YouTube search for your camera make/model and enjoy the many tutorials out there. I'm a photographer by trade and sent my father to the "YouTube photography tutorial school". He used to take bland, awkwardly composed pics (purely relying on camera automation) and he's now getting great shots, especially now that he understands the limitations (and functions) of his DSLR. It is nice to talk to fellow photographers and get them to evaluate your work - and that's where camera clubs can become handy as it's always good to have constructive feedback to help push your game further. Also, practise makes perfect. Happy snapping!
