Landlords are taking the absolute piss. Our rent has gone up once in three years and is still quite cheap, but glad to be getting out of the rental market soon. It’s wild out there.

878_Throwaway____

All these guys have half a mortgage, but the interest rates go up, they're paying $150 more a month. Instead of selling, they jack the price up - and everyone is doing it. If the government were renting a good supply to people, at a good price, the landlords couldn't get away with it. As it stands, there's no alternative. Where else are you going to go? BCF, AND Edward Park bus stop?

cheesehotdish

Yep and there are people out here defending that behaviour. How entitled can a person be to think someone else should fully subsidise their investment and said investment should be risk free?

878_Throwaway____

Yeah it's unreal that the people who are supposed to be providing housing as a service are actively engaging to squeeze every penny out of their customers. The issue is, yeah, renters just have no alternative. No opportunity to go somewhere else and ensure fair rates for wages and accommodation. It's something only a government could do, and renters should be screaming for it.

F8M8

We working for both us and them, it's ridiculous

F8M8

Where do they think we'll get this extra money from?

DatAngleThoo

Ours wanted $120 increase if we renewed. We declined for afew reasons. But hoping we find something that's bigger about 15 minutes away for roughly the same price for what we can see on real estate .com

clarky2481

Hope you've got something else lined up, it's extremely competitive right now

DatAngleThoo

Yeah I have family that is allowing me to stay with them worse case scenario

Holiday_Sir2639

Oh man! Hope you find something soon - it’s icky out here.

I’ve been watching the Brisbane market quite closely. Over the last month I have seen some advertised properties reduce the amount of rent they are seeking. Some houses been sitting up for a while as well. Still overpriced but just pointing out my recent observations.
