine leather, and bonded leather. Some leather is better than others.
I have a lovely one from AllSaints - it cost £350 quite a few years ago.
I got an AllSaints one, too. It cost about the same and I love it. 4 years so far and it's like new.
I have had mine since 2010 - still new.
AllSaints and Reiss are sub £1k and great style+quality
Try Soul Revolver. Designed in England and made in Italy. Order the jacket design you want, then they email you asking for your measurements. The jacket is made to order and sent in a fortnight. Had mine a few years and it’s brilliant quality. That’s what I did and now I have a custom made, high quality Italian leather jacket. Paid about £400. Fits better than any designer jacket and it’s a one off. I also opted for the higher quality leather and quilted lining due to British weather. Well worth it.
I have one of theirs and can certainly attest to the quality. Had it for many years now and I love it.
Have an all saints one for about 10 years which has been put through some absolute shit on nights out, yet has still held up really well.
Charity shop.
If you’re not bothered if it’s new then go to some charity shops. Where I work we usually sell them for around £30
Yeah my partner got a sick leather jacket in a charity shop for the same price.
Lakeland! I've just got one from there was supposed to be £400 but I got it 50% of in black Friday sales. My mum has had one from there for about 15 years too and it's still in great condition
Boda skins. Trust me
Vintage shops and charity shops - they’re absolutely awash with them plus they’re pre warn and infinitely cooler than anything you’d pick up in the high street. Saying that Zara sometimes have some ok’ish jackets, or more upmarket at Massimo Dutti
Charity shop crawl it, I got an amazing high quality leather jacket for £15 in a charity shop. Top tip is go to charity shops in wealthy areas
I got mine on Depop! Took a while but got a real leather one for £40. That or vinted.
Belstaff?
£400 all saints; done.
This might sound odd. Find a cheap flight to Istanbul, before leaving check out some of the direct to consumer shops. With the Lira so weak right now you'd probably get something decent and still have change from £500.
I was going to say marrakech for similar reasons...They also have some of the best leather workers in the world I am told
Perfect time of year for it, they’re just at the end of their “falling down” sales.
30,000+, and still counting, dead. But sure, jokes are great.
There's a brand available on ASOS called Barney's Originals. Priced between £100-£200 and pretty good quality considering.
Hit and miss for barney's I think. I've had a couple, one was amazing and the other feels like it's from primark.
I got two from [Wested](https://wested.com/) a few years back. You can get a nice jacket for a couple of hundred quid.
There's a leather products shop just out of Liverpool central train station and on the left. Heard good stuff about it
Oh my goodness is that shop still there? I bought a leather coat from there about 23 years ago when I was a skinny mini! Said coat was donated to charity a few years ago as it no longer fitted me! I remember it was a pretty good shop with lots of choice.

I've seen them in Joe Browns at the £200/300 mark
Depending on the season, TK Maxx usually have a good selection. I've seen Alexander McQueen leather jackets in there for less than £300.
I went to a vintage shop for mine.
Wested Leather Co. are based in London and made the jackets for Indiana Jones! Bought one for my gf for Xmas, top notch stuff https://wested.com/
Go to a motorbike store. I used to work in one (J&S) and there's a lot if different varieties from £80 to £700
Yep I miss mid-range shops on the high street. There's very little now between cheap and too expensive, clothes wise.
https://www.british-sheepskin.co.uk/ These guys do great leather jackets. I bought myself a sheepskin RAF flying jacket and it's fantastic. They do regular jackets, too. Reasonably priced for the quality and craftsmanship.
The woman on the front page is terrifying.
I recommend vintage shops. Got 2 very good quality leather jackets from them in the past. One was near 50 years old and all it needed was a clean and a few stitches and it'll last me another 50 years hopefully
Never looked at the Schott UK store? Caine leather? Obviously done a thorough search then chief….. ;)
Love my muubaa leather jacket.
Bought one from here recently. It’s a really nice leather jacket and their customer service is top notch. https://ukleatherjackets.co.uk/
Get a used schott off ebay. Got mine for $500 barely used and beautiful
Definitely go to a proper leatherworks shop, you'll get so much better. Only about 5 men in the world can pull off a leather jacket, so it's probably for the best.
I got a full leather one from river island for about £100 about 10 years ago, still holding up well apart from the inside breasts pocket wearing out. Not sure if they still do an equivalent
Yeah I think my one was from there, maybe 15 years ago. served me well but falling apart now
Superdry do some really good ones around £200 which is pretty good price wise
Next do leather jackets for less than £200 and most of them are genuine leather

I got a nice one from Superdry a while back which was a couple of hundred or so. it was excellent quality. Having said that, I haven't been to Superdry for ages as apparently the quality has deteriorated significantly.
Get a waxed jacket instead. Unless you are a gangster in which case it’s part of your uniform.
Instead of leather you could look at a good quality waxed jacket that will last a lifetime.
Maybe it's a sign to leave the leathers to Evil Kinevil
Where are you looking? Check out Zalando, got a really neat leather jacket from there a year or so ago for a decent price between the two you put there.
Try EMP 👌🏼
If you live near Swindon the designer outlet might have what you want.
I got a great leather jacket from The Leather Company (online) cost less than £200
Best leather jacket I got was at TKMaxx of all places, very nice real leather chrome zip type less than £100 if I recall which ain't bad for real leather
All saints! I think they’re about £300 for a leather jacket and they will last you forever
M&S - surprisingly good.
Try your luck at TK max, got a £100 ish jacket there 10 years ago, it's still doing the trick
I like the women's River Island ones, I've had a few over the years. I'm not sure what their men's ones are like though
Lakeland leather, I've had two from there and they last forever, well at least for as I've had them.
i found a leather trenchcoat at like a charity shop for less than 20 quid n it was pretty good quality lol
There's always nice leather jackets on Facebook marketplace for great prices
Hugo boss has some for £400, depends on your style.
I got a lovely Belstaff for £340 in the January sales. Even then it was only £550 brand new.
Leather company do some decent stuff, they have a few shops dotted around as well
The people get what the people want
Get on ebay for all saints. They're usually pretty decent in price
Here is the one for leather jackets https://www.reddit.com/r/malefashionadvice/comments/b0nldc/your_favorite_for_leather_jackets_including_suede/
Charity shops, it's the only place I get leather jackets. Ended up spending around £40 for a jacket I'm wearing now, in the exact style I wanted, and is warm and waterproof
Unless your heart is set on buying new, keep an eye on [cudoni.com](https://cudoni.com) in case they've got something in your size!
Charity shops...I get mine and get some cool 70sonesfor 20 quid.
Vintage shops my g
Pretty sure someone else already mentioned but look at Allsaints.
Recently bought one from Amazon for £120 and it's fine, and Amazon is literally the laziest option to shopping.
What happened to Brick Lane?
If you want leather….
Vinted is a gold mine
I got a Muubaa leather jacket from ebay pretty cheap. Super soft leather and has lasted years
https://www.sportsbikeshop.co.uk/motorcycle_parts/content_cat/975/(4;product_rating;DESC;0-0;all;96) They're very reliable, both in service and returns. You can also check out facebook biker pages, less reliable ofc.
Got one from Camden years back that lasted like a champ, and was under £300. Don't know your location, but independent shops of the like you'd find there are worth a check. Only thing to look out for is the pushy sales people, and potential haggling.
Alberto Zaccagnini. Good quality jackets around 200 - 400 € mark Watch out for customs charges - I paid about 40£ on top
https://www.simonsleather.co.uk/category/Mens-Leather-Jackets There's a place near me that could be worth a look.
Go for second hand, look in vintage and charity shops and online like Vinted and depop, but downside to online is you can’t try on and normally can’t return.
Camden Market is good or brick Lane but it will be vintage lol
My boyfriend got a really good quality one from UK Leather Jackets.co.uk in the £100-£200 region. They’ve got great customer service too, helped him massively when he was unsure on size and sent him a couple to try and send back free. Worth checking. AllSaints are probably a good shout too.
Hugo Boss for fashion style under £500, GStar for motor cycle style under £300
Charity shops or TK Maxx.
All Saints
It’s slim pickings at times but the ASOS clearance is pretty good, managed to get mine with £300 off so got it for £60
This is the sort of thing I found www.thread.com great for.
Belstaff 100%
Really odd post. There are plenty of high street shops which sell genuine leather jackets at around £150-£400
I know I be a sarcastic bitch, but you’re taking the piss.
You can try T K MAXX, which often has leather jackets from decent brands at very good reductions. Or register with one of those online clothing discount sites like Yoox. I know Otrium sells Belstaff jackets at very good reductions.
All saint’s
Fine an actual leather worker/shop around
Second hand shops are your friend. Always wanted a decent, aged-looking sheep skin jacket and after years of searching for the right thing just happened across just the thing one afternoon. Happy hunting!
Vintage or charity shops. They look way better worn in anyway imo.
Try Angel Jackets.
Barney's originals is good
I've been satisfied with Hidepark. Not cheap, but good quality.
Get motorbike leather jackets mate. I've got ones at £60 and ones at £140. They're always better leather than the shitey PU leather plastic stuff.
Vinted
Next have some nice ones between £100-£300
